spyder880: Nigerian ingenuity, these guys are now converting 1924 Mercedes trucks to tippers. They do this by building a bigger bucket for the truck locally, then fitting the trucks with tipping mechanism after upgrading the engine functions. They do all these locally. The trucks are now popular and supplies sand and stones to many locations in the Eastern parts of Nigeria. I hired this one to supply me sharp sand in our Awka site.
@ Chekitaut, do you think this is up to 20 tons? No tipper can carry 20 tons of SAND. Not because of weight but because of volume. We have said this before: don't buy sand in tons! Just price a particular size of truck and monitor usage. |

But this morning he called me to say that I am to pay for the scarfold for the parapet and plaster that they are erecting now. So pls he is to pay the workers for the parapet and the plastering how am I to pay for the scarfold he require to do what his fees covered? Are you sure his fees covered scaffolding? Was it discussed before now? Normally, the owner provides scaffold. You can buy bamboo instead of renting iron scaffold |

DancingSkeleton: I’ve gotten 3 quotations for casement windows of these sizes below 1200 x 1200 = 12 windows 900 x 1200 = 3 windows 700 x 700 = 6 windows 1200 x 1000 = 3 windows
First quotation - 690k Second quotation- 680k Third quotation- 630k.
One of these guys is my cousin, he’s not aware I’m the one running the project but he’s the one who said 680k. I didn’t give him the roofing at all because he hinted he’s capable of ripping someone off during the course of our random conversations about roofing measurements and roofer’s tricks. So I didn’t even tell him about the roofing on my house project . My worry is that not giving him either of the job might put a strain on our friendship when he eventually finds out that I own the project. I’m not sure what to do, but 50k is no joke, especially this present time we’re living in. The difference btw the quotations is not much. But the difference in quality can be huge. I pay for jobs by careful balancing of quality, cost and reliability. Some low quotations can actually be the most costly. Pls give us the breakdown of the charges per size of the windows. |

michlins: Lagos is the epicenter of business in Nigeria but it is overcrowded already. To get a door to from Nnewi to Lagos is #5,000. To get a door from point A to B in Lagos is above #7,000. You see the economics. So whenever you are ready, let's do business. Distance will never stop us
Having said that, only Alaska is bigger than Nigeria You are becoming a good marketer here bro. You will survive well in this country. But I'm still trying to understand the bolded. Those pakistani cab drivers! My first trip to Dubai (the cabdriver was so friendly and talkative enough to understand it was my first time in dubai), the guy call me my bill in dollars, airport to bur dubai. I told him to repeat it 3 times. The 3rd time he said dirhams. davodyguy: The act of or tendency to cheat, can be found in anyone, irrespective of race or colour.
I have been cheated by a Cab driver in UAE (Dubai) who comes from Pakistan to hustle in Dubai. He took us from our Hotel (Akas Inn) from Sharaf DG/Al Bashir and cheated with trip counting, making us pay more.
A bus driver who's a female, cheated us also in Auckland New Zealand, cause we had no idea of their currency. In come countries, they still use coins. Hence you may not really understand.
We're talking about Nigerians being cheats because we live here.
It's same way Donald Trump's crying that he has been cheated, because he believes there are crooks in America. After all, Trump himself cheated the American system in 2017 by paying less tax.

Well done sir. This is how I do my things too. One question is how do we know a genuine quality stonecoated sheet? DancingSkeleton: I went back there today to collect my 50sqm and bought extra 40sqm, I could tell the cashier was embarrassed tho she tried hiding it, the other one was less friendly than she was previously because they figured out I’m the owner of the sheets Instead of the roofer they thought I was. As for the materials, I’m keeping a close mark and it’s been judiciously used. |

You can use 10mm or 12mm or a mix of both. The space u will need to cover with 5 lengths of 12mm, you will need 6 lengths of 10mm to cover same space. (5x12 = 6x10). 12mm spaced at 250mm c/c, is similar to 10mm spaced at 200mm c/c. The problem in nigeria is that 12mm is not always 12mm. Same thing with 10mm and all the other sizes. So to be on the safe side, use the 12mm that is widely used in the country. But always obey the structural engineer's design. jennann: Goodmorning everyone. I am a newbie in this section and would want to seek clarification on this issue.
My family is building a story building of four flats of 3 bedrooms each. We are at the decking stage now. However, the supervisor handling it is advising us to use 10mm steel rods for this decking as this steel rod is stronger than 12mm rod and can carry the weight comfortably. This is different from what I know with my little building knowledge. So I decided to come here to seek expert opinion on this.
Thankyou for expected comments as I know I d definitely get the best advice here. |

I am not a fabricator by the way, I just have few questions.
I understand people's choice and all but why frameless? How would a frame less window hold up in a long run?
Just curious to know if there are science behind this design or just an overambitious fabricator overshooting the runway.. The frameless window ofcourse has a structural frame but no obvious frame around the perimeter. It is also called window wall and is installed between slabs or window opening to flush with the external wall. |
