How do you address affordability of private schoolshuh
Have you thought of viable and acceptable options to university education such as vocational schools and technical colleges?
Is it not terrible that public servants like Fayose and the UniCal VC are sending their children to private universities with money meant to improve public schools?
Stop saying the UniCal VC sent his child to private school with funds meant to improve public . The average professor earn well over 400k so he could have easily afford the fees for most private uni with 2 salaries.

you are the fool for still disputing figures that came from the official university website under a document titled "University of Lagos pocket statistics".

you want to believe the VCs round figure of 40k but you call me a fool for believing something that seems more like an accurate census figure that said there are 45k undergrads and 12k PG students from the OFFICIAL WEBSITE!!!
You must think we all have room temperature IQ like you grin. knock yourself out grin i'm leaving the thread for you
So the VC also rounded off equivalent of 4,000 students times N1.2m which is N4.8Bn annually when projecting what it would take to effectively run Unilag to the whole world. I salute your stupidity. Keep it up.

if there is anyone that is dull and arrogant it is you. go to the unilag website and see where it was stated that the population has exceeded 40k. the website home page which is the primary source of that info has probably not been updated in over a decade yet you want to take it that the population is that round figure of 40,000 instead of a figure of 44,602 for undergraduates and 12,581 for post graduates (as at 2013) which seems more like an accurate census figure. yet you are trying too hard to parade yourself as an intellectual? grin now who's the dull one now?

let me go the extra mile for you Mr pseudo intellectual. the 2013 figure is from unilag itself!!!

go to the wikipedia page and click on the reference "1" in front of that figure and it takes you to the unilag website to download a file "university of Lagos pocket statistics.pdf" which was retrieved from the school website itself as at 2016. check the attached pictures. make sure you click the reference "1" and "2" in from of the figures to take you to the website.

how could any sane mind believe the round figure of 40k against the accurate census data that was available on the website? grin

now I ask again who's the dull one? cheesy

btw college of medicine (MBBS, BDS, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, radiography, pharmacology, nursing, MLS, etc) and faculty of pharmacy alone has more than 5000 Undergrad and PG students. My public health PG class a few years back had over 100 students for one single PT program grin so how could anyone expect the population of the whole school not to exceed 40k and be even higher than the 57k as at this 2018? grin

pls visit the wikipedia page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Lagos and follow the references "1" and "2" to the unilag website before you come back and argue again grin

brain dead illiterate that feels he knows more than someone that spent close to 3decades living around and inside the school itself. I was 4 when my dad got his lecturing job here. i'm 29 right now. I did both my undergrad and PG here so if you are going to call me dull over something I have good knowledge of be 101% sure you are right grin

29 yes old fo,ol keep arguing against the words of the man who is in position to give the most recent and accurate figure. I gave you links to a 2018 source quoting the VC. So you think in a gathering where potential sponsors are seated the UNILAG VC will quote outdated figure and make wrong projections of financial implication of running Unilag to the whole world. Even wikipedia and Unilag site administrator get their figures indirectly from the VCs speech and you are here trying to argue stupidly against it.

I think onlookers have their own brain to decide who is the dunce between you and I.

FYI I passed that mark years ago.

so if you need a figure for a research you don't know you are meant to pick the latest verifiable figure? since I couldn't find a verifiable claim later than 2013 I picked the one for 2013. no one said i'm hundred percent right in my estimate of what the government spends on each student in 2018 so shift and find something to do instead of looking for dumb loopholes.

Politics › Fact Check : Buhari's Claims In Democracy Day Speech by CodeTemplar(op): 9:56pm On May 29, 2018
http://punchng.com/fact-check-buharis-claims-in-democracy-day-speech/

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Democracy Day speech has come under scrutiny, as a non-governmental organisation, Africa Check , analysed it and submitted that seven main claims were untrue.
Africa Check criticises the Buhari government’s touted achievements regarding the economy.
It notes Buhari as claiming that, “For the first time, 30 per cent of the budget was earmarked for capital expenditure.” The NGO returns the verdict: “Incorrect.”
It goes on to assert that, “In June 2017, Africa Check found a similar claim incorrect. In at least three years since 2008, the allocation to public projects on roads, power, railways and so forth exceeded 30 per cent.

“This was in 2008, 2010 and 2013, according to budgetary data. The infrastructure share during this time was the highest in 2008, at 37 per cent of the total budget.
“The lowest allocation in that period was 11 per cent of the budget in 2015, which was approved by Buhari’s predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.”
The NGO adds that experts said that the use of these funds should be the main focus, as only a small proportion of the budgeted cash actually reaches the intended agencies.
Another claim that was deemed incorrect by
Africa Check is Buhari’s assertion that, “The inflationary rate has consistently declined every month since January 2017.″
The NGO notes that in January 2017, inflation stood at 18.72 per cent, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria. “This was the highest it has been during Buhari’s term, which began in May 2015.
It notes, “At the time, inflation was recorded at nine per cent. In the 16 months prior to the new government, the rate was between 7.7 per cent and 8.7 per cent.
“In February 2017, the rate fell to 17.78 per cent. It has kept its downward trend since, reaching 15.13 per cent in January 2018 and 13.34 per cent in March 2018.”
Another claim was that “The country achieved 5,222.3 MW, representing the highest peak of power generated onto the national grid and delivered to customers in December 2017.” It was also deemed “Incorrect.”
Africa Check says Buhari said the alleged improved power supply “showed government’s progress in increasing the quantity and quality of power available to Nigerians.”
Buhari had said in his speech: “Nigerians from all parts of the country continue to report better power supply and less use of generators,” he said. The country’s long-standing electricity deficit is persistently blamed for hurting economic growth.
However, Africa Check notes that power generation has, in recent years, remained approximately 4,000 MW, not significantly different from 2015.
“We found no evidence that Nigeria recorded a power peak of above 5,000 MW in the December 2017.
“A February 2018 report by the National Bureau of Statistics and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission shows that the highest power generated in December 2017 was 105,152 MWh/h (4,381 MW), on 8 December.
“Nigeria’s highest generation ever took place on 25 August, 2015 with 4,811 MWh/h produced,”
Africa Check notes.
It added that, “Quoting internal data, Nigeria’s vice president reportedly said the country hit a generation peak of 5,156 MW in December 2017.
“We have not been able to verify this.”
It promised to conclude the analysis.

OK take this:

The legal entity we call Harvard University was officially established in 1650 as "a Corporation, consisting of seven persons, to wit, a President, five Fellows, and a Treasurer or Bursar ... which ... shall be called by the name of President and Fellows of Harvard College." This was the Charter of 1650, issued by the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, aka the Massachusetts legislature.

Read it well it's d history of Harvard university

Harvard University possesses the title of America’s oldest learning institution, founded in 1636. At its inception, this university’s name was “New College,” and its purpose was mainly to educate clergy. In 1639, the school’s name became Harvard University, so named for the Rev. John Harvard. Harvard bequeathed half of his estate and his entire library to the school upon his death. This significant bequest led the school to honor him by taking his name.

One rev. Name was used doesn't make it a Christian school. Boy used u head, check history.

I'd decided not to jump on these CU/Private fee threads because most of the critics just come to spew hate...but I couldn't resist the urge any longer.

Their words aren't convincing enough and are quite factless...but they will stick to their ignorance like pandas to stupidity .

Imagine that phenom guy saying 45,000USD is chicken change in the USA...he doesn't know that in the USA if your 100USD goes missing you'll be worried...except you're a millionaire... He sees people flaunting rented Bugattis, Mercedes and Ferraris on YouTube and feels money grows like grass over there...

Y'all should wake up, 10k in the USA is like having 1-2m down here.

They say Oyedepo makes profits from the school...not knowing LFC still supports the school financially from time to time... LFC subsidizes CU and LMU just as the FG subsidizes her own schools...

Schools that don't get any form of subsidy charge between 1.2m and 5m( Abuad, Turkish Nile, Baze, AUN) ...you should look them up...but no! Rather then get knowledge...they'll just resort to online rants like the e-rats that they are and come for a school that isn't hurting them or their family members...

Is it stamped anywhere that all LFC members must attend CU or LMU...must all RCCG members attend Redeemers University? or all Catholics attend Madonna or Veritas...

Can all Nigerians afford to attend UI/Unilag? Can all Edo and Kwara indegenes afford Edo University, Iyamho and Kwasu respectively?

But they'll rather critique the church and pastors for not solving the problem(s) their useless government isn't doing anything about.

Johesu strike is on going ...someone I know died recently as a result of the strike...but rather than blame the government; organise protests(peaceful or violent-so long as no one dies) they'd sit at home like koalas and expect Oyedepo and the church to revamp the health sector too and pay health workers since he's the messiah of the nation born with the sole responsibility of being a slave to humanity and provider of basic amenities simply because he accepted the call to service...
Thank you. They didn't make the scholarship selection and are here venting their frustration on private unis.

The figure for UI is even higher for UI at 430k per student each year. now compare facilities in 430k UI (excluding tuition oh) and a Landmark Uni that charges 600,000.

lol see this from your own link

if you want to use that 11b

removed salaries of all lecturers in unilag akoka and college of medicine for a whole year.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Lagos

there are almost 1200 lecturers in unilag from that write up. if an average lecturer earns 250,000 in salaries (note that professors earn at least 450k without allowances so average of 250k for all lecturers without their allowances is very very fair). 250k*1200 that's 300m on lecturer salaries alone monthly!!! 3.6b yearly

remove salary of office staffs (typists and co), security men, cleaners, porters, lab assistants, drivers, etc. I can't speculate much on this but let's give it 100m monthly and 1.2b yearly

remove cost of electricity and internet for offices, cost of printers, inks and papers, etc

remove the cost of computers for departmental and faculty offices yearly. note that my dad has not received a laptop or desktop computer from his department in over 3years!!! he's using his personal computers.

remove cost of maintaining staff quarters. the lecturers pay highly discounted rents. I stay in a four bedroom flat in a serene environment at less than 1/2 of what it will cost if I rented the same apartment outside.

remove the cost of maintaining student hostels and paying for hostel security, cleaning, etc.

remove the cost of buying research equipments and chemicals for sciences, health sciences, engineering and co.

note that I was in luth idi araba between 2007 and 2011. we used 5-10yr old microscopes in the faculty of pharmacy, idi araba. both faculty of pharmacy and department of pharmacology didn't have freeze drier grin I had to oven dry my fruit juice for my research in 2011 and I got lesser result than using the fresh fresh fruit juice cos heat destroyed most of the active constituents.

go to faculty of science and engineering and see engineering equipments that should have been replaced 10yrs ago lying down useless grin

after all those costs I listed up there there's barely nothing left for infrastructure!!!

stop arguing blindly!!!

now tell me how unilag can afford to spend the whole 11b on infrastructures when all it's income goes to TSA!!! the school will be lucky to have 1b left for new buildings at the end of the year!!!
Your ignorance is appalling. The point of contention here is the average cost of educating a public uni grad per year and not how the fund is shared for various expenses. It cost 275,000 to educate the average UNILAG grad and the VC puts the optimum value at N1.2m, you guys are always whining about 600k or 850k private school that provides those thongs your vc is demanding N1.2m for.

You couldn't challenge my factual link and had to resort to misinterpreting it to make irrelevant arguments. Admit that University education cost a food fortune and CU isnt over charging anyone or shortchanging the poor. It is so glaring from my submission.
