If dem twood see this your question, you go hear am. On a serious note, you need people to tell you if you can or can't pass an exam? You must rid yourself of self doubt if you really want to ace the test. what is your course of study. you can send a pm, I'm also preparing to write the exam.

Please I was denied F1 visa last week. Now, February 12 February is the earliest date which is way beyond the Start date. Please I need someone who can allow God to use him/her for me, that can reschedule his interview is falls in any day from 16th December to 10th January. So that I can quickly have a closer date, and not miss this opportunity.
For example, if it's December 17 you've chosen before, you can shift to let say January 22, provided that it won't affect you.
NOTE: New applicants have closer earliest date than the second attempt applicants.
Please everyone help me out!

Haha. May God answer your prayer.

Picture is refusing to upload on ds160 application.

Can the applicant submit the ds160 without uploading pictures?

Hope it wont be a problem at the embassy. Interview is on tuesday

Boss, applicant has to submit his ds160 with the photo uploaded. Walk into any photo studio to take a new passport photograph if the one you are using didn't meet the site requirements.

CephasNMR:

Thanks to Almighty God that helped me throughout this pursuit. My Story is a long one but I will like to share my transcript with you here.

First interview
Delayed
VO: good morning
Me: good morning
VO: can you pass me your documents
Me: sure
VO: can you tell me about your application process
Me: Immediately after my undergraduate studies due to my passion for graduate school I proceed to research gate where I got to know about Prof Honglan of MS&T and Prof Sarah Green of MTU and Nadine Kabengi of GSU whose work coincides my interest and I write to them and they encourage me to apply in which I did by submitting my academic transcript and my GRE Score in which I had a score of 310.

Long silence.....

VO: so why did you choose MS&T
Me: coupled with the fact that I was given a full funding that covers my entire cost of attendance
VO (cuts in): How will you be covering the deficit
Me ( my mind skipped): there's no deficit ma, check well the funding covers the expenses
VO (shout back): what was stated here is 50% assistantship, can you show me a proof of your assistantship letter
Me: I passed it
VO: keeps typing and eventually disapprove the application

Second Interview
VO: good morning
Me: good morning
VO: can you pass me your documents
Me: sure
VO: Why MS&T
Me: coupled with the fact that I was given a full funding which covers my entire cost of attendance, Prof Honglan works on waste water treatment which is a continuation to my undergraduate studies
VO: What will you be doing with this degree
Me: This degree will equip me with the resqusite skills to pick up a job of lead research scientist at FEPA
VO: how are you sure you'll be getting the Job
Me: which kind question is this again but I opened my mouth and tell her that my current boss works with the ministry of environment and she's a consultant so definitely I'll be getting the Job
VO: okay I saw that you have funding which covers your expenses but 50% assistantship was stated here did you have a spreadsheet that shows the breakdown
Me: haaa. Okay, I don't have spread sheet but I have a graduate offer letter
VO: turned it down and eventually declined the visa

Third Interview

Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning
Me: How are you
VO: Fine can you pass me your documents
Me : Sure
VO: why MS&T
Me: due to the fact that MS&T is one of the leading research universities in environmental related issues, I will be working with Prof Honglan whose research is a continuation of my undergraduate project which I worked on adsorption method but Prof Honglan will be working on development of nanoadsorbent
VO: who'll be funding the studies
Me: I got a full scholarship from the department in terms of GRA
VO: but I saw 50% assistantship here
Me: yes the assistantship is a 50% full time employment which covers my expenses, I have my offer letter here. ( I slide it to her immediately) I also have a funding calculator from the Graduate office can I pass it over
VO: no need
VO: so how did you get this assistantship
Me: I wrote a graduate record examination in which I had a score of 310, can I pass the report sheet to you
VO: no, so what will you be doing with this degree
Me: I will be coming back to Nigeria to fill up the vacuum of lead research analyst at FEPA where I did my undergraduate internship in conjunction with UI and I was awarded as one of the best intern, so with this recommendations and degree I'll be able to get the Job
Vo: it's enough.. Long silence...
Me: kilotunde bayiiii, answer me jare and let me go
Vo: are you married
Me: (so fast, not now) No
VO: I will be approving your visa .....
Me: ( I hope you are not talking to me) one small tears just drop for my eye, I quickly package my self and collect the white paper and waka jeje

Congratulations sir. When was your third attempt, This month?

Hi everyone.

I had to retrieve my password to submit this post as I forgot it as soon as I opened the account years ago. This is because I think it's really important to also drop my transcript here as i have read several transcripts from the older threads which really helped me today at the embassy. So I'd like to thank everyone who has made a comment or another since the beginning of US visa thread (I'm not sure if 'thread' is what they call it but you know what I mean yeah?)

The pre-screening section was fine but i got a bit scared when a lady who's supposed to confirm the passport right before the bio-metrics shook her head while looking through my I-20. She didn't say what the issue was but I knew I had to start praying immediately. I then noticed pink and yellow slips being issued to most applicants. If I hadn't read through this thread from part 13, I would have assumed they were all granted the visa because some of those applicants had been the US and many other countries before and sounded legit. I personally didn't understand the reason for the denial. Anyway, lets skip to my interview.

I was interviewed by a guy at the third booth which went like this
VO: Good morning
ME: Good morning
VO: Pass me your passport please
ME: Here
VO: So you're going to Georgia state
ME: Yes I am. i intend to study for a master's degree in Geosciences at Georgia State University
VO: oh Student Visa
ME: yes
VO: pass me your I-20
ME: here
VO: (looks through the i-20) ohhh Master's
ME: yes, Masters in geosciences
VO: How long is your program
ME: 28 months
VO: how many schools did you apply to?
ME: three schools. Kansas state university, the University of North Dakota and georgia state Uni but I chose Georgia State Uni because I was impressed by its academic ranking in terms of innovation, commitment to teaching and also research. I was also interested in the work of Dr Hassan who has worked extensively on structural geology. I intend to use the acquired to further study the Niger Delta. The Niger Delta hosts the largest oil reserve in Nigeria.
VO: (nods) very good. so you intend to go for a PhD afterwards?(then he looked right into my eyes)
ME: (looking confused) No, I believe the knowledge acquired would be enough to independently study the Niger Delta. My plan is to apply to Shell Nigeria, where I did my graduate Internship, as an experienced Geologist wherein I'd use the data acquired over the years to further understand reservoir connectivity and communication which would in turn boost hydrocarbon production.
VO: (nods) very good. So you did an Internship at Shell
ME: Yes
VO: good...I see you have a deficit of $12000 aside your assistantship. Who'd be paying for that?
ME:My Uncle
VO: Pass me his Bank Statement
ME: Okay but give me a second to get it...here
VO: (looks through it for longer than I expected and I suspected that he assumed the statement was in Naira but I didn't say anything) Oh he's in switzerland so the currency is in CHF
ME: yeah
VO: (he looked me in the eye again) i will be issuing your visa (pauses for a second to process my reaction) you should pick it up at the point...(I didnt hear the rest cuz I was trying to absorb the fact that my visa was granted)
ME: (emotionless face) Okay, thank you
VO: Please go there to pay your reciprocity fees. You should always take your I-20 with you when you travel......(I zoned out again but tried to appear like I was hearing it for the first time even though my school has put me through the entire process but of course he was trying to help and I appreciated that)
ME: ( nods) Okay, thank you.

What I learned from this is
1. Don't memorize your answers. Practicing a billion times would give you an default, memorized response but try to be flexible with it so that you can think while responding. This is because most times, the tension could cause you to forget the rhythm of your response and that could disorient you completely but if you're listening to yourself speak you can always replace a forgotten response with a more logical answer....Half of my responses weren't delivered as rehearsed.
2. Don't wait for the VO to ask every question. if you've gone through this visa posts long enough you'd see a pattern in the questions. e.g which schools did you apply to, why that school and what are your plans after the degree. Answering them before being asked shows that you actually have a plan already and didn't just cook something up because they asked. While sounding smart with your brief and combined response, the VO also wouldn't have the opportunity to pay special attention to each response like if they were asked individually.... I learned this while rehearsing with my Kid bro last night
3. Please don't lie. there was a man who said he hadn't been denied by any country as he has traveled to so many countries only for the VO to roll his eyes and say "really? are you sure?" then he started to confess and ultimately got denied. You can't tell how much info they have of you.
4. Please please and please, practice your response with the intention that you wouldn't stay any longer in the US than the degree you're going for. The PhD question that was asked of me was a trick i believe. If I had said yes then it would have shown that I wasn't eager to come back and that I'd stay back in the US at the slightest opportunity.. I actually didn't realize this until after the interview.
5. Be prepared. Practice as much as you can and be confident. If you're a genuine student with the intention to study for a better future, remind yourself of that every time because you deserve the opportunity.
6. Speak up and speak out. Don't frustrate the VO by sounding like you've got a sore in your mouth. If you have stage fright like me and tend to speak at a low tone in an interview, lean closer to the receiver. Also, once you notice that the VO is struggling with an Info, especially funding, clear the air before he gives you the pink slip. I should have spoken out immediately i noticed him struggling with the Bank Statement ... Thank God he realized it eventually but not everyone gets that lucky.
7. I don't need to tell anyone to pray. That's default. You should go in with the conviction that your prayer has been accepted. That can loosen up the tension a bit and also improve confidence.

I'm so sorry for the long post, i just wish to give back as much information as I gained from Nairaland. I hope this helps a lot of people.

by the way, hold your reciprocity fee. Its N40,700 or $110. You must show the fee in *CASH*in either currency before you even get past the second checkpoint and there are about 5 of them before meeting the VO (but they'd only confirm that you have the fee once). If you get the Visa you'd pay the fee and if you don't then you'd take your money away with you.

Finally(I promise), don't pray for the VO to retain your Passport because the system has changed. the VO would return your passport to you with a tiny pick slip and the usual white paper which you'd take to the booth where you'd pay your reciprocity fee. that's where they'd retain your passport and the tiny pink paper.

Thank you.
Congratulations.

Hey bro that was my quote a while back.. I work very closely with Indians and I have learnt so much from them. Honesty, information, learning/education and unity within themselves. All these are Alien to the black race. It is very hard to beat unity that is why they have taken over the IT sector in america. On the other hand we Nigerians are something else.. Nobody is willing to show you the way cos they want you to suffer and be beneath them.

The way they take the america thing so serious sometimes I ask myself, no be the same America all of us dey, america no pass like this na. Helping your fellow Nigerian is a problem, show them the small way you took is a problem.. it's so sad how we Nigerians treat each other in America.

I once talked about training people on my field to copy how the Indians operate they labeled me a liar, that the money I claim to be making is false. I kukuma keep quiet to allow them keep hustling day and night while I follow my Indians make 6 figures with ease.

People get refused. I am surprised you think this is bizarre; it is not. Recraft your response and go back. And one more thing, nairaland is known for being the place every applicant there and here curl responses used by someone else (especially by those approved). I advice that you craft your own response, uniquely to your case. Do not attempt to dodge any question when you appear again. Link your present job to the necessity of the program you are going for, and why you need it. It is not about the money in your acct, or the company you work, or your funding.

The quality of your responses to the questions determines your credibility for the F1 visa. The embassy is determined to give the visa to applicant them believe has this credibility.

Hello everyone please I need ur advice,i was denied last week and some of my friends are suggesting I reapply some say I shouldn't but my family wish I reapply.

Last week I was asked alot of questions by the VO but there are certain questions he asked me that is kind of wary.
First why am I going for master's I replied that my company is on the verge of promoting to a higher level and also to enhance my skills and knowledge he further asked why didn't dubia stamp my exist which I explained to him that I don't know but it was stamped in Nigeria upon my return I don't know if he thinks am lying, the second wary question is if my company would be giving me any funds or token and I replied saying No but they would give me remuneration fee but my dad is my major sponsor he asked what my dad does and I said he works for ministry and he is a supplier he asked to see my statement which I gave him and the 6month statement covers just 3pages meanwhile the VO looked at the statement thoroughly before denying me.

When I got home and asked my dad he said he was informed by someone I don't know to leave my school fees in his account so he wasn't doing anything on the corporate account hr gave me instead he left it there for me until I will be needing it.

Now my company is looking at giving me an agreement letter stating how much they would be supporting me with instead of the remuneration package they said before now they want to break the benefits I would be receiving.

Secondly my siblings here in Nigeria wants to give me their statement of account as supporting documents together with my dad SOA because they have good inflow and outflow.

Please I need your advice on how to make things right my school fees is 23,800 us dollars.

Are this supporting documents necessary can I go with more than my dad SOA.

Its really hard to pinpoint the reason for your denial but try and be consistent in your second attempt. You first stated that your company offered you a renumeration package, now they want to provide a letter showing financial support for your masters program. Also, you want to support your Dad's SOA with your siblings own. All these reek of desperation and the V.Os will readily dish out the blue paper without thinking twice.

All the best.
