Vanessaokoh:Furnishing in Canada can be very expensive if you are buying things new. Budget more than $1300 for a really good couch. Check prices on IKEA.ca. It will give you an idea what you need to budget for each furniture. |

A little disingenuous to tell the story like that. It was your husband's net worth, not your net worth. At that time, she hadn't even married him. I bet the Mercedes was also given to her by her then fiance |

ednut1: This is also a very important point, not adjusting their expectations accordingly because earnings appear to have increased. I don't know if they continue converting to naira in their head, but our naija people suddenly feel like they have arrived and are earning millions. You find them wanting to stay in downtown at the centre of the city when they did not live in VI or Ikoyi while in Lagos. Instead na Egbeda dem dey. Like how do you even go from there to here when nothing substantial has changed in your situation? Delayed gratification seems alien to them. This one is surprising to me. Suddenly they want to start living in expensive condos, not realising that this comes with its own bills. In the end, they can't save much. Then they complain about not being able "building wealth". "Build wealth" indeed! If you can't take the most basic financial steps to delay your gratification, how do you expect to build wealth? In the end, it's a different society you are in. You need to adjust your expectations rightly, unless you will suffer. You need to think more in terms of what's suitable in the context of Canada and not anywhere else. And don't expect things to be handed to you on a platter. That's how I was watching one of those "why people are leaving Canada" YouTube videos that our naija people living in Canada and enjoying all the comfort won't stop making. The lady said healthcare is not free in Canada and it's expensive too. She said that's one of the jarring things immigrants find and that's why they leave. Oh really? So you want to be handed free healthcare on a platter just like that because you are who? Queen Elizabeth? And it's in Nigeria that healthcare is free? Or better? Wake up, please! Another will say school is really difficult in Canada, that's another surprise for immigrants. Okay, so? Shouldn't good education be difficult? You think this is like Nigeria where you don't go to class and still pass? And is that even right? Again, expectations! It's a different society expecting different things from you. It's not Nigeria. So, adjust your expectations accordingly and stop driving yourself into the rabbit hole of complaints! 4 Likes |
Travel / One Too Many Stories Of Loneliness And Disillusion In Canada: Way Forward by CountVersailles(f): 7:37am On Nov 24, 2022 |
There have been one too many stories of loneliness and disillusion among many Nigerian immigrants in Canada. The story is usually that these people were once super excited as they left Nigeria, only to arrive in Canada and start feeling disillusioned after a few months. What exactly is responsible for this? I will tell you. The first is too much expectation. Many of these people are just so full of expectation. They are like the proverbial virgin who has been looking forward to sex all her life only to experience it and see that nothing dey there. Too much expectation is not good in anything, least of all Canada. You want to emigrated permanently to Canada and you are already thinking about all the fun you will have that you never had in Nigeria. How is that even possible? How does a crocodile become an alligator simply because it swam to the far end of the pond? Haba! Make una dey cool down. You guys need to temper your expectation. Canada is not heaven, even though it is way better than Nigeria. There are challenges in Canada too like there are in every single country of the world. People are also poor and suffering. You can easily become one of them when you come here. Nothing says you will suddenly achieve all that lost potential from Nigeria. So, make una dey calm down. Canada is not heaven and never think that leaving Nigeria for Canada makes your challenges any less. Having said that, it must be said that Canada is also way better than Nigeria and provides you more opportunity, especially in the area of work. THat’ what I will talk about next. Many of these people who complain are also poor. They are often underemployed, having left their cushy jobs in Nigeria to come and be cleaning tables in Canada. But the problem here lies squarely with them. You find that many of them are absolutely unwilling to educate themselves or to upskill in a competitive society like Canada. They think their Nigerian experience and certificate is sufficient. While this is true in some cases, in many cases it’s not. Recruiters will overlook you once they see any element of Nigeria in your CV. But you can make it better. If you are a permanent resident, the country makes it very easy for you to acquire new skills. The only problem is that many of these people don’t even want to near school ever again. How do you expect to get a good job? If you can’t upskill, I’m sorry for you. You will spend a long time in that survival job. Some of the skills that are so easy to gain these days are around business analysis, data science, or financial analysis. So easy to master these skills or get a Canadian certificate that will show that you know something. Of course, the certificate is not enough, you still need to study because recruiters will ask you questions on the subject and not on the certificate. But at least the certificate can get you the interview, then you can show your skills. If you don’t want to upskill, so many handyman skills are out there in the country to gain and you can make as much as white collar people. But ask my naija people na, they don’t want to become plumbers or electricians. Complaining gets you nowhere. The loneliness in Canada is adored by some because they can live their lives without intrusion. If the loneliness is getting to you, why not just go find a wife or boyfriend? Dating apps plenty. Men are always looking for women, and vice versa. If you talk to those people who are complaining, they are also the ones who don’t like dating app. They want to meet organically. Sorry, you go dey there long o. The solution to all these problems are out there. But if you refuse to see and instead continue complaining, you will dey there and everybody will leave you go. 6 Likes |

Aareona:There are many like you. The problem with them and you is that you don't have the will to upskill in a very competitive society. You are doing survival job and getting too comfortable with it. Why wouldn't you feel like this? Take out your time to upskill and earn yourself a good skill that will reward you better financially. Money is easy to make in Canada because they don't discriminate in giving jobs to people. 19 Likes |

This is why countries like America will continue to be ahead of Nigeria in every way, shape or form. This woman had connections in high places, but still got 11 years. Ordinary agropartnerships ponzi directors who did worst have all left the country enjoying their loot. Nigeria still has a long way to go. Family / Re: In my late 20s; I Don't Desire The typical Marriage, But I Want To Have Children by CountVersailles(f): 6:30am On Nov 01, 2022 |
Frankly, I'm inclined to think you are this way because you haven't lived for an extended time with someone of the same thinking as yours. I don't think you don't want to live with a man. Instead I think you don't want to live with a man who's constantly in your space. Many people who say this haven't experienced the kind of love that will make them change their mind, so they think it's about the marriage instead of realising it's about the man. And you say you like kids? I don't think you realise that kids are even more demanding than the man. You don't know what pressure kids will always put on you. Not to mention that your kid could turn out completely different from you and your husband. What would you do if your kid were overly dependent and wants to constantly be in your space? You'll start reading a four year old the riot act? Wake up! You need to come down to earth and actually tell yourself what you really want. As far as I can tell, I just feel you haven't met that man you can actually live with, instead of wanting to live away from any man at all. And perhaps the frustration of not having found the man is what is leading you to think like this 2 Likes 2 Shares |
Family / Re: Why Do Nigerians Get Triggered When You Ask What Someone Does For A Living by CountVersailles(f): 5:55pm On Oct 30, 2022 |
It's a pretty simple reason. Many make money illegitimately and people try to operate a "don't ask, don't tell" policy to shut down inquiries regarding what they do for a living. It's actually hard to find a Nigerian who is rich or became rich legitimately. The economic situation is very bad, so bad that if people were to earn their money legitimately, you won't see houses for prices in the hundreds of millions like 300m, 400m. It's just impossible. How much is the average salary in the country that houses should be quoted at such prices? In Canada, houses can cost average of 500k CAD, but the average annual earning is in the range of 50k CAD. Even then, most Canadians cannot drop cash and buy houses at the market rate. They have to do mortgage. Then you find Nigerians, putting hand in their pocket and paying cash values of 300m, 400m. It's just ridiculous. For many, it's either they are stealing from their employers or stealing from the country. Just look at Obi Cubana, for example, what does he do for a living? Nobody dares ask. And if you probe, they tell you that you are a hater. They get all defensive, and for good reasons too. He earns his money illegitimately. Look at Cubana chief priest, Mofa, etc. These are the scum of the earth. People making money in whatever way that the end justifies the means. If they made their money legitimately, you will see the evidence out there. In industry and everywhere else. In summary, they get defensive because they have defense for how they earn their money. They know they are up to illegal shiit and as a result don't have the courage to own up to it. That's the simple fact. The consequence is that Nigeria is going to get worse for it. That's for sure. The country can only get worse based on this development, as true economic success will evade the country for years to come. True economic success does not rely on illegal activities like drug pushing and stealing; it relies on innovation, industrial development, and less corruption. This is why 10 years from now, I don't expect Nigeria to be anywhere. There will be more corruption and the dollar value will likely be at 2000 by then. All thanks to people like Obi Cubana and Cubana chief priest, etc. 17 Likes 2 Shares |

The Nigerian government is practically the most insensitive government in the world. The only reason many of these airlines can continually take advantage of Nigerians is because they constantly bribe the top officials who allow them get away with the egregious behaviour they show. Else I can't understand how 8-hour flights into Lagos from London cost more than 200% of way longer flight hours from Las Vegas to Amsterdam, for example. These airlines can practiacally do anything and the Nigerian government won't even blink an eye. And there are those still campaigning for Tinubu. This country is finished. 4 Likes |

Damsn:depends on your goals. If your primary goal is to jakpa from the country, then go to Italy as long as it's not illegal. You can always do your express entry from anywhere. If you are comfortable in Nigeria and you are sure of meeting the cut-off (e.g. your calculated score is in the 520-530s), you may not want to bother with Italy and just focus your effort on Canada. As long as you put together a strong application that meets all the requirements, it's almost 100% certainty that you will get the express entry visa. This is the only visa (and the Australian one) that I know that EVERY single Nigerian can get as long as they meet the most basic requirements of education, experience, POF, etc. and they don't have any dark pasts. EVERY single Nigerian without exception. And of the two, this is the easiest. 3 Likes |
