Who will Hell rufai,Kwankwaso, Senator Ndume, Ahmed Zanna, and Liar Muhammed be calling on GSM to be blowing people up and kidnapping innocent school girls when APC lose elections?

Ihejirika was able to drive them away from Abuja and other states where they made sure to blow up churches every sunday. They were even driven out of Maiduguri and into the forest. Now that they came out to capture small Konduga where they can shower, NA came and killed Shekau.

OMG, what will APC do now? All the Boko boys are afraid of impersonating Shekau because his fate may befall them grin grin grin grin grin grin cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cry cry cry cry cry cry

PoliticsRe: Imo State Announces Absolute Free Education To Non Indigenes In State University by cjrane: 4:08pm On Sep 25, 2014
n the time of Dee Sam Mbakwe, the Imo state and former Bendel state were undisputably the champions in education. Today, the reverse is the case, especially for Imo. Free education is a good thing. But what is even of even greater importance is QUALITY education.

When people are offered "free education" while there are no functional university laboratories in the school, the buildings are derelict looking like glorified primary school classrooms, the campus roads are in an appalling state and worst of all, the lecturers are underpaid and even owed, then you can see why the so called "free education" isn't the only priority. Infact, it is a political gimmick by those who donot give a hoot about education, but are planning their political future as 2015 elections approaches.

Imo is actually not lagging behind in the numbers of school children or graduates like we have in some northern states.
[size=15pt]The problem in Imo is that the QUALITY HAS FALLEN AND WE MUST RESTORE IMO STATE TO THE NUMBER ONE POSITION IN QUALITY OF EDUCATION.

That is where the focus ought to be!

PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 3:13pm On Sep 20, 2014
Innovator90: Keep your insults to yourself. We don't need such childish criticism here of "militant and tantrums". Look up definition of "militant and tantrums" before you accuse someone of such. Yes, I use hyperbole and write in metaphor occasionally. If you are well versed in the use of English and figure of speech, you will would certainly not get my drift. When I say Chime to take FG to court to hands of the project, I mean figuratively not literally. I don't know the quality of your education but please spare such rash criticism. We don't ned to antagonize each other here but to form ideas for our people.
Bro, I am not here to antagonize you.You have a right to your opinion, which by the way i agreed with. Just the tone of language was uncalled for. Yes, some people write English better than others but their contribution is often empty, and bereft of any concrete ideas except of course telling you to replicate Hong Kong in Enugu without offering any strategic road-map of how to do it with the available resources. While other may write bad English and with a few wrong spellings, but their contribution is very rich in ideas.

I learnt in another NL thread that if you have nothing to say in a discussion, you should begin lecturing the other fellow about literature. We are simply here to pool ideas together in a clear comprehensible way. Hypobole, simile, metaphor or irony, you lecture me about, isn't necessary because I'm not in your literature class. You'd be surprised at the educational level of some people on NL, which isn't the issue. We are here because we want to share ideas on how to realistically develop our land within the available resources.
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 2:37pm On Sep 20, 2014
Innovator90: Great. This goes back to my point that Enugu most build a functional airport. Anything short of this will set Igboland development back to 20 yrs and I'll personally blame Chime for this....how he allowed that nonsense, below mediocre of remodelling at his watch still baffles me for someone of his caliber with sheer taste for quality. He has to monitor closely whatever Federal Aviation is building, if it's short what he has in mind to attract investors, tourists and people in general to the state and region, he should take Federal Aviation court and force them to hands off the project to him to build it as he wishes for the interest of Enugu and SE region. A functional airport attracts airline companies and people to it...you rarely need to plead, convince or lobby for them to have direct flight out of Enugu. They will be the ones begging you to use your airport. I don't know how big this airport is, why are they hiding the plan from us? As I speak now, there is virtually no 3d plan of this new on-going airport they are building for us....if you have one, pls post it here! Why is the Federal Aviation hiding the plan from the public? You can hide it as you want but don't build us nonsense like the raggedy remodeled work done and expect it to attract investors and people. Show us the plan now so we can assess, critique it and tell the government what needs to be added or improved. Entire SE region is now on overdrive in development; I have never witnessed such massive development going on in SE particularly in Enugu and Anambra; it's unprecedented. We don't need nobody to delay us any further. The spine of my message is the on-going Enugu International Airport is supposed to be a regional airport, and must, I repeat must rival Lagos and Abuja...this is common sense. If you are not thinking along these lines, then certainly you are not looking at the future of SE region. We need a very functional, international-standard airport to boast the growth of a people(Ndigbo) that controls the wealth of this country. As I have mentioned before, it must have capability for flight connections, house multiple airline companies, aircraft hangers, cargo, e.t.c., these are what airline companies look for to use your facility. We sometimes ignore all these things and don't realize how indispensable these are for an airport to function to its full capacity and ability. Most of us who fly internationally; rarely seldom pause to think, why is it that these Western, Asian, or even some African airports are well organized, your luggage are out of the carousel in no long time; everything is in condition as you had it when checked in. We never bother to think the size and complexity of work these people are doing in the logistical arm of the airport operation...it's critical, just as important as the passenger arm, and most Nigerian airports score 1/10 on a scale of 10 with respect to logistics.

I hope Enugu government is reading this; this airport is just as strategic as the new Gulf City going on and requires similar and more oversight attention. I close by saying, the biggest legacy Chime has is the Enugu International Airport. If he fails to deliver something of international standard at this current yr of 2014, most people will be very unhappy with him, and certainly, will cheapen the good works he has done.
I am with you Bro. But i don't think you should sound so militant while begging the governor to read your post. He has tried beyond all of our expectations for someone with only a paltry $550 million dollars budget for the entire year. We are in a hurry to develop because the others before him had no vision or simply preferred to use the excuses of low budget to do nothing at all.If every previous regime had some vision and did a little, it won't all be so pressing now. The same is even more true for Anambra before Peter Obi who was undoubtedly the only visionary leader that state had ever experienced came on board in 2006.

I also agree he should regularly visit the airport and other key project sites to make sure the quality is strictly adhered. But,what's that talk about taking FG to talk and asking them not to work on the airport anymore and hand it over ? grin grin grin Bros, biko kwa, are you well? Even oil producing states as Akwa Ibom struggle to find funds for a proper terminal building, where will the governor pluck the money from?

The matured leadership of Chime is the way to go. Not ill advised childish tantrums over nothing.COOPERATION with the FG is the way to go. If they aren't doing it properly, we should work with them to correct the identified shortcoming.

That picture has been long ago nah. The development of Agulu 5 star resort hotel have advanced beyond that.See Obiano's visit there in April!

I beg Obiano to embark on massive urban renewal of Onitsha,Awka and Nnewi. Total reconstruction and dualization of some major roads. For example, in Onitsha, he should dualize Awka road and Oguta road with gutters on both sides, Street lights and traffic lights which will give Onitsha a great urban ambience. Some will come here and attack me, that they prefer dual carriages at Umuchu or Achina rather than the state capital and major urban centers.
Although i dislike Rochas for his style of politics, he gets some credit for dualizing some roads in Owerri such as Orlu road, Dee Sam Mbakwe road and doing a lot of urban renewal in Owerri,Okigwe and Orlu.Although he raked up a massive N200 billion naira debt to do it and still left many abandoned projects because he wanted to do everything in one week, instead of the organized way Chime starts one major road and completes it before moving to the next....and using renowned and qualified foreign construction companies to make sure his projects are of world class standard.
Abakaliki has also been transformed with proper urban renewals and roads dualization into a beautiful city. I don't need to mention Chime's exploits here, he is in a class of his own in this regard of dualization of inner city roads and total tranformational urban renewal. wink

Now that rural roads have been built, Anambra's three major cities must get massive urban renewal attention this time around than they were getting. A budget of at least N 100 billion naira spread out over 4 years to tackle Anambra cities modernization and upgrade will allow the government to spend at least N25 billion every year in up grading Anambra cities in a systematic way. I mean massive dualization and modernization of the inner city roads such as Ugwunabamkpa road continued down to Modebe avenue,Iweka road from the foot of the flyover to the Onitsha main market, Oguta road, Ezeiweka road,MCC road with a flyover connecting it into it's former continuation now called Oraifite street in Awada, Port Harcourt road into Fegge , trans Nkisi road dualized at least past the Federal government girls college,Limca road dualized up to Nkpor junction, Atani road dualized past Odekpe layout, etc all in Onitsha. Awka inner roads and Nnewi inner roads should get similar attention and not just tackling the federal expressway passing by these cities while inner city roads remain single lanes how they were built in 1900 by the colonial masters.

I just hope this isn't the initial gra-gra most new governors are known for; and that his enthusiasm for the job is maintained at these same performance levels! He's done ok with security. Now i'd expect that the economic blueprint he has for the state is already being implemented; we should have some feelers as to where the state is heading after his first year in office!

I want to see much more from Anambra than the usual building of roads (though i wouldn't mind if more urban roads are built in the inner streets of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi).....the usual donation of security gadgets and APC vehicles to state police commands; the usual buying of computers for schools; the usual renovation of classroom blocks and rural clinics; the usual donation of keke-nape, sewing machines and block-making equipment to 'alleviate' poverty and unemployment; the usual giving of small grants for business start-ups! All these (though commendable) have become the hallmark of governance in our states today! I want to see a whole lot more from Obiano in Anambra! He's done well thus far, but like Oliver Twist.....i want some more sir!

Ikengawo: New York has 0 federal presence, and Washington DC is 100% federal presence. You can't compare NY to DC.
The difference is with Nigeria the government was in Lagos because that's where the economy was, afterwards they went to Abuja but you can't say that Abuja's superior federal and government presence has made it more economically viable than Lagos.
I think making an overly simplistic direct comparison of America's Federal Government to Nigeria's Federal Government without considering the realities of Nigeria will make you miss the point.

In USA, the federal government resources are from royalties, taxes and specific federal investments. The states are free to use whatever resource they have within their states to fund their budgets. If Rivers state or Akwaibom were part of the USA, they should and will be more developed than anywhere else in Nigeria.

In Nigeria, the Federal government collects 100% of the states' resources and only recently it began to give back only 13% for mineral wealth mined to the states that own the wealth. The taxes are collected centrally and only a minute fraction is disbursed to the state. Key infrastructure projects in any state such a refinery, power plants, trunk-A road bridges or flyovers etc must have exclusive permission from the central government to happen, and the permission can be withdrawn anytime by the FG before any state can do it. In the light of the realities of Nigeria's unitary system of government, of course any state that hosts the FG will have the benefit of encumbering funds derived from other areas for it's development.Add this to the fact that Nigeria is a highly tribalistic place where the capital will of course be sited in the preferred areas of the country and whoever controls the FG will use the opportunity of the flawed system to develop his area at the expense of the other places in the country.

Abuja is a shining example of this unjust system. A thick bush was converted into a shining city within a space of 15 years, yet places like Warri, PH Oron, Eket until recently had remained isolated sorry places without good roads, electricity nor pipe borne water for decades.
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane:
I always tell this pep story to buttress the superior roles of airports over seaports in attracting major investments.

Consider that you are the CEO of a company. Now you want to begin manufacturing in a certain South American country called Colombia. The chances of making it big in Colombia are all very attractive- big economy, close to Brazil,Argentina and Venezuela.

Now you are considering two cities to site your factory.

1. Bogota - The capital city has security because the President lives there. It has an international airport that has direct flights from Enugu,Abuja or Lagos where you live. Also, it has a reliable and railway line to very cheaply haul your goods to the coastal seaport at Buenaventura for export.

2. Buenaventura - Is a regional city in the west coast of colombia with a seaport but no airport at all.
In order to get to Buenaventura an area teaming with separatist insurgents who are protesting for a fair share of the natural resource from the Central government, you have to first land in the capital Bogota, then take a 12 hours bus travel to Buenaventura.
Your bus must pass through two states Quindio and Tolima which have a very high rate of highway armed robberies, kidnapping of foreigners for ransom and the corrupt Colombian Policemen on many roads blocks that could easily shoot you if you didn't pay them the bribes they demand.

This example is a true life scenario for these two cities in Colombia.
Those who have visited that country can attest to this. I have not made anything up.

Knowing the above, where would you site your factory in Colombia?

Is there any surprise then that most of Colombia's economic activities happen in their capital-Bogota, which is landlocked?

If you substitute the name Bogota for Abuja and Buenaventura for Yenagoa, you could very well be talking about Nigeria.! So the advantages of airports to attracting investments are a worldwide phenomenon.
PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by cjrane: 1:03pm On Sep 17, 2014
kmariko: For a modern economy you cannot do without airport and seaport. Yes Nnewi and surrounding are trying in the Nigeria context of very low industrial base but it is still very nascent with products limited to local consumption thus a limited value chain with low employment and tax base. Airports and seaports add to increase the pace if industrialization as goods made say in nnewi are shipped all over the country and subregion at competitive prices and time.
You absolutely can not do without an airport , but you DO NOT NEED A SEAPORT.

I can list 100 countries without seaports that have built great economies. In USA, Canada,Brazil,Japan, South Africa, China etc, there are plethora of key economic and industrial cities without sea ports. Infact in USA and China, there are huge economic centers without seaports at all.

What you need is a reliable railway link from those cities to the sea.
