Health / Re: How To Fix A Whitlow Deformed Finger Nails by DarryOsh(m): 8:47pm On Apr 21, 2016
CashNaira96:
Hello friends, i have a whitlow deformed nail on my ring finger in my right hand. I was told that i had a whitlow when i was very little and since then my nail has remained deformed. Like its not growing normal, has rough face and pains me at times. Please does anyone know how i could get it back to normal? Like a drug, herb or sumtin i could use please...

Since you say it still gives you pain, I wonder if this is whitlow.
and your picture does not show the finger very well.

Anyway, my sister had something similar for years (not whitlow. Some infection, maybe) . She went to the hospital and all that and the nail continued to grow so weird and it often gave her pains. Eventually, she decided to just forget about it and leave it.

Then one day a total storage saw it and was like, "Omg! I know that thing. I had it for years. " then she told my sister how she got it treated. It was a 'bizarre' treatment. But she tried it. In weeks the rough finger fell off and she has her beautiful nails back. But treatment was painful.

In summary, you are not comfortable with how you are treated by your organisation. But the only way I know to solve relationship impasse is through dialogue, raising my concerns, listening to the other party's concern.

I cannot advice you to do anything rash that will cost you your job. I don't know the dynamics of your workplace and I'm am working based on the limited info you provided (which I am assuming is true).

For me, 'no dialogue' is not an option. I doubt if I can work with a firm (or have any form of relationship with an individual or entity) where I am not allowed to dialogue and raise my concerns when necessary. But that is me. And of course, I have to consider my situation. For you, it's just a one year work relationship. Maybe you can endure it.

But let me help you a little further. Maybe you look at it through the lens of what is at stake. Ask yourself the following questions within the context of your situation:

What is the best thing that can happen if I raise my concerns? (e.g. Management listens and treats us better)
What is the worst thing that can happen if I raise my concerns? (e.g.I get fired)

What is the best thing that can happen if I don't raise my concerns? (e.g I endure the current situation for 8 months more).

What is the worst thing that can happen if I don't raise my concerns? ( e.g they take it as a cue to bring more crazy rules and eventually I suffer a breakdown).

Answer the questions truthfully based on your situation. Answers will be different for each individual.

That may work for you. It works for me in most (if not all) situations.

Cheers!

Since you enjoy this what if game, let me indulge you with one of my weird what ifs.

To the worms and bacteria in your gut, your body is their universe. Maybe they have their own economy, government etc. Maybe they have their own technologies, extracting minerals from your digestive juices and bones and they make their own machines and all that. Your stomach is their earth and somhow they managed to successfully send a few of their species to the liver and back, and they are like "oh, we went to the moon". The heart is their Jupiter, the kidneys are Saturn and all other organs are considered planets or moons or one galactic body or the other.

They experience drought when the person whose body they inhabit decides not to drink water for some reason (maybe he is binge-watching season 3 of game of thrones and is too engrossed to get up and drink water (mind you, one hour for us is like a year for them). They experience a tsunami when the person belches. They experience an earthquake when the person gets into a fight and gets punched in the tummy. The person takes some drugs and the side effects causes some of them to die and some fall sick and have heart attack.

They have their own Lionel Messi, Einstein, Agbani, John legend, Kim kardashian, Shekau etc. They have their own Dubai, Abuja, North Pole, black race, Hispanics, white, e.t.c.

Now what if our entire universe exists in the gut of a much more advanced being. And there are 7 billion of those beings (i.e. 7 billion universes) in existence. Our being is already old and has some years left to live. When he dies our universe will come to an end. But the few years he has left is, for us, the 5 billion years scientists say our universe has before it ends. Maybe one day he will take combantrin to de-worm ( de-human) and kill half of the world population.
Or maybe our being is fighting to get rid of us, like a person with cancer tries to get rid of cancerous cells. Maybe what we experience as global warming is chemotherapy which doctors are trying to use to save our being's life (so, maybe global warming is not as a result of human actions).

Maybe we are not as 'big' as we think we are (even though we invented smartphones and aeroplanes). Maybe to some other advanced beings, we are just worms in the gut. And we'll never know because they have no reasons to contact us. I mean, we certainly don't spend time crying to communicate with the worms and bacteria in our guts.

Ps: I know there are 'plot holes' in this hypothetical situation but take it as a rough sketch.

So if the universe is an experiment, then you are just one of the variables. You are dispensable.
Maybe you are conditioned to do everything you are doing. Maybe you don't have free will. Maybe the thoughts you have of the universe being an experiment were planted in your mind by the so-called scientists carrying out this so-called experiment. Heck, we could go on and on...

NB** no man is an island of himself
For now, you can upload unofficial transcript. i.e your result print - out from 100 level till final year, semester by semester, showing all the courses you took and the grades you got.

However, you may want to start processing your real transcript cos you will eventually have to tender it before you get an offer. For now, unofficial transcript is OK.

Does anyone have info on the leadership questionnaire. I sent a mail. No response yet.

Celebrities / Re: Malaika Becomes Tecno Mobile Ambassador (photos) by DarryOsh(m): 3:55pm On Mar 02, 2016
onatisi:

I will disagree with you on this one .
Firstly the number of potential buyers among the cadre of ppl targeted by tecno far outstrips and out numbers the elite group by 10 to 1 ,if not more. The number of ppl that can afford 15k naira is far more than the number of ppl that can afford 50k phones. So it makes business sense to target the 15k ppl more than the 50k most especially innan economy like Nigeria.
Secondly,by signing malaika and making him project the image of tecno among the locals, they will see tecno as their own brand ,they will also have the feeling that they are enjoying what the rich educated ppl are enjoying.we are talking in terms of the whole south west ,that is millions of phones sales every quarter. Tecno has seen that already ppl see them as cheap chinko product so it is better they move along that line . The rich educated that can afford expensive phones have choices to choose from and to be honest tecno will not be among the top on their list.dont be surprised if tecno signs another local artisite from the east and north too. If they do their marketing very well they will be the number 1,they have identified their target market and they are going for them full force

First, keep it in mind that smartphones are tech gadget, representing technological advancement. Smartphone are not food and other basic necessities.

If tecno decides to sit down and be making N15,000 smartphones, then I think they may be making a mistake. The implication of this is that they will make mediocre phones only. No advanced features that come with high-end phones. Why?
1)They will have to charge more for the advanced features and their so-called target market can't afford it.
2)Their so-called target market do not even need these features. The average 'local' will not use advanced features. Do you think they use ordinary google maps that is available on even low-end smart phones? And even if they will use these features, can they pay for them?

Before the sad decline of Nokia, it was a top-tier brand, respected by the elite. Yet, they ruled the the low-tier segment as well. Why? The lower classes typically aspire to enjoy what the upper classes enjoy. If Tecno chooses to stay in the low-tier and Samsung, for instance, decides to compete with them in that tier (in addition to the high tier where they currently have lots of clout), what do you think will happen. These so-called target market will migrate to Samsung.

In summary, if the image of your brand is synonymous with the elite, the lower classes will aspire to it. If, on the other hand, your brand is synonymous with the 'locals', then you have lost the elite for life and may eventually lose the locals.

The game is about sales, with malakia the ordinary Lagos tout believes they have their own brand ,what this means is that tecno wants to associate with the poor and this may cause their elite customers to dump them but among the massive locals they are aiming to be the number 1

That exactly is my point! How much spending power does the 'ordinary Lagos tout' (again, to borrow your words) have? If 16 of them buy tecno's smartphones for N15,000 each, that is equal to one person buying a single samsung galaxy S6 edge.

Smartphones, to a great extent, are luxury items. I think it would have made more sense to strive to position tecno as a top tier (or, at worst, mid-tier) brand.

He has a large fan base due to the kind of music he plays. Tecno must have looked at his album sales too, with the huge fan base he should be able to make tecno popular among the local Yoruba ppl but who will do anything to identify with their singer

Yes, I guess that's the point. I just wonder if its a right direction to take. Among his peers, I'm not sure Malaika has the largest fan base - or even the second or third largest for that matter.

Aside that, I'm not sure building your brand to become synonymous with "local yoruba people" (to borrow your own words) is a smart idea.

This story is complex and I find it difficult to understand. I advice we get the full gist before concluding.

Ese was with the guy since 2015 in kano.
Ese says she is 17 her parents say she is 14.
They say the guy is 18.
Ese case isn't rape or kidnap, but a case of love (check the video when the police came to pick her). A lot of ladies at her age did such (running with guys at a young age)

The only crime the guy committed was dating a minor.

You conveniently skipped the part where her elder brother said he is 16 (and so Ese cannot be 17).

Can you see your life? You prefer pasuma because he is more popular abi? Pasuma is a glorified tout, handsome but uneducated. Malaika is highly educated. He has an American passport smiley smiley smiley

So what if he has a passport from the moon or Jupiter? Personally, I could care less about Pasuma or Malaika (and most Nigerian artistes)

Why did payporte sign Olajumoke as an ambassador instead of me or you who are well educated (you are well educated, right? smiley ) ? Nobody knows us. By virtue of providence (or maybe calculated publicity stunt as some people allege) Olajumoke is in a better position to promote their brand. Full stop!

So, don't make it sound like I am trivializing the importance of education. When the chips are down, at the end of the day, its all about promoting the brand.

Ps: I'm assuming that that part of 'American Passport' is some sort of sarcasm. What's the big deal about the american passport?

I meant the only way you can be under employed in self employment is if u lack the will to give all u have got. Simple.

All I have got is to conduct research in laboratories and teach in institutions but I cant find institutions that will employ me and I have to means to conduct my research because I have no money to set up my laboratories and there is no grant from the government blah blah blah....

How does that translate to going in circles?

Learned or not, what matters is the image. I wouldn't sign Pasuma as a brand ambassador, but if I had to choose between both of them, It will to be Pasuma.

My opinion though. I want to believe Tecno thought about it very well before arriving at this decision. They must have their reason.

fyneboi79:
You can never be under employed while you are self employed because you have the time to pursue ur dreams and passions without restrictions except one is lazy grin

in the most simple terms, underemployment means that you are willing and capable of being more productive that you are.

Imagine that you are a highly skilled astronaut in Nigeria. Unfortunately, you are skilled in a field in which you cannot feasibly practice your profession without help from government, established bodies etc. What do you do? You buy a taxi and become a taxi driver. This is serious underemployment. And, yes, this is an extreme example.

There are many simple examples that we can relate with in Nigeria Ask a lot of those guys you see selling stuff in traffic, they have one skill or the other which would have made them a lot more productive in an ideal world. And some of them have been selling in traffic for years. You may want to introduce your 'they are lazy' argument at this point.

Few years back we heard about how PhD holders scrambled for Dangote's truck driver jobs. They would drive trucks for dangote and after some years, the truck would become theirs.i.e. they would become self employed as truck drivers/owners. But do you know how much it costs to train to and become a PhD holder? Do you know how much more productive a PhD holder can be? They should be teaching leaders of tomorrow, conducting research in labs innovating and advancing the cause of humanity.

If, as you say, the only reason why this is so is because 'they are lazy', then it must mean that laziness is peculiar to Nigerians. Otherwise, you may want to point out an economically advance country where PhD holders are employed as truck drivers.

By under employment the english dictionary defines it as "working in a job where you can't use all your skills or where there is not enough work for you to do".
And to be self employed we know it means for us to start something of our own to generate income. Most times our passion comes to play. But a good percentage of Nigerian graduates are under employed. Doctors and engineers working in banks. English and economics graduates becoming teachers even though they didn't study under education and lots more too numerous to mention. I was under employed but I quit February 8 to pursue my own dreams. Though they want me to come back but I really want what's best for my future so I am turning down the offer. What would you do if faced with under employment?
Op, it is possible to be underemployed while being self employed. The two are not mutually exclusive.

What happened to Ese Oruru is something that
happens every other time in cities and villages
of south south, young girls of secondary school
age moving into men's house without their
parents' consent. They don't tell them they are
too young. The only thing they tell them is: "you
can go to anywhere you want but no bring belle
come my house" (lolz). If Ese Oruru was to be
'abducted' by one peter or James and taken for
honeymoon in sambisa forest, we won't get
public outrage. All you'll hear is, 'that is the
power of love' and it only ends as another tale
of two lovers who fell in love and nollywood will
be there to release part one to five. And
activists will be there to bark 'its her choice'.
While we expect that she is returned to her
parents soon, i hope our human rights activists
will also be there to protect her choice and
rights of being a muslim while she is in Bayelsa.
I hope they will also voice for her when she is
18 and expresses her interest to return to her
'husband' in kano.
@activists: always maintain balance in your
quest for justice and fairness to all.
@activists : stand up against evils happening
within your immediate community and not
always waiting to bark when 'outsiders' commit
those evils against 'your own'. Charity begins at
home.
@journalists : be balanced in your reports and
stop the hypocrisy ;even when you heard the
audio recording of the girl, you kept reporting
that she was kidnapped, abducted, forcefully
converted and forcefully married off
@general public : learn to be a JUDGE, every
good judge will always listen to BOTH parties
before taking a stance.

I know the biased and sentimental mind would abuse and quote me. You can bash me all you want but I just spoke my mind... Iree o

What is the meaning of this nonsense you are saying? In this same bogus audio recording you are talking about, didn't the same girl 'say' she was 17 years old? Is it not established as a fact that she can't be 17 since her elder brother is just 16? So what does this tell you?

If speaking your mind translates to defending evil then it's better you shut the hell up!
