Angry Muslim youth have attacked a church in Ghana's capital after its pastor predicted the possible death of the country's chief imam in 2019.

An organ, windows and chairs were damaged after the youth stormed Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah's church in Accra.

Chief Imam Nuhu Sharabutu condemned the attack.

Self-styled Christian prophets have a huge following in Africa, and often predict major events, including the deaths of leading public figures.

In 2016, one of Africa's most popular preachers, Nigerian TB Joshua, predicted during a church service that Hillary Clinton would defeat Donald Trump in the US presidential election.

Critics poked fun at him after Mr Trump won. The prophecy was later deleted from his Facebook page.

In a sermon on 31 December, Rev Owusu-Bempah made 18 prophecies for 2019, including the death of either Imam Sharabutu or Ghana's Muslim Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Some Muslim youth asked the pastor to apologise to Imam Sharabutu, but he did not do so.

'Forgive the pastor'

Armed with machetes, the group stormed a church of the pastor's Glorious Word and Power Ministry on Wednesday.

The group streamed the attack live on Facebook, damaging property and razing to the ground a billboard with Rev Owusu-Bempah's image.

Imam Sharabutu appealed for calm, saying those incensed by the prophecy should forgive the pastor, who is one of the most charismatic church leaders in Ghana.

Ghana is a mainly Christian country, with no history of religious conflict.

In its reaction to the attack, the Glorious Word and Power Ministry said: "Christians, let's be strong and pray for the church."

Like in other parts of Africa, churches have become big business in Ghana and one of the ways preachers fill their church auditoriums is by making doomsday prophecies.

Although heavily criticised by some Ghanaians, these preachers attract gullible followers - mostly uneducated people - who abandon work for week-long prayer meetings to avert their own death - a topic which features prominently in daily services.

Politicians, film stars and businessmen also go to the celebrity preachers for "spiritual protection" or to increase their fortunes.

I was pondering this morning about murder , you know , with all the disturbing front page articles on murder and the gruesome pictures shown. I started thinking , how can people be so heartless and lacking in empathy to the extent of not just killing a fellow being but doing so in a manner that is savagely barbaric. These murderers must have mental health issues, anger problems or just plain evil built into their DNA.


Following this thinking, I began to wonder, but what about abortion, is it murder and if yes, is there a difference between a murderer who kills a grown man or woman, and someone who aborts a fetus.

Few things to consider about the Fetus

- The fetus is in a sort of oblivious state of being as it pertains to consciousness
- The fetus is not fully formed as a human being, so perhaps may not yet be a human being
- The fetus may be the result of a rape or unintended consequences ( such as intercourse between two careless people )
- The fetus may possess a deformity that if allowed to fully mature will result in a life of pain.


But there are some similarities between abortion and murder

- They are both premeditated
- They are both done for selfish reasons
- They both have expected and unintended consequences.

Considering this brief narrative, what do you think,

The abortionist crushes "number 1" with the forceps and removes it from the uterus. Abortion statistics are revealed, as well as who benefits from the enormously lucrative industry that has developed. Clinics are now franchised, and there is ample evidence that many are controlled by organized crime. Women are victims, too. They haven't been told about the true nature of the unborn child or the facts about abortion procedures. Their wombs have been perforated, infected, destroyed, and sterilized. All as a result of an operation about which they have had no true knowledge.

Films like this must be made part of "informed consent." NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) and Planned Parenthood are accused of a conspiracy of silence, of keeping women in the dark about the reality of abortion.

Finally, Dr. Nathanson discusses his credentials. He is a former abortionist, having been the director of the largest clinic in the Western world.

I believe that all people, especially Catholic Christians, should take the time to learn more about other faith traditions. St. Francis of Assisi provides a longstanding example and the Second Vatican Council's "Nostra Aetate" encourages dialogue with other religious traditions, especially Judaism and Islam. In an age when there is tremendous Islamophobia, fear of refugees, and the persistence of terrorist acts around the world, it is more important than ever to learn what our Muslim sisters and brothers actually believe rather than the lies and hatred so frequently mistaken for authentic Islam.

There is a new English translation and commentary available that provides rich resources, commentary, and introductory essays along these lines and I highly recommend it.

My former church member left Nigeria for Italy 2yrs ago. From Italy he went to Germany. Due to the strict immigration laws in Germany, he boarded a train and migrated to Netherland. Initially, the Netherland authorities wanted to send him back but he pleaded he is lost and he needs help and told the authorities he love Netherland and would love to live there.

The Netherland Government gave him an apartment and he was placed on welfare. He decided not to work because benefits from welfare are greater than benefits from unskilled labour jobs. Two yrs later, he is currently living alone in a two bathroom apartment and placed on monthly income. All these given to him for free by the dutch government because he told them he is a migrant who needs help.

He is currently building two houses simultaneously in his home town in Nigeria. He is jobless in another man's land, yet he is richer than most Nigerian professors.

We are really suffering in Nigeria. A nairalander once said that 'Nigerians don't know how much they are suffering until they live the country.' I have promised my self that i will not raise up my family in this country.
