Hello, I actually wrote this as a response to a question posted by Logic Mind about going to heaven, but I decided to post it as a new topic for everyone. I will try to explain the truth to you. And I pray God will help you understand what I'm trying to convey. So here's the question he asked: Can I Still Go To Heaven Even If I Don't Believe In God? Here's my reply: You may have tried to follow the golden rule all your life, but we all know no one has or will ever follow the golden rule PERFECTLY. We all fall short (that is called sin). Regardless of all the good we've done since we were born, we've all sinned countless times. So the question now is, what are we going to do about our sin? We've sinned against a perfect and eternal God. And the Bible says that the wages sin pays is death. You may say God is merciful so He should overlook our sins. But that would make Him an unjust and dishonest judge. Think about it: Let's say someone committed murder and was taken to a law court. And the person walks up to the judge and says: Yes, I committed a crime but I've always followed the golden rule except today. I've fed the hungry, given to the poor, helped people...etc, so you, mr judge, should overlook my crime. Do you think a just and honest judge would allow him go free? Of course not! You may have done a lot of good things but you must still pay for the all the sins/wrong things you've done. How many lies have you ever told? How many times have you insulted people? How many times have you lusted? How many times have you being angry, etc? God is holy and just so He must punish every sinner (and that includes you and I). So how can we escape this? Fortunately God provided a way of escape through Jesus. About 2000 years ago, God's justified wrath was poured out on Jesus while on the cross. Jesus was punished as if He was the one who committed every sin we've committed since we were born. He was punished for the sins of the whole world. He was put to death so that we wouldn't be put to death for our sins. The only thing left for us to do is accept What Jesus did for us by faith and truly repent of all the sins we've committed, so that we can receive forgiveness. This may not be the best write-up but I pray God helps everyone who reads this to understand it and receive it. God bless you all. |
Image123: Why do we major on non essentials? There's nothing wrong with celebrating easter, thanksgiving etc. You people are too religious, God needs righteous people not religious people.Amen! I was just about to post that scripture but then saw you already posted it. Here's another scripture: Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. - Colossians 2:16,17 Sure, we may not have all the right dates and days, it doesn't really matter. I heard the Jews have their Calander which they adjusted over the centuries just as the western world have their calender which they changed and adjusted over the centuries as well. So you have two different calenders here. "Christ did die on a Friday! But you are assuming that the modern Jewish way of dating is unchanged since the time of the first century, but they adjusted their calender just like the western world did! And so both calenders are evolved! Yes, this year the jewish passover falls on the same week as the western easter date, but these dates changes every year. And so in some years it's(the two feast days) close while in other years it isn't." - Jnormm In conclusion, if you want to celebrate Easter, good! If you don't want to celebrate Easter, it's all good too! Let each man be convinced in his own mind. Don't judge me if I choose to celebrate it and don't judge me if I don't! ![]() In whatever you do, do it to the glory of God. |
tumababa: If its a new one with pack and complete accessories, good price.Ok, thanks so much for the help. God bless! |
Thanks for the reply. But I'm more concerned about the price. Do you think 85k is ok for an 8GB iPhone 4? |
Available! |
My dad just bought an iPhone 4 two days ago for 85K here in Enugu. I was surprised that there was no earphone included. Furthermore, on the receipt it says 16GB internal memory but I checked the phone and all it has is 8GB. So I just want to know if earphones are included in all iPhones being sold here in Nigeria. Should I go back and ask them for the earphone? And I'd like to know if the price was ok or on the high side. Thanks guys for the help. |
Docjay487:The first few months after I got saved, I deleted all the songs I downloaded illegally. It wasn't easy though. I'd recommend that you delete them. Unless you can email the artists and let them know you downloaded for free. If they give permission to keep, then you can keep them. I don't know if they would respond or not, but you could use twitter. A lot of artists do respond to people on twitter. |
Thanks. But I mean where I can buy those albums in Nigeria. I don't want to download them. It's illegal lol. |
walegees:I live in Enugu. It's a cool city ![]() |
Whoa! And I thought the problem was peculiar to ESUT. We went to school on Tuesday and Wednesday, and were told the call-up letters had not arrived the school yet. |
How exactly does this improve the lives of Nigerians? |
This is really sad. But I must point out that what she heard was an evil spirit, not the Holy Spirit! When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them, and said, "You know not what manner of spirit you are of." Luke 9:54,55 |
I'm not experienced in handling these kind of issues, but lots of prayers will surely help. I hope he's not just a Christian but actually born again. In addition, I think he should openly let his former colleagues know that he has repented. |
I have a feeling this is the scripture you're waiting for: Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 |
double post! |
First off, we must get it clearly that we're saved by the GRACE of God through FAITH alone! However, throughout the Bible we do see promises that Christians will suffer. This suffering does vary, nevertheless we will suffer; we must carry our cross. But no matter what we face, God will always give us the strength to endure and overcome. Below are some scriptures to consider: 2 Timothy 2:3 - Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Romans 5:3 - Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; Philippians 3:10 - I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 1 Peter 4:16 - However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 2 Timothy 3:12 - In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 1 Peter 5:10 - And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. Romans 8:18 - I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. |

Please, which particular machinery are you interested in, so we can talk the price? |
goshen360:Though I understand what you're trying to say, but it's not always a black and white issue. Does that include the ten commandments? And why did Paul obey the law? Acts 21:24 Then everyone will know there is no truth in these reports about you, but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law. Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law. Romans 3:31 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 1 John 3:4 Though we're not saved by obeying the law, we're saved to obey the law! |
joeace2020:Well, I think in the court of law, ignorance is no excuse. Though it's been a while since I read Uzzah's story, but I think God did directly strike him dead. Btw, Uzzah didn't act out of ignorance. He knew God commanded them not to touch the Ark. God is a just judge, so He must justly punish law breakers. The soul that sinneth shall die. Uzzah disobeyed and sinned against God, so he died. |

suggary:First off, always keep in mind that God is not pleased with you having this tantrum; no matter how the devil tries to tell you otherwise. Ask God to set you free from it. I don't think you need to go to deliverance if you're born again. Delve into God's word; meditate on it; obey it. Always keep in mind that this world is temporary, keep eternity in mind. Most of the things we face here that provoke us to anger are really not worth it. It's just our flesh trying to deceive us. I hope this helps. God bless. |
Joagbaje:Yes, prosperity of the soul is part of the gospel lol. Has it ever occurred to you that "the poor" there is referring to the POOR IN SPIRIT, not the physically poor. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 5:3 The poor are those who understand that they're spiritually and morally bankrupt, and that they need a Saviour. |
Nice idea! But a lot of factors may hinder it. But if it's God's will then He would give us the grace to do so despite the obstacles. |
mkmyers45:That's called self-control. A fruit of the Spirit. With God's help you can discipline yourself not to give in to drunkeness. Saying we shouldn't drink at all because we might give in to drunkeness is like saying we shouldn't eat because we might give in to gluttony. |
frosbel: Pastor Kun:@frosbel, we do too. So where's your place of worship, or you don't have any? @Pastor, you're interdenominational? I'm not too happy that we have thousands of denominations but that's something we have to deal with. What really matters is that we all hold on to the basic and essential teachings in christianity, such as virgin birth, deity of Christ, death, burial, resurrection, baptism, faith, repentance, etc. I'm not too bothered about the other minor issues. |
mkmyers45:So where does it say we shouldn't drink at all? Those scriptures are talking about drunkeness. Btw, why did Paul encourage Timothy to drink a little wine because of his illnesses? 1 Timothy 5:23 - Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses. |
goshen360:So belonging to a denomination is churchianity? Btw, I'm not trying to argue which denomination is better or not. I'm just curious to know which denomionation folks on nairaland belong to. |
mkmyers45:Specific verses, Please? |
Intake of alcohol is not a sin, getting drunk is. No where in scripture are we told that taking alcohol is a sin. What scripture is against is drunkeness. Personally, I don't drink alcohol but I don't think it's right to lay it down as a rule for everyone. However, we are different, so we should be careful. If you observe that you have the tendency to over-drink, then it may be best to give up alcohol totally or get help from health specialists who can help you keep it in moderation. |
I'll go first: Baptist! |
mkmyers45: mkmyers45:We must come to a point whereby we realise that God always does what is right even when our finite minds don't fully understand it. His ways are not our ways, His thoughts are different from ours. He knows the end from the beginning. Romans 8:28 clearly states that "All things work for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose". It says ALL THINGS; and that includes sickness, health, poverty, prosperity, etc. At the end of the day, God is more concerned about our eternity than this temporal life we have. What is 70 to 120 years here on earth when compared to 10+ billion years in eternity? It is like a drop of water in the ocean. God is more interested in our eternal salvation. That's why He said it is better to gain eternity with one eye than to have both and be thrown into hell. The truth is, we cannot fully understand it all, because we are finite beings trying to figure out an Infinite God. We can only understand as much as God has revealed to us in His word. Anyway, from what I understand from the Bible, God allows the devil to bring death, sickness, hardship, etc on people. The devil does so in order to destroy us. But somehow God turns it around and uses it to build us up. As Joseph told his brothers, "You meant it for evil but God meant it for good". I do believe it is right to say the Lord gives and takes. Apparently, the book of Job says so. Look at this verse: , They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the LORD had brought on him,, - Job 41:11 God may not have directly brought suffering on Job, but He did give satan the permission to do so. He allowed satan to kill and destroy. But at the end, what satan meant for evil God turned around for good. Job was blessed much more than he was at the beginning. So, in conclusion, no matter what we face here on earth we should make up our mind to hold on to God and never doubt His goodness and faithfulness. God never promised a trouble-free life but He promised that He would always give us the strength to endure and overcome. Romans 8:18 - I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. |
