Please how many people can afford to buy & drive electric cars? How many electric cars are there in Enugu state? If electric cars can become affordable for the average Nigerian, then this is a welcome development but as you can see,it is not the case. With the current state of things, this is just misplaced priorities.
investors will see the potential and step in. Don't forget transporters can trade few fossil fuel vehicle for EVs to force the switch.
NYSC › Re: Abosede Esther, A Prospective Corp Member From Osun Has Been Kidnapped In Abuja by CodeTemplar: 2:52pm On Aug 19, 2023

Two suggestions:

1.
If people should be mandated to serve outside their states of residence, NYSC should pay for any damage that occurs in the process.

2.
If NYSC is unwilling to pay for the damages, serving outside one's state of residence should be absolutely optional for everyone.

A whole NYSC cannot raise 1 million Naira or mobilize police to rescue a citizen of Nigeria. Yet the NYSC exercise is termed "Serving your father land", and the same NYSC stands as a god between graduates and employment. What kind of a father is Nigeria to Nigerians? Nonsense.
Same corpers they want to draft abi na mobilize to war. If they lost a limb to bomb blast in war, what happens then?

NYSC should be optional o.

Politics › Re: Subsidy, Palliatives: Tinubu On Right Track - Shubham Chaudhuri by CodeTemplar: 1:56pm On Aug 19, 2023
On the right track to implode economically.

Palliative in exchange for subsidy is like accepting double portion of food for 6 month in exchange for a lifetime of no food. It may work elsewhere but not in a country that's fantastically corrupt.

You put it into words well when you describe many losing for few to be paid. It is a contribution lottery system where only the organizers are guaranteed to gain.
Politics › Re: N5bn Palliative, Grant To States Shambolic, Unscientific – ACF Spokesman by CodeTemplar: 1:46pm On Aug 19, 2023
The best approach is bvn based crediting of accounts. NIN too can support it. A fixed amount to varying States sizes will encourage governors to resume swelling poverty profiles their states for funds.

Sensible thing to do. Imagine the so called palliative in states Lagos, Abuja, PH, Warri, Benin, Kano, Maiduguri, Onitsha, Ibadan, Kaduna, Zaria etc constructing just 20 - 30 MW of solar charging spots to charge keke and shuttle batteries.
That's better than audio palliatives or trains to Niger.

I no like GEJ, but if he had had a set of balls in 2012 of the steel kind, we would have been a major exporter of petrol by now.

Anyway, tinubu will soon bring back subsides. He is a typical Nigerian. Power matters.

For our sake, I hope he doesn't.
Subsidy is effectively assistance. If truly petrol subsidy was fraud ridden, a good govt could have equally scrapped it and put another form of assistance that's almost as effective in place of it.
But the corrupt govt of uncle Bola removed it and proposed a one time palliative. That's like denying a child snacks indefinitely in exchange for extra snacks for a week or two
Politics › Re: Why Tinubu Must Restore Fuel Subsidies Now - Farooq A. Kperogi by CodeTemplar: 10:12am On Aug 19, 2023
nairalanda1:
The problem again with Farooq assertion is simple.

He thinks that subsides can be paid for based on our one track economy.

Well it can't. Countries that have subsides also pay for them via the kind of taxation that if thiefdrugbareon brought it here, there would be protests

But in a way, I expect tinubu to bring back subsidy. He is a Nigerian. Most Nigerians love their subsidies

But all that neoliberal apologists in Nigeria do is regurgitate the racist, impractical, flyblown, ill-digested talking points that the World Bank, the IMF, and American conservative think tanks have fed them with.

They see sobering, indisputable evidence of the abject failure and cruelty of the economic prescriptions their masters in the West have imposed on developing countries but, like preprogrammed robots, all they do is repeat the discredited and unworkable ideological dogmas they have memorized.

They are ideological zombies who have a fixed frame into which they fit everything. If things don't fit, they force or ignore them. That’s why they come across as unfeeling, sadistic ideologues.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Why Argentina Devalued Its Currency, Jacked Up Interest Rates To 118% by CodeTemplar: 9:51am On Aug 18, 2023
grandstar:
Argentina is a perennial basket case. It should be an economic powerhouse but bad fiscal and monetary policies are the bane of its economy.

It always spends above its revenue and lacks the backbone to cut spending. Cutting spending would mean slashing the bloated civil service, eliminating transportation and energy subsidies. These are untouchables, so things just go from bad to worse.

On January 1 1992, the Argentine Peso was fixed at $1-1peso. Today, it is $1-350 peso

Those who want the petrol subsidy to continue want the above to play out, This should be a warning.
as usual, bullshit logic. Their bloated civil service for example is only a burden to their purse because they don't produce their salary worth.
Petrol subsidy should never have been touched without local refining capacity doubling local consumption

Business › Re: Dollar Crashes To ₦790 At Parallel Market After Tinubu, CBN Governor’s Meeting by CodeTemplar: 8:32am On Aug 18, 2023
omohayek:
It isn't, and if it had been, a one-time devaluation of the Naira would have ended the problem once and for all. The real problem is that Nigerian governments spend more than they earn, which they try to reconcile by a mix of borrowing abroad and simply printing more money. It's the printing of ever more money that causes the problems, as it gives rise to inflation, of which the slide in the Naira's value against the US Dollar is just another manifestation. Nigerians aren't surprised when tomatoes cost 20% more than they did this time last year, yet act shocked when USD also costs 20% more, as if Dollars weren't simply another good to be purchased.

This pure a loan collateralized with crude and repaid with crude. No more selling of crude before presenting dollar, they using ND oyel directly now.

It is like a farmer exhausting his income and assets for collateral to repay/secoure old debt, so uses future harvest to take loans so he can have cashbin the present. Very disturbing signs of a crash.
