BusinessRe: CBN fines nine Banks N150m each for failing to dispense cash via ATMs by COMPAQ(m): 9:56pm On Jan 14, 2025
Nazgul:
I've been complaining about this nonsense since.

You'll go to a bank ATM only to discover that they're not dispensing cash, yet all the POS agents around the banks all have cash. Before Ecobank Ojuelegba was demolished, there was a time I went there their atm wasn't dispensing cash, Access bank which is close to them too didn't have cash. Yet all the POS operators within that vicinity had suplurs cash. You can even request for 100k and they'll give you.

Even the banks who would manage to give you cash wouldn't give you above 10k. If you want anything above 10k go to POS.

Yesterday I made a withdrawal of 10k from a POS operator, she charged me N300. Yes you heard me right N300 to collect 10k. She told me that it's because of the new charges CBN put on them for 10k deposits and above. So if I want 50k I'll pay 1,500? What kind of robbery is that?

I've been saying this that banks deliberately starve their ATMs of money because many of them sell cash to POS operators who in return sell to customers at abnormal rates. CBN should keep up the good work they're doing by slamming them with heavy fines.

We are our problem in this country.
Maybe na the POS come withdraw am finish na. Since they are sitting right there, them know when the ATM has cash and will withdraw it before you get there.

This HI project is about $2.5bln. Exxon's Owo offshore project will be about $10bln when it takes FID. Shell Offshore in Nigeria has the Bonga South West oil project of about $10bln and a giant gas field development of about $5bln both at advanced stages of feasibility and concept definition. There are others from ENI, Chevron, Shell Onshore etc. Add this to the $5.6bln from the 2 projects that have taken FID already. Do you still think I should be calming down?
Bonga South West is unfeasible, as is any green field oil project in Nigeria. Maybe the recent deep water incentives may have helped. But oil companies will do the economic analysis and go through the process again. Then they will present to their board to rank in the midst of other opportunities globally. And it may not fly. So don't get too excited. It's another 3 year recycle for any greenfield. Brownfield may fly easier , cos the capex will be a lot less.

It is expected.

As a special assistant, the very reforms you say the masses must endure are subsidised for you. Government pays for your fueling, your travels, grants you easy access to foreign currencies and other privileges that insulate you from the same policies you are justifying.

The questions I continue to ask are:

1. If fuel at N985 is seen as ok today, why did BAT condemn fuel at N145 in 2012 with subsidy removed?

https://dailytrust.com/flashback-how-tinubu-criticised-jonathan-over-petrol-subsidy-removal/

2. In his 2023 campaign, bat promised to bring down the price of pms which was around N175 at the time. So how come he and his supporters are arrogantly rejoicing that pms has 'come down' to N985?

https://punchng.com/video-of-tinubu-promising-fuel-price-reduction-resurfaces-online-amid-hike/

3. In 2014, bat said the foreign exchange rate of N217:$1 was too high and showed Government incompetence. So, why is he now saying that N1600:$1 is a good deal and a sign of progress?

4. In his 2023 campaign, bat promised to reduce the rate from N600:$1 to N300:$1... so why is N1600:$1 now being touted as an achievement?

https://medium.com/@FromLagosto/broken-promises-a-critical-review-of-bola-tinubus-campaign-promises-and-nigeria-s-current-reality-ce2917b7e684

Until bat explains these his somersaults, he will continue to be seen as a liar, deceiver, selfish and cunning man who prioritises his selfish interests over the good of the masses.
All that was politics, simple. Has Trump not said worse things to galvanize support from the masses for his election victory?

Politicians will say anything to get there.

xpressionx:
This is further testament that a cabal is holding the power industry.

Nigeria runs on average of 4500MW meanwhile some companies are generating 6500MW.

If Tinubu cannot fix power before 2027(not Fashola recommended 6months)he should not bother contesting again,he's a failure.
There is no cabal holding anything. The issue is that people like you refuse to pay the appropriate cost reflective price for electricity.

Why is there no cabal holding telecoms, where the pricing was cost reflective from the get go?

Why is cabal on petrol suddenly toothless, now that subsidy is gone?

Why has there never been a cabal on diesel for 20years that it was fully deregulated. Diesel has never been scarce for one day.

The companies providing captive power is both a good and a bad thing. Good for them as it guarantees reliable power for industry, but bad for the rest of us because without those big companies on the grid, the cost becomes more expensive for the rest of us. I hope you are familiar with the term 'economies of scale'. If not, google it.

kettykin:
The relocation wave is surging with intensity. Landmark Group has boldly uprooted and shifted its entire operations. One can only hope that the dominant Niger Delta-owned banks and oil giants will seize the moment, relocating their headquarters—or at least a significant part of their operations—to Port Harcourt. Failure to act now risks leaving the region vulnerable to the next toxic chapter of political neglect and economic marginalization as the proverbial cock crows its timely warning.

Due to numerous inquiries in the thread.PH was part an parcel of the Eastern region. PH was originally developed to evacuate coal from Enugu. PH was originally called Igweocha.

They are absolutely losing their minds over a business that coughs up N10 Billion per year in taxes relocating to PH . Imagine the chaos if bigger players like Access Bank, UBA, Zenith Bank, Seplat, Nextoil, or even the Zinox Group decide to pack up and leave too. Lagos is living on borrowed time, and the clock is ticking.

Word on the street is that even Dangote is fed up with Lagos’ endless drama. Rumor has it he’s planning to move his main HQ to Abuja and rent out his Lagos office once it’s finished. If that happens, expect BUA to follow suit, and Lagos will finally settle into the role everyone’s been envisioning: the economic hub of Yoruba land and little more.
Story. Good luck finding sufficient people in PH that can afford the facilities. We just think it's about siting stuff somewhere. We forget people have to be able to pay for stuff. Landmark PH won't survive on people just coming to look at the beach and buying bottled water. That's why they went into partnership with the state government. If he's confident in it's financial liability , he should go to alone.

Good news all over. We are witnessing unprecedented investment in the oil and gas sector. 2 significant Final Investment Decisions (FID) announced in 2024, this HI project has its FID imminent within the first half of 2025, several other significant FIDs lined up. We are looking at close to $20-30bln investments coming in.

Almost all pending onshore assests and share sales to indigenous companies deals have received ministerial consent, laying the foundation for tremendous growth in oil and gas production, controlled mostly by indigenous companies. Future is really bright.

I encourage hasty completion of Ajaokuta Steel revamp and other such steel revamps around the country to take advantage of the steel requirement for these huge projects. Fabrication yards, construction and assembly yards are required to domesticate much of these project spend.
Oga calm down! Where are you seeing $20b to $30bl from?

PoliticsRe: PETROAN: We Requested ₦100 Billion From FG To Make Petroleum Products Affordable by COMPAQ(m): 8:36am On Jan 07, 2025
AmazingGenius:
The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has justified its earlier request that the Federal Government authorize a N100 billion intervention fund to help stabilize the petroleum products market and make them more accessible to Nigerians.

Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, President of the association, spoke on Arise TV’s This Morning Show on Monday about the urgent need for financial intervention to offset the high cost of business operations in the sector.

“The request for N100 billion intervention was requested because it is going to cushion the cost of money in our business. And that will make a long way to make petroleum products available and affordable to Nigerians.”

He further elaborated on the source of the proposed funds, emphasizing that the intervention could be integrated into the federal budget.

“Every year, there’s a budget, and this N100 billion is just a small fraction of it. It’s going to significantly ease our operations, especially considering that the current cost of money is between 36 and 40 percent,” he stated.

The PETROAN president stressed that the high cost of financing has placed immense pressure on petroleum product retailers, which directly impacts the prices that consumers face at the pump. The intervention fund, he argued, would provide the necessary financial relief to ensure a steady supply of petroleum products at reduced prices.

Dr. Gillis-Harry also appealed to the federal government to prioritize the request, emphasizing its potential benefits for the broader economy. “We hope the federal government will take this very seriously. It’s going to help ensure that Nigerians can access petroleum products at a much more affordable price,” he urged.

Back story

Over the weekend, the group, in a statement signed by its president urged President Bola Tinubu to approve N100 billion grant to marketers to help with job losses caused by the removal of petrol subsidy.

The statement read, in part, “PETROAN request for a grant of N100 billion from President Bola Tinubu to help prevent the closure of 10,000 marketers’ businesses.”

“The request is in response to the threat of job losses that would result from the removal of the fuel subsidy.”

• PETROAN said the recommendations will consolidate gains in the downstream sector.

• According to the association, despite the challenges experienced last year, the sector is poised for continued growth and development.

“2024 was a significant year for Nigeria’s oil and gas downstream sector, marked by deregulation, infrastructure investments, and growth in the LPG market,” PETROAN said.

N100bln for what exactly? How does it help you keep products flowing? Which job losses is he talking about? What issue is there with the market if Dangote is fully supplying the market? Who said the product is not available and affordable. They should change their business model to storing products for Dangote instead of storing imported products.

In Nigeria if you no get mind, useless associations will ask for stupid things and politicians who are backing them will be supporting the nonsense request.

I doubt this postulations because this will defeat one of the reasons Tinubu adduced for removal of subsidy. In our fuel price is way below international price then smuggling across our bothers by our neighbours continues. We are probably not supplying Nigeria alone but other West African counties.
If our petrol is being produced privately by Dangote, and his price delivers him profit, then taking petrol to neighbouring countries doesn't really concern government. It's not really smuggling, but exporting and is helping Dangote meet the capacity of his refinery and create economies of scale.

Smuggling was only an issue before because government money was inside by way of subsidy.
