ngozievergreen: It's good to know that Ibos will support Regional Governments - I think it is the first step to independent countries coming out of Nigeria. I mentioned Ironsi so that the truth of history is not lost because he is directly responsible. You can argue that it is not the job of another person to fix your screw-up: they may or may not - but it doesn't make it any more correct for you who screwed-up! Ironsi destroyed Nigeria's working regional governments for unitary government at a time Ibos were in prime position at all top levels of government bureaucracy and companies obviously because he knew Ibos would benefit the most when all policies is dictated from a central position by a fellow Ibo! The next day after announcing decree 34, Ojukwu announced to the world that on the basis of seniority, Ibos from the East would be transferred to the north to do what? Of course, to become heads of government bureaucracy, not as messengers but in fact to consign the Hausas who were quite disadvantaged educationally to more servitude as messengers! When the bottom fell-out from the coup charade, and the supposed victims gained ascendancy, is it justified to expect them to hand on a platter to you what you took from them, by force even when there were dissenting opinions and riots? Think about this and be honest! Yes, OBJ ruled as president but you should know that OBJ's worldview is that of a military man with a unitary view of command structure, he knew nothing else all his life, how would you expect a grown lion to feed on vegetables? Also, the socio-politico-economics situation when OBJ became president in 1999 was so bad, the last thing that would be on the mind of any sensible leader is further division! He did great by unifying the country and improving our image in the reckoning of the world after it had been so battered by IBB and Abacha and there is no way, you would expect that he would break Nigeria into regions! In any case, now is the time for Ibos to support regionalism, the first step to Biafra and independent states from other parts of Nigeria! Godspeed to all of YOU! 4 Likes |

No system is perfect and I don't think there is need to throw the baby out with the water, I hope LASTMA gets better. Rome was not built in a day. Omonile cannot be corrupt, they own the land on which you walk but are not give 13% derivation like oil producing companies. Politics / Re: Igbo Presidency by CyberG: 10:03pm On Nov 11, 2013 |
Slizbeat: See the giving the igbos a strategy on how to hit the Presidency slot. He that must come to equity must come with clean hands, something the Ibos are now unable to do! As far back as before independence, there was a GOLDEN chance for Ibos to "go" but they did not and neither did they leave a room for anybody to go as Azikiwe wanted a single Nigeria, shunning progressive alliance with Chief Awolowo to take sides with the north, whom he knew that could not compete on the same level with the Ibos. It was clear that in any arrangement that brought both North and East together, the North could derive a lot of benefits but the East will derive MUCH more benefits from such arrangement because the workforce to replace the departing expatriate whites would be drawn mostly from the places where the leaders of the country came from. That is exactly what happened and that was why for example, Ibos were the VCs of most Nigerian universities in the 50's, were the majority officers in the army, were the supervisors in the railways, airways, seaports, etc, add all that together with Zik as ceremonial president and give PM to Balewa, there was no better deal! Zik knew that someday Balewa (north) would cease to be PM but the thousands of Ibos at the top of virtually all government agencies is a major win for the Ibos while almost all the norther Hausas will be messengers, hewers of wood and fetchers of water for their ogas, etc. When this eventually failed because of the coup, an attempted power grab, a war, etc and then that top position which Ibos coveted at that time was lost, why would the Hausa who now realize they were shafted badly relinquish their stranglehold on what remains the legacy of Zik's short-sighted alliance, which lasted less than 10 years? Since 1966, more than 40 years, the Ibos have to live under the yoke of what happened because of less than 10 years of shafting the rest of the country. The Westerners that were sidelined when Zik passed up the opportunity definitely have no moral burden to interfere in helping the people who declined the hand of partnership, when it was time to lay a good foundation. This is why it is difficult for the rest of Nigeria to let Ibos go and that is why all parts of Nigeria are now trapped into this quagmire! The Yorubas, Hausas, Ijaw, ND, MB, etc cannot go (legally) because we are not all trapped and except the law is changed to allow for parts of the country to "go", other parts of the country will be legally obliged to use force against an errant part who thinks it could do whatever it likes illegally. My only suggestion is that let Ibos support REGIONAL governments during this conference (if it is real) and that will be the first step to independence for them and every part of Nigeria today! |

mekaboy: Who are the corrupt in this case? Maybe at the FG level, there can be no order because GEJ is currently harbouring corrupt persons like Oduah, Maduekwe, Iweala, etc in his government or some of the PDP states where there is nothing on ground that the people can even see as any evidence of an existing government. While the Lagos and SW states still have a long way to go, there is no part of the country doing as well as any of those states and it is very possible that there is corruption among some of their officials. However, how can anyone blame them since they don't even have the powers to prosecute and fight corruption: EFCC and Police are controlled by GEJ under whom corruption is now a runaway phenomenon! |

theoctopus: Leyland is assembling like Innoson but the are more interested in big trucks and buses, not cars. I know their headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State. Also, I know that Innoson is also an importer of knocked-down parts which it assembles - NOT manufacturing - let us get the difference clear and one is not better than the order from a business standpoint: they are doing what is most profitable for their businesses. Toyota (which Elizade I think is their representative in Nigeria) thinks its most profitable for them to sell fully assembled Toyotas from South Africa or wherever, that is their business decision and the only thing that could change that are either: a significant change in the economics of local manufacturing (market forces) that is such that they are able to make more profit if they shift their assembly plant to Nigeria or government policy - which the new Segun Aganga initiated reform program (under the current Jonathan government) has now done. |

mekaboy: They will patronize whoever brings the biggest value to their states and people! The US (and other progressive states) did not just patronize companies in the US (their own country) when there were more competitive options in China and other countries. If Innoson is so competitive and provides the best bang for the buck, any state even foreign countries will patronize it. If the government of the state in which it pays taxes, hires people and in which it sited its operations do not buy its products exclusively, then it means something is not competitive or not right with it. You cannot shift any requirements to the Yoruba South West by any means because last time I checked, there are far bigger conglomerates in automobile sales, service and manufacturing in the SW than in the SE: CFAO (Molade Okoya Thomas), Elizade, Leyland, etc (all owned and in the South West). |

mekaboy: Well, no need to be pessimistic because you worry that order can not be introduced into any system! It can, the whiteman introduced order, Nigeria had some form of order in Buhari's time and there surely was a lot of orderliness in the days of Chief Awolowo as Premier of the Western Region. Poverty and lack of good example has created in your mind and most Nigerians that things can not work in an orderly fashion in Nigeria but it will and in the South West, there will be order at any price! In the worst case scenario, people who cannot live within laws and order can move to any of the other states outside the South West. |

ndu_chucks: I wonder how much of what really happened you believe or is it a recent book that you read that makes you to be twisting and turning - you, not Katz is doing the twisting and turning just to arrive at a pre-conceived conclusion. So, if a government (especially lying and dishonest governments like has been in Nigeria almost throughout its history) puts out a position, IT MUST BE BELIEVED because it is the INFALLIBLE TRUTH? Oh, or you accept that position when it suits your pre-conceived conclusion and you argue it when it goes against it? Well, I tell you what: if governments always told the truth (like you posit here), then the court of public opinion will always be the same as that of the government! That is something that has rarely happened in Nigeria and that is why till tomorrow, the majority of the people concerned with the leadership of Awolowo and Akintola ALWAYS and will always put Awolowo ahead of Akintola! No amount of stories can change that...especially when you somehow imply that some judiciary found Akintola was "right" given that the same judiciary - riduculously compromises by Balewa, Bello, Zik and their minions had to convict the same Chief Awolowo on trumped-up treason charge! Years later, the judge that handed down a guilty verdict to Fela apologized and publicly confessed that he was told to convict him by all means. Chief Awolowo since wrote an update to the so called conviction in his book, My March through the Prison, did you ever read it or why hasn't any of the people you mentioned rebutted his positions? Oh, today you would still have us believe that since the government has not found any wrong doing in Oduah, then she is innocent and the people who allege corruption are wrong?? 5 Likes |

PointB: But why do you resort to all this insults for people who you don't know and who are simply making their opinion public? Yes, you are Ibo, but why do you take out your frustration on the OP and people who are contributing to the thread? I will only remind you that hatred for them will not get you anywhere and Hausas and Yorubas know this too well, and although a minority of Ibos may be less hateful of other Nigerians, it seems the hatred of the majority will always be the yardstick of judgement for you people. I suggest, like the OP, that you tone down this hatred. Whether or not Ibos become president before Yorubas, you might want to know that even if Ibos attain the presidency before the Yorubas and the Yorubas afterwards, the number of years for the Yorubas will still be greater. However, that will not be a problem, the real problem will be that since the Northerners and Westerners know of the hatred towards them from Ibos, how are you going to influence them to get them to vote for you? It is obvious that the Hausas are more likely to vote for a Yoruba candidate and vice versa with the Yorubas ahead of the Ibos, how are you going to change that and correct this image problem? Rather than throw around insults, it would be more beneficial to fix this major problem first before anything else. |

ngozievergreen: Will you and your people support regionalism because it is clear that until Yorubas and Ibos moderate the over-familiarity, both sides will continue this back and forth. I would have preferred sovereign countries but from the tone of the current leadership of Nigeria, the ideas about this conference (if true) and a corrupt elite that will not allow their cash cows to go in peace to form independent countries, the next best thing is regional governments like practiced before Ironsi killed it with his decree 34 and instituted Unitary government. A regional government will surely engender the type of healthy competitiveness that Nigeria needs in its federating units in order to lift the country up. As a secondary benefit, constituents can really be recognized by superior administration and policy actions leading to better economies and a better life and then we will see what Yorubas and Ibos can do by themselves. Will Ibos support regionalism?? |

This looks like desperation by Obi. Why are there no people at this commissioning or was this a photo opportunity (photo OP)?? It's very funny that there is no one behind them in the picture, no crowd, does it mean no one is aware of this event? And was it a special day that almost all of them including Obi are wearing clothes with Ojukwu's picture on it? Is this what they all wear everyday or this was more of a campaign photo op?? In the first picture, the group of men standing on the bridge seem not to be going towards the people commissioning the bridge, why? Is it that they know the bridge has already been opened so there is no incentive or newness to attract them to go closer to the event? In the second picture, only the people wearing Ojukwu's ankara are in the picture, no one else, why is that? Hmmm...this looks like a sham and an attempt to hoodwink the gullible Ibos for the sake of the election. 2 Likes |

If I were in PH, I would go right there and ask for the thesis, what is GEJ and his paid lapdogs afraid of? Look, when you see a man who is yet to be accused, start defending himself before being accused, you can be sure that 99% of the time, he is guilty! No one is saying he does not have a thesis or that he bought it or he arm-twisted Uniport or supervisor whatever to grant him a Ph. D because he was already in government - a brazen case of academic fraud! The question is why are his paid 40-lapdogs pushing back so hard if he is not guilty or hiding something? I would guess that the thesis either 1. DOES NOT EXIST (meaning mago-mago to get a Ph. D) 2. Very low quality work not worthy of a Ph. D (or B. Sc really) 3. Exposes his low-level of mental capability because of the wateriness of whatever academic credentials he likes to show. One thing I know for sure is SOUND, academically gifted students are always PROUD of their work and results and need no invitation or advice before they begin to tell you about it! While I was in graduate school, I was more than happy to share my knowledge about electron-atom interactions in matter at the nanoscale with people who were just really curious about some research paper I was writing or just published! Yes, you might want to be modest by not telling them you scored an A+ in a course but surely if someone asks, you tell them with a smile. Even sometimes when I was in Ife and I get an average result like a B or C, I could communicate my disappointment to whoever I was talking to but I would somehow mention of the ones I scored A's in and that I scored perfect 5.0 GPA twice in engineering! So why is the president hiding his academic records and thesis? |

Politics / Re: Awolowo Is Responsible For The Developments In Today's Western States - Clark by CyberG: 3:03am On Nov 10, 2013 |
Nigeria is definitely NOT practicing regionalism as being emphasized by Omonakoda and this is definitely not federalism and anyone is free to find another name for our system of government but it ridiculous to suggest that Nigeria practices "federalism", which was never our idea, nor a correct implementation of the original form as practiced by countries like the US! You can surely find another name for it, but it is leaves a bitter taste in the mouth if more than 50% of recent debate on this thread is whether or not Nigeria is practicing federalism. Ironsi abolished a system of government with his decree 34 and introduced another one, is anyone suggesting that the system of government practiced now (pseudo-federalism, for lack of a better wording), the same as the federal system in which the federating units were regions, not states? At the end of the day, we can slice and dice the semantics of name however we want, suggest that a state is similar to a region, maybe smaller, but the actual form and operation of the government of Nigeria is nothing "Federal" at all. If the phraseology "regionalism" is used to distinguish the kind of "federal" government we have now and what a real federally structured government should be, then it is well justified - by all means if you will describe Nigeria as a "federal government", then make it so, not a unitary system of government wearing the outward clock of a "federal government". It is quite plausible to think that because of Nigeria's long years of military rule, there is a severe blunting of what a "federal government" should be. Until federating units (be it states or regions) become self-governing AND control 100% of their own resources, do not have their lives controlled from remote central government, directly fund and control their own police, (please let people stop talking about courts at the state level, law and justice is useless IF the law cannot be enforced or can be manipulated by a CENTRAL GOVERNMENT!), can not make decisions that bother on what infrastructure the people of the state or region need but must check if the central government agrees (as in the case of the suspended bridge in Lagos where the FG is suggesting that the state needs to get some kind of approval before constructing a bridge on an inland waterway, etc, etc. I think we should just stay on this topic, Chief Awolowo did great for the Western States (region) of Nigeria and his people, anyone who disagrees can present an alternative opinion and support it with whatever reasons. 4 Likes |

Asking or expecting him to explain a "context" when he is merely looking for any excuse to display his hatred only gives him even more of a platform.
