The game wasn't that bad, our aged and slow defence wouldn't have been able to cope with spurs pace upfront if we had gone all out to attack(remember the 1st leg),thus the formation we saw today,basically to contain spurs in the middle, and they did that well. Chicharito would not fit in to that kind of formation.

the best way to defend is to attack.....
if we had given tottenham something to worry about, they wouldn't even bother with attacking us at all. fergie messed up - he gave tottenham too much respect. their biggest threat(bale) was in rafael's pocket all night. lennon was the only other danger and evra had no cover to effectively curb lennon.

with a bit of more common sense from fergie, we would have scored 2-3 goals before tottenham decided to wake up and go for it. it's baffling we had rooney, hernandez, chicharito, anderson and nani on the bench when the game kicked off. that to me is idiotic. why not stick with what had worked for us in the previous away games - why go 4-3-3 against spurs of all teams?

fergie's selection and daft substitution cost us the game. the match stats is there for us to see. tottenham had twice as many goal attempts and we had a bench of rooney, hernandez, anderson, etc on the bench. we did nothing in the 2nd half - we just defended like a bottom side when we should be dominating spurs and let them worry about conceding! this is the first time in about 13 years we have failed to win at least one league game against tottenham. fergie takes the blame for me!

chelsea play in such a way that torres needs to come deep and get involved with the play unlike demba ba who has not assisted any goal this season in 22 games. the number of touches per shot is the result of the indirect football chelsea play. having 3 number-10s(MAZACAR) behind a top striker is not ideal. they clog up the middle thus forcing torres wide most times. torres has made more crosses than any striker in europe this season - why is torres making a cross? shouldn't he be finishing off crosses?

you were talking dross then.....fewer shots per goal means ba was a more direct striker in newcastle than what torres was at chelsea. compare the number of key passes torres has made to ba and you would get the point!

look at the ba/torres comparison stats up there - torres has a better conversion rate than ba and yet ba has outscored him. what does that tell you? ba's former team creates more chances than chelsea.
