Has anyone noticed the East was least affected by this flood issue? They have untapped lands with waters channels.

But go to Lagos and other places, they've gone to erect illegal structure, thereby blocking free flow of water.

#Igbos think home.. let others enjoy their lands
See this olu ode. Na who dey sale the land give them in the first place, If we should go by your sentiment. Stop attaching tribal sentiment to everything. Lagos is a coastal city, thus the inevitable flood. Besides, even Port Harcourt is badly affected with flood this few days.

Internet Biafra, and the world at large is taking serious notice of the movement. Give it to IPOB when it comes to tenacity and courage. If they get more organized and civil, coupled with the way they are going, Biafra will happen before your very eyes.

That is the tale of an ibo man

Hate and jealousy the blood line of Nigerians. What is bad that a man built a project from scratch, with locally sourced materials and you are hating on his tribe. The tale of the Igbos is beyond fall... we will continue to rise.... even the sun will be our starting point, God willing. Your policies and hate will not stop, but fuel our objective quest to be the best. Now, do the needful by hugging the nearest transformer with wet hands. Capish!

What value? Crime and money loving? Abeg the most progressive people today are the yorubas (great people great culture) and are the least discriminatory. Its not that yorubas really need anyone but if Nigeria should break it will be wise to follow the yorubas as it will produce a stronger nation that have been elusive in Nigeria since 1960. Think and be wise don't be intimidated and make wrong decisions. Lobatan.

Politics / Re: Happening Now!! Debate On Changing The Country's Name, "Nigeria" Rages On!! by cumbak60: 10:45am On Jul 25, 2017
Destined2win:
The name 'Nigeria' was coined by British journalist and the wife of Lord Lugard, Flora Shaw. I may not have a lot of information on the personality of Flora Shaw but Lord Lugard's words showed he has personality issues and is racially prejudiced. Check out his words;

"Lagos has for 20 years opposed every Governor and has fomented strife and bloodshed in the
hinterland. I have spent the best part of my life in Africa; my aim has been the betterment of the
natives for whom I have been ready to give my life. But after some 29 years, and after nearly 12
years as Governor here, I am free to say that the people of Lagos and indeed the westerners are
the lowest, the most seditious and disloyal, the most purely prompted by self-seeking money
motives of any people I have met.”

As if that were not bad enough, two years later, on September 25th 1918, in a letter to his
colleague Walter H. Lang, Lugard wrote the following: “The Hausa-Fulani has no ideals, no
ambitions save such as sensual in character. He is a fatalist, spendthrift and a gambler. He is
gravely immoral and is seriously diseased that he is a menace to any community to which he
seeks to attach himself.”

Lugard’s words are utterly reprehensible. They represent the most appalling examples of racial
stereotyping that I have ever seen. Yet he didn’t stop there. In his book titled ‘The Dual Mandate’
(pg. 70) 1926 he wrote the following:

“In character and temperament, the typical African of this race-type is a happy, thriftless, excitable
person. LACKING IN SELF-CONTROL, DISCIPLINE, AND FORESIGHT. Naturally courageous, and
naturally courteous and polite, full of personal vanity, with little sense of veracity, fond of music
and loving weapons as an oriental loves jewelry. HIS THOUGHTS ARE CONCENTRATED ON THE
EVENTS AND FEELINGS OF THE MOMENT, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the
future, or grief for the past. His mind is far nearer to the animal world than that of the European
or Asiatic, and exhibits something of the animals’ placidity and want of desire to rise beyond the
State he has reached. Through the ages THE AFRICAN APPEARS TO HAVE EVOLVED NO
ORGANIZED RELIGIOUS CREED, and though some tribes appear to believe in a deity, the religious
sense seldom rises above pantheistic animalism and seems more often to take the form of a
vague dread of the supernatural . HE LACKS THE POWER OF ORGANIZATION, and is conspicuously
deficient in the management and control alike of men or business. HE LOVES THE DISPLAY OF
POWER, but fails to realize its responsibility… he will work hard with a less incentive than most
races. He has the courage of the fighting animal, an instinct rather than a moral virtue… In brief,
the virtues and defects of this race-type are those of attractive children, whose confidence when it
is won is given ungrudgingly as to an older and wiser superior and without envy…Perhaps the two
traits which have impressed me as those most characteristic of the African native are HIS LACK OF
APPREHENSION AND HIS LACK OF ABILITY TO VISUALIZE THE FUTURE.”

The fact is the British came here to satisfy their own interest and any offshoot of their being here should be revisited.

Now I tried to find out the motive behind naming this country 'Nigeria' which means 'Niger area'. Some articles I have seen claims that the Latin word 'niger' which means 'black or darkness' is erroneous. That left me wondering, why would a people numbering more than 150m be answering a name they have no solid background of its true meaning or the genuine motives behind its naming ?

Decades after independence, we are yet to define our concept of nationhood, we are yet to make headway even with all the resources at oir disposal. It is either we rebrand the name of our country to reflect the core values which we stand for OR we create our own meaning of what the name 'Nigeria' means. Because as it stands now, that name has no values attached with it only the knowledge that one woman and her husband from far away came and gave us the name.

Nigeria, as its stands now, is a perfect example of what Lord Lugard wrote hundred years ago. Do we have visionary leaders? How has the country fared since independence? The problem of Nigeria is beyond the name....

Delta state is a Bini offshoot apart from the Itsekiris who were part of Ilaje. Besides, these Itsekiri has now got Bini blood, hence they are still under the Bini umbrella.

Interesting debate guys. Very informative too.

My inputs:

1. Was it an Igbo coup? No it wasn't.

2. Who led it? Led by charismatic Officers of Igbo extraction (as defined at the time).

3. Was there an Igbo (tribal) connotation? No. Awolowo (a Yoruba man) was to be the key beneficiary.

4. Who foiled the coup? Notable Igbo senior officers, Ironsi and Ojukwu played a key role. Ironsi was the key driver to the failure.

5. Did Ironsi have ulterior motives? No. His appointment as Head of State was not his decision.

6. Key reason for the counter coup? The Officers of Northern origin as defined at the time were disgruntled and displeased at the inadvertent unplanned outcome of the coup which saw an Igbo man emerge as Head of State. They were also displeased that no serious decisions had been taken against the coup plotters.

7. Has there been any coup with the absolute consent if a tribe? No. Just officers who gravitated towards each other based on common grievances. It is normal to find Officers of same ethnic extraction flock together for such intents.

8. Is there need for endless arguments? No. Coups have so far benefited no tribe. The North with the longest cumulative "Head-of-State" years, remain very impoverished.

9. Way forward: irrespective of tribe, let us all find methods and ways to economic salvation. Rwanda has left us....

Nb:
All is vanity!
Nigeria is unworkable. Be realistic for goodness sake.

Actually, you are the one (attempting to) practice (ing) revisionism, we all know the history, stop trying 5o change the narrative. Your attempt reeks of either ignorance or dishonesty, I'm not sure which.
The facts remain, as the previous commenter said. It is painful to watch you try to revise history, and then claim it is the other party trying to do so.
Here is what happened, from the very beginning. The north was initially the most powerful political bloc in the country due to the size and homogeny of the region. In order to have a fair political playing ground, the Action Group (AG) at the time attempted to unite with the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC). But there were only 2 slots available for the leadership of the just birthed country, these slots were the prime minister and the president position. Nnamdi Azikiwe (who wanted unification of the regions, according to the Kwame Nkrumah school of thought,Kwame wanted One Africa as a bigger playing field with him as the overall leader , Nnamdi Azikiwe wanted the same for Nigera) in his quest for power he cut a deal with the north to be the president of the country, leaving Awolowo and the AG out in the cold.
By the time the dust of the elections settled, the prime minister turned out to be the highest position in the land, with the president as a mere figurehead. This didn't bode well with Zik and the eastern political elite at the time who wanted to be number one. Their fear was that the north would perpetuate itself in power. The calculation leading to this thought, was that whoever got control of the country at that budding stage most likely was going to rule for a lifetime (like what's happening in Zimbabwe now).
So Zik reached out to the boys in uniform to achieve what he couldn't at the polls, snatch power, hence the coup.
So please OP, don't act like you are the only one who went to school in the whole village and the rest of us are mere illiterate farmers.
Cheers.

Buhari should have ignored Kanu like Jonathan did (and Osinbajo is trying to now).

But no ... he went all in and gave him and his cause wider free publicity in the local and international media. Now you have foreign media outlets visiting to do interviews, covering rallies and the likes - with the local media having no option than to follow on their tails - to do the same.

And the elephant in the room part of our history has been reawakened. Make no mistake - this will not go away. Look at slavery in the USA for example. They kept on sweeping it under the carpet till the upheaveal that followed the election of republican Lincoln as president. Also look at segregation that followed in same country till Martin came along. Even look at apartheid in South Africa - it went on till Mandela came along.

These agitations will not end till either of two things happen:

1. Nigeria becomes a true country where justice,
peace, fairness and equality reigns.

2. Biafra becomes a republic.
