Unfortunately, she’s no more eligible for interview waiver

Please my mom had a visa that expired in 2020 Feb. Someone said she is not eligible for Dropbox because it's been more than two years.

Is it possible for her to do a waiver? And what are the steps?

Sorry about this, I suggest you share the content of the white paper here so we have an idea why she refused, then we can help out. Thankfully, a refusal is not a final decision.

Not many people are used to sharing stuff in public domains…one has to respect their decision.

The interviewer this morning was a jolly good fellow. she was so much in a good mood. lol. Only denied one bishop in full regalia who stated he was in the U.S for 3 months doing the work of God.

People should share transcripts and not call privately so that others can learn. I have an idea why mine would go into AP.

There was someone that spent 24 hours in the US (the VO saw this on i94) and that was the basis for the earlier refusal.
I always ask people to review their travel history on the i94 portal before attending the interview…it helps you to confidently respond to questions about your previous visits to the US.
This particular applicant reached out to me (from here) via email and we reviewed the likely reason for the refusal. When he mentioned that he had spent 24 hours previously in the US, I told him that could be the red flag. Apparently, he was in transit in the US during a visit to the Caribbean…He has a justification for the very brief stay…
Alas…that was the only clarification the VO needed this morning and his visa was issued.

I want to try the IW for my mum since her visa just expired recently, please can i use her previous DS-160 or i need to fill a new one? Also she stayed longer than what was on the ds 160 she also came to the US twice but never overstayed is that an issue?

Documents are dropped at the consulate. Also, only applicants can drop the documents or a member of the family if applying together.

Parents are allowed to drop for their minors/kids though

Good morning Nairalanders, please can anyone who has done Dropbox this year tell me where exactly documents are dropped off in Lagos. Is it DHL or the American Embassy?

Also, I have been reading previous posts and wish to know if the comment that only an applicant can drop off documents is a new development because I had dropped off documents for my mum and sister in previous years even though I was not an applicant at the time.

Yes, you can…if the system allows you.(if you are able to update the new confirmation number)

For those applying from Canada, it’s not easy to fill a new DS160 as you won’t be able to update the new confirmation number on your profile…

I was only able to get 7th July for appointment. I will have to change my plans for summer vacation (August) do I have to fill a new DS-160 form?

The answer is NO. The visa receipt reference number is one of the important information you have to input before booking interview dates…

In any case, he should be patient. Calls or emails won’t amount to anything…

Hello gurus,

Someone submitted an IW document on the 1st of March with that of his wife as dependant, by 4th March, the wife status shows 'Issued' and she received a mail in her personal email that her document is ready for pickup, she picked up her passport with visa on Friday, 11th March. As at today, the man status shows 'passport still with the US embassy', the man is worried because he his the principal applicant and his passport is still not ready for pickup while his wife got hers. Note: tomorrow make 2weeks he dropped the document.

Please, what could be the cause of the delay?

Should the man call or email the embassy or keep expecting his pickup mail?

In your mind, you already know the answer. Give him that advice…

That said, this is one of the dangers of using an agent especially those ones that misrepresent information just to achieve an objective.

2020 is just few years ago, so I’m sure that your friend’s details are still fresh with the embassy. Any misinformation can earn him a 10 year ban…and it could affect future UK and Canada applications.
This is my opinion o, I’m not a guru yet…

Hi guys! Please I have a question maybe you all can throw some answers. A friend of mine is planning to apply for a student visa (Italy)but he was told that his documents will be verified and authenticated. Now this is the issue, in 2020 he applied for a us visa (with the help of an agent) he was told to bring down his age on his international passport which he did but yet he was denied visa. This time he doesn’t want to use an agent so he is doing everything by himself, wat is your advice since his birth certificate is carry a different date and his passport is carrying a different date??

Your application will clear all the air regarding that ‘misinterpretation’…
With the American consulate, people usually choose to err on the side of caution…so I won’t blame anyone if they misinterpreted that condition of “applying if only your last visa was issued in Nigeria”.

The guys that collect the passports at the consulate only watch out for expiry dates and type of visa expiring before collection. Let’s see what the VOs think…

In addition to the fact that this condition isn’t currently on their website, appointment booking questions, or the confirmation letter, as an interview waiver qualification. I understand that this might have been a previous condition. Also, people need to read to understand, as the following statement was what some people misinterpreted”

For B1/B2 visa holders:
• The applicant is a Nigerian passport holder; if not a Nigerian passport holder, the applicant principally resides in Nigeria and their last visa was issued in Nigeria;

So, as long as you are a citizen/passport holder of Nigeria, it works.

No pun intended, has the visa been issued?

My last visa was issued in Toronto, and I submitted IW in Lagos last week Wednesday. If it mattered, then it must have been in the past. Check the appointment confirmation I attached, nothing was written in regards to last visa location.

Did you give birth to your child in the US? Have you always been going on trips together (previous US trips)? Have you always applied for US visas together?

Call up the one you filled previously and select the “retrieve old application” option…then edit it (mind you, the system will generate a new DS160 confirmation number)….
You then log on to the interview portal and click on the “update profile” option to enter the new DS160 confirmation number…

Revert to the platform if you still have problems..

Been very busy had to travel for a burial
Picked my passport on Wednesday and it says come to the embassy any thur btw 6:39 to 9:30
I went the following day 10/03.

Vo where are you going I answered and said vacation however I made a mistake and chose B2 as my last visa was B2
VO where are you going , I answered
VO you know the address , I answered
VO how many kids do you have I answered
Vo where do did you have them I answered
Do you intend to use Medicals in the next two years I said no , I no get belle
Where do u work I answered what do you do there’s I answered and she said visa approved

There were a lot of denial for those that stayed longer than they filled on the ds 160
Those that their families went and never returned so many things , a couple was banned for life from the US . Pregnant woman denied that it is no longer allowed to give birth in the US and many more

You can say that you made an error in your visa selection and that you meant to select B1/B2 category since your travel purpose is tourism. Knowing how those guys think, they will assume this excuse is an afterthought and may tell you to reapply choosing the right category…but it’s still wise to be honest with them. You’ve made a genuine error, stick with that narrative. If you want to start making fictitious hospital appointments, you’ll be digging more holes that can backfire.

Your honesty may earn you sympathy and favor. You can make vacation enquiry in the meantime. Where are you going to visit? Where are you going to stay? How long will you stay? Give specific details when asked. Show that your purpose is tourism and back it with details of your preparation…

When you applied for the last visa, what did you state as your purpose for traveling? If it was to attend that conference, did you get any notification directly from the organizers that the conference would be cancelled due to COVID or you just read it online?
Did you make any payment to attend the conference or it was open to the general public for free?
I’m asking these questions with your next application in view? Even if you say you are going for vacation (of course, your travel history across Europe lends credence to your integrity as a “non-migration seeking traveler”) it’s important you give a closure to this failed application.

Here is the update about my follow-up interview today.
I did not use my last US visa though it was my first US visa because the event I wanted to attend was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Transcript:
Vo: Good morning
Me: Good morning.
VO: Have you been to the US before?
Me: No.
VO: You didn't use your last US visa?
Me: Yes
VO: Where are you going and what's the reason?
Me: Mentioned the city and the purpose. Same event I wanted to attend two years ago.
VO: Have you been to the UK before?
Me: Yes.
Flipped through my passport. I have an expired UK visa, 2 expired Schengen visas and one year valid Schengen visa.
VO: Did you travel with your family?
Me: No. Children were in school.
VO: Visa not approved. You can reapply.
Me: Thank you. I waka comot jejely. Lol.

Apparently, she wasn't happy that I didn't use the last visa. But I can't travel without a purpose.

The main problem the VO stated is she said she was spending 3weeks and spent 4months in 2017. She told her to always say 4months if she wants to stay 4months

She has to apply for another interview afresh and the dates are far away: 2023 ish…

You’ll have to keep checking for her…you can make the visa fee payment for a start

Reason she stayed more than she said on past visit even though it was 4months and she got caught up here during covid. Even though she applied for extension. How soon again can she apply? Any idea how farther new appointment dates are?
Always say the exact times you intend to stay from the beginning, the VO said that outrightly!

Hello everyone, i stumbled on this thread while looking for a way to contact US embassy. Myself and my wife submitted our passports for IW since 15th Feb. My wife got email and picked up her passport on the 22nd Feb but i haven't gotten an email till now. I went to DHL last week to check and they say its still with the embassy. On the Status check portal, it says Issued since 22nd Feb.
When my wife got her email, i assumed mine would be sent soon so i accepted an April work trip and flight has been booked. .

I already mailed the embassy but no response but the automated one. Haven't been able to speak with a human being on their customer care line. Anybody has any idea of what else i can do?

This is a strange development especially since the status says “issued”. Best bet for now is to try to speak with someone on the phone (even though I know they’ll tell you to be patient and that the process can take up to 8 weeks).
Keep trying the customer line…try it now, you’ll be lucky.
