Lanreclassic: President Goodluck Jonathan has felicitated with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his appointment as the Country Representative for Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by Dr Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. Abati said that the President in a congratulatory letter, expressed confidence in Obasanjo on the “new honorific position”. The President said that Obasanjo would ensure that the trust generated the resources required to fund legacy projects in the name of Queen Elizabeth through his wide network of contacts across the Commonwealth. Jonathan said he considered the appointment, not only a personal honour to the former President, but also to Nigeria as a country. He wished the former President success in his new endeavour. (NAN)

Politics › Re: Okorocha Knocks Out Nude Clubs In Imo by Classicalman(m): 1:44pm On Nov 01, 2012 |
Laila Ikeji: DISTURBED by the high level of immorality it has caused among Imo people, the State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has ordered the immediate closure of all clubs where women dance in the nude.
Briefing journalists on Tuesday in Owerri, the state capital, Okorocha regretted that the state had been turned into ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’ of the Bible where young girls dance completely naked in the clubs at night, threatening to deal with any such club operator who fails to carry the order.
He said: “This administration will not tolerate any lawlessness any more. We notice some lawlessness in the state and this government will deal ruthlessly with anybody found to be exposing our young girls. Enough of this nonsense.”
It was discovered by The Guardian that several nude clubs operate in many parts of Owerri with certain days designated for particular activities, such as dancing with their pants on, or completely naked.
The governor, who noted that such clubs were havens for criminals, directed immediate enforcement of the law on demolition of any house found to be a hideout for kidnappers.
While commending security operatives in the state for rescuing a five- year- old baby from kidnappers, who stormed a village in Isiala Mbano, he urged the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adisa Bolanta, to direct his men to work harder to secure the state during the festive period.
Also speaking, Bolanta said the command has successfully apprehended three suspects who allegedly masterminded the murder of the ruler of Umueze Abazu Ogwa, Mbaitoli Local Council, Eze Stanley Akuneto, last May, adding that they had been arraigned in court.
Bolanta also assured the family of the abducted Permanent Secretary in the office of the Deputy Governor of the state, Emenike Ihekwuaba , of the preparedness to track down his kidnappers and that from all indications, he was still alive in their den.
“We were able to trace them. Victims are highly-placed citizens of this state,” he said.
The commissioner also said about two kidnap victims were rescued in Otulu, Oru East Council while five suspected kidnappers were arrested.
He regretted that those who abducted the five-year- old child were taking her to Zamfara for ritual purposes.
He promised Imo people of continued efforts to rid the state of criminals, criminals, especially during this festive season.

I also want him to take the war against kidnappers a step higher. Any kidnapper caught should have his 2 arms amputated for 1st offender . 2nd offender should lose one of his legs in addition to d hands. 3rd offender will lose all limbs. |

Good move especially as concerns the customers. The 5/mille is killing. That is why some businesses prefer to open those zero COT accounts in order to reduce charges. But the accounts still don't give u d full benefits of a current account. I for one as a businessman wouldnt mind d 3/mille. On d other hand this may lead to more illegal deductions by banks to make up for d income shortfall or retrenchment, downsizing, rightsizing and salary deduction just to stay afloat. |
Politics › Re: BayelsaTV Ends Live Programme After Guests Criticised Govt's Inefficiency by Classicalman(m): 10:01am On Nov 01, 2012 |
gramci: The management of the TV station is yet to give official reason for the abrupt terminationof the broadcast The management of Bayelsa State Television, on Tuesday, stopped a live programme after the invited guests berated the state government’s handling of the victims of flood disaster. The one hour long programme at the state owned television station, called Gloryland Television , was terminated after 25 minutes when Tamarakuro Oweifie, the General Manager, directed the programme’s anchorto draw the curtains. Mr. Oweifie told PREMIUM TIMES he would explain the reasons for the abrupt end of the programmeafter “he finishes with his investigations.” Subsequent enquiries were not responded to. End of discussion Morris Alagoa, one of the invited guests at the programme said that he was surprised at the sudden decision to end their discussion. “We have not even attacked the state government, just saying it the way we saw things in our impacted communities and administration of the relief camps,” said Mr. Alagoa, an environmental activist. Mr. Alagoa and Godwin Ebbeli, another activist, were billed to speak on the flood situation that has ravaged several communitiesacross the Niger Delta region. While Mr. Alagoa, who had visitedseveral of the communities, spoke on the impact of the flood on the people; Mr. Ebbeli focusedon the state government’s handling of the situation, especially the funds released for the victims. “He (the general manager) thought we will speak like government officials,” Mr. Alagoasaid. In addition to the N500 million provided by the Federal Government to mitigate the disaster, the Bayelsa State Government had approved N1.5 billion from the state’s coffers, according to Mr. Ebbeli. The state’s House of Assembly had also approved a supplementary budget of N16 billion in the aftermath of the disaster. Mr. Ebbeli questioned the government’s handling of the funds, adding that it had not reached the real victims of the flood. That was when the TV station’s management felt they had gone too far. “First of all they stopped the program as if it was the usual breaks for commercials. “Then a staff came into the studio and told us, especially my fellow guest, Sir. Godwin Ebbeli that the GM (General Manager) isnot comfortable with some statements we were making about the government,” Mr. Alagoa said. After the commercial break, the programme resumed. However, a few minutes into the segment, a hand written signal appeared through a glass screen directing the moderator, Joyce Ogiowon, to end the programme. “When we came out of the studio, some of those watching it from outside expressed surprise too; why the programme ended the way it did,” Mr. Alagoa added. It was not exactly clear why the programme was ended abruptly but there were indications that Mr. Oweifie acted on orders from above to secure his job . While he apologized to the guestsover the incident, the general manager did not give reasons for his action, which also reportedly angered other members of staff. “Be rest assured that the programme will take place on a day we all agree,” Mr. Oweifie, a former staff of the Nigeria Television Authority, said in response to PREMIUM TIMES’ enquiry.
http://premiumtimesng.com/regional/105458-bayelsa-tv-abruptly-ends-live-programme-after-guests-criticised-governments-inefficiency.html I have stayed long enough in Bayelsa to know how they reason. The politicians always lord it over the people as if they are slaves. The people follow them like sheeps and goats and cannot express their views. That is why a Bayelsan LGA chairman for just 3month can erect a 5 star hotel and nobody will say anything to him. Go to YENAGOA, all you see are hotels and other big buildings all owned by political appointees. The Government does any shi.t they want. The people never say or do shi.t. I am not surprised this happened. Who are u to criticize d governor. You can even come out in Rivers and openely criticise Amaechi and nothing will happen. Try it in Bayelsa and see. The people are under perpetual slavery by their so called elected officials. |

Since Rivers State was created, only the riverine communities has been ruling the state as governors except in 1999 when Odili broke the statusquo and became the first governor who's not from the riverine communities. And thats how the ikwerres got the seat of power, so u guys (kalabars) should forget power for and let other tribes like the Ogonis to produce the governor b4 u guys. Don't mind them. I really dont think he has slowed down at all o!!
Infact, i think the second tenure is all about consolidating the projects started during the first.. Every trip I make to the airport, all I see is progress.. That road expansion is something I pray can be achieved before he leaves.. That and the Monorail.. In your dreams bro. I was d monorail conference held in presidential some months ago. The transport commissioner laid out all d plans they had on d monorail. Phase 1A which is now currently under construction will run from Sharks park area, through Chief Lulu Briggs road and Azikiwe Road to UTC junction (2.6km). That they will achieve by end of 2013. Then 1B will continue from UTC along Aba road terminate at waterlines (3.9km). They are also contemplating Ikwerre road (Ikoku-UST roundabout-Olu Obasanjo-waterlines). So far 11bn has been spent. I was part of d delegation dat was shown the engine of d train and other parts already imported and inside a warehouse. But from what i am seeing, 1B may not be achieved in Amaechi's tenure. What guarantee do we have that his successor will continue from there. Even the investment partner, TSI which is supposed to provide 80% of d funds in d PPP are not forthcoming. I pray d monorail doesnt end up as another white elephant project and a monumental waste. |

How many times do you see people staring at your car for the good reasons? Have you ever come out to drive out, only to see one or two persons taking pictures of your ride? How does that make you feel?
Have you ever been pulled over by a police, Road Safety or VIO officer, only for you to discover that he purposely did that to feed his eyes?
On the other hand, does your car turn heads for the wrong reasons? I read about a guy that drives some rickety looking car that its exhaust is so loud that it sets off people's car alarms everytime he pulls into a car park. Lol!
What's your own story?

I don't know whether people will believe me or not (as I find it hard to believe myself) when I say that 5 'sane' friends of mine recently turned down offers of employment from banks (Zenith, UBA, Access & the new JAIZ Bank), instead preferring low-paying jobs elsewhere!!!
Their reason - They don't want to die young!!!!
Pls I need ssincere contributions as this seems to be a new trend / development contrary to the 'norm' that bank jobs are amongst the juicest and most sought-after jobs.
I am really, really terrified and find this new development totally inexplainable! The O.P has a point. I am in one of those banks mentioned presently. It depends on the department they were offered: operations or marketing. Operations is a bit easier if you are hardworking. But marketing is HELL. Especially in d 3banks mentioned above. When i crossed over frm my former bank to my present, i was given a pre-employment target of N700m. I am still struggling to meet up with it. My colleague who crossed to Diamondbank from Access got a target of N1bn which must be met in 6months otherwise she will be asked to go. So don't be too fast to judge. It's obvious those guys were offered marketing jobs with heavy target. Only somebody with serious connections and liver can accept such an offer. |

The club announced a new £24 million shirt deal with controversial moneylenders Wonga on Tuesday, and now the Muslim Council of Britain have attempted to intervene.
United have received widespread criticism after unveiling the four-year deal with the short-term loan company, and the MCB has now piled on further pressure.
Four Muslim players represented the club against Manchester United on Sunday – Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Cheick Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa – and all are now being urged to make a stand.
Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra, assistant secretary general of the MCB, said: "There are two aspects to this. We have the rulings of the religious law and we have the individual's choice and decision on how they want to follow or not follow that rule.
"The idea is to protect the vulnerable and the needy from exploitation by the rich and powerful.
"When they are lending and are charging large amounts of interest, it means the poor will have short-term benefit from the loan but long-term difficulty in paying it back because the rate of interest is not something they can keep up with."
He added: "The Islamic system is based on a non-interest-based system of transaction."
The club did its best to offset criticism of the new deal by announcing that the Sports Direct Arena would revert to its original name of St James' Park, but it has not prevented MPs and large numbers of people through social media declaring their disgust.
... If they don't wanna play then the club should sack them. There are hundreds of christian and non-muslims all over the world fighting to play in the U.K. England is not an islamic nation and so those islamists should keep their sharia laws to themselves. |

superior1: Perhaps one of the ills plaguing this country include her teaming numbers of quack doctors. I lost a pregnant relative just last year because the doctor misdiagnosize and administered wrong treatment to her.
Last Friday my daughter started showing symptoms of malaria and we decided to take her to a popular specialist hospital located in Ikeja. The doctor on duty without thinking twice heard my wife's complain and gave our girl malaria treatment. On sunday, we noticed fatigue, lost of appetite, extremely high temperature, difficult breathing and running nose. Over sunday/monday night she couldn't sleep and kept vomiting all her mother was able to give her (including breast milk).
Today (Monday), we took her to the same hospital and was attended to by the same doctor who recommended a dosage of quinine and paracetamol but has my wife was leaving the hospital, she felt led to speak with the pediatrician who was just strolling into the hospital to resume duties. She re-examined our 10month kid and concluded she is with pneumonia and the thing was in advance stage. The girl was immediately placed under admission for critical treatment. If not for God, that quack doctor would have given my family another story to tell.
What is it about quack doctors in Nigeria (I have had friends report their adventure with many, one was even consulting textbook right in front of an acquitance ) is it that our medical schools are producing bad ones or medical students are no longer paying close attention to their lessons? My dear quack doctors abound everywia in dis country. Thank God for your wife's intuition. That saved your Kid's life. Our quality of education is at an all time low and our medical schoools are not left out. Half baked graduates is now the order of the day. |
