Politics / Re: Why Is Eko Atlantic Legal, And Makoko Illegal (case Of Two Nigerias) by CROWE: 10:31pm On May 06, 2013 |
Eko Atlantic is legal because it was approved by the state government, Makoko is not because it was not approved. This is not a judicial issue, there is not right and wrong here, the state constructs whatever building it wants to and rejects whatever building it wants to. Rationalizing Fashola's decision has to be economic and not moral, projects like Eko Atlantic will raise Lagos profile globally and decidedly increase the economy, Makoko is not going to do the economy any good and it likely obstructs the master plan for Lagos. Fashola has no power to transform the lives of ordinary Lagosians, this is the fault of Gej, he has taken up the responsibility of fixing Nigeria alone where there are 36 other people there who were supposed to be elected to share the work with him. 1 Like |

OkparaIgbo: Do you leave your brain in bed when you wake up in the morning? perhaps you, the president of haiti and everyone he is married to are smoking something damaging. What if statements involving the masses are HUMANLY impossible to predict. Being a president of a ghetto doesn't give him some kind of special credibility. How would America be today if the revolutionary war was lost, how would the world be if Germany won ww1 and Hitler never had to come to power or if the British did not join north and south protectorates into one, only gods, spirits and devils can have that kind of knowledge, no matter what kind of food the president of Haiti is shoving down your throat do not believe such nonsense, it is IMPOSSIBLE. |
Politics / Re: Why are our Countries still impoverished? by CROWE: 5:05am On May 06, 2013 |
Africa has a few problems, while Islam itself is not a problem the mixture of Islam and other african religoions causes friction, then there is the fact that African countries are some of the most ethnically ambiguous and were not formed naturally like the rest of the worlds so they were through conflicts and resolved them but Africa on the other hand didn't and cannot resolve its conflicts since nations have already been formed. There is too much turbulence, in the rest of the world people came together to form nations but in Africa nations were created and people had to live with that. Nigeria in particular has suffered the Nation before people thing and we now have a unitary system of government masquerading as a federal system which in tourn creates the illusion of a real federal system. This in a nutshell is Nigeria's entire problem, if you want I can explain it further but basically what I am saying is that black people are not cursed, we have just undergone an unfortunate series of centuries that have left us in a right mess. 1 Like |
Politics / Re: PDP Urges EFCC To Probe Fashola Administration by CROWE: 4:53am On May 06, 2013 |
There they are!!! PDP abusing government, what they do best. Also, there needs to be justification for an investigation because lack of accountability and proper usage of resources is a bigger problem than corruption. It should be written into law, before you investigate somebody you must have a reasonable suggestion of foul play otherwise even if your investigation yields proof it will be inadmissible in court. This is how developed countries do it because lack of an accountable system is what leads to corruption in the first place. 5 Likes |

Answering the question in the title, only God can know if it would have been good or not, such a thing is impossible for us mere mortals. I am sure Igbo people will like to hope but thats all there is also I would advise less talk about Biafra, it only serves to increase discontent and therefore tension in the east. |

Gej gets a failing grade for me because he is trying to do all the work alone. First thing he should have done was share the responsibility between the governors and himself but the greedy gay is keeping all the power to himself giving peanuts to the states that cover more than 99% of the country. How does that make sense, all Nigerian governors are bound to fail at their job in the current system, all the power is with the federal government, the problems in each of the particular states are not so high on the presidencies priorities, decay sets in and society crumbles, there are kidnapping everywhere and local terrorists which only serve to make gejs major priorities all the more difficult to complete. You can say whatever you want in his favour he is fighting a losing battle of his own making, I give him a big thumbs down. I dunno who I am going to vote but it will not be PDP, they have been in power so long and have at no point tried to devolve power to the states. What are their ideologies, what exactly do they stand for, they have no vision, no direction so how are they as a party helping Nigeria, they are part of the problem. OBJ that monkey, in any of his 8 years in power he could have tried to truly federalise Nigeria but he just sat there, Nigeria is too big for a unitary government to rule it. |

Sincere 9gerian: That is not what is implied when that is said thogh, you can chose to interpret it like that but you should at least know that it is a sign of your unwavering rejection of Buhari. I imagine if the God of your religion came down from heaven or whever ever and endorsed Buhari you'd be more likely to drop the religion altogether or simply find some silly rationalization to discredit it. A man says "the people asked me to run" and you read into it as so if they ask you to jump into a fire you will!!?? SMH 1 Like |

Politics / Re: Nigeria must leave the global economy. by CROWE: 11:48pm On May 03, 2013 |
The investment from government required to make Nigeria industrial is significantly larger than what was needed in 1807, complete rehabilitation and of our roadways, electricity enough to cover industrial consumption etc. Nigeria can certainly make importation heavily unpopular, it is the plan(a ways short of isolation ) but we are not ready just yet, still have infrastructure and electricity to sort out. |

Politics / Re: Nigeria must leave the global economy. by CROWE: 9:37pm On May 03, 2013 |
Your problem is that you are arguing with yourself, I dunno what you mean by leave globalization behind if yoou are not talking about something extreme like what the North Koreans are doing because most countries have some sort of tariff for different commodities. You talk about resources, most of Nigeria's resources are still in the ground and are never touched, the same goes for many other countries in africa, alll they do in sudan is kill each other, mali, these countries have no struggling industries, gold, diamond oil these are the only things that are extracted from africa in bulk as far as I know, there are the odd few others but to identify Nigeria for example as the location where america gets its resources to manufacture is cars in china is quite the stretch. I am not here to argue about globalization and I never disputed it, my beef here was with the idea of Nigeria withdrawing into its shell as a way of starving the people of these goods so that they'd make their own and that was it. I offered a more reasonable solution to Nigerias problem and you didn't consider it or explain to me exactly what made it wrong you just wrote it off since it doesn't speak to your point. Again, as for isolation, I already said IBB did something similar it backfired, Thomas Jeffersons embargo act also backfired. I get that you are offering a solution to our situation but I believe fixing Nigeria, which is ultimately what matters to me is more an issue of finding out why we are where we are and fixing that, if more level headed solutions fail then we can consider extreme ones. |
Politics / Re: Nigeria must leave the global economy. by CROWE: 8:41pm On May 03, 2013 |
pleep: The problems in Africa are mostly self inflicted, countries in endless sectarian wars and so on and so forth. Nigeria for example is suffering because the federal government created the states and not the other way around. The states are outlined generally across ethnic lines so they somewhat represent the people so put it this way, we are in a country where the states(the people) have no power and are all dissatisfied with the terms of this union ithat is run by a federal government that represents nobody and so we constantly bickering over everything, there is going to be no progress. That is Nigerians problem, decay then sets in and corruption becomes rampant, Nigerians are far too different for the federal government, a single division to govern us all, we all want different things and whomever the president is most people at any given time will not be represented in aso rock so we end up in a cycle of fighting and bickering, the north always trying to keep the igbos down because they are worried they want to secede and everybody trying to syphon oil to their state because the federal allocation system forces us to depend on oil so everybody wants it. The result is that Nigeria is a land of people who are set up to fight each other endlessly over every little thing and do nothing else,, poor separation of power. Other African countries like Kenya have two major tribes that are endlessly fighting to rule the country and every corrupt politician caught turns it into a tribalist thing and everybody starts to slaughter his neighbour. What African countries need are constitutions written for each individual country as is needed by those countries, also if Nigeria can turn itself around Africa will prosper, Nigeria and Egypt are two countries in a unique position to transform the lives of Africans. In short, Nigerian problem is the state of our union, no one is content so we are not going anywhere. |
Politics / Re: Do You Consciously Patronise Made In Nigeria Products? by CROWE: 7:14pm On May 03, 2013 |
If we want made in Nigeria products to pick up in sales we need to force the issue, ultimately it falls to the government to set trade tariffs to force the price of imported goods to go up so that buying locally made goods becomes attractive to the people. For example, I hear there is a Nigerian car manufacturer that is not getting patronized, put tariff on importation of cars or parts so the people have to buy their cars, simple. The US did something of this nature back in the day when the Japanese manufactures were dominating the electrical appliances market in the US. 5 Likes |

pleep: Dude trust me... every night i dream about the day i get the power to put all my crazy theories into action. We'd rather be spared your crazy theories though, globalization fosters competition, development and therefore progress. An american president cut off trade with Europe, I think it was Jefferson, he was ribbed for, it ruined their economy and ultimately he was never re-elected, IBB did the same I think and ruined our economy as well, international trade is good for a country, to stimulate industrialization and development of a country we have this thing called international tariffs, isolation is pretty extreme and ruinous to boot, perish the thought. |
Politics / Re: Pictures Of New Lagos In 2020 by CROWE: 10:46am On May 03, 2013 |
Lagos will not be like that by 2020, it is tied down by Nigeria's revenue allocation system which makes it so that any progress in Lagos is hampered by the governments syphoning of money to unproductive states. You see, when someone is doing well, the sane thing to do is to give him more money but in Nigeria all the money made in all states including Lagos is collected, the federal government keeps most of it and shares the rest among the states so Lagos cannot grow since any financial progress is stalled so its a nice dream but it wont happen unless we become truly federal, all states gain fiscal autonomy and money made in Lagos can then continue to fuel its economy. |

naijabigfish: Are you Jonathan Goodluck's sumpathizer? Obsanjo's right about Jonathan's administration. The idea that Obasanjo's administration was cleaner is absurd, it is a classic example of the pot calling kettle black, also it is not the police job to protect pipelines, if you want to get someone to do something so specific and wide spread like that you need a specialized branch, common sense dictates that. The police cannot even do the job they already have properly then you go and heap pipeline security on them? OBJ is not wrong to say GEJ's administration is corrupt but certainly not from his high horse, his administration was easily as bad. |

I vote Fashola, not because Fashola will be a good president, with Nigerians current government structure it is impossible for anyone to be a good president anyway, Fashola has been advocating for true federalism and this is the solution to Nigeria's problem, it will almost immediately stop the decay and he may not do it if he comes into power but at least he is among the few people talking about it. Historically, multicultural nations only stuck together by fear, either of the ruler or of another foe that threatend to wipe them all out, they never really prospered and when that ruler or foe was gone they crumbled, when a German noble became king of England he tended to take an English wife to appease the people, marriage is not an option in Nigerian and there are far too many people to appease, no Nigerian can be said to identify with a majority of the people so there will always be discontent over who is president, giving the individual states full autonomy means that the Igbos can do what they want with the east, the pib will pass because the northerners no longer have any reason to reject it as they no longer depend on it and they will do a much better job of getting rid of boko haram, we free the different peoples too shape their homes and they see fit and Nigeria will become developed in our lifetime so ANYBODY WHO WANTS FEDERALISM IN NIGERIA GETS MY VOTE. 5 Likes |

Politics / Re: The Poor Are Not Blameless by CROWE: 1:16am On Apr 26, 2013 |
After reading most of what you are saying I got the gist of it, this is total jargon, there are people like that everywhere who are responsible for their poverty and there is a standard degree of disregard and laziness but the standard prevents you from being rich, it shouldn't make you poor if the economy is done right and Nigeria's rich do not invest their money, they rob the country blind and hide it otherwise they'd have made laws that favour investment and industry in Nigeria so they can grow their money just like in America where the laws favour big business, there is not such consideration in Nigeria so rich people obviously aren't investing, if they go outside to do it then they are just as stupid as the poor which compromises their ability to make money legitimately in the first place. Nigeria's poverty falls squarely at the feet of the government. Nigeria is a horrible place for business, we are at the bottom of the scale and this is why Nigerians are poor, not because they are lazy, Nigerians are no different from everybody else. You should consider both sides of an issue when you formulate theories. |

If this is true ANC need a new publicity secretary, it would be scary to imagine they actually condone and support what he said because it would show a grim road ahead. The problem with Nigeria is that we spend all our time fighting ourselves along the many divides we have in this country, north and south, Christian and Muslim, Igbo and Hausa and now we have ACN vs PDP, just another way for Nigerians to spend time doing nothing but sabotaging themselves. It is quite spectacular how fvcked up this country is but then that is what Nigerians know how to do best, fvck up spectacularly. 4 Likes |
