Politics / Re: Aisha’s BBC Interview – She Got It All Wrong, My Respect For PMB Just Soars by dami212: 1:19pm On Oct 16, 2016
PassingShot:
We’ve all been inundated by the interview granted BBC by the president’s wife which revealed personal and political happenings within the household of the Buharis. In response to the interview, we’ve also heard the president remark that his wife belongs in his kitchen and other rooms in his house. Without mincing words, I make bold to say that the president’s wife has lost much of the respect she used to command by her act and has made a bad situation far worse. On the other hand, the revelation has made my love for the president to increase.

Prior to the election of March 2015, GMB, as he was known then, made unambiguous statement on several occasions that “there won’t be an Office of the First Lady” if he became president. Majority of Nigerians applauded the statement on the strength of what past First Ladies had caused the country. We know of First Ladies who practically ordered appointed ministers around. We saw a First Lady embarrass a sitting governor. We saw many First Ladies having their own multitude of staff. The past First Ladies used to have budget drawn out for their office even though the Constitution of Nigeria has no recognition for such. These are only a few of many anomalies that were done in the name of Office of the First Lady. So, when PMB made the statement then, he clearly wanted to depart from that culture of impunity and Nigerians loved him for it.

In the said interview, Aisha clearly expressed frustrations at not having undue influence on the man appointed by Nigerians to do a job. She obviously is not having enough say on how ministers, DGs and other top government officials are appointed and this has disappointment her a great deal. Just like the Lagos Assembly shamelessly revealed their frustration about PMB not consulting with Tinubu on appointments, Aisha thought it right to express similar frustration but in the worst possible manner.

Let's Examine Key Statements of Her Interview:
1. "The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don't know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years."

This clearly shows Aisha’s disposition to have undue influence on appointments. If not, why does the president need to know those who work for him or the country? What is important is those people’s qualifications and ability to do the job. Why should the appointees be known to Aisha on the strength of being the president’s wife of 27 years? This statement by the president’s wife reveals a lot about why/how the past First Ladies and their husbands appointed incompetent political jobbers to positions.

2. "Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position."

If anything, this is a positive on the part of the president. This simply means “no one needs to lobby for an appointment under Buhari once they’re qualified to do the job”. Won’t any reasonable being love the man?

3. "He is yet to tell me but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again."

This is about the most ridiculous of all her statements! It smells arrogance and pompousness. Who makes who? Who is known in the political arena? It is because of Muhammadu Buhari that we got to know Aisha Buhari. It is Muhammadu Buhari that’s the politician and not Aisha Buhari. Buhari won the last election not because his Aisha was on the campaign train even though she might have swayed a few voters. In fact, report had it that PMB was reluctant to allow Aisha join the campaign train but for Tinubu’s intervention. So, it is overestimation of her contribution to her husband’s success at the polls to make this statement because she has no political structure or clout to wield such influence.

As I said earlier, PMB by this development has earned further respect from me and many like me. He has proved over and over that he cannot be dictated to whether you are a Tinubu, Obasanjo or even the person who many would have thought could be used to get him – Aisha his wife and mother of four of his children. PMB has once again proved to be a man of principle and high moral standards! This is the kind of leader Nigeria needs to get out of the mess bestowed on us by undue interference from those close to past presidents.

PMB’s “Aisha Belongs to My Kitchen” Comment
As unnecessary as the response from the president might seem, one has to put himself in a position of a man, the president of the most populous black nation on earth, whose wife has become rebellious and a political foe (frenemy sort of) ready to crash the castle built over many years. I must even commend him for finding the strength to beam with laughter when answering question on his wife’s interview.
The president’s comment at that time couldn’t have been better worded to a wife who behaved with arrogance and insubordination. To make it clear to the bigots and hypocrites, a wife’s primary place is in the kitchen and her husband’s home. Any and every other duty is secondary to that.

Yes, our wives are educated, work and participate in governance and Aisha Buhari’s case is no different as she’s known to have been educated by the same man she’s trying hard to destroy now. We all know Aisha had a beauty salon/spa and a few other businesses before PMB became president. PMB has appointed a few women into high position in his administration. We also know that his daughters are educated. Clearly, all these are a proof that the president is not someone who does not believe in women’s ability to be equal to that of men in every aspect of life.
However, if a woman thinks she has a right to have undue and unwanted influence in a man’s job/life, there is nothing wrong in putting such women where they primarily belong - the kitchen and other rooms.

What Aisha did is capable of ruining her marriage and she will be the ultimate loser at the end of it. If that happens, all those urging her on will not be there to console her or offer any help. I could have asked her to ask PMB’s first wife (Safinatu of blessed memory) if she regretted accepting money from IBB who was holding her husband in a cell. Surely, she must have regretted her action one way or the other.
I oboi u b really MUMU? Woman wey dey f.ck d man don com out criticize him govt. she has a lot to lose and gain. Politics / Re: Onne Sea Port by dami212: 5:01am On Jan 19, 2016
sweetgala:

It is not politics and the government beyond creating a favourable environment, by making clearing charges and conditions more attractive in onne can not force private owned vessels to dock at oone if Lagos remains favourable.

There are several reasons and I'll expand on them

1- Reliability and history

For many years this vessels which trade and call at the Nigerian port have docked in Lagos, the captain understand the area from a seafaring perspective. They've always gone to Lagos and have a planned route which may involve visiting multiple ports along West Africa. Ships are not planes they take weeks to cross the ocean. There is no reaon a ship can not dock at onne and then process to Lagos

2 - Safety

PH is the Capital of kidnapping in Nigeria, it is also in proximity to the MEND and ND vandalism and piracy. Why would a ship
ladden with goods worth millions of dollars go near such a port, some of these foreign owned and registered ships are not even insured to go near onne.

It is up to the PH SG and governors forum of that GP zone to resolve the security issues for their own benefit. You can't blame a bunch of Yoruba people in Lagos for the actions of PH and ND citiEnrry and it's effect.

3 - Demand

Lagos remains the centre of commerce and trade on Nigeria, and it is used and accessed by all Nigerians, some 50% of imported consumer goods on those ships belong to people from SE, these same people can bring the goods through onne but they'd rather land their goods safely in Lagos ths risk it being hijacked in PH.

Lagos is more central and accessible to.other parts of Nigeria than PH , if the second Niger bridge is built this may equalise things a little.

Govenemt can not force the concept of demand to change, it can only alter it's supply of said demand to encourage individuals to use alternatives

There are other reasons but those are simple immediate ones
U ve not said anything at all. That ur safety or insecurity as an excuse is really funny. Which part of Nigeria that is safe. Y not tell shell, cheveron, Agip, NNPC and other oil companies to leave our offshore becos of insecurity. You yorubas are just too greedy and self centred, I ve always believe that u guys are d major problem of Nigeria. U shout one Nigeria wen things are favourable at ur end.

Members of the Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, on Friday, December 25, invaded Kimba, a pastoral community in Borno state killing 14 people and leaving dozens injured.

According to Sahara Reporters, two members of a local vigilante group in the community said the insurgents rode into the town on bicycles since Kimba, which is in Biu local government area, is remote.

He said the attackers sneaked into the town at dusk and began their killing spree.

Mohammed Aliyu, a vigilante member said: “They killed 11 people and injured many more people and set the whole village ablaze.”

Another member of the vigilante group, Isa Biu said: “The attackers rode on bicycles to invade Kimba. They had guns and they just opened fire on villagers.”

However, speaking to AFP, Mustapha Karimbe, a civilian assisting the military in fighting Boko Haram, said the number of casulaties is at least 14.

Kimba is about to 22 miles from Biu town, the biggest town in the southern part of Borno state.

According to Daily Post the insurgents killed 13 people and abducted eight others, at about 8.30pm. It was said to be the sixth attack in the area recently.

Umar Sani, a resident who spoke to Daily Post on the phone said: “They burnt down our houses, killed our brothers and abducted our children. We are close to Sabon Gari and there are military there at Sabon Gari but they could not come to our rescue. Many people have been wounded. About 17 are currently being treated in Biu. We have lost 13 people and they took eight with them.”

007truthbetold: Alleged Associates Of Senator Sekibo And Evans Bipi Arrested With Arms; Both Are Close Associates Of First Lady Patience Jonathan

The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) yesterday in Rivers State arrested six youths bearing seven AK47 rifles around Ekporo Road on their way to Ogu.

Among them was Daniel Ibito-Anga, who parades himself and is known in Ogu Bolo as Security Adviser/PA to Senator George Sekibo (Rivers East Senatorial zone) and Evans Bipi, the Rivers State Assemblyman who was recently stopped by a court from parading himself as the Speaker of the Assembly.

Others arrested gave their names as Sunday Elisha, Uche Jenikachi, Ibinabo Lawson, and Okechukwu Okoro.

In addition to the rifles, the men had 146 rounds of 7.62mm Special life ammunition and 10 life magazines among others.

They were stopped on the basis of their suspicious movement as they headed for Ogu Bolo Local Government Area in an off white Land Rover jeep with registration number JJ441BZ.

Both Senator Sekibo and Evans Bibi are from Ogu and have publicly confessed to being extremely close associates of Nigerian First Lady Patience Jonathan, who hails from nearby Okrika, and they all speak the same Okrika dialect.  Evans Bipi was a domestic aide of Mrs. Jonathan before he was elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2011, Sekibo, who nurses gubernatorial ambitions, hopes to ride into Government House on the back of Mrs. Jonathan.  They are all publicly known to be fighting the Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Following their arrest, the men were taken to Bori Camp, the military base in Port Harcourt.  Unconfirmed information reaching us is that they were this morning handed over to the Police in Rivers State.

The police command in the State is headed by Commissioner Joseph Mbu, who is said to have been brought to the command by Mrs. Jonathan, from whom he has been widely accused of taking directives.

Only recently, Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi raised the alarm that arms, ammunition and weapons were being brought into the State by people opposed to his administration ahead of the next general elections.  He alleged that the weapons were meant to be used to intimidate and perpetrate violence against the people of Rivers to enable his opponents to rig the elections.

Politics / Re: 20 Mistakes Spotted In Goodluck Jonathan’s Christmas Message by dami212: 10:09pm On Dec 27, 2013
MAYOWAAK: My attention was drawn to President Jonathan’s goodwill message to Nigerians on Christmas. Having read many speeches from the President of Nigeria, I am always certain that there would be grammatical and other kinds of errors in his speeches. Indeed, I have stopped bothering about it. But when I read his present speech, I had to comment, initially for the benefit of my friends.

The responses to my comment promoted me to further analyze that speech. (Before you go further, remember that anybody can make a mistake. It is a matter of degree; but the office of the President of Nigeria should not make the same type of mistake that an individual like me could make). The funny thing is that I am actually familiar with how the presidency works or should work. There are layers of personnel to ensure that anything coming from the President, directly in his name, reflects the best the country is capable of. That is supposed to be the general state of affair and everybody in the presidency understands and works towards that. The office of the President would therefore have the best secretaries and other support staff working in a structure where they are positioned to detect errors and correct them before the matter gets out.

For instance, it is a serious problem to submit a document to the President for his signature, where such a document has an error in it. We refer to documents signed by the President as documents that are watertight and perfect. They leave no room for typos or other problems. That is why a document bearing directly the name of the President would go through several checks and reviews before publication.

Note that this was not a speech delivered on behalf of the President by an aide. It is not a thing by a press rep. It is not a thing by his advisers. It is directly in the name of the President. So, efforts should have been expended to ensure that it met the highest standards. If they were not sure of that standard or they lack the time and resources to ensure the highest standards, they could have had the speech given on behalf of the President by some other official.

What I think happened was that they allowed a low grade, low talent (but highly paid) connected political player’s relative to man the President’s Facebook account. They forgot that even though it was Facebook, that was the President directly communicating with the world.

Some people naively think that this is just about grammatical error. They are satisfied that he even bothered to greet them on Christmas. But, rather, this matter reflects failure at several levels. It is failure to understand the use and significance of the social media in modern governance. It is failure to understand the people and the audience the President is trying to reach. It is a failure to select the right officials based on competence rather than political patronage. It is simply a huge failure to lead the country with any sense of modernity.

A few days ago, President Putin of Russia had a meet-the-press session attended by 3,000 press people. Putin communicated with the world with the latest and best technology that exists. He communicated like a pro. But here, the President of the most populous black nation in the world where 65% of the population comprises of people under age 30 could not even send a simple message on Facebook without so many basic errors.

Now, I used this simple issue to test Nigerians. I wanted to see how many of the youth would understand what is in issue here. Many do not understand that if you don’t speak any language of your choice in the correct grammatical format, that would cause you to say the opposite of what you meant to say. Now, may we examine in some specific details the statement by the President of Nigeria, as follows: (I placed my comments as Notes after the first four paragraphs). PRESIDENT JONATHAN’S SPEECH: FIRST PARAGRAPH: As the world marks the birth of Jesus Christ, let me, on behalf of myself, my family and the Federal Government, extend the good tidings of peace, progress and joy to every home throughout our beloved country Nigeria.

Note: This paragraph has the errors such as: (1) The world does not mark the birth of Jesus Christ, really. Only Christians do that. This is because the word “marks”, as used in this first paragraph means: “a festival to mark an anniversary: celebrate, observe, recognize, acknowledge, keep, honor, solemnize, pay tribute to, salute, commemorate, remember, memorialize.” Only Christians do that for the birth of “Jesus Christ”. Also, there is a difference in connotation between “Jesus of Nazareth” and “Jesus Christ”. Jesus of Nazareth is a historical figure that everybody agrees was born, lived and was killed in the region of Judea about 2000 years ago. The Jews and Muslims and everyone else really call him “Jesus of Nazareth”, but they do not accept that he is “Christ” the Messiah. So the world could not really “mark” the birth of “Jesus Christ”, any more than it would be correct to say “the world marks the birth of Mohammed”. (2) The use of the phrase, “on behalf of myself” is questionable on grounds of appropriateness. If you must add “myself” on the list of people the President was speaking for, that should be the last on the list. (3) The phrase, “the Federal Government”, is incomplete and ambiguous. While acceptable in some clear contexts, it is ambiguous to someone who might not automatically know that Jonathan is the President of Nigeria. So, that phrase ought to have been “Federal Government of Nigeria” or anything else that specifies the country in question. This is particularly so because the phrase is being used for the first time in the speech. It is true that he subsequently added in the same paragraph the word “Nigeria”. But that does not cure the error. (4) The last phrase in that paragraph, “our beloved country Nigeria” is incorrectly written. There ought to be a comma between “country” and “Nigeria”. The funny thing is that if the writer had used the readily available spell checker on his or her computer, many of these errors would have been highlighted and taken out. So, how could our officials be so lazy and daft?

SECOND PARAGRAPH: Christmas is a time of joyous family gatherings and as President, I see every Nigerian as a member of my family and I urge us all to retain the unique sense of brotherly love that this season evokes beyond the Yuletide period.

Note: (1) This paragraph is mostly meaningless. The President’s attempt to define Christmas only as “a time for joyous family gatherings” does not reflect an intelligible articulation of the purpose of Christmas. In fact, religious scholars do not believe that the central connotation of Christmas involves family gatherings, as there is no such religious obligation for families to gather. Of course, he could have avoided this ambiguity by indicating that this is his own understanding of the meaning of Christmas. (2) Also the use of the definite article “a” before “time” does not reflect the best practice. (3) Similarly, there ought to be the definite article “the” before the word “President” in that paragraph. (4) The most disturbing error in the second paragraph of the speech has to do with the last seven words in that paragraph, “this season evokes beyond the Yuletide period”. The problems here are: (a) What is the “season” mentioned here? That is Christmas season. (b) What is the “Yuletide period” mentioned here? That is Christmas period. So, that statement really says something like this: “This Christmas season evokes beyond the Christmas period”. You can see immediately the dumbness of such statement. It is a lazy statement by a lazy writer. And, by the way, what is the meaning of the word “Yuletide”? It is defined by Wikipedia as: “Yule or Yuletide (“Yule time”) is a Pagan religious festival observed by the historical Germanic peoples, later being absorbed into and equated with the Christian festival of Christmas.” The English Dictionary defined it as “Archaic way of saying “Christmas””. Now why would this writer use such term, really?

THIRD PARAGRAPH: While we will surely mark this holiday in our different ways and according to our established traditions, it is my desire that we all celebrate Christmas with some minimum comforts and my team and I have long prepared for this by working to improve our infrastructure especially those that most serve us during this season.

Note: This paragraph, like all other paragraphs in the speech, contains at least four errors. I don’t need to mention them here, except to point out the most bizarre of the errors. That has to do with the phrase: “it is my desire that we all celebrate Christmas with some minimum comfort...” What does the President mean to say here? Is he urging Nigerians to show restraint in their consumption during the period, which might make sense, or does he really mean that Nigerians should be minimally comfortable during the period? (If Nigerians don’t have electricity during the period, yes, that would be “minimum comfort” for them). It is totally bizarre for such ambiguity and confusion to emanate from a simple statement of goodwill from the President of Nigeria. I will not bother to list the errors in the remaining paragraphs. Those are even too disturbing for anyone to bother to point them out. It is easier to point out the correct statements here than to point out the errors because only about five sentences in the entire speech are correct grammatically and otherwise. And most of the factual assertions in the speech are false and most statements of opinion in it are illogical.

FOURTH PARAGRAPH: Knowing that this period is the peak period for cross country travels amongst our people, this administration has fast tracked the repair and reconstruction of artery roads nationwide. We have also ensured that the nightmare our citizens suffered at fuel stations during periods like this is put behind us. For the second year in a row, train services have continued to run from the Lagos Terminus all the way to The hinterlands of the North. This year, we also introduced cargo and haulage train services from the Lagos Port to up country locations.

FIFTH PARAGRAPH: With the Enugu airport now handling international flights, more of our people can fly directly to their localities resulting in reduced pressure on our roads. SIXTH PARAGRAPH: Our policies to spur local production of staples such as rice and wheat are bearing fruits as evidenced by the 2013 Global Hunger Index. SEVENTH PARAGRAPH: Although I will not depend on statistics until every Nigerian has enough to eat at all times and in every season, the report is salutary and only galvanizes us to further action. EIGHTH PARAGRAPH: I have also personally monitored government’s fiscal effort which we ensured were tightened for the purpose of avoiding or severely reducing the seasonal inflationary trends on consumer goods around this time of the year with the attendant result that inflation is at single digit rate. NINETH PARAGRAPH: These steps have been undertaken because of my belief that every good and great thing is possible in our country if we desire to achieve it. TENTH PARAGRAPH: So, as we all celebrate with friends and family, I say from me to you, Merry Christmas and may the joys of the season extend from our individual homes to those of our neighbors and neighboring communities irrespective of religion and region. APC’s visit to Obasanjo: Nigeria heading for shipwreck – Soyinka
on december 23, 2013 at 1:09 am in news
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka yesterday faulted the visit of All Progressives Congress, APC, leaders to former President Olusegun Obasanjo last Saturday warning that Nigeria was heading for a shipwreck with such political romance.
In his statement, titled: “Shipwreck Ahead”, Professor Soyinka cautioned that Nigeria would need rescue operations if the APC intends to court Obasanjo to serve as a navigator for the ship of the state.

Soyinka
According to Soyinka’s short statement, “an APC-led group, we understand, has been paying courtesy visits to former Heads of States. Would it be correct to state that their purpose is captured in the following Mission Statement? ‘Tinubu added that the APC had resolved to rescue Nigeria, appealing to Obasanjo to lead the mission. We’re resolved and determined to rescue Nigeria. We want you as navigator,’ he said.”
Soyinka, then added: “If this attribution is correct, may I urge you, as an urgent public service, to advise families to begin the stockpiling of life-belts for the guaranteed crash. Don’t forget to alert the coastguards—ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States), AU (African Union), UNO (United Nations Organization) etc, to be on the alert for possible salvage operations. “If General Sani Abacha were alive today, would he also have been on the ship’s complement? As Captain perhaps?”Soyinka asked.

ISpiksDaTroof: First off, I'm still wondering why you threw in Buhari's name in the above nonsensical rant. Second, do you really expect us to believe that GEJ--- A man thats refused to declare his assets, has proven to be utterly corrupt, divisive and tribalistic, forgives international fugitives and calls them his mentors, was willing to give N4Billion of the country's to his wife to play around with constructing a meaningless building ---- really has

The level of ignorance of some Nigerians sometimes make me sick. I wonder why Nigerians will believe that APC will be a party that will develop Nigeria or change things in this country. If I may ask, who are the members of APC? Are they angels or are they sent from heaven. Buhari, Tunibu, Ameachi and the rest what special thing ve they done in their respective states that makes us to feel that if given the opportunity they will transform Nigeria. Someone should enlighten me about Buhari,a man who toppled a democratic government and ruled for some years without any meaningful achievement. Pls I want to know what Buhari forgot in Aso rock that he wants to go back and take. At his age, Buhari is suppose to behave like Nelson and retire from politics. Omo it's time for us to shine our eyes oh and throw away these old men before they destroy our future and the future of our children.

Teacher Beats 4-yr-old Pupil To Death For Being Stubborn by Kingspin(m): 5:34am
DETECTIVES in OndoState have detained a primary school teacher, Alade Adebayo, for allegedly flogging to death a four-year-old female pupil Elizabeth Wanogha.

The deceased pupil was a student of a private primary school, Falaye Memorial Nursery and Primary School, located at Fanibi area in Akure metropolis.

The teacher, according to report, accused the deceased of being stubborn in the class. He was said to have beaten the girl to a state of coma.

Cries from other pupils in the class reportedly attracted other teachers who rushed to the scene where they found that the girl had fainted.

She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital and was admitted but reportedly died later.

Police authorities, however, said that the pupil died two weeks after the beating by the suspect.

The father of the deceased, Mr Wanogha lodged a complaint at the Fanibi Police station, alleging that his daughter died as a result of the injuries sustained from the severe beating by her teacher.

Following the complaint, the teacher was arrested for interrogation.

Contacted, the Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, confirmed that the teacher had been arrested.

Ogodo however said that people should not jump into conclusion that it was the beating which took place about two weeks earlier that led to the death of the pupil.

He pointed out that the autopsy will determine the cause of the pupil’s death.

Ogodo said that the suspect is being quizzed at the state Criminal Investigative Department, SCID.

He explained further that the deceased was hospitalised immediately after the beating but died two weeks after.

Ogodo said that investigation into the death of the pupil continues adding that the findings would be made public.

The father of the deceased pupil insisted that the teacher should be prosecuted for murder.

Mr wanogho who lived at Adebowale street Fanibi vowed that the matter would be pursued to a logical conclusion to serve as deterrent to wicked teachers who vent their anger on innocent pupils put in their care.

He appealed to NGOs to take the matter up by ensuring that it was not swept under the carpet.

The proprietor of the school declined comment on the incident.
