Colonel Chukwuma Nzeogwu, Colonel Nzefili, Colonel Okwechime,Colonel Ochei, Major Isichei,Colonel Achuzia,Colonel Chude Sokei and many others are proud Delta-Igbo sons who fought for Biafra. RESPONSE

1. It is strange for one Mr Ben Etaghene, an Okpe-Urhobo man from Sapele telling Nigerians whether Anioma is a part of Biafra or not. Since he is not an Anioma indigene, he has no locus standi to get involved in an issue which does not concern him. Many misunderstand Biafra to mean Igbo. But if we assume that its only Igbo (which its not), the fact is that we cannot divorce the Anioma out of it. There have been many examples across the world and indeed Africa where ethnic and linguistic ties overrides any boundary domestic or international in questions like this. Let me give some examples. In Rwanda, the Tutsi and Hutu conflict spilled over to parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo where both groups also occupy. In the Balkans , the Bosnian question got involved the sovereign nations of Serbia and Croatia since there are Bosnian Serbs snd Croats. Even in the Nigerian Civil war, the Anioma area was involved and some of the atrocities of the war committed in the area.

2. In the second coup led by Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu (the first coup was actually led by Awo in 1962). It was dubbed “Igbo-coup” and the result was the pogroms which led to the deaths of over 30,000 people. Many of whom were Anioma people from the Midwest. There was no distinction, an Igbo was an Igbo and Nzeogwu who led the “Igbo” coup in the North was an Anioma from Okpanam town. In the Civil war proper, thousands of Anioma civilians were killed because they are Igbos including Sapele, where Ben Etaghene wrote from. This was clearly written in the New York times as follows :- “Federal troops… killed, or stood by while mobs killed, more than 5000 Ibos in Warri, Sapele, Agbor…” (New York Times, 10th January, 1968). The said Ibos killed in those places were Anioma people since their eastern Igbo kith and kin had fled to their region. This excludes
the Asaba genocide which over 2,000 civilian males were executed. Over 20,000 Aniomas were killed during the “liberation of the Midwest” by federal troops often in connivance of local non-Igbo speaking natives which was captured in this report as follows :-“In some areas outside the East… Ibos were killed by local people with at least the acquiescence of the federal forces… 1000 Ibo civilians perished in Benin in this way” (New York Review, 21 December 1967). The likes of prominent Aniomas such as Peter Okocha, an industrialist and politician and Peter Otunuya Odili the former Gov of Rivers State had their parents killed during the war for the simple reason of being Igbos. It is therefore strange after these sad events for anyone to pretend that Anioma people has no connection with that unfortunate war or its legacy. [/b]

When somebody that is begging Igbo to either re consider their stands on Biafra or somebody begging igbo to stay. This is like when a woman makes up her mind to leave a marriage that has been either abusive or unstable, the husband and the people of his husband family will cajole, tell her, intimidate the woman that if she goes out of marriage, she will not survive, she will not last, she will be exposed to the elements of nature. That is exactly what Nigeria is doing.

To me, they are making Igbo feel special by writing all these articles, begging them to stay, begging them to reconsider. I doubt that is the mark of manhood. Left for me, I think that they should let these people either be so that they can go “suffer” just like it happened to Israel in 1940s maybe they will learn from their suffering or let them eat the humble pie by coming for negotiations. But writing these articles, epistles, reports and research to me is shameful. They should stop this beggarly attitude, it is making Igbo pompous and supremacist. We should know that nobody is inevitable and indispensible so..if they want out ...for heaven sake let em be.

I am an Igbo, I am not pro Biafra nor anti Biafra , it can be sickening when people beg people to stay with them. This is a nation of about 45 million people and they all can not be stupid where as this write is seen smart. Well he is IBO not IGBO Igbo land is bigger than most countries of Europe like Luxembourg, Belgium, Romania and other Caspian sea countries. ....These countries are better off than Nigeria. If it is better to be developed in a small country than being poor in a big country which one is better, look at Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan, Maccau,Maldive etc..these are liitle countries but here in Africa you will see big for nothing countries still very very very poor...Just look at Chad, Mali, Niger, Nigeria etc big countries with big land mass yet so poor.

Nigeria will be well if the regions are well. Do we do Confederation with 80% independent regions...the states will collapse to regions and with very weak central(My proposition) let regions develope at their pace.

Biafra isn’t all about losing market share as some pundits will say , Biafra is all about sanity and progress. The igbo are trying to redraw the colonial maps which has never done African good.

We must talk about this and chart a way forward, we must understnad that the first thing is Africa and black race, be it Ghana,Be Kenya or Nigeria we must have a poster country for developement. Nigeria seems to have failed that project...if Biafra will be a country that Negroid race will be proud of..so be it. IT MUST NOT BE VIOLENT

The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona has replied the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, over his recent ranking of Yoruba Obas. Recall Alake, in the ranking of the five top Obas, placed the Ooni of Ife as the first, followed by the Alaafin of Oyo, the Oba of Benin, with the Alake coming fourth and the Awujale fifth. Breaking his silence on the ranking, the Awujale spoke in Lagos at the Inaugural Lecture of the Professorial Chair in Governance he endowed at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. Dismissing the ranking as self-serving, false and misrepresentation of facts, Awujale said the Alake was not higher than him in order of ranking, adding that at best, he was a junior traditional ruler in Yorubaland.


In Awujale's words, “My advice to Alake, being a young and inexperienced traditional ruler, is that he should contact Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for proper education so as to save himself and his people from further embarrassment. Not long ago, after the installation of Oba Alaiyeluwa Adeyeye Ogunwusi as the Ooni of Ife, he undertook steps to foster unity and cooperation among leading Yoruba Obas and for which I personally commend him.


“First, he joined the Alaafin at his 77th birthday celebration at Oyo. Thereafter, he visited me at Ijebu-Ode on Friday, January 29, 2016, followed by another visit to Abeokuta on Sunday, February 7, 2016, where he met Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo in his palace at Ake, Abeokuta, with the exception of the Agura of Gbagura, Abeokuta, who was not around then. The Alake, while receiving the Ooni at his palace, said the Yoruba Obas (the Big Five so to say) had been categorised with the Ooni in the first position, followed by Alaafin, the Oba of Benin, with Alake coming fourth and the Awujale as the fifth in that order.


“He also went further to quote wrongly from a 1903 Gazette to support all the fallacies in his statement. When I learned of the statement, I made several calls to Alake until I eventually succeeded in finding out from him if those statements were actually made by him, which of course he vehemently denied. In a recent discussion between the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, and I, we also touched on the same issue and the Oba of Lagos told me that he too had asked Alake the same question, which he had again denied vehemently. Regrettably, however, when the said statement a few days later was continuously credited to Alake on the pages of newspapers, I expected him to deny it or issue a rebuttal, but he did not do so. Therefore, I consider it necessary to debunk the aforementioned falsehood and misrepresentation of facts from Ake Palace so as to put the records straight.


“First, I would like to make it abundantly clear that the 1903 Gazette referred to by Alake was a Newspaper publication that he, in his self-serving role, is now presenting as an official Government Gazette. The first question to Alake is: Who categorised the Yoruba Obas and when? I challenge him to produce the document of the said categorisation. It is a known fact that Alake was a junior traditional ruler under the Alaafin at Orile Egba before he fled to Ibadan for refuge as a result of the war then ravaging Yoruba land.


“Following the defeat of Owu by the Ijebu Army in 1826, the Owus became refugees all over Yorubaland. Some of the Ijebu troops that fought the war proceeded to Ibadan where they met Alake and sacked him, consequently forcing him to seek refuge at Ake in Abeokuta in 1830
where, of course, he met Osile, Olowu and Agura already settled at Oke-Ona, Owu and Gbagura sections of Abeokuta township respectively.


“Even then, the Olubara, of Oyo origin had always argued that all the aforementioned four rulers met him in Abeokuta and, therefore, claimed to be their landlord. Alake’s real title “To ever refer to Alake as Alake of Abeokuta, let alone of Egbaland is a misnomer as his control since
arrival at Ake in 1830 and till today is restricted to Ake section of Abeokuta. The official Government Gazette testifies to this fact.


“In short, the Alake from history and all available records is a very junior traditional ruler in Yorubaland. His peers in Ijebuland are the Dagbuwere of Idowa, Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, Akija of Ikija-Ijebu, Olowu of Owu-Ijebu, Oloko of Ijebu-Mushin, Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo and Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye. I wish to recall that there had been an occasion in the past for three of us, the Awujale, the late Alake, Oba Lipede and the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife, to sit over the issue with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at Aso Rock, Abuja.


“It is important for Alake’s education to appreciate that Ijebu has been in existence for almost 1,000years and that we are the only people that still remain in our original homestead while other Yoruba towns and villages have relocated twice or more. If only he cares to obtain a copy of the book: “The Ijebu of Yorubaland (1850-1950”) by the late Prof. E.A Ayandele, that erudite Professor of History, and endeavour to read it, there he will know who the Ijebus are and appreciate that from time immemorial and since our settlement on Ijebu soil, Ijebu was, indeed, a nation until 1892 when we were defeated in the Magbon War by the British colonial forces.


“As to be expected, the British colonial masters left no stone unturned to humiliate us for daring to engage them in a war. When Sir Gilbert Carter read intelligence reports on Ijebuland at the Home Office in London, he felt convinced that the Ijebus were a special breed. Therefore, when he later found himself as Governor of Lagos colony, he prepared a treaty for the Awujale to sign so as to allow the missionaries to educate and evangelize the people as well as surrender their monopoly of trade between the coast and hinterland and for which he offered an annual payment of 800 pounds that was rejected.


“Notwithstanding the conquest, our early contact with the expatriates was quite significant and rewarding. It was during this period that our God-given commercial acumen was bought to play, resulting in enormous prosperity for the Ijebus to the envy of our neighbours. In conclusion, I hereby strongly admonish Alake to refrain from making such unsavoury, unguarded and unfounded statements which if not checked, may seriously jeopardize the unity of Yoruba Obas and their people.”

According To Hope for Nigeria, Former Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has written to Bancorp Bank in Minnesota in the United States that the alleged $757 million Dollars domiciled in an account in his name; was authorized by him in error; from a Rivers State Government Account with Access Bank Plc.

The Nigerian most corrupt governor according to CNN letter reveals that a similar letter was also written to a bank in Switzerland; stating that a similar authorization was made in error.

The letter stated that the said transfers to both banks were for the purchase of security Helicopters, payments to a foreign company to combat malaria in Rivers state by using helicopters to spray mosquito insecticides, and for the purchase of an official residence for Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, in America.

The letter further explains that, the payments for the security helicopters, and mosquito insecticides to fight malaria were made through other sources, after the funds had already been transferred abroad. He reminded the bank that the Rivers state law on his severance package, provides for an official residence for a former governor; of which he chose to have his residence in America.

Amaechi said that, this law was later amended to have his official residence built in Nigeria, after the funds had already been transferred to Bancorp/Minnesota Account. Mr. Amaechi said these changes were the reasons he communicated the consultants for purchase of security helicopters, his official residence in the U.S and the Insecticide companies not to access the funds; since they have been paid through other sources.

On receipt of the governor’s letter by the Bancorp Bank, the bank has written to the Federal Government of Nigeria to repatriate the said funds to Rivers State treasury. Investigations further revealed that President Buhari is not disposed to this request to repatriate the said funds without a trial of the former governor; to ascertain the governor’s alleged errors in these transactions.

“Why would it take Christiane Amanpour of CNN, to remind Amaechi of such errors of over N80 billion Naira public funds in two different countries, and why in his name?” queried the Presidency.


It could be recalled that Christiane Amanpour accused the former governor of Rivers State; Mr. Rotimi Amaechi of stacking the sum of $757 million dollars (N80 billion Naira) in Bancorp Bank in Minnesota in the United State.
