TheGoodJoe:What I am against is the hypocrisy. If people are willing to condemn Rohr for being tactically inept, why do they turn shy when Eguavoen does the same thing? Eguavoen looked lost that day. He was bereft of ideas. I understand where you're coming from. We both want the same thing: Good team play with long term results. But we need to be practical here. It's easy for the Spainish national team to play highly possessive football because that is how most of their players play in their respective clubs. La liga teams are known for this. It's easy for the German National team to play their highly attacking football with gen gen pressing because that is how most of their players play in their respective clubs. Bundesliga teams are known for this. Now tell me, what is the NPFL known for? How do teams in the NPFL play? We keep talking about identity, identity, identity, but this so called identity cannot even be reflected in our very own league. No be kick and follow them dey play for there? If you want the Super Eagles to play highly progressive, highly attacking possessive football, you need the right set of players. You need players plying their trade in teams that support this same philosophy. You need players in Barcelona, Manchester City, Real Betis, Atalanta etc. How many of our players play in such clubs? It is difficult for players to do one thing in their clubs and to be asked to do another thing in the National team. Talking about coaching philosophies, take Xavi for example. Leaving Xavi at the helm of affairs is more understandable because we've not only seen the intent to reacquaint the players with the club's age old philosophy, we also know that he'll be given the free hand to buy his desired players. Eguavoen won't have that luxury being that he's a national team coach. You simply make use of the players you have. Players who are bound to find contrasting philosophies difficult to imbibe. |
charlesemeka85:. Lol, bro I'm a big fan of tiki taka. I remember making a post early this year about how West African teams need to become more technical in our style of play so that we can at least catch up to the North Africans not just in style of play but also football development in general, but I also said that we need the right players to make this happen. It's easier for a fragile player to become more physical than it is for a very physical player to become more technical. Quote me anywhere. We did not win those three matches because we were technical, we won them because we were more aggressive than the other teams. The moment we lost that aggression and decided to relax, we lost when it mattered the most. That loss still dey pain me walai. We have very few technical players in our squad. Cup competitions are more about results than style of play. |
Odunayaw:Funny thing is you thinking you wrote something profound and intelligent but you couldn't even see past your own hypocrisy. It's even more hilarious that you thought you could actually insult me by calling me something I'm not. Did you feel good about yourself before clicking that 'submit' button? I'm sure you did That's by the way You keep talking about 'we' 'we' 'we'. Who is this 'we' you're talking about? You said 'this is why we won't take you serious'. I wonder when this beloved thread turned into a cult that whoever disagrees with public opinion, gets ostracized. Is that what you're implying? Cos it sure sounds like it. I've been an ardent follower of this thread for seven years now but I only comment when it's absolutely necessary. If you've been on this thread long enough you would have realised that I'm not one to follow the band wagon mentality. Or maybe I'm overrating your cognitive and observative abilities. Do the number of likes you get make you feel validated? I'm sure they do. Do have a nice day.

Joezinho:Why are you still arguing with these people? It's obvious they have a strong bias for local coaches(competent or incompetent) and will support them in whatever they do. They are guilty of the very same thing they accuse other people of. If it was Rohr who lost against that depleted Tunisian side, would they have made the same excuse they're currently making for Eguavoen? Tunisia is a top team all of a sudden. The same Tunisia we beat at the last AFCON and it was their first eleven. I hated Rohr's tactics. I totally despised them, so much so I stopped watching a lot of our matches but the man gave us results when they mattered the most. Results are the most important thing in cup competitions. This is why I wanted him sacked AFTER the AFCON and not before, especially if he didn't win it. That way we would have a much better excuse to get rid of him. |
Stormtrooper11:Lol In the first pic, he was like 'You dey craze?, Who you be sef?.' In the second pic : Ahn Ahn Bros, no need getting this close, na play I dey play with you nah. No vex abeg. No vex It reminds me of when Henderson stepped up to Diego Costa after Costa tried to show his usual self. Costa had to back off when he saw the rage in Henderson's eyes. |
Arteta obviously has low self esteem. Aubameyang should have left that shithole of a club a long time ago. Now look at the disrespect. |
Stormtrooper11:Prime Azpilicueta go beat Osimhen oo BTW, why did Osimhen back off in the second pic? ![]() |
darkelf:I had intentions of replying some of them but later decided that it's of no use. Whiteknights will be Whiteknights. Hopefully none of them gets to be on the bad end of something as terrible as a false rape accusation because not only will it teach them to wait for verifiable evidence and a reputable Court's judgement before they go about judging people, it'll also show them what it feels like to be abandoned by everyone they love, everyone they know, just because a woman said so ![]() |

TheGidRedpiller:The mothers are not trying to protect their sons. They're only trying to protect their investment. They feel threatened by the potentials they see in their sons' wives; the potentials to turn their sons' attention and therefore resources away from them. This is also true if the son ends up dying i.e No more resources for them. |

The same feminists who called him patriarchal and misogynistic are the same people going on their knees to greet him .I just love this man. He commands so much respect. |
What kind of stupid headline is this? Is Nigeria not their country? Are they not Nigerians anymore? Are you more Nigerian than them just because they made a mistake? Nonsense |

It's moments like these that validate Mourinho. It's moments like these that make him look like a world class coach even if he's probably not. Manchester United got rid of him because of style of play, even after winning the UEL. Where are they now? If you want to play sweet attacking football, you need the right set of players. Let me tell you something; The Super Eagles did not win those three matches because of any tactics. No, they won because Nigerians underrated them. Check the history, we perform best when our people doubt us. That way the players feel like they have something to prove. Prior AFCON 2019, Ighalo said something during an interview. He said he loves it when people doubt him because it serves as some sort of motivation to prove them wrong. He went on to become the highest goal scorer in that tournament. But once the praises start coming in, we press the self delete button. Our major problem is that evil spirit of over confidence that has plagued almost every Nigerian team I know of. I hope we've learnt our lesson. Fvckk who you think you are. Fvckk your sense of entitlement. Put your pride in the trash bin and play football. Football is a game of 11 men against 11 men. African teams no dey look face again. Everywhere is dry. Boys need to make a name for themselves. If you slip up, the hyenas will takeover. Who am I kidding? We are not gonna learn shhiiit. We'll probably end up making the same mistakes again. I'm done with my rant. *drops mic* ![]()

Skepticus:I'm doing great bro. Been on ghost mode for some time now. The shadows can be quite comforting. They give me a bigger picture of things. Thanks for checking up, man. |
mostob:He has a point oo. He has A VERY BIG POINT. It's up to you to decide if you want to see it or not. Rohr was not a bad coach. Yes his football was drab and uninspiring but in the grand scheme of things he got us results. He was no where near a failure. How many Nigerians expected us to qualify the way we did against Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia? How many Nigerians expected us to do well at the 2019 AFCON considering our absence from the previous editions? He still took us to third place At the World Cup,we lost 2:0 to a Croatia who ended up being World Cup finalists and 2:1 to an Argentina who needed a World Class French team to eliminate them. France also made it to the final. Some had issues with how he always downplayed his players' capabilities. They called it a defeatist mindset. Shebi we've seen the one with Lion and Wolf mindset. Where did we end up? Round of 16 If you try to make a case for Eguavoen using Maduka's error, a case could also be made for Rohr using Akpeyi's error in the dying minutes. I was in support of Rohr's sack but I wanted us to wait till after the AFCON. You don't sack a coach few weeks to a major tournament. The results would most likely be damning. We just experienced it. We can placate ourselves all we want but that's the harsh truth. We should have waited till after the AFCON to sack him. I would have even preferred us to sack him after that 2018 World Cup but we didn't. Wohh, I'm so emotionally distraught right now. I'm off to the gym. I need somewhere to pour out all this anger in me. Una goodnight.

Mockery from my contacts left right and centre. Work is not going to be easy tomorrow ![]() |
They said we don't need Victor Moses, that all our wingers are better than him. Some say he's proud and lacks commitment. They said we don't need Odion Ighalo, that all our strikers are better than him. That he's old and should have never come out of retirement. Some said we don't need Dessers, that he's a broiler and not suited for African football. Someone on Twitter told Dennis that Ekong would come back with the winners medal and he would have none. Some even celebrated his recent shortcomings. Nigerians, I hail una. Let us enjoy our defeat. |
safarigirl:The second paragraph of that post will solve your misunderstanding. I used the first paragraph as a form of illustration. Intense, productive wing play is what we're known for. Cage our wingers and we're destroyed. |
Meliforme:Well it's obvious the hype got to their heads except you want to say they played according to Eguavoen's instructions. |
Results are the most important thing in football. As much as I love Tiki taka football, if such good football play doesn't result in goals, it does more harm than good. Johan Cruyff said it, Guardiola said it, Xavi said it. We rely so much on our wing play and that cost us today. Give me results gaddammit ![]() |
The only difference between Eguavoen and Rohr today was the introduction of more substitutes. No tactical input whatsoever. He looked lost and dejected. His countenance alone would have depressed the players. You can only know how good a coach is when he's under pressure. |
About to go on my rants. This pain no be here |
Nostradamus1:Enjoy the disgrace of a Round of 16 exit then. Thank God almost all of us here are Nigerians. We'll enjoy the shame together. |
I hate bashing our players but this loss dey pain me walai |
Lethargic football - Bronze Sweet Football- Round of 16 exit Make your pick Let me see any body hype any of these players again. |

Iheanacho has been the only one trying to create something. I'd say leave him till the 65th minute |
