They only need to sight it when you go for capturing.

When I did mine, they asked for it, showed them,got captured and left with my old Passport.
I have the old and new one with me.

Thank you. The problem is I don't want to submit my Nigerian passport to the embassy and be stuck without it. There are numerous example on the Nigerian embassy thread on why this is just a bad idea because you don't have the new passport and your old one is stuck with the embassy. I think I'll rather wait until things clear up in Ottawa or just renew my passport while in Nigeria.

You do not have to drop your passport after applying. But when you new passport is ready, you would have to mail the old one to them before collecting the new one. I also didn't drop my passport. I just captured.

The wider problem is that the Nigerian embassy in Ottawa is running a passport black market, though many people are not aware of this. I have this on good authority. When the new passports come in, the corrupt handlers sell to the highest bidder at prices varying from 500-1000CAD, but you have to know some of their corrupt heads there to get on that list. This means there are less passports to go around for those on the real queue who have only paid 50CAD. It's sad, but the corruption taking place in that god-forsaken embassy is on a different level. This means they have vested interest in not seeing to the end of the booklet scarcity.

Speaking of passport, does anyone know what the heck is going on. I recently checked the Nigerian embassy website to check the renewal process as my passport in expiring later this year. What started as an exploratory exercise quickly turned into a depressing adventure as there are people who went for biometric capture in February/March still waiting for their passport and the constant retort from the embassy official that there are no booklets. It's a woeful tale of lamentations and it's scary.

Also, the ambassador promised back in February that the 10-year validity passport will rolled out soon and there is no word on that yet. No surprise there knowing how Nigeria rolls.

Finally, does anyone know the stipulations about flying into Nigeria with an expired Nigerian passport but with a valid Canadian one?

It has been a plain disaster at the embassy regarding passports. Having captured in March, I'm also still waiting from my passport and I've heard nothing positive from the embassy. If you know that your passport is expiring soon, you are better off applying for renewal right at this moment, or obtaining a new passport while you are in Nigeria. Don't even bother relying on the Ottawa embassy at any point, if you don't want to be grossly disappointed.

So I got a call from a Man who claims to work with the IGPSTS, Abuja. I had asked him to show me proof of his identity but he declined saying he can not share such an information online. He told me he can help me find the girl.

He asked me for all evidence against the suspect( call record and the message the missing girl (Blessing) wrote to friend about leaving her parents house). I Provided everything for him on Whatsapp. He then said I should not worry, he will take it from there. He informed me to take the family of the missing girl to the police to report the case of a missing person. When we got to the station, he actually spoke to the DPO and IPO of the station (this was through my number though).

Fast forward to Saturday(25th of June) evening, he asked that I pay him for mobilization to go to Anambra to apprehend the suspect since he has tracked him down there. I paid him 25k for the mobilization(see the attached pictures). After I paid him that Mobilization money, he hasn't been communicating with me the way he normally did. The last useful information he told me (I believe he lied) was that he was close to Asaba, and this was the next day, a Sunday morning.

After that information I got from him, nothing has come out of the task he went there for. That Sunday, I must have called a 100times but he didn't pick up my calls, neither will he reply my messages. Not until yesterday, he sent me a picture asking me if I know any of the girls in the picture and that if I believe him now? I was like, this picture is a profile picture of the suspect and that there is nothing about the picture. He did that thinking I must have thought he got the picture somewhere else that I know not of.

I can not really tell all that has happened but I can tell you all that sadly, I am no longer following up on this case. I can not believe that someone can actually take advantage of someone who is trying to save someone's life. I haven't been myself this past few weeks. I am emotionally drained and betrayed. I can't even concentrate at work. I took this decision today because I really need to focus on myself and my mental health. I have been having sleepless nights and headaches all because of this issue. The family is always asking about the outcome of the IGPSTS guy from Abuja who went to apprehend the suspect since Saturday, and I just don't know what to tell them each single day. I am sorry Blessing, God knows I failed but he also knows that I tried.
