I don't. Which of them understood how to press as a unit. Which of them understood how to drop deep to help build play. It is just not the same way of play.

That was why when Guardiola came in, he literally ghosted past all teams. Broke all records because all teams were tactically deficient compared to his team.

That was why Spain was easily a dominant force in that era too.

The Brazilian team were of the 97-2000 era were tactical amateurs to Spain.

They won't even see ball to play.
you're saying nonsense by saying "Which of them understood how to press as a unit. Which of them understood how to drop deep to help build play. It is just not the same way of play." grin grin grin

All of them knew how to drop deep and help build play... you're talking about players that love ( not like ) carrying and running with the ball from defense to offense as if its nothing ... if you watch videos of Denilson, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, R. Carlos, Rivaldo, Cafu e.t.c you'll see videos of them running with the ball from defense to offense if that's not building play to you then shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

it is an abomination to call those players tactical amateurs.. grin grin grin grin

Its Spain that won't see ball to play..

Abuses will not help your point.

At the end, Sampaoli used some mind blowing pressing strategy to nullify the possession game of Spain. It was analysed repeatedly. He is a student of Bielsa. So, tactical depths played a big part in the demolition and the French team lacked that.

The point is too simple.
TheGoodJoe:
Jurgen Klopp explained how Organization made it no more about better players. So writing names shows you are still off the point.
Football is not just about the Coaches, its mainly about the players that's why the same Jurgen Klopp and other managers are spending over $60m for players..

South Americans and even Africans play street football and in street football you close down your opponents and that's the mentality they had and not just about the coach's coaching...

Even some people on this thread say Osimhen plays aggressively when his actually playing the normal Nigerian way and some people also on this thread say Nigerians and Africans play physical football when in reality and truth its pressing football we play just that some African players can be overly physical...

If you're watching the U20 women's World Cup you'll notice the Falconets always pressing their opponents without been overly and too physical....

for people like you when non-Africans do it then its pressing but when Nigerians and Africans do it then its gra-gra... grin grin grin grin

So.......................

If the team of France 98, Brazil 02 , Italy 06, Spain 2010, Germany 2014 and France 2018 all in their prime were to be placed in a two legged league.

Do you think the Spanish side of 2010 will top the others huh?.
Spanish team will finish bottom of the group...

most of that set of spanish players are short...

the other teams will use corner kicks , headers , free kicks e.t.c. to beat them..

Italy of 2006 had prime Pirlo, Cannavaro, Gattuso, Inzaghi, Buffon, Del Piero, De Rossi, Francesco Totti , Luca Toni, Maldini , Nesta , Zanetti , Grosso e.t.c..

Spain's loss was down to the tactical growth of teams. That is the factor missing in the French team.
TheGoodJoe:
Pedro can not lace Ronaldinho's boots when it comes to skills, taking on players, scoring acrobatic goals, etc.

When it comes to pressing the last line of defence, tracking back to defend, attacking free spaces, opening of passes etc, Pedro beats Ronaldinho hands down.

So Pep will always hinge towards a player that can give him what he wants. Pedro is miles ahead of Ronaldinho tactically.
TheGoodJoe:
Off point again.

When Spain lost to Chile, it was when Chile was coached by Sampaoli, which was an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa, who was one of the mentors of he modern game we see today.

That was why Guardiola was obsessed with Mendy who was a student of Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille and Laporte who was a student developed by Bielsa.

So Chile side was still a side that were tactically sound in the modern game compared to the France team of 1998 that were lost in the modern game of today.
you're a clown grin grin grin

2014 world cup was on the American continent so for most countries it was like home matches even U.S.A reached 2nd round...

Chile had better players simple... prime Alexis Sanchez, vidal e.t.c..

Guardiola is not a racist. If not, he would not have loved Abidal.

Ronaldinho was not dropped for Messi because they were already playing together for Rijkaard. Ronaldinho lost his place to a young Pedro because Pedro was miles ahead tactically than Ronaldinho.

Excerpt from Guardiola;

“Pedro’s made me a better manager. He showed us the importance of pressing high. He’s a player that moves well between the lines and in the area he’s a killer.”

So the selections had to do with tactical depths and brilliance. It has more to do with working as a tactical unit than individual brilliance.
Ronaldinho lost his place not just due to racism but also because he was gaining weight and not serious about having a fit body.

It is an abomination to say Pedro is miles ahead of Ronaldinho tactically.

Pedro can't lace Ronaldinho's boots in any lifetime.

Pedro is a Catalan like G:uardiola and Guardiola is a tribalist.

I am just pointing out that it was not overwhelming display by France. It also highlights the point that there is more to the game than quality of players.

How ever, the Spanish side was too advanced tactically for the France team. So the Spaniards get the nod.
you're contradicting yourself...

the France team beat a super Brazil team 3 - 0...

The france team had very good headers of the ball that's one of the reasons they scored corners.. so If the France team scores 5 corner kicks against your Tactically advanced Spanish team you'll say " It also highlights the point that there is more to the game than quality of players. " grin grin grin grin grin

When you say 3-0, two goals were corner kicks. Scored by Zidane. The late goal was a counter after Brazil committed most men to try to salvage the game.

Ronaldo de Lima had a convulsion before the match and was unconscious. He was still knocked out unconscious on the field by Fabian Barthez.

A fit Ronaldo would have likely won't the game. With his team.
Goal is goal whether corner kicks or free kicks e.t.c.. France beat an extra-ordinary Brazil ( without Ronaldo ) ... that's what matters..

TheGoodJoe:
That France team can not tear or come close. They could beat Brazil then because of tactical deficiencies of both parties. The Spanish team had advanced too far compared to 98. 98 is like Stone age tactics to the revolution that took place from 2008.

I will repeat something I posted here earlier.

Graeme Le Saux who used to be England and Chelsea's left back interviewed Toby Alderweireld. Alderweireld told Me Saux some tactical defending concepts and Le Saux exclaimed, IF I KNEW THIS EARLIER IN MY CAREER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE BEST LEFT BACKS OF MY TIME".

This tells you the gulf in class between tactics of the past and today.

That is why Guardiola could drop Ronaldinho. It was no more about just how good you are with the ball. Advanced knowledge of tactical concepts is now key.
Guardiola dropped Ronaldinho because he is a racist and there was another finisher called Messi in the team.. or is Messi , Xavi , Iniesta bad with the ball..

Football is always about how good you are with the ball and what you bring to the team...

You are running in circles. You tried to play down tactics. Below is your statement.

Football is about goals not just tactics.

Then look at what you wrote on top.

Bayern tactical adjustments that made them to be better than Barcelona

Please, Guardiola had a big influence on Low and German football.

German football needed a revolution and Löw would be the man to lead it, changing the fate of the country's football forever. With a revamped, streamlined youth academy system and a pacey, dominating brand of possession football, Löw was a coach who advanced the profession.

https://www.dw.com/en/joachim-l%C3%B6w-germanys-greatest-coach-but-a-man-who-stayed-too-long/a-58102452

So even the Germany you are trying to praise adopted the possession game too. It was all thanks to Barcelona.

That France team did not have the tactical acumen to match Spain in any way. The Spanish side was far tactically advanced and would win the France team repeatedly.
I said "not just tactics" I didn't play down tactics..

That era had multiple special talents in their prime in one team.

That France team beat prime Brazil ( without Ronaldo) 3 - 0.

That France team will tear the Spanish team apart..

That Spanish team can't beat the Brazil that the France team beat.

Football today is all about tactics. That is why loads of teams play in a more possessive tactical fashion today. It is hard to find a top team that has not adopted to it. Why? Because, it is now king of the game.
Top teams are not possessive. Top teams have better players so the average teams tend to give top teams more possession and use counter attacking tactics.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by codemaniacs: 1:20pm On Aug 19, 2022
TheGoodJoe:

First, you are using the wrong game to make your judgment.

By the time Bayern beat Barcelona, Bayern Munich had made loads of tactical adjustments to get to par with Barcelona. That was why they got Hynckes who used to coach Real Madrid and understood the tactical setup of Barcelona. It took months of intense study after Barcelona earlier blew Bayern Munich to pieces which led to the sacking of Jurgen Klinsmann. This also led to Bayern Munich making tactical changes to their system from the grassroots. Even after Hynckes, they still got Guardiola to continue the tactical revolution of the team.

So, trying to play down tactics is off. The Bayern team you are using has made a lot of growth with respect to tactics by that time.

That France team there were tactical novices to the modern way of playing and would be destroyed by the Spanish side.
I am using the right game and it wasn't Bayern tactical adjustments that made them to be better than Barcelona.. it was the entire German football tactical adjustments that made Bayern better because Germany went on to win the world cup.

Just like the Liverpool vs Crystal Palace match if Crystal Palace had better finishers they would have torn Liverpool apart..

In summary,
A possession based team cannot beat a counter attacking team with prolific finishers. It will be a massacre.

Despite the goals in the France team, it will mean nothing if they can not see the ball. The Spanish team were far tactically superior and would win the French team more.
TheGoodJoe:

How will they score the goals without seeing the ball?
Football is about goals not just tactics.

A possession based prime Barcelona was annihilated by a goal scoring Bayern Munich the year it was an all German UCL final.

That Barcelona will have 68% possession while the opposition will have 22% and the opposition will win by 4 goals.

Even recently goal scoring Bayern beat Barcelona by 8 goals.

don't ever compare different eras in football ...

Infact don't ever compare football team A of 2018 to the same football team A of 2022... In football 4 years is a lot of time..

that same Spanish team got thrashed by Holland and Chile in 2014 world cup and didn't make it out of the group stage...

that's one of the reasons Super Eagles missing this years Qata:r 2022 is very bad because by 2026 most of the current players will be 4 years older and may not be as effective as they are now while some of them will be more effective... but by 2026 Super Eagles will have new players to pick from..

Yea. Glad we did.

On a positive note though, we seem to be doing well defensively. But for the early mistake by the goalkeeper, we probably will be going into the knockout stages with a clean sheet.

We however need to work on our offense. We are not as lethal as we have the potential to be.
Hopefully, Holland doesn't destroy the defense and the goalkeeper..

You do have a point... This same thing cost Senegal a spot in the round of 16 at the last world cup due to fair play rule... West and Central African teams are generally known for being physical
That's not been physical that's mis-timing a tackle or making a late tackle. The same thing can also occur if a player jumps to head the ball and lands on the opposition player foot. In most cases it's an accidental tackle but for FIFA and the referees it's a red or yellow card tackle.

When I see what Sarina Wiegman has done with a talented England team, I get so angry because of what Randy Waldrum did to Falcons and destroyed their vision for a tenth title.

Not even the mighty Germany and Brazil have 9 continental titles. Brazil celebrated their 8th title on Saturday and Germany failed to make it 9.

Falcons remain one of the best teams in the world and one of the most decorated in the world. Unfortunately, NFF continue to waste the team's potential with shocking recruitment of coaches
