Let's not be confused with the terms tons and volume!
Ton is a measure of mass of a substance. Volume is a measure of space occupied by a substance.
The pictures showed that 30tons of sand and granite occupies same volume which is not possible.
30 tons of sand will occupy about 19 cubic meters or 19,000 ltrs of space (19 pcs of 1000 ltrs water tank).
30 tons of granite will occupy about 11 cubic meters or 11pcs of 1,000 ltrs of water tank).
So if thesame truck is bringing you equal volumes of sand and granite as 30tons, then the supplier is a cheat. 30 tons of sand is more than 30 tons of granite as seen by the naked eye.

A friend just shared this picture with me 30 tonnes of Sand and Granite...

I dont think the initial poster meant qs would do work of the structural or civil engineer. We are discussing who leads the team at the site.
All you need is sombody who can bring all the departments together and achieve the building design goals at optimal cost.
The engr surely does not have monopoly of team leadership qualities or building knowledge.
I have seen guys and ladies delivering excellent buildings but they are not engineers.
As homeowner, do i need the structural engr to be on site everyday? Or architect everyday? Or M&E engr everyday? If i know when to call each one of them to site and if i can make sure materials are on site in time at good quality and quantity then why should I hire a 24/7 "engineer"? If I dont have these qualities and I hire a computer scientist who can coordinate all these people and materials, then why should the building "professionals" (whom i have paid to come and do their work and go) be fighting him?

Sufisunni:
QS would now do the work of a structural engr? This is a veiled approval for quacks!!! Later you would say even an account on site has experience and when building collapses they will start looking for engineer. Do you know how many people that have died vis-á-vis billion of naira lost? coz of building collapse due to "claimed site experience workers" parading themselves as structural engineers? Maybe an experience theatre nurse should be made chief surgeon in a hospital or CMD

In many worksites, the supervisor is referred to as "engineer" whether he is a bricklayer or plumber or DIY owner, dem no wan know.

Please educate me on how you’ve done it. Please with pictures if possible.

I’m clueless on how the water runoff on the downward slope will be handled.

Also, is .7 gauge roofing material in the market?

Muchas Gracias.

Oga, I am with you in this matter. Whatever you did, i will do .
I just hate those ugly block and slab chambers. Many moisture problems in abuja houses are on walls adjacent to those ugly chambers.
Even the blockage people talk about occur at those chambers where there is no smooth transition from incoming pipes to outgoing pipe.

EgunMogaji2:
And when one wants to dine with the devil one uses a long spoon.

1) One shouldn’t be having blockages in a well designed system.

2) If I do have a blockage and with two opposable thumbs then I’ll remove the blockage.

I recognize your opinion but my system works for me.

Cheers.

Once again, I’m just sharing what I do. It’s not a bible and doesn’t need to be followed.

n3xt:
Isnt it better to steward them to do roof beam which is far more important than chained lintels?
With roof beam, you still need columns to transfer the load to the foundation. With this our kobo kobo bungalows, how many columns do we put in them? We just use 2x6 wood as beam and trust the blocks to carry the load.
PropertiesRe: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by coldcandy: 3:41pm On Aug 23, 2020
n3xt:
Wouldn’t a roof beam have done a better job instead of a lintel?
Yes. That's the job of the roof beam. But many homeowners dont do it cause of finances. Some people just fill up the block holes of the top course
PropertiesRe: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by coldcandy: 3:25pm On Aug 23, 2020
Rexology:
Please, is it necessary to chain all the wall of a 3bedroom flat with lintel?
To save some money: Chain the external walls, for interior walls only put beam on door ways.
If there's money: chain all walls! It helps to stop further propagation of cracks caused by heavy weight of roof

Chambers!
My plumber and I are still fighting over chambers. I told him I don't want chambers but he cannot imagine a house without chambers. I designed the pipe network for him to implement but he is yet to do it. He said if there is blockage how will I locate it? I said i will break d whole pipe and replace it.
He is still pondering over it. I will soon fire him.

EgunMogaji2:
Yeah, that issue can be easily sidestepped.

Even if one is doing interlock, T pipes can be installed in various strategic locations. I don't personally use chambers on my projects.

Oga, just paste the price on your product and negotiate the transportation to where ever.
I remember you posting that you have not gotten any sales from this forum. That should tell you that your modus oparandus isnt working. Your location is already a minus. How do one transport one gate from nnewi to lagos or abuja?

michlins:
my business model is to ensure that everyone I come across leaves happier than he or she came. So whenever you need my services, just hit me up. I will give you one fixed price which I promise will be very comparably competitive.

Thanks for your advice. We're still willing to learn more
PropertiesRe: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by coldcandy: 6:45am On Aug 22, 2020
Number of 16mm depends on number of columns but 100pcs is too much. Use estimate of 1 length of 16mm per column starter. The 12mm too may be too much. Do 1 basket and multiply by the number of columns. You have to be on ground!
Pls use only 9 inch blocks for the foundation.
Post the structural drawing for better advice.

Get another roofer and buy the woods yourself. Go to timber sheds and asked them to show you different types of wood. Dont mention the particular one u are looking for.
Take your time. Dont be in a hurry. A visit to two or three mills will giv u good education.

That's correct. But the issue is when will it be full?
If the people tank A is serving are using d water at same rate as d pump, it will take a long time before B will take feed.
When tank B is empty and someone on the tank needs quick water to bath, he will have to wait for tank A to be full before B will have a drop.
The inconvenience can be avoided by feeding both tanks through the top connector. I will even equalize the two tanks with a bottom connector pipe to always keep d two tanks at same level all the time!

mufutau55:
When the Tank A is full, will the water not overflow to the Tank B? I am not a plumber o, just learning.
Yes, switchover connector is always good to prevent overflow.

It won't work sir.
Put the supply on the connector btw the tanks exactly equal distance.
I usually prefer a switchover system though.

EgunMogaji2:
Greetings and salutations.

Plumbers, professionals and amateurs like me, please peruse my attached drawing and see if my ploy will work.

The intent is a single supply source for both tanks to reduce daily work.

Thanks.

Thank you... actually my concern about the flat is the room close to kitchen, hope it’s not a concern?
Although I informed my Architect and he said no issue about that.
Don't leave everything to the architect. As d homeowner, when u have a feeling that something is not right then its often 90 percent not right. And you are right in this instance.
The duplex side is ok to me oo. But it seems you want to collect 3 bdrm rent at all cost from the other rentable flats thereby cramping the flats. Consider changing it to 2 bdrm. You can still hv 2 bdrm flats with premium finishing at a good rent. Moreover 3 bdrm attracts large families. You don't hv space for that.

Hello everyone, I need expert opinions on interior doors. In my present apartment, I can no longer lock most of the wooden doors because of warping. I have to drag some of them against the floor before I can fully open them.
I’ll be needing interior doors soon. How best can one select doors that would not later warp?
I need experience building engineers, home owners and experienced building enthusiasts to please guide me and suggest types of doors to go for and any idea about their prices will be very appreciated.

Some of the doors are to be used in some apartments that I am going to rent out to lower middle class so, going for some luxury doors is out of it.
