it's the best stat that analyses a player's creativity. assist is totally dependent on another player. welbeck missed a goalscoring opportunity on his arsenal debut - the passer gets no assist but he gets a key pass for his hardwork.

assist is a shyte statistic - it depends on the recipient to score no matter how good the pass is. if the recipient doesn't score, no assist is recorded - this is why created chances is much more a truer individual stats than assists.

any player can score a goal on the pitch. there's no contradiction here.
RVP is a finisher, he waits for the service. it's not possible for him to touch the ball more than rooney who goes searching for the ball in low pressure zones where opponents are not interested in marking. RVP cannot dwell one second on the ball where he's stationed as he's in a high pressure zone. in spite of that, he still boasts a better passing accuracy than rooney who drops deep beyond the centre circle to start playing useless hollywood passes to the flanks like scholes.

so why is rooney in the team? number of touches mean squat when rooney plays majority of those passes backwards anyways. it's not about how many times the ball is touched, it's about what you do with the ball. even with the frequency of rooney's touches, he loses the ball more than the others. so what's the point?
