And having someone else help with the driving won't reduce the stress?!!
sisi, those hours are too long to make any significant difference. the op would sleep, wake up and they would still be stuck in traffic! some people abandon their cars, hop on okada and tell their driver to meet them at home.
I'm not sure I understand what the debate is about anymore.

OP finds driving to the Island from Festac everyday very stressful, she is looking for someone(s) who makes the same trip to relieve the stress, share the cost and reduce the wear & tear on her car.

The REDUCE THE STRESS OF DRIVING automatically say non-drivers need not apply. If she wanted a companion in the car while she does all the driving, I bet there are talking dolls she can buy.

'Sides, I don't think the requirements for carpooling are set in stone, the brains behind the idea understand people are different with different needs and stress threshold. . .so while the I do all the driving and you sit there doing nothing but sharing my stress through osmosis route might work for some, it doesn't necessarily mean it will work for all.
and i am saying the reduction of stress is a moot point provided both of them are in the car. the primary motivation is the cost of fuel and the other maintenance of the car. who does not get tired in the car after a long ride? both the driver and his passengers all get spent. i dunno about others - but whether i drive or i don't drive, the fatigue level is the same for me. being held down in one position(sitting) for long hours would heighten fatigue for anyone.

Ujujoan: And you have shown the 'great sense' you have by insinuation a driver and a passenger are going through the SAME stress level . . . shocked shocked
Can the 'heightened' stress level of the passenger be compared to the actual riled-up-by-driving-through-the-crazy-Lagos-traffic stress level of the actual driver huh
Honestly, I never knew they still come this slow! undecided
it's the same, you bellend!
the primary reason people carpool is because of the cost of maintenance - not cos of fatigue. which yeye fatigue? why do plane passengers get wasted after a long flight? na una pilot the plane or what the heck are you guys on about?

Ujujoan: He's not 'using a computer' . . . he controlling the steering through a packed traffic, holding breaks, changing gears and sweating in the heat through it all (assuming there's no AC).
My 10 month old understands that! undecided
not everyone drives am oil-tanker to work, madam ujujoan!
all he requires is mental alertness. he's not doing anything over physical. the steering is powered. the gear stays automatic.
sweating in the heat applies to every passenger in the car as well. you are not making any sense abeg.

Are carpoolers supposed to take turns driving?

They can, but it’s not a requirement. In fact, a carpool may include people who will not drive at all. In these cases the “riders” should plan to pay the driver an agreed-upon amount to help out with driving costs. (See below for tips on determining a fair cost for non-drivers.)
If a carpool does switch drivers, this can be done on a daily basis, a weekly basis or longer, depending on the carpoolers’ preferences. This may change over time as new people join the carpool.

Ujujoan: and your point . . . . huh undecided
my point is - staying in a car for long hours is the reason people are tired, nothing to do with who actually drives.
whether you drive or not, provided you are in the car - your fatigue levels would heighten. this is common sense and a bit of biology. you have shown you have none of these.
So the person sitting in the passengers seat, filing their nails or reading the latest John Grisham thriller goes through the same stress as the person doing all the pressing on the breaks, shifting the gears, doing the turning and steering of the wheels and the glancing back and forth, left and right, being alert at all times?

I see.
very well!
in a long ride, she's the one having nothing to do, she's the one bored, she's going to get tired even more than the dude who has something to do.
stand for 3 hrs without doing anything and let another person stand using his computer or tablet. let us know who would get tired first.

Won't it be easier...less tiring if two people (4hrs each) did the driving than one person driving the entire 8hrs?

Re: Gas - If A drives her car this week and B drives hers next week. . .won't it also save gas and decrease the wear and tear on the cars?
it won't be less tiring as long as the A and B are in the car.
why are people acting like they don't know the stress of driving in lagos? whether i drive or not, i feel wasted in those lagos traffic. the stress levels are the same. sometimes, the passengers even get more wasted than the driver.
[b]Carpooling Benefits

The benefits of carpooling are many, but some that are most often reported include:

Savings — in some cases dramatic — on commute costs

Less wear and tear on your vehicle

Less stressful commute/less driving

Reducing traffic congestion and fuel consumption

Helping to keep the air clean

Unexpected benefits like making new friends and keeping more consistent work hours
in other words, people who don't have cars or people who don't drive do not carpool? seriously?

Ujujoan: Please help me explain it to that reaaaaly slooooooooow coogar!
hehehehehe - i trust you to hide behind your power-mike but she's not making any sense. carpooling has less to do with fatigue. it's the cost of maintaining the car that is the most important feature.

please provide the evidence....don't just throw conjectures at me and expect me to swallow it.

If the Premier league was broadcats in portuguese, whic few speak outside England no one will watch it. England was once the greatest power the world has ever known. The heritage has been mosty of the world speak their language and folow their culture. We all here of Tom hanks, Leonardo De caprio, Julia Roberts - Thye are great actors. But there might be German actors who are better than them. Most people don't know that because most people outside Germany don't speak german.
so english is the lingua franca in asia? blimey!!!!
why do people make silly excuses just to forge their lame points home. language has nothing to do with it. football is a universal language. people don't care what language is spoken. people just want to watch football. asia has about 2 billion football viewers, how many of them understand english?

Football will not be football without the commentary and build up. That is done in a language. The world's lingua franca is English. Only the more discerning and more intelligent can in such a culture actually note that what makes the loudest noise might not be the best. Clearly like many people on this website you don't fall into that category
you are talking crap as usual.
the lingua franca in the world is english and french - so why is the french league not popular? why is the spanish league not popular even in south america where all but brazil speak spanish? your propensity to stretch the borders of daftness is exemplary. the english league attracts more viewers, generates more revenue, has better packaging and it's corruption-free. those attributes are the reasons the premier league is the numero uno league in the world. until there are about 6-9 clubs like barcelona/real madrid in spain, they don't even come close. 2 excellent teams in a league of 20 teams do not show quality.

it seems you suffer from an eye defect. how can you blame de gea for the goal we conceded when he made about 4 saves that kept us in it till the calamity of rafael/valencia? he can only punch that ball considering the circumstances. if he punched it to corner and we conceded from it, herbs like you would still blame him for doing so.

Soon we'll be hearing the same old repetitive lines : He's only 22 and an excellent shot-stopper.
While he did make some crucial saves, there's no point making them when you're going to concede a dodgy goal in the last minute of stoppage time.

Afam4eva: So, how come these teams in spain that have been left with crumbs keep beating their premiership counterparts. Dude, we're not talking about money here but about quality. The quality that's in Athletico madrid is comparable if not better than those in the top 4 clubs in England. A player from Athletico made the FIFA 11 but no premiership player made the list. What does that tell you?
tell us which teams in spain with crumbs who have won the champions league or their league title? are you shyting me? chelsea that finished 6th last season in the premier league beat barcelona even with a man down and later went on to win the champions league. stop citing isolated cases here cos we all know upsets do happen in football. we are looking at it from a huge sample size. la liga have only produced 2 champions league winners in barcelona/real madrid. the premier league have produced 5 clubs as winners. that tells me the premier league is more competitive and have more quality across the board than the spanish league. you cannot separate money from modern football. without money, barcelona would not be able to afford the wages of messi, xavi, iniesta, villa and sanchez. they would have left la liga to somewhere else where their talents would be duly rewarded with huge funds.
Tell me why the English national team has been unable to do well @ major since they won the world cup decades ago? If you claim no spaniard won or have come close to winning the golden boot, check Torres' first season with Liverpool. Valencia has been in the UCL final, so you can't blame them for not winning it, & check the number of foreigners that were in the squad of any English club that wins the UCL & compare it to when a Spanish team wins it. EPL's popular no doubt, business & sponsorship deals does a whole lot. Is it a coincedence that Chelsea won their 1st UCL when they added a bit of Spanish flair to their game (Mata & Torres), or why do you think Swansea is getting applauds for their style of play?
the english national team have their own internal problems......
it has nothing to do with the quality of their league. how many french players in the national team play in france? how many brazilian players in their national team play in brazil? what about portugal? abeg, all those parameters mean shyte. players would always be attracted to the leagues where they would be rewarded measurably with their talents. the reason there's top quality players in real madrid and barcelona is because of the tv revenue they get. £140m in comparison to £50m-£70m that the top clubs in premier league get!

torres was the 3rd highest goal scorer in his debut season in england.
he was beaten to it by ronaldo and adebayor. la liga imports have never done anything fantastic in this league. premier league exports have destroyed la liga times without number. forlan, ruud, ronaldo have all clinched the pichichi in spain. the man utd team that won the champions league in 07/08 had these english players in the starting line up. wes brown, rio ferdinand, owen hargreaves, paul scholes, michael carrick and wayne rooney. that's 6 players out of 11. that is not enough??

Afam4eva: The quality of a league is determined on factors which range from how the players, clubs and coaches are doing when compared to those in other leagues. Judging from these criterion, it's obvious that the La Liga is miles ahead of the premiership. The best players are there. The best clubs are there. The best coaches are there. Did you see the FIFA 11 that was released recently? That paints the picture.
you should really stop frequenting this section cos you are embarrassing yourself with these lame points. did you not see the graphical image i posted above? of course, the 2 big clubs have the best players because they have been given a free rein by the spanish football federation to sell their games independently. in england, the money the big teams make is distributed fairly to help the small teams grow. fifa 11 is nonsense - most of the players on that list were missing from the champions league final in munich.....fifa 11 my foot!

la liga is a 2-team league and 2 clubs don't make a league - you have to look at the quality of the 20 teams across the board. why is it that no other team apart from barcelona and real madrid have won the champions league in spain? england can boast of man utd, liverpool, chelsea, aston villa and nottingham forest as winners. if united have the same freedom as barcelona to sell their games independently, they would be able to afford better players and compete. united have more fans than barcelona and madrid put together so your comments about having the best players are very lame!
Next season the team finishes last or 20th would rake in more £60m from TV companies thats before we add merchandise, Jersey sells, naming right sponsorship etc
the marketing strategy in england is top drawer
the premier league has struck several deals with airlines and eurostar to show live epl games on board in airplanes. the deal is super-massive. relegated teams in the epl would make more money than the winners of champions league - now, that's wow!!!

Afam4eva: This is all about business. There's a difference between been more business savvy and having the best league.
so what makes a league quality across the board? please list the criteria and why you think la liga is better than the premier league?
Your right and next years TV right is going to go from £3bn to over £5bn, because Barcelona and Madrid are allowed negotiate their own TV rights puts a strain on the rest of the league in spain and with the new tax law coming in Spain, you would see top stars fleeing the Spanish clubs
barcelona and real madrid have killed la liga. they should never have allowed them to independently broadcast their own games. it has created a wide gulf between those 2 giants and the rest of the clubs in the league. this is why those 2 teams continue to dominate and the rest are feeding on crumbs!

you know la liga is a shyte league when blackpool(relegated team in england) made more money from tv than the 3rd best team in la liga. this is why i tell la liga fans that if barcelona/real madrid come to the premier league, they would not win the league as they would not have the advantage of selling their games on tv independently. less money means they wouldn't be able to afford the wages of messi, villa, sanchez, etc.

stop arguing like a football illiterate....,
the premier league rakes in more money from overseas than any other league in the world. la liga is trying to model their tv broadcast like the premier league - this is why some la liga matches now show in the afternoon so that asian fans can tune in. la liga is miles below the premier league in terms of global viewership unless you have been living under a rock. by the time el classico is on 9pm(UK time), the asians are fast asleep!!!!

thegoodjoehunt:
Apart from your list here, you can see that you can't pick an average team in the EPL embarrassing a La Liga top side. Let us be factual here. At the moment the possessive project of the La Liga and Bundesliga is producing results. I am not saying the direct football strategy can't bring results but the possessive pattern is far superior.
i cannot count the number of times arsenal mopped the floor with villareal or liverpool beating barcelona(even at nou camp). arsenal eliminated real madrid in 2006. arsenal and liverpool are average sides in the premier league - when was the last time they won the english league, huh?

Can't you see the way Spain is dominating Europe and the World. Their players(La Liga) are making the EPL look better (Aguero, Silva, Mata, Carzola, Michu etc). The way Guardiola won 6 trophies in one year is unimaginable. So Platini was the one that made Barcelona beat Man Utd in two Champions League final. Let us be fair with our point.
their players are not making the league look better - van persie, suarez, etc are making the english league look better. no spaniard has won the golden boot in the premier league or even come close to winning the pfa player award. let's tread carefully when we hype the spanish players - they play intricate football that suits their league - that style of play would not necessarily work in england and this is why barcelona always find it difficult to beat chelsea......:

thegoodjoehunt: The Panish league isn't boring. A lot of people are used to watching the EPL style of play and find the true art of good possesive football boring. I will watch Athletico Madrid play Valencia or Real Sociedad play Getafe or Malaga play Osasuna.

Than watching Stoke City play West Ham.

Remember the Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and German fans complain about the lack of gifted players in the EPL.

The EPL is exciting to watch but not fantastic. That is why many were shocked when Athletico Madrid humiliated Chelsea or Athletico Bilbao embarrassing Man Utd. =
but many were not shocked when arsenal demolished real madrid in 2006, when tottenham eliminated ac milan or when chelsea murdered bayern munich in the last edition of champions league final.

beauty is in the eyes of the beholder - you prefer tiki-taka, some other people prefer the direct football. you prefer swashbuckling attacking football but some fans want to see a well organised defensive football. so let's use the popularity vote(democracy) to settle this....

if the premier league is so shyte - why does it have more fans watching it in the whole wide world than any other league? some league games in the premier league have had 1 billion viewers watching it live - are you aware of that?

the premier league reign supreme over the others - it's not even debatable!

That's just the reality.I have only watched one Yoruba movie in mylife and that is Jenifa,3 years after it came out.

Once in a while phase; and from what age range is this 'phase' and how long is it gonna take o mr cooger? So i will brace myself too.
it can happen anytime.......so brace yourself and be prepared for it!

babyosisi: Thank you O
Thank you
Olu Jacobs has acted more Igwe parts than any other actor yet he is not Igbo
All these people talking rubbish

Stella Damasus is Delta igbo sha
I read somewhere her fathers real last name is Ojukwu
They changed it during the war to save their lives I read
see these clowns comparing olu iacobs to upstarts like eniola badmus or femi brainard. olu jacobs fathered the entire nigerian movie scene - this dude actually went to a drama school abroad - never compare him to the ones forced to the industry because of the nigerian austerity or mass unemployment. it's a privilege to the igbo marketers to have olu jacobs as "igwe" - his pedigree is unparalleled in the whole of nigeria.....
Watching Nigeria play Burkina Faso left me wondering especially in the second half what happened to our edge cutting dribbling and cross diagonal football huh Anyone who thinks the EPL kind of football is not affecting not just Nigeria players but most Africa teams is deluding His/her self.
the op is talking rubbish and i am amazed you are kowtowing his rubbish! the premier league has actually improved the way we watch football and this is why you can even find flaws in the way the super eagles played. there's nothing ugly in direct football - why take 50 touches when 5 can do?

you are berating english football and yet there's hardly any champions league final an english club did not feature in the last 8 yrs - the last edition of the competition was won by an english team - which makes me wonder? are you talking sense or the op is spewing drivel? one thing is for sure - the 2 of you must be high on khat!

CNN80: I'm looking for someone based in Festac who is interested in carpooling with me. You need to be working in or around Victoria Island. I leave the house at about 5:30 am and leave the office between 5 and 6 pm.
I'm just looking for ways to reduce the stress of driving and also the cost of fuel.
can carpooling work in nigeria with the general disgusting attitude of most drivers? let me ask you this question - if your passenger sleeps all through the return trip till he gets home - would you feel offended?

desirel: i don't understand all; please translate.
he was in something relating to money; his uncle introduce him, but after he return to Christ, repented and stopped. he told me that from all his friends/ work mates that join the cult he is the only alive, because of Christ. that time, 20years ago they were all working for his uncle company. he never told me what exactly they were doing in that cult.
there's nothing to it - stop worrying
the man is just taking his time - how old is he and what does he do for a living? does he spend long hours at work? does he travel long hours? sometimes, i wanna be alone too and just be in my own zone without disturbance. every man goes through that phase once in a while. communicate with your husband - let him tell you what he's going through and the solution won't be far from that. the cult angle is bollocks - there's no cult anywhere, just some misguided fools using some weird excuses to kill other people.

Ibime: Na you be the big mumu. Since when did catching opposition offside on halfway line become the defensive tactics to employ in the final minute of injury time whilst defending a 1-0 lead.
how has defending deep helped teams? do you invite pressure on to yourself or you use "attack is the best form of defence"? how did man utd's super defending help them against spurs on sunday? look at the bottom teams who pack their defence to ward off big teams - dont they still concede with pressure after pressure?

You went from excusing such poor defending by claiming it was a corner kick. Obviously it is horrendous defending otherwise you wouldn't be thinking of corner kick.
5 players goalside of Mikels midfield in 94th minute with 40 yards of space to run into. MOPOL MIDFIELDER!
of course, it's horrendous defending - that was why we conceded, duh!
however, looking at that wide gap between the defence and mikel suggested that the defenders were sitting far too deep. the team wasn't compact enough. yobo of all people should be moving upfield the moment the ball was cleared. any clearing header from the opponent back into our half of the field should be catching the opponents offside. if you leave gaps between the defence and the midfield then you leave room for opponents to cause damage. with mikel and 4 nigerian players out of the picture, the fault lies with the defence - they should have moved upfield!
