FEGEITOK: Pictures would help.
But let me see if I can make sense of your post.
Is the mold on the concrete floor?
Is the mold on the wall?
Is the mold on both? The mold is just on the concrete floor. Only at the areas where the water collectors discharge water. Thank you. |

FEGEITOK: This concrete is too strong!
I even use reinforcement (TMT) for the concrete floors which the laborers said is a very rare event. Greetings Sir. About concrete floor, I recently floored my compound and intend to use tiles for finishing. But I noticed some mold in some areas where the water collectors discharge. My workers said it's because they didn't use water seal. Now, like I said, I will lay tiles on the floor. But I'm still concerned. From your experience, will this mold affect the tiles years later? Will a mix of water seal and cement solve this permanently? |

michlins: when doing a tank stand,I ensure I place it at a place where the over fill will not disturb the owners or their neighbours. If your neighbour tank spills water into your own house (compound) even. You can ask him to remove the tank stand because his convenience should not inconvenient others Thanks bro. How much would do an 18ft steel now? Two 1,000ltr tanks.. |

michlins: honestly there's no way I can answer this question because I don't know what you agreed upon. If he did a separate foundation casting for the tank stand,he will by default be the one that will install as he doesn't have a choice. But if it happens that he did it on ground, both of you will have to find a common ground if you didn't tell him prior that he will have to install Good morning bro. Regarding the tank discourse, is there a regulation guiding how and where this overhead tanks will be mounted when you share a close boundary with the next building. My neighbor just mounted his and it towers directly above my masters bedroom, so close to the fence we share. Two scenarios plays in my head whenever I stare at it: Water trickling down and into my compound when the tank gets full and the possibility of those tanks falling over down the years and causing damage. From your experience Sir, how best do I approach this please? |

Biztech05: Cc: A building with a not so high DPC ?
Good morning house, Questions: . I read that if the outside floor is higher or at the same level with the dpc it can cause capillary action.
Yes it can leads to dampness 💯
From your question it shows that the height of your foundation is lower. And the person handling your landscaping might want to flows out the water in compound. Exactly the situation. |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Coiner: 3:23pm On Jul 01, 2023 |
Biztech05: No standard height!
At thumb rule it’s best to work with highest foundation in your locality, either as the same or A course more! Best is to make it a course more.
Biztech Consult. Good day engr. A building with a not so high DPC, how do you advise they do the landscaping. I read that if the outside floor is higher or at the same level with the dpc it can cause capillary action. But the professional I contracted is ignoring this, and going ahead to raise the compound too high for my liking. How do you suggest I proceed pls. Engineers in the house. Pls help. 🙏🏼 |

How much do you guys spend on a solid soakaway please. I have spent about 800k on mine (material and workmanship) and I'm wondering if it's the norm or the engineer is just being wasteful. |

FEGEITOK: I am sorry that he did that to you.
This is why I educate myself on anything and everything that I contract someone to do for me. And engage the vendor to find out how solid he is in what he claims to be an expert in. No insult to you, Sir.
Even though it is said that there are areas that are so dry that one does not need DPM, I don't buy that.
I feel that to be on the safe side, please and please install all possible countermeasures.

Rany4all: But even when the concrete is continuous, if a DPM (nylon) isn't placed underneath, the continuous concrete alone may not be enough to prevent capillary action na. My engineer did the german floor without that DPM even though we had it at site. Claimed that his workers didn't see it. I was worried but he ASSURED me that there won't be any capillary action due to the nature of the soil in the area and the thickness of the Dpc and some other things I can't remember. Pls from your experience how true is this? The building is at the finishing stage now. Is there anything else that can be done in the event that the engineer is wrong? |

MrOkenwa: I used 16mm in some of the septic tanks that I did in the past because the spaces also serve as car park. Not sure of the exact quantities of the materials because they were side jobs while the main buildings were being built. Buy your materials yourself and pls don’t suggest lesser materials. A poorly built septic tank/soak away is a disaster waiting to happen. All right. I will bro. Thank you. |
