Accountants and finance professionals, please ensure you learn advanced excel before coming in. I mean pivot tables, recording macros, VBA, vlookup, sumifs etc. It will help you in your job hunt. You can spice it up by learning powerpoint too as you can be called to do presentations at short notice. You can also visit indeed.ca to have an idea of the requirements for the career you want to pursue.

Also consider financial analyst role as you can never get it wrong with this role. If you type in financial analyst role in GTA in indeed, you will see that job berekete here. The question is Do you have the skills? All you need is experience in advanced excel where you use the tools to perform variance analysis (actual vs budgeted) with pivot charts, budgeting, monthend activities and presentation skills. You may also need experience in an ERP like SAP, ORACLE, JEDWARDS and co. I tell you they are ready to waive that Canadian experience if you have the skills. I have seen it happen for people.

There are so many free tutorials on excel and powerpoint on youtube and these videos come with materials you can practice with. udemy.com also has very cheap training on financial analysis. Some banks in Naija call this role performance management. We have performed most of these roles but with different titles/names.

Some keywords you can add to your resume are balanced scorecards, flash reports (just before month end variance analysis) and dashboard (after month end variance analysis) Monthly business review (MBR) process improvement and automation (excel helps you do both)etc.

Prepare very well before coming here and you will not waste time in the labour market.

Ok bye.

This is not for or against anyone, but please maintain this energy when it's time to contribute

A million hugs. Some will even open new accounts and call their friends to join in the fight.

I repeat, maternal is like that. I have had my fights with him as well. I was just giving you heads up that you need not go into fight with him and some went to study my profile like they want to write exams with what i have posted in time past.

Nowadays i like to walk away and that's why i warned ahead. Abeg go face maternal and not me. No response fron me on this issue again. I walk away. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Am going to reply for the sake of others that needed help and come online to share part of their story so they not discourage by comment like urs

My daughter is physically challenged from birth but i will not like to go into details of her disability but sometime last year , my wife came up with the idea of going to Canada ,the first thing that come to mind is how disable people are well accepted in Canada society ,they can school , go on bus and many public places have facilities for disable people, hearing that alone bring relieve and joy to my heart because we have visit France, Dubai,Holland, hong kong ,uk and usa on family holiday and I have seen how disable people are well integrated into this societies despite there physical challenges..and i remember my wife telling me then that she will handle everything and only we have to travel with about 27,000 dollars and i remember i told her ,we have 10 million naira fixed deposit at the bank so i can get that within 2 weeks and i convert it to dollars and that about 34k canada dollars so tell them if they want 27k if they grant us resident we coming with minimum 30k dollars and my wife simile and left for work that morning , and like 2 weeks later she told me about English examination she need to attend and it not compulsory for me because she the main applicant with about 5 years of experience and two cert holder from same university and about our certificate verification it was fast and easy I guess because we studied aboard but i never attended any English examination and later she told me we have been accepted on a score I cannot remember the score and now needed to do medical examination and we went for the medical test and a month later she ask I printed my fixed deposit bank statement, company registration and she draft a letter and I read it and sign that the fund is for the family and that all l know about this Canada process and two month later she told me some more document was ask about my daughter issue and she has taken care of that and send the needed document and One morning last month that about 5 month later ,she told me our Residency have been granted ,I was so surprise because it look so easy and fast to me but our daughter comfort and integration in a society is my motivation factor from the beginning . It was after the visa granted that other thought begin to come to my mind. So please do not judge anybody because you do not know the whole story but give your advice based on what you know and it will help . and thank you to everybody that have contributed to my question it highly appreciated

A hug to you and your family. She will be better off here in Canada.

Everyone claims they're a hustler until it's time to hustle.

1. You benefit from this move as much as your children

2. Find out what interests you then map out a plan on how to achieve it in Canada. Right now your braining is running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.

You need to go back to part 1 to understand Maternal. Ignore his insults and pick his advice. He is like that. If you like form a group against him, he is not moved. That is just him.

For newly landed and people that are underemployed. People within low income bracket. There are food banks around that supply families with groceries that can last for 10 days in a month.

This will reduce the grocery pressure on your proof of fund and it has nothing to do with welfare. It is purely food bank.

Google for the one near you and give them a call to get their requirements. Thereafter go there once a month and get some groceries for your family.

You are expected to stop when your situation improves.

A friend of mine got sponsored by his church in UK for a Tier 2 work visa. All he is doing is to play keyboard for them and he sometimes play at party and tungba places

I have a choir member in my naija church that got his UK visa via that means too.

But you and i know that you have to convince this people here that you have advertised for a position for 1 month and couldn't get anybody to fill the space before you can bring in someone to fill the space.

Moreover is it not here we learnt Nigerians are not qualified for work permit? Anyone that raises work permit issue here is always told that he is about to be defrauded or has it changed now? The much i know is that Nigerians are only qualified for work permit after graduating from school here.

Abeg i no get strength argue. There is no harm in trying. It may work for you.

On a serious note, why not look for a skilled trade to use to migrate if skilled worker's stream did not work for you.

I am having headache from the good laugh i had that i will not be able to post anymore on this issue.

Please tax experts what are the implications of not reporting your rent as expenses in your tax returns? Is there any on the tenant? I mean can the law catch up with you? I know for landlords, it is tax evasion and it is a crime but i dont know the full implications on tenants.

Urgent response is appreciated.

As per the scope of sex/gender (LGBTQ stuffs) and whatever people believe in, It's all about personal choice, aslong as homophobia is taken out of the equation. I have had two gay managers, and they were not different at work from the straight managers I have had. There are kids in my son's class (grade 1) who think that they are girls when they are actually boys - bobrisky levels, and this is at a catholic school. All the kids in his class between age 5 & 6 have all learnt to mind their own business and respect the wishes of others. Just as theCongo mentioned, It's all about mutual respect. Live and let live.

Even your mental health status is respected here. I have heard 2 colleagues discuss their mental disorder status and people are like you are such a wonderful person. In my mind am like e he? It's okay here to be AD.... and all what not.

I am sorry to say it is not only Nigerians that feel inferior with whites. My former landlady (a Jamaican)who has been in this country for more than 35 years gets jittery when she sees whites. I am like, so she has different treatment for people based on their colour. In my workplace too, one of my ogas from Barbados does the same. A colleague from Jamaica was now telling me that it is because she is from Barbados. That jamaicans don't do that. I just smiled at her as i didn't want to waste my time sharing my experience with my jamaican landlady.

My conclusion is that some blacks feel inferior because of their colour. They make up for being black by giving preferential treatments to the whites. I wish i can share my experience in my workplace here now but time is not ripe for it yet. It is not peculiar to Nigerians and once i notice you treat people differently based on their colour, you will not see me near you.

Good day seniors,

just a quick one.
Should I buy a private health insurance before landing in Ontario? If yes, where can I buy?
If no, how do I go about the health insurance stuff in Ontario for the first 3 months?

kindly assist with answers .
thank you.

I don't know about health insurance. I didn't purchase one before i came because i thought that since i hadly fall sick, i will not be needing one. Unfortunately for me some days to my health card being due, i fell sick. I went to a nearby shoppers drugmart for flushot, they asked for my health card which i hadn't received. I just got some drugs and went home. I ended up not taking those drugs though.

Some things i have learnt the hard way because no one got to share them here.

Please as the year is almost rounding up, ignore any landlord that will want to talk you into not reporting your rent as your expense just because he or she does not want to pay income tax.

Keep your tax report straight. Moreover you may even shortchange yourself by not reporting that expense.

This would happen if you earn a really huge salary in Nigeria. Otherwise, when converted to CAD, you'd likely not have any difference to pay as your earnings would most likely be in the lower income tax bracket.

Yeah. I forgot to add that clause. Infact i got the Ontario trillium tax credit 2017 on that basis.
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by czaratwork: 1:29pm On Dec 25, 2018
Is the rate applied in naija tax higher? If yes then you are good but if not then the difference must be paid in Canada. This is my basic understanding of mutual agreement between countries on taxation.

She was literally almost getting into a fight with a driver ? Do you understand what that means ? What kind of woman goes on such a shameful display ?
The rage, the temper ? Well I understand some people might think nothing of that but me I dont consider strength to be the ability to fight or become irate, its the ability to remain calm in the face of provocation.

My consideration was for the greater good and thats what a man does, think about safety and make better judgements. What if in her bid to argue her case the man injured her or something ?
Dont just be unnecessarily subjective here, this isn't so blurred is it ?

These should have been your main reasons of backing out and not her claiming equality with you. You caused what came upon you here.
You may still need to get a wife from Niaja because that one sure pass.

And to add to my 2 cents making it 3 cents. What works for couple A may not work for couple B. If the woman is earning way higher would you because of headship ask her to resign and be doing school runs just to show your male ego? Both of you have to sit down and have a discussion of your goals in Canada and how to achieve them. At some point its one party making the sacrifice at another point it's the other party. Once there is love and trust, other things fall in naturally.

If you are in Nigeria and not yet in Canada and contributing to this headship and authority in marriage please wait until you land here and face the moment of truth. Nobody will tell you that you need to plan how to make your marriage work here. If you carry on with that headship mentality, it's just a matter of time before it happens. I have seen a man feeding a baby in a pram here all by himself. Such a thing would not happen in Nigeria, shame no go even gree the man.

I understand guitarlife's viewpoint that his babe is claiming equality in Naija and his fears that with all the privileges women have here, he may be the houseboy when they move to Canada but your assumptions may be wrong. She could turn out to be the best. There is no thing as good as looking at the reality and considering the options to make it work best for 2 of you. My 2 cents.
