European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Chxta(m): 5:40pm On Sep 28, 2006
Today is the tenth anniversary of Arsenal Wenger replacing Bruce Rioch as Arsene manager, so it's a day of wild celebration for Gooners. Which, given that two fans were ejected from the Emirates Stadium last Saturday for the grotesque crime of singing, probably means gathering around a turned-off iPod and whispering "for he's a jolly good fellow". Still, it would be churlish of us not to mark the occasion by listing the Frenchman's impressive achievements. . .

Since arriving at Highbury in 1996, Wenger has led the Gunners to three Premierships, four FA Cups, two European finals and 4,768 red cards. More than that, he has transformed the team from a boring bunch of grinders into a sensational amalgam of gifted artists, elite athletes and Justin Hoyte. In 2003-04, his side was the first English side to go a whole season unbeaten in over a century, and they built on that by finishing 12 points behind ch€£$k¥ the following year.

Some of these feats were pulled off despite stringent financial constraints imposed by the club's switch to a new ground, and this is where the economics graduate's famed mastery of the transfer market came into play. Ingenious bargain buys include Nicolas Anelka, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Freddie Ljungberg and Cesc Fabregas, not to mention Nelson Vivas, Pascal Cygan and Franny Jeffers. No seriously, not to mention them. That's exactly what the man everyone thinks is Arsenal chairman but actually isn't, David Dein, didn't do today, when he again hailed Wenger as a hero and said he'd have a job at Arsenal for life. "We want him for the rest of his career," gushed the media-hungry vice chairman. "If he wanted to give up the tracksuit he'd be invaluable in the boardroom in a technical role."

All of which means that even Lahn's Lahn Evenin Stannah, who famously greeted the Frenchman's arrival from Nagoya Grampus Eight with the headline 'Arsene Who?', must agree that Wenger is the greatest thing to come from Japan since beer-pumping robotic chopsticks with built-in coffee-maker and skis. Or something.

@ Afo, I've left a reply concerning your phone on the Ubuntu thread.

I recommend installing compiz/xgl on Ubuntu. It looks just fucking amazing guys! I still think there are other things that should be done to make it look cooler, but I just love the Cube and the Wobbly stuff, plus the transperency it offers.

Any tips?

What program does RedHat use to identify the phone?

If the program comes as an RPM package, then install alien first before installing that program:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install alien

Chxta's World

I think this deserves a thread of its own. . .

I have a class in the next 10 minutes, but the news coming from the motherland is too juicy to ignore. Yesterday, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu the chairman of the EFCC sat before the Senate to present a long awaited report on the activities of the governors of our states. And the report was hot. Below is a summary of who has been indicted, who is still under investigation, and the one man who has been given a clean bill of health.

INDICTED
1) Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia)
2) Boni Haruna (Adamawa)
3) Ayo Fayose (Ekiti)
4) Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu)
5) Saminu Turaki(Jigawa)
6) Adamu Abdullahi (Nassarawa)
7) Joshua Dariye (Plateau)
cool Jolly Nyame (Taraba)
9) Sani Ahmed (Zamfara)

UNDER INVESTIGATION

1) Adamu Mu’azu (Bauchi)
2) James Ibori (Delta)
3) Lucky Igbinedion (Edo)
4) Ahmed Markafi (Kaduna)
5) Bola Tinubu (Lagos)
6) Gbenga Daniel (Ogun)
7) Peter Odili (Rivers)
cool Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto)

Clean bill of health
1) Donald Duke (Cross Rivers)

Some may say otherwise, and though I disagree with numbers 2, 3 and 7 of the investigations list (I believe that they should be indicted), while number 5 on the indicted list casts some doubts for me, it is generally a good thing. Forget the fact that Obasanjo is not there (well, he isn't a governor), his time will come.

Meanwhile, may I be permitted to recommend a punishment for item 9 on the indicted list? Amputation?

davidylan:
No wait Chxta,

You claim the break away countries wont work as long as we still have the same recycled politicians, since these arsinine men are the ones presently in power, is it any wonder Nigeria is not working at all?
Does common sense not indicate that a break up will definitely lead to a shake up of those in power? If the south went its way, whence will we sit down allowing idiots like Babangida to still be laying claim to the presidency? Will Atiku force himself on the south to be president? Will the likes of Buhari have the nerves to still be hankering for rotational presidency? Will the likes of Ibrahim Mantu decide to decieve us by enshrining life presidency in our constitution?

With the devolution of powers to the units and decentralisation of power, will we still have the near fatal brawl for the top job?
Let's assume for the sake of simplicity that Naija were four countries (giving the South-South their own). Babangida and Atiku (both corrupt) would stake a claim for what is now Northern Nigeria. Fayose, Akande and some others would stake a claim for Western Naija. Kalu, Nnamani and Nzeribe (https://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m32/Chxta/Juventuz%20smilies/yuck.gif) would stake a claim for the East. In the South, we'd have people like Odili, Ibori and Igbinedion running the shows.

AM I WRONG?

Nutter:
Actually, the insults started with the topic asking the South-South to shut up. Ono only responded by asking you to shut up as well. You can see that, can't you?
No I can't. I expect people to be smarter than just responding to the title of an article without reading its contents. Which is what he did. I daresay that he hasn't read that article till date based on his responses.

No, I think you should be asking yourself why the breakaway nations shouldn't be given a chance if nigeria (by your owm admission) isn't working.
Because the break away nations had their chance in 1967, and instead of taking that chance fought a war to bring the one part that was bold enough to try to take the opportunity back into the fold. Since we have spilled blood to solidify the union, the union must remain. It can work if given the chance, AND IT WILL WORK.

Dear, those statements about Iran are still as valid today, it was not Khomeini who insisted on the destruction of Isreal on national television, it was not Khomeini who called for the ouster of "liberal and secular" lecturers neither is he the one responsible for emasculating the press! I'm also sure Khomeini was not alive during the Isreal-hizbalah conflict!
Girls wear tight fitting jeans skirts along the streets of Tehran. I believe that the lack of that is one of the things you fellows complain about when you talk of lack of freedom.

There is a vibrant opposition press in Iran.

Rafsanjani is/was moderate. It is an example of a vibrabt democracy at work that when the current incumbent's term is over, he will step down and some other moderate could take over. Ahmadinajad came into office on the back of the failure of Rafsanjani's reforms, not because Iranians are all fanatics frothing at the mouth as you (and the likes) claim. But then, according to you guys, Iran is not a democracy. . .https://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m32/Chxta/Juventuz%20smilies/disagree.gif

I beg to differ on Ahmadinejad. That guy is a raving lunatic who wouldnt hesitate to arm even al Queida if given the chance.Such extremism is really uncalled for
Let us assume that all Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants is the destruction of Israel (as against the advancement of his people, and the removal of US dominance of his region), do you really for one minute believe that he speaks for every and all Iranian, let alone Arab? Ever heard of Akbar Rafsanjani?
