Modified:To those doubting me, you can come to modakeke and confirm for yourselves..

Oga, I will refute this your claim. Modakeke is expensive jo. I lived at Apalara Street which is close to Modakeke during my undergraduate days at oau. The houses you are confirming as of low prices to rent are those ancient homes, not the newly built ones.

As at 2018, a room selfcon in a building close to the place I lived was 100k. One room apartment with shared kitchen and toilet was 50-60k.

Maybe it's being a while you travelled home.

Guy, if I go advise you, even though you wan dey find one skill to do. Please, also try apply for job before the end of your services year. Thankfully, most organisations do online interviews, with that, you can apply and do interviews online even before you pass out. Never lie about yourself during interview.

Reason why alot of ex-corpers still look for job after services is because they wait till after services before they start applying for job.

Look for job platform like LinkedIn.com, jobbberman.com, etc and other whatapps and telegram job channel. This will give you information about available jobs and might help you in getting a place before services end. Gracias!!!!

Education / Re: Which Of These Sentences Used Commas Correctly? (Screenshot) by daneni1(m): 8:21am On May 03, 2022
yemobrown:
And is used to connect words of the same part of speech, clauses, or sentences, that are to be taken jointly. "bread and butter"

Home Grammar Punctuation How to use a comma (,)

How to use a comma (,)
A comma marks a slight break between different parts of a sentence. Used properly, commas make the meaning of sentences clear by grouping and separating words, phrases, and clauses. Many people are uncertain about the use of commas, though, and often sprinkle them throughout their writing without knowing the basic rules.

Here are the main cases when you need to use a comma:

in lists
in direct speech
to separate clauses
to mark off certain parts of a sentence
with 'however'
Using commas in lists
You need to put a comma between the different items in a list, as in the following sentences:

Saturday morning started with a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and French toast.

The school has a vegetable garden in which the children grow cabbages, onions, potatoes, and carrots.

The final comma in these lists (before the word ‘and’) is known as the ‘serial comma’. Not all writers or publishers use it, but it is used by Oxford Dictionaries – some people refer to it as ‘the Oxford comma’. Using it can make your meaning clearer. Take a look at this sentence:

My favourite sandwiches are chicken, bacon and ham and cheese.

It isn’t entirely clear from this sentence whether the writer is listing three or four of their favourite sandwich fillings: is ‘ham’ one of their favourites and ‘cheese’ another, or is it ‘ham and cheese’ that they like? Adding an Oxford comma makes the meaning clear:

My favourite sandwiches are chicken, bacon, and ham and cheese.

Using commas in direct speech
When a writer quotes a speaker’s words exactly as they were spoken, this is known as direct speech. If the piece of direct speech comes after the information about who is speaking, you need to use a comma to introduce the direct speech. The comma comes before the first quotation mark. Note that the final quotation mark follows the full stop at the end of the direct speech:

Steve replied, ‘No problem.’

You also need to use a comma at the end of a piece of direct speech, if the speech comes before the information about who is speaking. In this case, the comma goes inside the quotation mark:

‘I don’t agree,’ I replied.

‘Here we are,' they said.

There are two exceptions to this rule. If a piece of direct speech takes the form of a question or an exclamation, you should end it with a question mark or an exclamation mark, rather than a comma:

‘Stop him!’ she shouted.

‘Did you see that?’ he asked.

Direct speech is often broken up by the information about who is speaking. In these cases, you need a comma to end the first piece of speech (inside the quotation mark) and another comma before the second piece (before the quotation mark):

‘Yes,’ he said, ‘and I always keep my promises.’

‘Thinking back,’ she added, ‘I didn’t expect to win.’

Oga yemobrown, abeg come finish the lecture on the usage of comma, please.

I have been having issue with it and will appreciate if you complete the other usage of it.

Thanks.

1. To always believe in oneself

2. While believing in oneself, one need to keep updating and developing him/herself

3. To never look down on anyone

4. To show love and care to humans. I got to know this when I asked the Aboki man that I do buy water from about his sleep. The way he smiled while answering me tells me that we all are important.

5. Save and invest

6. To always pray for Nigeria bcus in so doing, you are praying for yourself because you are a Nigerian

7. Although alot of men insult women on the Internet space on a daily, don't take it too serious as a guy for there are good gals out there, if you find one, hold her tight.

And finally, attachment is the cause of pain and joy

I am not married but I thought it would be nice to read from married women to know or understand why this occurs. It might help some married men self reflect and self correct where needed, if a particular situation applies to them. For example if it's poor hygiene, selfish or poor performance in bed, not providing, etc............ I am just speculating.

I followed Gaggii's thread on this same issue/topic, it was one of the most educating and entertaining threads I have come across on NL. It was delightful to see grown men being candid and vulnerable about their realities. I laughed hard at some comments, shook my head at comments from oversabi and ITK men, who aren't even married and one comment in particular broke my heart. See comment below;

Even though the user is a complete stranger I felt bad reading this, especially the words in bold. I think as women we underestimate how much men would really like to feel appreciated, complimented and loved (even if it's through sex). There were valuable lessons from Gaggii's thread and I appreciate the education in male psychology it provided me. A similar education (in female psychology) from married women, for men, would be appropriate. Let's learn from each other, but, I understand why some women may be reluctant to participate/share. The trolling, bullying and insults on the forum can be something else, especially towards women.

Please share a link of Gaggii's tread

Good day, please, i will need your advice on this two options available to me at the moment. I am a graduate of Accounting in a state of dilema on which of these two options to choose. I have an offer to work as teller in a bank with #80k plus as salary and also to work in an Accounting/Auditing firm with a take home pay of #50k with an option of enrolling for ICAN in the next diet. I am confused on which one to go for career wise. Your advice needed urgently!

I wish I had seen this post earlier before now, so my comment will be on the first page of the post. However, I will give my opinion and it's left for you to choose.

Earlier in my career as far back in 2013 after my ND education, I was opportune to work in an audit firmas an IT student, which take home was 50k, even after leaving back to school (Uni), that was my earnings whenever I came around to work during the semester break.

After graduation in 2018, I worked with this audit firm for two years earning 58k net

Although the money might be small, but I learnt a lot, I grew along the line. Majority of us were chased out after covid-19, but my experience speak for me and till this day, I have not spent a month looking for job, each time I needed a new job, I got it with ease.

To me, I did advise you take the audit job as it will expose you and after a year or some month of growth in different industries, you can start applying to organization with higher pay.

Started at the age of 9 by frying Akara and selling it with bread in the morning before school and evening after school. Was paid 200 Naira per day.

Then went to do house girl from there till I finished secondary school. Was paid 5K per month.

Couldn't enter University early. Had to do different menial jobs to raise money for school. Menial jobs like watching people's clothes, sweeping compounds, doing house maids jobs then finally raised money and wrote jamb to enter school.

Being a full-time students was hard. Was working at a small shop to raise money to fend for myself in school and pay my school fees.

Then finally graduated.

Remembering those days makes me nostalgic.

Then one stupid idiot will now look at me and think that I haven't worked a day in my life becos of how sexy and attractive I look.

I'm glad that I don't look like what I've been through

Magnoliaa, men are helping one another with finances. But one thing you must know is that, no one want to be taken for granted. Life is all about give and take, help me today, I assist you tomorrow. Once a guy noticed that he is giving but the other person always want to collect without reciprocating. Its either he cut such a friend off or he play his game with him.

From the words of my dad, if you want to know a true friend, always give out money to him, buy him things and one day act like you don't have, ensure you know he has and request his help. His answer will tell if he is a giving friend or a parasite. I have always use this technique to choose my friends and it hasn't failed me.
