ipad: Mister, you're missing the point...true, the concept and message of a movie does not have to be realistic (horror films, sci-fi are a case in point), but they have to be believable, and people should be able to relate with it....
for example, Superman Returns was not as well embraced by the audience, because they couldn't "feel" the movie...Man of Steel however was well received....and the avengers went on to garner way more than $1B dollars....
in the same vein, Eddie murphy's last 2 sci-fi films were woeful at the box office. Why? Not believable enough.
I'm very sure that you're one of the practitioners of this crappy industry called nollywood...even the name sounds like a nullification of hollywood and everything the make believe world stands for
Very few of you guys understand your trade...a lot of you ride on the wave of...it doesn't have to be realistic....yes, it doesn't have to be, but the trick of the trade is to make "eating shit" a believable exercise. Absolute nonsense! What is believable about a man flying? What is believable about an unarmed ban beating up hundreds of armed men? What is believable about someone growing a new arm immediately after the old one was cut off? |

pendo89: Because they are mostly watched and enjoyed by a delusional audience which forms a large % of the world's population and whose returns are sufficient to keep them under production year in and out. That is the point, Nollywood is doing really well and is watched all over Africa even in non English speaking countries, so they must be getting something right. |

I was watching another hollywood movie in one of the Mnet stations yesterday, (I don't bother with the movie names) a man who was portrayed as perfectly normal was lost in a forest with his son and daughter, on their way back they had to cross a fence made of barbed wires, so the man decided to check if it was electrified by placing his two hands on it. I mean, even if someone is foolish enough to test for electricity with his bare hands, why use his two hands instead of one? |

I have seen this a lot of times in Hollywood movies; a guy is shot on the chest, he falls on the ground gasping for breath, his partner partner runs to him and tries to hold him up while asking, ''are you okay''? ''are you okay''? What kind of useless question is that? |

^^@ Noni you are right, the guy plays like he is being forced to play for Liverpool, he walks around while others are running, he doesn't make any attempt at marking, Liverpool fans are beginning to hate him for his attitude on the pitch. Is it that they are owing him salary or what? Moses really needs to start getting more involved whenever he is on the pitch, at this rate he has no chance of getting a place back at Chelsea. There is nothing worse than earning the reputation of a lazy player in England, he needs to change fast! |

speedyboi: Hypocrisy! Shallow thinking! and more full this thread!
Of all things to criticize in the industry, this is what you think is important?
If you want to start criticizing delusional movies (leaving behind the fact that movies are not documentaries and not necessarily meant to be 'the real situation'), Hollywood movies and all other woods will come before Nollywood!
what will you say about; A. -A single criminal defeating a battalion of well trained soldiers like say na ice-cream dem dey drink for army their whole life. Is that the situation in real life? -In a movie like Olympus has fallen for instance; first part of the attack in white house, the Police or whoever were practically coming out of the building to be killed. I'm sure 'the grrreaat' american police force wouldn't be so dumb in real life, would they? , -Or in all action movies where lots of people could've taken the criminal at once, but they always prefer to go one by one... to be killed ofcourse - How realistic is that?
B. -And that sh/itty british movie titled slum dog millionaire where people in the slums can speak proper english. Is that the real situation in India? -OR another unrealistic part: the real slum little boys they used in the beginning spoke Hindi; then the India little actors (who were obviously from middle/high class family in real life) they used when the boys grew up (like 11years kinda) suddenly started to speak proper English without attending school! How real is that anywhere in the world? -OR the who wants to be a millionaire questions that were turning out as 'fate' BS. - please save me! And the cheap questions that were being asked sef: Infact, who wants to be a millionaire in Nigeria have asked the name of 3 musketeers as a first question before, but lo and behold, that was the ultimate question in the who wants to be a millionaire in our 'slumdog'. mtcheeeew...what A load of crap!
C. Or about anywhere apart from US, UK, Australia and likes being depicted as the worst place on earth in hollywood movies. No? Lemme tell you what a typical shallow minded person thinks about these countries due to 'HOLLYWOOD' - Russia / Russians - Terrorist Nation - Korea - Terrorist nation - Africa - Jungle with people and animals whining and dining together (even though me wey they live here have never seen a wild animal in my life sef). Other times, Africa is a desert with no houses. - And probably the first movie they will shoot in India, India is already being given the first impression of a slum! And another stereotype begins! And incase you haven't noticed, almost every bad guy in American movies always have foreign accents!
C. And 'about accents of people who arrive from abroad' that people always complain about...the fact is their accents are as shitty as the ones foreign actors speak in movies about other countries (despite the 'language coach' they get). There's no movie where actors are expected to speak like another country that the people of the country didn't complain about the accents. Even british people complain about Charlize Theron's accent in the movie 'Snow White and Huntsman). That's just how it is; unless you've lived somewhere for a while, you can never have their accent! If na to say few words, then the language coaching might be effective.
Conclusion: Delusional stuffs is not limited to Nollywood! Infact, it is mean't to happen! Why? Because it is a movie! There are are better things to discuss improvement on. It's good to point out things like this, but you need to know, it's not a reason to bash any industry! I have nothing more to add. May you continue to grow from strength to strength because of this post alone. |

Jigga_man101: [s]The point is sometimes I agree with them and sometimes I don't. When I disagree with them I don't get worked up. Most of the analyst are not giving Ghana any chance but guess what I don't care but I posted a few articles that gave Bosnia and Iran to go to the second round and every nigerian here is about ready kill me.
They say Ghana don't stand a chance I say that's why we play the game. If the analyst had any powers over results in the World Cup Ghana wouldn't have advance in 06 and 2010.
That's the difference between me and you and most Ghanaian and Nigerian fans [/s] Absolute nonsense! You are now shifting grounds after being found out eh? From the time that I have been on here I have been able to analyze difference between Nigeria fans and Ghanaian fans.
Nigeria fans don't believe in their team so they get worked up over what people think about their team. Why do u care about what analyst thinks of your team. Most of these analysts are not giving Ghana any chance, but Ghanaians are on here saying wait till 2014 and we will prove the world wrong just like we did in 06 and 2010. We don't care what other says about us. We care about results and at the end of the day we come out smiling. This is the most hypocritical post ever in the history of Nairaland. Right from the black stars thread, you are the one always quick to refer to your village analysts and pundits, always screaming that they get paid to talk sports so you worship their opinions. What then are you saying above? You don't care about what others say, yet you are the first to bring in their opinions (mostly village ones) into any debate. What you wrote should be the complete opposite, Nigerians don't care what other say, you on the other hand worships the opinion of any amateur writer you happen to see online. |

Jigga_man101: I also posted sites from espn and other sports website. Some say Nigeria will come out, some say Iran and some say Bosnia. The only constant is Argentina.
Iran, Bosnia and Nigeria are capable of beating each other. The analysis is right on spot. I wouldn't want to bet on any of these games because it can go either way. This is ESPN's prediction for Nigeria's group. Projected finish It looks like Argentina winning the group, Nigeria finishing second, Bosnia in third and Iran fourth. http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1640370?cc=3888 So where did you get your own ESPN prediction from? Post a link from just one recognised football website that is tipping Bosnia or Iran ahead of Nigeria and not your village websites. |

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/12/07/article-2519854-19EDC5CE00000578-552_308x185.jpg¤ Aderoju Bammeke helped Nigerian fraudsters evade bank safety mechanisms ¤ His girlfriend Jessica Ogunyemi helped him to launder proceeds of the scam ¤ It involved sending fake emails to customers of Barclays and Halifax banks ¤ It involved sending fake emails to customers of Barclays and Halifax banks A young British couple were part of a global internet banking scam which could have netted a phenomenal £19million after hacking the accounts of nearly 2,500 people. Aderoju Bammeke, 22, and his girlfriend Jessica Ogunyemi, 20, both of Manchester, were the UK 'platform' for a Nigerian 'phishing' scam that made £41,000 in just two months. The plot, masterminded by a gang in the West African country, involved sending fake emails to customers of banks including Barclays and Halifax. The emails told recipients that their accounts had been hacked and asked them to complete a form with their log-in details. But when victims obliged, Bammeke stepped in and helped the gang log in to steal money. Fashion marketing student Ogunyemi, his girlfriend at the time, helped him launder the proceeds by putting funds in accounts, hiding cash and allowing him to buy her a £2,400 Vauxhall Corsa. Bammeke has now been jailed for three-and-a-half years at Manchester Crown Court after admitting conspiracy to commit fraud and unauthorised computer use. Ogunyemi admitted five counts of money laundering and was given a suspended prison sentence.
Investigators found evidence of the scam on seven devices at Bammeke's home, which had accessed 181 accounts from his address. But Barclays found 2,439 customers had been affected and investigators say the true scale of the fraud will never be known. Bammeke admitted he had been involved in the scam for more than a year. He played a 'key role' as England's 'platform' for the scam, the court heard. He said if the gang had tried to log into accounts from Nigeria it would have triggered the banks' alarm systems. Simon Nichol, defending Bammeke, said he felt regret and remorse for his actions. He said his involvement - which began in an effort to tackle student debt - was 'sporadic' and although the scam was large scale with international dimensions, Bammeke's part was not. He added: 'They needed a platform in this jurisdiction 'They needed a platform in this jurisdiction and they needed someone to provide that platform. He allowed them to use his computer remotely. He expresses further regret that he got his girlfriend involved in this. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/12/07/article-0-19ED23B500000578-323_634x421.jpg ' Naive' : Fashion marketing student Ogunyemi, Bammeke's girlfriend at the time, helped him launder the proceeds by putting funds in accounts, hiding cash and allowing him to buy her a £2,400 Vauxhall Corsa
Michael Lavery, defending Ogunyemi, said she had brought shame on her family, including her train driver father and mother who works for Manchester council. He said she had been 'naive', was predicted to get a first in her degree and was no longer in a relationship with Bammeke. Bammeke had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to conspiracy to commit fraud and unauthorised computer use while Ogunyemi admitted five counts of money laundering. Sentencing Bammeke, Judge Recorder Gibson said: 'This in my opinion was a sophisticated fraud, a clever fraud and a fraud which could very easily have resulted in very much more substantial money being stolen.' He jailed Ogunyemi for a year, suspended for two years, and ordered her to complete 180 hours' unpaid work. After the hearing, Detective Superintendent Janet Hudson of TITAN, the North-West Regional Crime Unit, said: 'The actions of Bammeke and Ogunyemi caused a great deal of stress and uncertainty to many affected bank customers who had their accounts accessed. 'As a result of the investigation, no customers were left out of pocket and the offenders were arrested and ultimately sentenced. Internet banking is considered a safe and secure method of banking. 'However, bank customers need to remain vigilant and aware of the danger posed by fraudsters. Customers should only ever navigate directly to an nline bank website and should never click on any link sent to them through an email. 'Additionally when accessing bank accounts online customers should always be aware of the exact address in order to ensure that they are actually on a legitimate banking website.' www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2519854/Couple-took-Nigerian-gangs-internet-banking-plot-steal-19million-phishing-scam-jailed.html#ixzz2mnigEZOY |
