Of course the resources in Nigeria are being funnelled into areas were they shouldn't be. It was the Northern leaders way of eating oil money even though oil is not produced in the North, that is why we stopped the regional financial autonomy system and changed to a federal government collects and shares everything equally system.

We changed to a system were everybody shares everything(communism) because the Northern leaders wanted to share in the oil wealth, the problem is in the 100 year history of communism, 20 or more countries and tried it and it never succeeds, the only reason why we are still doing it here is because the Northern senators will never vote to lose their free oil money.

They don't care about Nigeria as a whole, free oil Money!!! The next time somebody asks you why Nigeria fails remember it is because of the communism enforced by the Northern leaders.
Politics / Re: Facts About Nigeria by CROWE: 11:28pm On Jul 14, 2013
It is a lie, there is no way a US senator earns 6,000 a month, that is about 72,000 a year. You expect to earn shit like that when you've worked for 10 years, not 25. Do you know that there are some states in America were the average person earns almost 70,000 per year? Then you think a whole senator is earning those peanuts.

The current salary (2013) for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year.
http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/uscongress/a/congresspay.htm

which is still only 28 million Naira but I suspect you added allowances etc to the Nigeria one, still the difference will be extreme, I agree with you here.

The population of the United States is 320 Million not 500 Million, it is also less than twice that of Nigeria even if barely, though I concede your point here.

As for the rest, are you really surprised? In Nigeria government is about self glorification rather than public service.

While your points may be goood ones I suspect your information was largely made up by someone who had no idea what they were talking about.

Politics / Re: HOW Did We Get Here As A NATION? by CROWE: 2:08am On Jul 13, 2013
WHEN DID THINGS GO WRONG?

When the Northerners desperate for power started to kill and force remove Igbo presidents.(My opinion)

UNDER WHOSE WATCH DID WE MOVE OUR OF TRACK?

This is largely the same question as the first in terms of the answer, the presidents at the time can't be blamed though, they were the first victims.

WHO ARE THOSE RESPONSIBLE?

This is exactly the same as the second question, don't you understand what the words that you use mean?

WHERE ARE THEY TODAY?

Dead!!!

UNTIL WE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS, WE CANT FIND A LASTING SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEMS.

The question that needs getting answered is why did things go wrong and how, who is responsible hardly matters by comparison but I appreciate your interest.

I will tell you what needs to be done, we need to split all states from one another financially, they need to stop cycling their money through the federal government and instead only give them their share, which must be a significantly smaller share than the states get, the presidents powers must be stripped and handed to the states, it must be guaranteed in the constitution that the states government are not subject to and do not answer to the federal government, except where the national constitution is concerned making them effectively autonomous, local governments as a matter of the nation must be dissolved altogether and Nigeria is 80% fixed. The Northerners will not agree to this because splitting the states financially means they stop getting oil money and will need to actually develop their land which oddly enough they don't want so it will never happen.
Politics / Re: After 14 Years Of Flooding And Collapsing Buildings, Why Is ACN Not Accountable? by CROWE: 1:45am On Jul 13, 2013
The federal government is responsible for everything in Nigeria, everything, and are to blame when anything goes wrong. I won't bother explaining since clearly anybody who doesn't agree with you you are likely to accuse of "twisting logic" so I will just leave it at that.
Politics / Re: Is Amaechi More Powerful Than Jonathan In Nigerian Politics? by CROWE: 12:14pm On Jul 12, 2013
Abagworo: Amaechi can never be more powerful than Jonathan. Nobody is at the moment. The problem is that Jonathan is not as tactical as OBJ. He makes moves without giving a damn about the feeling of the masses thereby making himself look less intelligent than he actually is. He could have dealt with Amaechi constitutionally but slowly without raising any dusts.

ROFL, I didn't know we had somebody who has had had a personal relationship with GEJ for many years here. The next time yoou meet him in person tell him all we want is true federalism and not 50 air crafts.

Burger01: How true could this be?.. and if indeed such acts are carried out by the governors then private jets should be banned in this country.

sad

Let us ban cars, criminals use them to get away from the scene of the crime. See how stupid that sounds? I am sure there must be a charge for possession of illegal fire arms and we have courts, go and prosecute them and if they cannot be brought to justice via the law then it is a failure of the law, not to start banning everything under the sun.

Iknorite? Fashola would probably seal the deal though.

ogb5: You mean With all the acclaimed political sophistication of the yorubas, you mean all they want is a vp slot?

Will the average Yoruba man vote for a boko haram sponsor just so that his tribe's man can be vp?
I don't think so, but let's wait till 2015 and see if the yorubas are as docile as the hausas and will just vote a northerner just because their leader, tinubu told them to vote for a northerner

They probably don't want VP slot but we are no more than animals if we are without our ability to compromise.

Local government autonomy is a damned shame, they should be abolished. Also, they should have qualified immunity rather than no immunity, the law suits will be endless and the governors will live in court if they simply remove immunity altogether.

Here we go, for a minute I thought the saddists had gotten lost!! wink grin cool what a relief!!

I am not impressed by this as well. Nigeria is much too big, if we wait for the president to build airports it will take decades before all the states have fully functioning airports, things like airports it should be the governors building them, in the time the president built that one maybe 10 governors would have done the same in their states so while I think GEJ on his own isn't doing a bad job Nigeria would be over 40 times more progressive/efficient if the different states had the power to develop themselves. GEJ's very first priority should have been to secure these powers for the states(especially since he knows first hand the impossible job of the governors), that is why I don't like him, we is struggling under an established system when the simple solution to Nigeria's development problem is a simple matter of a different system.

Just saw this now... Get ready for a new word...Google!!! I don't know why some of you get so riled up and abusive over issues you have little or no grasp of. From Irikefe panel of the early 80s till today, the point has been made continuously that the Nigerian government DOES NOT KNOW the amount of oil being pumped out on daily basis from her shores. That is not the case elsewhere. Successive Nigerian governments simply rely on the quotations given to them by the oil companies as it regards the amount of oil lifted and then prepare their budgets on such figures.. That was the case then and that is the case today.. It has been discussed here before...

https://www.nairaland.com/266273/black-hole-nobody-knows-how

I am not sure what you guys are talking about but just to be clear, with what that article is saying the blame falls squarely on the Nigerians. I know that people here have a tendency to think that if Obama coughs there must be a conspiracy behind that cough.

The federal government is getting free oil so nobody really cares about the theft, if that oil belonged solely to the people of those states there would be a lot more interest in accountability but the government all the way in Aso Rock doesn't much care as long as they get many millions of Naira.
Politics / Re: Is The Egyptian Type Of Revolution Possible In Nigeria by CROWE: 8:12am On Jul 04, 2013
CFCfan: A revolution in Nigeria is possible if the civilians are backed up by the police and military. The 'old establishment' of politicians in Nigeria certainly need to be weeded out from politics in order to enthrone a popular govt at the federal level.

Actually, Nigeria's problem is not about the elite, it is about simple mindedness and ignorance, fixing Nigeria largely consists of moving powers to the states and guaranteeing them in the constitution, these elites can still just as easily steal from the states. There are no worthwhile advantages for the elites in the way our government is set up, they just don't know any better. Basically they are simple minded thieves and a "peoples government" is not necessary, a learned thief in Aso rock would do just fine.

This is the second revolution in Egypt in 3 years, a revolution in itself is not a good thing so I wouldn't say that. A revolution in Nigeria will probably be bloody, what we need is a president that has a brain and uses it.
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Economy Set To Overtake South-Africa's In Two Years by CROWE: 4:03am On Jul 04, 2013
Nigeria's economy surpassing that of South Africa is not too much of a surprise, Nigeria is much bigger than South Africa so in absolute terms it was always probably gonna happen, the problem is that being bigger doesn't mean it is better, that will take a while. Nigeria is almost four times as big as South Africa by population, our economy would need to be four times as big as theirs before we can say we have caught up to them, so this is not impressive even though it appears to be when you don't really have all the information.

MiloRambaldi:

My point is that a lot of governors, especially those in the North don't want to take responsibility and willingly want to remain powerless - largely so they can blame the FG, which is just politics.

To be fair to Amaechi, he wants State Police and he should be allowed to have it, but his Northern friends are opposed to it.

Those who reject State Police because of possible abuse by Govs, should see how the FG controlling the Police doesn't stop it being abused ( by the FG ). The Governors should join the clamour for State Police - about time some powers are reduced from the centre to the States or LGs. Same should be done for roads - the "federal road" rubbish should be abolished, any road passing thru a State should be the responsibility of that State.

True federalism is way to go.

Oh yeah yeah. That's exactly my opinion as well.
Politics / Re: Rivers Govt Will Stop Funding Police by CROWE: 2:38pm On Jul 03, 2013
MiloRambaldi:

Governors are not powerless, they are just irresponsible, playing politics with the security of the people under them. When a governor refues to take the responsibility for his State's security and expects someone in Abuja to secure them in Niger State, or Borno or Rivers, then u know it's the height of irresponsibility. If all the governors clamour for State Police, they'll get it. But most are against taking responsibility for their State's security.

Go and read the constitution again, the police do not answer to the governors, they answer to the president so how is a governor supposed to take responsibility for state security when the security agency in the state is outside of his control and only answers to somebody who can be seen as the governors boss?

GOVERNORS ARE POWERLESS, with the exclusive list, 90% of the powers in the state are given to the federal government and the other 10% the federal government can overrule the governor so tell me who is really in control of the states? But there's more, the federal government has further created local governments to distance the state governments from their people and the federal government can use and abuse the local governments however they like but when the state does it they complain and the only reason the states sometimes get away with abusing the local government is because the federal government is often too preoccupied to notice. So we have a federal government with more power in the state than the state government and local governments in the state that the state is forbidden from interfering with, how much territory is the state government actually left with? Also, do you know that the local governments have no clear responsibilities? We created local governments and all they serve to do is to create a buffer between the state governments and their peoples. In other words the State governments are powerless.

donchris999: Tinubu have looted everything lagos state have to the extent of looting market men and women through his daughter. We need to start the revolution by sending the jagajaga of lagos state to exile. That man and the man am quoting are unrepentant criminals, we need to do something fast before this thieves sell lagosians. Oya those that see donchris in their dreams can start attacking me as usual. The jagajaga of lagos is the most corrupt man africa has ever produced. Lol! IBB must be happy that someone has surpassed him. Looting lagos state government isnt enough for jagajaga he now loots market men and women. Next will be looting thugs in motor park.

You quoted his comment and then said something completely unrelated. FYI Lagos is developing at a blistering pace. I'd rather have Tinubu and friends in Aso Rock than PDP. There are two kinds of criminals, you can steal and steal or you can steal and develop. Tinubu, Fashola and Buhari at least talk about removing power from the federal level and giving it to the states, we dunno if they will actually do it but we do know that PDP will not so they MUST go!!!

kutchs:
I just laughed at this comment, shows how ignorant and lacking in knowledge this owner is. To suggest Amaechi is funding the police bc the FG is not doing so is the stupidest statement ever. State govts in funding the police only complements the FG and u must understand that more three quarters of police funding comes from the FG whose responsibility as you rightly pointed out it is. If the above is true then Amaechi should just shut up and get on with his job, the police belongs to the FG and not RSG. He shouldn‘t expect the CP to report to him but to his IG in Abuja.

The Police in Nigeria is underfunded like everything else in the country, you see pictures of Fashola buying vehicles for Lagos state police, if it was well funded he wouldn't be doing that given the other things he needs money for, so maybe "our president is not" was not the right choice of words but he certainly isn't providing enough money.

Also the governor of the state has the right to complain if the police are incompetent. Nigeria is such a funny place that when insecurity goes overboard and they declare marshal law they will not try to remove the president, it is the governor they will try to remove(just like in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno) but now that the governor is complaining about police incompetence you tell him it is the presidents responsibility. I hope when it comes to blaming people for crime levels in our states, in the future you also remember that the police is the presidents baby and not the governors.

MiloRambaldi: While Amaechi is just a confused noisemaker, State Police is way to go. But Amaechi's frends in the North would have none of it.

http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/northern-governors-reject-clamour-for-state-police/121018/

Governors are largely powerless in this country, they are held accountable for everything that happens in their states despite having less than 20% of the power within the state so it is understandable that he is whining.
Politics / Re: Nigeria Is Due For A REVOLUTION - TAMBUWAL by CROWE: 4:07am On Jul 03, 2013

Politics / Re: Rivers Govt Will Stop Funding Police by CROWE: 4:03am On Jul 03, 2013
ogb5: Amaechi should stop all this cry-cry talk.

The money used in funding the police is public fund and it is not in the interest of the public for the police to be underfunded.

He should just sit down and do his job instead of playing politics with the lives and security of the citizens of his state.

The funds under amaechi's control are not meant for police, the Nigerian police is a federal institution and it is the federal governments responsibility to fully fund them, Amaechi is only doing it because our all wise president is not, yet he likes to abuse the police, silly toad.
