Just a question:Let's assume we beat City (if we get there and are drawn with them) and lose the final to one bad refereeing call like Saturday's,would you feel satisfied?

The main essence of the Carling Cup used to be to blood youngsters that we intend using for the major competitions in the future.By that I'm refering to the CL and EPL.At least for United's point of view.

In 1994,Fergie's Fledglings were first used in the Carling Cup tie at Port Vale.Just an example.United didn't go far that year in the CC,but we all know how it panned out with those youngsters later on in future.
I still don''t think heaven should fall if we fail to beat Crystal Palace.We've lost to Southend United and Coventry City in early CC rounds.If we come this far and verify that we can have a few youngsters to inject into the United first team without winning the Cup,I don't think it would be a disappointment especially since we know United is a club that wants to make sure that future is secured by unearthing talents.

Besides,the CC is third-rate at best.It was only recently that winners of the competition had automatic berths into Europe.
Trophy-droughted teams like Arsenal will feel a sense of victory if they picked up the CC.But United have bigger fish to fry:defend the EPL and try to win the CL.I would think that would dwarf winning the CC.

I think the perfect setting to seek vengeance on City will be in the League proper.Go to Etihad and beat them on our way to the title. . .wouldn't you feel more fulfilled if that happened as against the Carling cup?
