360metrosports:
The proposed plan of Nigerian's labour unions to cripple economic activities starting Wednesday over a recent fuel hike, has suffered a major setback.

According to a report , there is confusion among the ranks of the unions. It's believed that its planned strike may be scuttled by its affiliates as well as civil society organisations in the country.

Some of the unions say they can't be coerced into the activity by the NLC and the TUC.

“Let it be known that Movement Against Corruption and Injustice (MACI) in all our state branches will not join state labour union to participate in the protest without official invitation to any meeting where strategies and line of action would be discussed," Bankole Solomon, a major stakeholder, said.

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), which is an umbrella body for private-sector workers, as well as the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) have also said they would not participate in the strike.

In addition, the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), and other organizations are pilling pressure on the unions not to go ahead with the proposed strike.

NLC announced its decision to "Occupy Nigeria" after the federal government hiked the pump price of petrol to N145 per litre last week.

You seem to be analysing the immediate effects of the subsidy removal.

The long term effect of the subsidy removal is an advantage to the country as the money would be invested in some other sector and developments.

It seems you haven't queued for fuel in the past couple of weeks. The marketers we pay subsidy to are not delivering and the rate of fuel at filling stations run as high as 300 naira per litre if not more.

The suffering in this country is surplus but one can obviously know what the outcome of the strike could be which is either the government ignores the NLC or reduce the fuel rate to 100 naira + which was their initial target.

I never said I'm comfortable with the increase, but I won't tolerate marketers taking free money from the government while the citizens are suffering.
........... I am not sure if you really get what has happened, the fuel price was hiked as a result of a couple policy summer aunts not necessarily fuel subsidy removal. Because if I can quote fg right, they only subsidized 12 naira of pms, so if that is the case then adding 12 naira to 86.50 should not give us n145, so something is wrong, secondly, the long run you talk about will only favour those that can actually survive the present unbearable short run!

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Would Have Collapsed If Jonathan Had Defeated Buhari In 2015 – Sagay by dadexcel: 1:05pm On May 06, 2016
DONSMITH123:
Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on War Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Thursday declared that Nigeria would have completely collapsed like Zimbabwe had former President Goodluck Jonathan won the 2015 presidential election.
The radical lawyer while expressing his disappointment at the level of corruption that reigned during the administration of Jonathan, said by now the country would have been under the yoke of ferocious economic disaster if the President Muhammadu Buhari administration had not emerged.

Sagay made this stand in Abuja at the anti-corruption summit organized by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa, in conjunction with ONE Africa to brainstorm on issues ahead of the May 12 global anti-corruption summit in London.

While lamenting that corruption was fighting back in Nigeria very vigorously to frustrate the current anti-corruption war of the Buhari administration, he disclosed that those fighting back were corrupt Nigerians with huge war chest at their disposal.

Sagay said: “Given the unrestrained stealing and the enormous economic pillage under the Jonathan administration, it is not a surprise that the Nigerian economy is lying prostrate. The present administration needs time to fill in the big holes that were left by the previous administration.

“It is, therefore, irrational for anybody with perverse mentality to say that they should bring back corruption. The truth is if Jonathan had won the 2015 election, by now Nigeria would have completely become a failed state like Zimbabwe with huge inflation rate of N10 billion, or probably all of us would have to carry our little belongings to seek refuge in neighbouring countries.

“Nigeria would have witnessed a ferocious economic disaster if the Buhari administration had not emerged. All that is going on now is the rebuilding process of the economy that was so destroyed by the previous administration. Those praying for the return of Jonathan should thank God for not answering their prayers because it would have been a terrible nightmare.

“We must be patient and rational in our thinking for the inevitable change of the Buhari administration to come. It will surely come, but it is not a magic wand.”

Road rehabilitation, power supply, clean water, and other social infrastructures are all outright benefit of the people of a state in this social contract called democracy and not the duty of anybody either individual or corporate to be enslaved or enforced to either specially pay or contribute for the provision of any of these amenities not even in this era of heavy tax in a state that virtually everybody live on salary out of which none has been paid in the 4 months spent so far in this year.
People wrongly singing the praises of any one doing this is not my problem but the concern arises when some people are forced to pay for this and someone else is taking the glory, the heavy tax paid in the first quarter of this year has thrown many into loss in the first quarter while some have decided to close shop there by increasing the cases of unemployment and crime in our society, the very few who could still source for fund from outside the state to sustain their living are denied access to their bank not because the road is under construction but because the Banks have been mandated to contribute 5M each to the construction that the media claim the state government is doing, some of these banks have not declared profit this year and the job of their staff in all categories is on the line, so most of the bank cant afford to add another 5M to the over 2M that has been paid as tax already and the warlord ordered the bulldozing of the entrance culvert of these banks and still counting.
The vote for a democratic leader should be a vote for freedom and social justice not a vote for hardship but since that is what the people chose with their thumbs....
GTB, Eco Bank... on the bank road are victims already while others have been billed for the tomorrow and weekend, I just keep wondering what the fate of corporate businesses is in the state.
Late last year when the state celebrated the almost the best Teachers' Day in the country, these same bank foot the bill from the teachers uniform to the cars presented to the media coverage, just name it, these same banks closed their year with the heavy debit throwing their account to debit and loss, early in the month, some of the banks were locked for no just reason, schools were shut for undue tax and now entrance to banks are been bulldozed and nobody is saying anything.
Just a pity that the known fountain of knowledge is turning to fountain of nonsense and land of honour to land of hoodlums, but I want the concerned warlords and his supporters to know that the whole world is watching with keen interest .

Nigerians Blast Fayose For Saying "Send Buahri Back To Daura Or Expect More Blunders"

Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has been known to be critical about the APC government most especially Mr. President himself and he has also been know as the only outspoken governor Nigeria has ever produced apart from the then governor of Abia State, Orji Uzo Kalu.

So many people have called for the head of Fayose basically because of his criticism to the present government and his recent jibes against the $2b loan Chinese government has agreed to give Nigeria. He took it a step further to write the Chinese government expressing reason not to grant Nigeria the loan deal.

Many of his supporters supported him as usual and yet many Nigerians view his acts as treasonable offense to this country and hence calling the federal government to prosecute him as they compared his actions to that of Pro-Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Mr. Fayose has also congratulated the US government for seeing through Mr. President's purported corruption hunt for being a witch hunt.

The latest in the news now is Fayose's tweet about Mr. President. Is he taken it too far? See his tweets and peoples reactions below....

BusinessRe: Economy: Buhari Is On Right Path – Dangote by dadexcel: 3:15pm On Apr 12, 2016
hmuhammad:
President and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said yesterday that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was on the right path in the diversification of the nation’s economy.

His assertion followed new policies implemented through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment as well as Ministry for Solid Mineral Development.

Dangote spoke at the ground-breaking ceremony of Okpella cement financed by his group.

He hailed efforts of the President in revitalising the solid mineral sector, noting that the sector could provide employment and improve non-oil revenue.

Dangote noted that the new plant could transform the economy of Okpella and Edo State.

Dangote said investment in local cement plants saved Nigeria $3 billion spent on importing cement.

He urged the private sector to invest in critical areas of the economy since the Federal Government has expressed readiness to resuscitate the industrial sector.

Dangote said he would always invest in Nigeria, adding that Nigeria remains the best place to invest in the world.

He said: “While others are sitting and waiting, the Dangote Group is thinking ahead by investing in additional cement capacities in Okpella in Edo State and Itori in Ogun State. We have also invested in a 100MW Power Generation Plant for Itori and Okpella.

“A key factor that drives investments in an economy is the presence of an investor-friendly business climate. Indeed, Edo State is one of the most attractive investment destinations in Nigeria.

“The economic reforms in Edo State, especially in tax, innovations in rural finance and investment on infrastructure, have produced an enabling environment that has further provided a platform for future growth. These factors encouraged us to consider Edo State as the right destination for this investment.

“By this investment, Dangote is increasing its production capacity, thus maintaining its leadership in the industry. The Okpella six million capacity plant will take our local capacity to 35m mtpa, and with the coming on stream of the 6m mtpa plant at Itori in Ogun State, our local capacity will go up to 41m mtpa.”

The project, he added, “is only one of our several successful projects in parts of the country and outside in more than 15 other locations in African countries, in line with our Pan African investment strategy”.

Edo State Governor Adams Governor said his administration has created enabling environments for businesses to strive in the state.

However, impressed at the continuous investments in cement production despite having met local demands, the Federal Government said the gains of backward integration in the cement sector, as championed by the Dangote Group, is saving the nation billions of foreign exchange.

Minister of Solid Mineral Development Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his counterpart in Trade and investments, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, said government was pleased with Dangote Cement in ensuring that the nation frees itself from endless importation and becoming net exporter.

This said tallied with the change agenda of the Buhari government to substitute importation with local production and consume only products produced locally.

They said the volatility in the international oil market and the excessive dependent on importation have put pressure on the naira, adding that the government would free the naira from such pressure.

Fayemi said the Federal Government would meet with the 36 governors to simplify access to land by investors in solid minerals.

He said continuous investment in the mining sector would earn the nation $25 billion annually by 2025.

The $1 billion cement plant has the capacity to hire 6,000 new jobs.

The new six million metric tonnes per annum capacity cement plant is coming on the heels of similar arrangements in Itori and Ibeshe, Ogun, with 12 million metric cement in combined capacity.

By this investment, Dangote cement’s production capacity will increase to 41metric tonnes per annum in Nigeria alone.

A pensioner, Mrs. Rose Arabameh Julius, has donated her monthly pension of Ten thousand naira (N10,000) to support the Buhari administration’s war against corruption.

Mrs. Julius, who retired as a cleaner from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, also promised to contribute N1,000 every month out of her pension towards the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons.

She said that she was making the donation because she was convinced that President Muhammadu Buhari is a tested man of integrity who can be trusted to restore the lost glory of Nigeria and drastically curb corruption in the country.

According to a statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye on behalf of the Special Adviser to the President Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, the pensioner also commended the President’s efforts to end the Boko Haram insurgency and rehabilitate internally displaced persons.

Receiving the donation on behalf of President Buhari, the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Mr. Femi Adesina thanked Mrs. Julius for her faith in the Buhari administration.

“We have a pact with Nigerians to change things for the better and we are on the right track. President Buhari and his team are working tirelessly to revamp the economy, combat terrorism and curb corruption,” Adesina said.
