SmartPolician: From north to south, east to west, this country is totally sick. I always say that nobody genuinely loves this country. If you want to see those who love their country, check how they manage public assets and funds.
To this end, state governments should stop awarding and running projects. Make everything PPP to get serious minds to manage the projects.
This country is just annoying! allocation should be tied to verifiable IGR. Anything short will lead to wastage. |

Compared to other countries not subsidizing petrol, Nigeria has one of the cheapest petrol price range. Is it the NNPCL effect little profit margin or the exchange rates suppression to make naira look stronger the cause? I suspect the latter is the reason for lower petrol prices. What do you guys think? Here is a link to petrol prices in countries around the world. And here is another for diesel prices in countriesAnother chart from www.nairaland.com/attachments/15818817_priceofpetrolacrosstheworldinnairajuly2022_jpeg751eeeb059ff8f6d770506892b512aaaOurs is lower and it points to the two possible sources. One is I&E forex rates. It appears lower than where it should be because a systemic rejection of certain demands is leading to lower demand there(I&E) and thus lower rates. This is making any import going through that window lower in price(petrol inclusive). Reason two: the NNPCL being govt owned, the major importer of petrol and not wanting to squeeze Nigerians, is maintaining a very low profit margin. |

One clear indication that the naira is still being held up artificially is the disparity between petrol price in Nigeria and other nations importing it. The fact that ours is lesser in price yet involves extra cost of transporting it back to Nigeria proves the forex rate is artificially keeping the price down. They cannot brainwash the black market folks into reducing rates. If demand wasn't high in black market rates wouldn't be going up. |

fineboynl: they do their are local money transfer agent all over Asia and Europe. They will credit ur account in naira and collect tour foreign currency. Most if this money are sold to importers all in perralle rates.
The growing population and technology age js the reason naira is on a free fall. We are nothing in terms of technology and very household has technology from tv to music to fridge to phone. Yet we don’t make any and population is growing. we import and consume tech directly. Little productivity. That's why farm machinery and iphones shouldn't be imported on same conditions. Make luxuries harder to import and productive equipments easier to import. |

jmoore: Anyone clapping for Kaduna is obviously a friend of poverty.
How can your cost of production increase and you still retain same price?
Petrol price increased 3 times and the keke rider in Kaduna is increasing cost of fare by just 50 naira. How will the person income increase with such? this path has proven a superior one to radically increasing cost with input. Patronage is kept at a good level. Sometimes it is about sacrificing profit level as the city hustles are secondary for northerners. |

Fuel used to move the water and power sachet sealers are cheaper. Imported inks and materials are equally cheaper to get across to Edo than Kaduna from Lagos. |

The average northerner is more productive than their southern counterpart and so can afford to sell same product or service lower.
Most of those bike riders also have farms and that reduces the pressure on them to charge too high. They also know moderate increase in price help keep patronage level.
It also explains why Benin people are first to hit the streets when thing go south. |
