Chief Perekeme Richard Kpodo, the former Security Adviser to the Bayelsa State Government, has been accused of rape and unlawful detention of one Miss Teke Blessing in his hotel in Etegwe, Yenagoa, Bayelsa.

The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state, was arraigned at the Yenagoa magistrate court earlier today.

Mr Kpodo was alleged to have raped miss Blessing Teke on the 20th of June 2018 at his Perry Rich hotel.

He was accused of the aforementioned charges and his lawyer pleaded that his client should be granted bail on health challenges.

The council to the state further submitted that the defendant has not proved beyond reasonable doubt his condition and he should present certifiable evidence of his health issues.

The presiding judge remanded him in prison custody and adjourned the matter to 10th of August 2018 for further hearing.

A police sergeant with the Counter Terrorist Unit in Maiduguri, Borno State, has been arrested in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, for allegedly selling ammunition to cattle rustlers and other criminals, a report by DailyPost has revealed.
It was gathered that Sgt. Zakariah John was caught selling a round of 7.62MM Special Ammunition to a suspected rustler.
Most of the attacks and killings in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Mangu and Bassa councils have been linked to proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven Maj. Adam Umar, who paraded the suspects yesterday, said: “We have in our custody a serving police sergeant – Sgt. Zakariah John – and a suspected rustler – Sani Muhammed – both of whom are suspected to be gun runners.
“We also have in our custody Patrick Choji and Yakubu Davou who were arrested for illegal possession of firearms. We have 10 suspects in all but with various offenses, ranging from rustling, robbery, impersonation and gun running.
“They were arrested from various spots, some from Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Nasarawa State.
“Victor Davou and Joshua Dagwom are suspected to be part of those who rustled cows in Fan district of Barkin Ladi before the attacks last month, though we are still investigating to ascertain their level of involvement.”
Narrating how the suspects were arrested, Umar said: “As we intensified our investigations following the June 23 incident, we arrested one of the rustlers and he confessed that a policeman supplies him ammunition. So he was told to ask for another supply.
“We took the suspect to the meeting point, laid an ambush, and the supplier appeared – he supplied 180 rounds of 7.62MM special. Each round of ammunition was sold for N450. It used to be N400 but according to the supplier, scarcity of the product forced him to increase the price.
“That was how the suspect was arrested and upon interrogation, we discovered he is a police sergeant serving with the Counter Terrorist Unit in Maiduguri. “This discovery will help in reducing the proliferation of arms in these troubled areas.”

There is no end in sight to the evacuation of stranded Nigerian migrants in Libya as another batch of 162 youths under the Voluntary Returnees Scheme facilitated by the European Union / International Organization for Migration (IOM) arrived Nigeria in the late hours of Thursday.





The aircraft with registration number 5A-DMG arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) at 9:56 pm with 162 returnees. Three of the returnees arrived with minor medical cases.



It was however a harvest of pregnancies as 15 of the returnees arrived heavily pregnant.



The breakdown shows that there were 83 female adults, six female children and six female infants. Others included 62 male adults, two male children and three male infants.



The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director General, Mustapha Maihajja who received the returnees on behalf of the Federal Government advised the youths to embrace regular migration.



Represented by the Lagos Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Alh. Yakubu Suleiman, the DG warned prospective migrants not to endanger their lives by embarking on irregular migration.



The NEMA boss was further quoted as pointing out that migration has been part of human life from time of creation for different reasons, though it is not mandatory of intended host country to accept the migration based on the country's national policies.

The Presidency on Thursday blamed past leadership of former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Oyegun for the crisis in the party.
Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie in a statement on her Facebook page said electing Oyegun was a grave mistake as he was led by leaders of nPDP who brought the downfall of the party.

According to her, Oyegun served the party in the interest of nPDP leaders who operated on the template laid by nPDP.
“It has to be understood that the only experience Nigerians have had in the recent times has been that of PDP. Their system was not ordinary people friendly. Ordinary party faithfuls had no part nor say in PDP affairs. PDP was and is still run by impunity. Only one person and at best, a few people, decide what needs to be done.

“Consequently, the leadership of Chief Oyegun, copied verbatim, the PDP ways of doing things. It must be understood too, that the only example Chief Oyegun had of party leadership in recent times was PDP. But he was unwilling to adapt. He was not willing to be innovative or creative. At first he showed eagerness to do things differently but now we know, why he couldn’t lead change.

“It turned out that the nPDP was a pebble in the blender that blended APC into a merger. The nPDP, being a pebble that sneaked into a blender that merged ACN, ANPP, CPR and half APGA, could not merge with the others as their character was still, PDP. This nPDP hijacked Chief Oyegun and used him to transform our treasured APC into something many of us could not recognise. Nigerians began to look for, but could not see the difference between APC and PDP. Consequently, many of us either stood aloof and watched or began a background campaign to recover our party. I joined the later.

“Impunity took over the national APC. Some members of the National Working Committee, complained bitterly that Chief Oyegun was acting alone, guided of course, by nPDP leaders in the party. Everything he did was to serve their interests. The NWC would decide on an issue. Behind them, Chief Oyegun would reverse their collective decisions. He ran the APC HQ as a private estate. Are you asking how I came about that conclusion? I am from Delta State. I’ll just hang it there!

“And then it happened. His Excellency, Comrade Oshiomhole, a core progressive, emerged as the new leader of APC and all hell broke loose! Grumbling became louder. Threats erupted. There was jittery. There was panic. Those who were used to having their ways, sought to escape. They began to be comical. They did not need anyone to tell them that the game was up. They scampered like frightened chicks at the appearance of a shadow of an eagle from the sky. They know they cannot manipulate our Comrade. They know he belongs to the people. Yes the people!

“Many of us were delighted. As I said earlier, we wanted an APC that is different both in character and content from PDP. But the pebbles that refused to be merged, ensured APC remained bloated, overweight, inedible and indigestible. Many Nigerians voiced the glaring fact that APC looked like, talked like and acted like it’s older brother, PDP. But that was not APC. It was nPDP.

“But the change is now happening. Not totally, because there are still remnants of the old order, who would want everything to continue at the APC HQ, as usual. We are watching them and we will not tolerate their impunity and corruption in our new NWC. We will speak up.

“Looking like PDP was not funny. It wad sad. Being obese is unhealthy by any standard. It’s time to lose weight. It’s time for members of all political parties in Nigeria to return to where they feel comfortable in terms of ideology. In APC, we expected defections of pebbles who could not blend with the rest of us. We are also expecting that those Nigerians who are stranded in other parties or who could not see the difference between APC and PDP, would soon see the difference and return to where they truly belong.

“What is happening now, is great for the growth of party politics in Nigeria. When we are through, when one says he/she is APC or PDP, we will, straight away, know who they are and what they stand for. Parties will be driven by ideologies, not by personal interests or stomach infrastructure.

“We are in a good place in our democratic journey. APC is going through renovation and refurbishment. We could not have had a better pair of hands than His Excellency, Comrade Adams Eric Aliyu Oshiomhole to supervise the work of recovering our great party, APC.

“We must all join hands with our party leaders to fully recover our party. We are nearly there. We will show Nigerians that we are different. We ask Nigerians to be patient with us as we fight for the heart and soul of our party.

Eweka, 31, appeared in a Manhattan court on Thursday where he pleaded guiltyto charges of larceny and scheme to defraud.

According to court documents, Eweka and McKay used office space in the Empire State Building and another building on fifth avenue to run two bogus employment agency firms, Stamford Consulting Firm and Howard Consulting Group.

They also used fake names, according to the New York Post. Eweka went by the name Sean Jackson and McKay reportedly used the name Tyrone Hayes.

Prosecutors said they would invite their victims to their office for an interview and then have them pay a fee, ranging between $300 and $700, the Post reports.

Prosecutor Catherine McCaw said they told victims the fee would cover the cost of uniforms, training and background checks.

They also said that paying the high fee would result in higher-paying jobs.

'But in reality, there was no such job,' she said at Eweka's arraignment on Thursday in Manhattan Supreme Court.

After collecting the money, the men would send the job seekers to different businesses, where they were turned away by employers who weren't expecting them.

The victims then found that they could no longer get in contact with the alleged fraudsters or the consulting firm.

According to authorities, Eweka and McKay duped 250 people.

Prosecutors said they never provided a single job.

They ran the alleged scam from January to June 2018.

Eweka is a prince from the Benin royal family in Nigeria, according to reports, and a United States citizen living in New Jersey.

McKay is from the Bronx.

Both men were indicted on charges of larceny and scheme to defraud. McKay was arraigned last week and released on $200,000 bail, theNew York Times reports.

In 2016, Eweka married attorney Imade Igbinedion in an elaborate wedding ceremony in Nigeria.

Representatives from the Benin family told the Times they could not confirm whether Eweka was a family member because the 'it is a very large family'.

The Federal Government has approved a 10-year validity period for Nigerian passports.

This followed a presidential approval to change the face of the e-passport 10 years after it was introduced in the country.

Currently, the passports have a five-year validity period.

The Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, who said this in a report monitored on Channels Tv on Thursday, added that the extended validity period would reduce the stress Nigerians went through every five years to renew their passports.

“One of the reforms he (President Buhari) has approved is that we would improve the quality, security of our passport booklets.

“Ten years after the enrolment of the e-passport system, we need to improve the security features. You can’t keep documents for 10 years without seeing decreased values in them, so we are improving the security features which would raise the standards of the passports,” the CG explained.

He added that the President also approved improved security features for the documents.

Babandede, however, disclosed that the new passports would cost more, but he did not reveal the new prices for the various categories of the passports.

He said, “President Buhari has equally approved 10-year validity for passports which is great news. When the report comes, passports will be valid for 10 years which is great news especially for adults from the age of 18 and above.”

“Though people will pay more, if they can pay more and get the booklets quickly, it’s good with improved security for 10 years validity. They would pay more but the document would be available, that’s good,” Babandede said.

The Nigerian Railways Corporation (NRC) said the Abuja-Kaduna train service has recorded approximately 900,000 passengers in two years.

The Manager of the train service, Mr Pascal Nnorli disclosed this yesterday at the two years anniversary celebration of the service at the Idu train station in Abuja.

“As at today when we checked, we saw that we have carried approximately 900,000 passengers in two years” he said.

He said the service has provided 600 direct jobs since inception.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on July 26, 2016, flagged off the commercial operations of the service.

Nnorli said “We have done well, based on the available infrastructure. Before 2016, we didn’t have any operational standard gauge railway in West Africa, this was the pioneer standard gauge operation in West Africa and here we are today carrying an average of 2000 passengers everyday to and from Abuja-Kaduna.”

He said e-ticketing will soon commence and access into the train terminal area would be electronically through the e-tickets.

“As a corporation, we are going further to make sure that we give people the best of rail service by introducing e-ticketing. The procurement process has started and we are in the next phase right now,” he said.

The Presiding priest at St Micheal Catholic Church Obajana. Reverend Father Leo Michael was Tuesday evening abducted at Irepeni village, Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A source also had it that a yet to be identified pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was abducted at the same spot and time, while on his way to Okene.

A Chemistry lecturer with the Kogi State College of Education (Technical) Kabba, Mr. Aronimu Samuel Babatunde was also said to have been kidnapped along the Okene-Kabba road.

According to Bishop Peter Adinoyi, the Diocesan Chancellor of Lokoja Diocese, the abductors emerged from the bushes near Irepeni village, close to a mounted roadblock, dragged down Fr. Micheal and one other person, believed to be a pastor with the RCCG and dashed back into the bush, leaving the two vehicles parked along the road.

The Bishop stated that the abductors have established contact with some members of the Church, adding that they have brought down the ransom from N50M to N8m, and threatening they ‘await the worst’ if their demand is not met before 1pm Thursday.

He noted that the DSS and the Army have swung into action to track down the perpetrators.

He lamented that abduction is mostly targeted at the poor, stressing that by now the insecurity of lives and property should have improved but is rather getting worse by the day.

He called on the government to quickly address the ugly situation.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) William Aya confirmed the abduction of the Catholic priest.

He however said that he was unaware of the kidnap of the two others.

Tech giant, Google will make available free Wi-Fi facilities in about 200 sites in Lagos and five other states in Nigeria between now and 2019.

Within this period, about 10 million Nigerians, including Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are expected to benefit immensely from this project. The other states are Kaduna; Port Harcourt (Rivers state); Ibadan (Oyo state); Enugu and Abuja.

The project, which comes as Google Station, is in partnership with 21st Century, a leading ISP in Nigeria. Four of the Stations, including Local Airport, Landmark; The Palms and Ikeja City Mall, went live on Wednesday.

Nigeria is the fifth country to launch Google Station, following India, Indonesia, Mexico and Thailand.


Google Station is a service that allows Google partners to roll out Wi-Fi hotspots in public places by providing software and advice on hardware to turn fibre connections into Wi-Fi.

Speaking with The Guardian and some five other select media houses on Wednesday, in Lagos, Google’s Vice-President, Product Management, Anjali Joshi, said the service, which is targeted primarily at countries, where the next-billion Internet users are set to come from, aimed to give users fast, secure, and easy-to-use Wi-Fi experience.

Joshi explained that in order to provide the service, Google offered fibre carriers, the companies, which build software for Internet-connected hardware, and venues a cloud-based platform and devices, which make it easier for them to provide, manage and monetise the Station hotspots.

She disclosed that the initiative is a long term project and that the security aspect has been fortified and encrypted to guard against any breaches.

Joshi said Google was doing this because the Internet has the potential to completely transform Africa. “Across the globe, countries which have invested in nurturing digital and innovation-based cultures not only enjoy extraordinary wealth (and job creation), but have also transformed the way people live and do business. That positive change can only happen, however, if everyone can access the Internet,” she stressed.

Speaking in the same vein, Google’s Country Director, Nigeria, Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, who said the move was to ensure that more Nigerians participate in the digital economy, noted that the technology firm hoped to roll out Station to as many public locations as possible, including markets, malls, bus stops, city centres, and cafés, universities so that people can have a consistent Wi-Fi experience during their daily routines.

On the choice of Nigeria now, Ehimuan-Chiazor said the country is an important market for Google and the largest market in Africa, saying that the target was to develop the technology ecosystem and later scaled to other part of Africa.

Silent on the amount gone into the investments, she disclosed that the initiative was targeted at a populated area, with the hope that by 2019 about 10 million Nigerians must have benefitted.

According to her, there are huge possibilities of the initiative helping the country to leapfrog the 30 per cent broadband target set by the Federal Government for this year, “knowing full well that a World Bank report claimed that there is direct correlation between broadband and GDP growth. That is a 10 per cent increase in broadband correlates to 1.38 per cent increase in GDP growth.

“Even beyond GDP growth, the Internet provides opportunities to pursue social and developmental objectives. So we expect this to fuel some changes, especially in creating jobs, helping the SMEs, among others.

“We have believed since the very beginning of Google that when more people have better, more dependable and secure access to the Internet, everyone in the entire Internet ecosystem benefits. Google Station will work to this mission by bringing more people fast, reliable, quality Wi-Fi to more places.”

Senator Lanre Tejuoso, the Senator representing Ogun Central in the Red Chamber has denounced reports stating he joined the PDP.

On his Facebook page, less than an hour ago, he wrote “I remain a member of the All progressives Congress (APC) ”

The seemingly confused Senator wrote on his official Facebook page, on 24th July that he left the APC ...following issues he had with the leadership of the party in Ogun State.

He said “My disappointment is with the party at the state level where I, for reasons I am yet to ascertain, have been marginalized from party activities. My relationship with the state party leadership became severed all of a sudden as leaders became wary of associating with me. There is no form of communication between party leaders and myself.”

In a latest report released by the Senator himself, he had again flown his support for the All progressives that he remains a member of the Party.

The Senator, who was shortlisted amongst the lawmakers that decamped to PDP on Tuesday has come out clearly that he never did, he said he was making consultations on which tunnel to turn into. But now, he has finally dashed back to the Party.

An accusation has been made against some operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) after allegedly extorting two men of N200,000. According to Mayor Chikwe who shared the news, the man were stopped by the SARS officers after boarding a cab in Imo state and were taken to the bush where they were allegedly threatened before the coughed out the huge sum.

Yesterday, a business friend sent me this image after I didn't hear from him for almost a whole day which was unusual going by the standard of our business frequencies. I called him immediately to confirm what the matter was and he narrated his ordeal in the hands of F-SARS to me. Note, f-SARS is supposed to mean federal SARS but today I am choosing to interpret it as fake-SARS.

He and his friend chatted a cab from Mbaise or so, and on their way, the SARS officers stopped them and asked them to alight, probably because they were looking fresh, I wouldn't know really.

Immediately, they instituted a case against them threatening to take them to EFCC office, safe they comply to their demands. My friend and his friend asked to be taken to the police station if that be the case, but for where,? the SARS guys refused threatening them with EFCC.

Along the line they asked them to enter the police van and drove them off into a bush in an unknown location, offloaded them and began to intimidate them. They outrightly demanded for #1.2m from my friend and his friend and threatened to waste them in that bush if they failed to comply. Out of fear, My friend bargained and dragged the price down to 200k and the SARS guys finally agreed. (This is the second person known to me SARS has extorted 200k from within the last one month).

The SARS guys took them to ATM and they withdrew from the cash and gave them at hand. The first person SARS once harassed called me asking for help to transfer 200k to the SARS guys to release him so he can continue his east bound journey from Lagos. He gave me the SARS guy's account number and I paid directly into it. If I was that guy I will make sure those SARS guys pay with their life after extorting me in that manner.

Anyway, I asked my friend why they even obliged to pay 200k insisting it was too much. My friend told me that the bush they were taken to, they don't even know where they were and secondly the fear emanating from similar stories he had heard in the past especially where those SARS guys even maime their victims or took some five guys to sell to one politician for 5m each, weakened him and heightened the fear in him, inducing his compliance to their outrageous demand.

The federal government must find a permanent solution to the SARS menace because more often than not, they are the Armed robbers on our high ways.

Giwa, according to prosecuting counsel, Ehizoba Godspower, committed the offence in September 2017. He said she stole three bags containing clothes valued at N200,000; 30 pieces of shoes, N150,000; jewelries, N100,000; make-up kit, N50,000 and three pieces of human hair wigs, N250,000.
Others included eye glasses valued N20,000, one phone valued N100,000 and N48,000, totalling N918,000; properties of Chioma Daniels.
Godspower said: “The defendant deliberately drugged the complainant to enable her steal her money and properties,” adding that the offence is punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Giwa pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The complainant had narrated how she was drugged by her friend to the Police.
Daniels said: “A friend of mine introduced the suspect to me in March 2017 at a fast food outlet in Lekki, and begged me to allow the suspect to live with me, pending when she would be able to raise money to rent accommodation.
“I lived with the suspect from March till September 2017, when I told her to prepare tea for both of us to drink.
“After I drank the tea, I slept from 7a.m. and woke up 10p.m., only to discover that the suspect had stolen all my properties and money and escaped.
“I later sighted her at Lekki in June this year and raised the alarm, which attracted people who assisted me to apprehend her and dragged her to the police station.”
Magistrate M. F. Onanusi granted Giwa N200,000 bail, with one surety in like sum, adjourned the case till August 1 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at Kirikiri Prisons, pending when she is able to perfect her bail conditions.

Minister of Transport and Campaign DG for the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization, Rotimi Amaechi has denied reports that he accused the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomole of bringing bad luck to the party.

Amaechi debunked the report in a statement through the office’s Director, Strategic Communications, Festus Keyamo, yesterday, describing the story as ‘fake news.’

"For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state without equivocation that Rt. Honourable Rotimi Amaechi did not at any forum, whether in private or public, utter such words or anything close to those words in reference to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. He holds Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in the highest esteem possible," he said.

A serving corp member deployed to Jos Plateau State, an indigene of Benue - was shot dead in Okpo Olamaboro local government area of Kogi State, early this morning 25th July, 2018.

According to police investigation, the deceased was ALLEGED to be among three armed men who robbed a Highlander Jeep and some money from a man whose identity is still unknown in Otukpo, Benue state.

APC national chairman Comrade Oshiomhole was at the Presidential Villa, to see the President after the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the Council Chamber.

Presidency sources revealed that President Buhari was not happy with the comment by his party’s national chairman where he said that if the President was condoning indiscipline from his cabinet he was not going to condone it.

“The President was not happy with the comment of the APC Chairman because it portrayed the President as inefficient,” the Presidency source had said.

While berating the Labour Minister for not carrying out his directive that he (Ngige) should inaugurate the board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, Oshiomhole said, “If the minister refuses we will suspend him from the party. You know we must return to internal discipline.

“For me it is the height of mischief for any minister, you cannot purport to be honourable minister and you act dishonourably and nobody is greater than the party. “And if the President condones disrespect for his office, I will not condone disrespect for the party.

And when we expel the minister we will prevail on the president that he can’t keep in his cabinet people who have neither respect for his own decisions nor have respect for the party.”

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is said to have masterminded the siege to the homes of Bukola Saraki, Senate President and Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate President on Tuesday.

A key member of the Reformed APC (R-APC), who spoke with our correspondent on Wednesday, said Oshiomhole in his bid to facilitate the impeachment of Saraki and Ekweremadu and prevent a possible defection of lawmakers from the APC used his influence as the national chairman of the party to order the police to barricade Saraki and Ekweremadu’s homes in order to prevent them from getting to the National Assembly.

He, however, said Saraki who has some informants in the police got wind of the plot a day before (Monday) and he, alongside some key PDP leaders, which include a prominent governor from the South-South perfected plans for him not to sleep in his Lake Chad junction, Maitama residence and also assisted him in gaining entrance to the National Assembly on Tuesday, thus thwarting the impeachment plot.

“I am a key member of R-APC and I know what is going on. Oshiomhole, the disputed national chairman of APC masterminded the plot. I am very sure President Buhari is not even aware of the development.

“Having failed in his bid to persuade the warring senators to sheathe their sword, Oshiomhole, in his characteristic combative manner as a former labour leader used his influence to get the security agents to mastermind the siege to the homes of Saraki and Ekweremadu. I wonder why the police is denying that no siege ever took place even when it is recorded and shown live on national television.

But for some key informants who revealed the plot to Saraki, he would have been impeached by now”, he said.

Already, the Nigeria Police Force has denied sending a detachment of its men to the residence of Bukola Saraki, the Senate President.

A detachment of security operatives had blocked Saraki’s convoy at his Apo residence with a view to preventing it from leaving the house. But he then announced that the residence of Ike Ekweremadu, his deputy, had also been besieged by men of the police and Department of State Services (DSS).

The police also denied its officers cordoned off the resident of the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu in an attempt to arrest him.

In a statement on Tuesday, police spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, also insisted that “the force wishes to categorically state that there was no authorised deployment of police personnel to besiege the residence of the Senate President or his deputy as reported in the media.

Video footage of a Police officer punching a civilian for trying to remove an APC flag from the Vehicle of a governor has emerged.

PoliticsNGR learned that in Benue state on Tuesday, a police officer attached to the security detail of state governor, Samuel Ortom, punched a protester trying to remove a flag of the All Progressives Congress from the Governor's jeep. This occurred as Benue youths numbering over 300 stopped the governor from meeting APC members at National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja.

While the man was trying to remove the APC flag, a police officer was seen trying to stop him but he continued dragging the flag. This prompted the police officer to punch him as he wanted to descend on him but was restrained by his colleagues.

A few hours after this encounter, Ortom decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
