I see reading fiction as a complete waste of time. It doesn't add a modicum of value to my life. That's why I don't read it. And you Nigeria fiction writers aren't even creative to begin with. All you do is rehash old stories or copy the plot of already successful books.

I mean this in a nice way. But you, my friend, are merely ignorant. What books have you tried to read? Wanna know how you reached this conclusion of yours.

Do you think movies too are a waste of time?

Aviator313:
Good day,

I really want to share my experience but I like being private, so this a 'secret' account.

Well, I started a new job few weeks ago. A mechanical Engineer by profession and been practicing since leaving school.

This new job came at a time where I was contemplating what to do with my life but my Lord came through for me.

I design Mechanical Building systems like the Plumbing, HVAC, Fire prevention and fighting amongst other related things. The role is interesting as no two buildings are the same and the taste, finance of the owners may vary greatly. Hence, the services Mr Dantata may want in his building is nothing compared to what Mr Danladi wants.

I worked with a consulting firm before now and the environment was lovely, but the pay was almost non-existent.

This new place gives me some perks but I have to be on site 90% of the time. Presently supervising an on-going project in Lagos, but I feel somewhat underachieved. Majorly, I would have to just implement the designs of another engineer and make minor corrections. I don't have the opportunity to contribute in the design process and that makes me feel like I am playing second fiddle.

I'm trying to calm my nerves but I know I ain't cut out for something like this. Sighs

Hopefully, I'll get over it or move on to something better suited for me.

Davide470, its been a while. smiley

For what it's worth I think it is OK to execute other people's designs since you are new. Over time you will likely get to give little inputs here and there, and then you eventually lead your own designs.

And then someone else will be executing your designs. I'm not an engineer but I guess that's the cycle.

So, I think you are doing good.

So yesterday being the 7th, we were to have an event for that day, a masked party titled "Aphrodisiac", we had made some research, called potential club goers, done some advert including instagram sponsored ads, bought masks, printed tickets and fliers

Last week, we saw a flier from the hotel/night club where our event was supposed to hold, basically our event is a masked party where guest are supposed to pay for tickets, get a mask and feel free to do and undo. now this flier for another event had a masked lady in the background and guess what the event was on 6th, the day before our event.

All hell broke loose, how could they organise an event which had similar theme with ours and couldn't even tell us despite notifying a month ago about our events and plans, calls were made, curses was spewed and the matter died down.

Yesterday we got prepared (It was my first time in a club and i didn't know what to expect), next story was that the the night club was ordered to be closed by a court(see gbese), and we were moved to a hall (red flag)

Next they gave me tickets to sell(Me? Tickets? a green horn like me? how i wan take start?) I complained that i am a guy and the numerous babes we had was suppose to sell tickets. them no even send me

least i forget, i was told to take inventory of the stocks in the bar and i was surprised at the astronomical fees this bar and clubs make. you buy a carton of coke for 1400 and sell each bottle for 500 naira, a drink(ace of spade) they bought from the market at 130k, they sell at the bar for 250k. i have the prices for other drinks.

That was how we stayed and not one person came, not one. I was so dissapointed and couldn't fathom what went wrong, was it our research, was it the Economy or was it the clubs fault

At the end of the day my boss took us to another club in town and same thing, the club was dry. i no even get power to dance, i just sat in the car and waited till morning when they were through with their partying.

Am just thinking of what will happen on monday, what will the ambience at work look like and how the company can bounce out of this

funny story.

please give us updates.

Remember to upload office selfie on daily bases, every board meeting u must snap and upload, if you get close to any offshore facilities whether for excursion just snap, I mean snap and snap and upload.
Watch how ur connection will grow and ur inMail will increase geometrically.
People come there to talk about their 'whocaresabout' achievements and wouldn't care to help an applicant looking for job.
I've used that platform for long, I even activated linkedIn job alert notification and applied for almost all the jobs yet no success. The last one I applied for made me buy e-book for the exam and was also successful in the exam yet nothing happened.
I don't go there again, still hustling despite my 2.1 one day I will go back to upload my own work selfie. They are intimidating me joor!

People get jobs via LinkedIn.

However, I think the platforms favours those who have work experience, not fresh graduates or people with limited experience.

I know a good number who got jobs via LinkedIn.
Usually, though, they don't apply. Companies go through profiles and invite those with the skills and experience they desire. Companies 'snatch' well qualified people via LinkedIn.

Romance / Re: I Can't Believe My Fiancée Can Cheat On Me by DarryOsh(m): 1:35pm On Sep 19, 2017
GudPpleG8Nation:
I'm typing this with heavy burden in heart. I'm getting crazy and weeping.

I met this lady over 6 years ago during my higher institution days, she was a fresher while I'm in my semi final year in school. Things were going well, we had sex after two years of the relationship(I'm the one that disvirgin her).

I have been very caring, stood by her and also,I let go of any ladies that comes my way. I didn't want anything that will stain the relationship. That doesn't mean I'm perfect however I have been trying my best to make her feel comfortable, loved and happy.

I started feeling comfortable and worried about my future with her because I discovered that anytime we had a misunderstanding, before you know it she has find a guy she will be dirty chatting with. She always say she's doing that to hurt my feelings.

I proposed last year, met her mum and one of her uncle and introduced her to my parents officially. Presently, waiting for her extended family to send the list for the traditional marriage.

I traveled to Ibadan on Friday to spend the weekend with her, on Sunday I just took her phone to watch movie when a Whatsapp message, I checked it and I replied the message. The guy called her, she was reluctant to pick the phone, she picked and spoke with the guy. After which the guy messaged her on Whatsapp that he called to confirm she's the one chatting with him and not her bf. I play along and started chatting with the guy. The guy was telling her to come visit him, I started twisting the guy and he was splitting out how he won't touch her when she comes. I confronted my girl, it took her over 8 hours to confessed that they had sex.

Jesus! This is a lady I invested a lot on, build my world around, every other ladies are shit in my presence. Even when I had 1000 of reasons to let go, I still stay with her but right now my world is shattered, I'm going crazy.
I need help because I'm dying, where will I start from (I'm 30 years old). Every negative thought of this world is running through my mind (from committing suicide to killing the guy to making the girl useless to herself for the rest of her life) cry cry cry cry

Question for you op. What exactly do you mean by the statement "That doesn't mean that I am perfect"?

Have you been totally faithful?

Ovamboland:

You'd be shocked to know learn only few people are interested in asking the right questions because they hardly see government revenue that gets stolen as their own sweat.

The reality of what is collected shows the government has been unable to collect a decent amount of earned income from Nigerians. While average countries like South Africa collect about 16% of GDP as tax advanced countries in Europe Collect on the average over 30% of GDP as tax. Almighty Nigeria is struggling to collect 4% of our GDP as tax.

That's why even though our GDP is larger than that of SA, their government has about 3 times spending power as our government for a much smaller population. If they can finance a 6000 MW power project a year our government will struggle to find money for 1000 MW project because of our bigger overhead, salaries for huge number of civil servants, etc

I must say that your comment drove me to dig deeper. I have to concede that our Tax to GDP ratio is rather low ( 6% according to Wikipedia, while S. Africa's is 27%). For some countries it is almost 50%. And yes, some experts believe that high taxes forces the government to become more accountable to its citizens. You definitely know what you are saying.

But in my opinion for higher taxes to translate into commensurate delivery , there is a minimum requirement that must be met. That minimum requirement is strong institutions, (near) zero corruption. In summary, a working system that delivers. I don't think the lack of government revenue is the reason for our non-working systems.

So I am shifting ground. I agree we definitely need to collect more taxes. But, I think that our most pressing problem at this time is not tax, it is the system that will manage that tax and manage it well.

And you believe fostering a non-tax paying culture is a sure route to make our country arrive at where we all desire it be?

Don't you think making everybody pay their fair share of tax is a sure route to ensure we all start asking the right questions and less people will see collecting just 1k to vote as your fair share of national cake in 4 years

If I get you right, people can only ask the government the right questions when they pay their fair share of taxes. But we already pay more than our fair share indirectly. If this is not enough to ask the right questions then I don't know what will make us ask those questions.

I think all the noise about taxes is denial of the problem. Taxation is not our problem (at least at the moment). Bandaging your arm will not cure a headache. Nigerian politicians are not talking of slashing their outrageous salaries and benefits even in the face of economic downturns, yet they want more taxes.

Do you get my point?

How can you improve on all those if people don't pay tax and hold their leaders accountable

It's tax before development and not develops met before tax ( we are not as lucky as the rich Arab countries )

The Bible says he who is faithful in little will be faithful in much. With all the money we made from crude we are where we are today.

Did you read what I wrote? I said our senators are living large to the detriment of the masses, buying themselves cars from the national cake.

Politicians that cannot slash their own outrageous salaries even in the face of economic downturn want the poor citizens to pay more taxes. Does that even make sense?

So you honestly believe our current crop of leaders will collect more tax and overnight they will change and begin to be prudent with the national cake. No! It will be business as usual. They will steal us blind. Nothing will change!

Let the government put their money where their mouth is by showing responsibility, then we will probably trust them by sacrificing more via taxes for a better future. What we have currently is not a responsible government. It is a shamelessly corrupt and selfish one.

What you have just described is the prevalent circumstances in most home, women have gone besirck, the modern world have increased the demonic influences around the homes and most women are actually more possessed

They may go to church but not because they love God
The unregeneted heart is actually a heart possessed with demons but they call it other name
Pride is one evidence of demonic possession, it eventually results in rebellion, some of its attendants are anger and bitterness, revenge, unforgiveness

When you see a woman who behave in such manner, it is indicative of deep spiritual problems and a home with these manifestation is not likely to succeed

Only and only when a man (generic) is truly born again can he begin to learn obedience according to the word of God
Your dads patience is commendable that is how to handle such rebellion but you have a demonic situation in hand with what you describe
1 Samuel 15:23 "Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft"

The way you reached this your conclusion ehn, lemme nor talk.

Did you take time to read the whole story?

You have many knocks for the mother, none for the father. You said the father's patience is commendable, but he has another family. You made no comment on that. And you don't see anything strange in the fact that he earns 400k and cannot afford a car even though his wife takes care of most of the family's bills (assuming she's telling the truth).

And you are here quoting scriptures upandan.

Honestly ...

If you that a look at all the top 25 economy in the world

Compare gdp to their yearly national budget/revenue then compare what you see to Nigeria you would instantly know why we are undeveloped

You can have a national budget lest than 5% of your gdp and expect something serious

Until we have a budget of at least $100bn we can get any meaningful development

The people must be made to pay tax so taut they in turn would be forced to check mate their leaders and not be easily bribed or moved by sentiment during election

Pay tax to a government that is not responsible. People say that citizens in countries like the UK pay exhorbitant tax but the citizens are gladly paying it because they enjoy the benefits. IN Nigeria nko? Let me not even start.

I provide my own power, I provide my own security. No infrastructure: poor roads mean that I spend more on vehicle maintenance, poor postal services mean that I pay a lot for DHL, Poor transportation network means I die slowly in traffic and waste my life slowly (after all, time is life right?). The list goes on an on. I pay to provide all these and more for myself. If you ask me, I think I already pay too much tax.

How can you be talking about higher taxation when our senators are earning fortunes for doing nothing, taking delivery of cars as if more than half of the country is not living below the poverty line. Ordinary power our government cannot provide, but they want to generate more revenue via tax. They have finished drinking the oil, now they are looking towards tax. Kuku kill Nigerians na.

If you want to compare Nigeria to other countries, don't just compare tax, compare quality of service delivery, compare standard of living, compare government responsibility, compare quality of life as well.

Am I not better off in my country, Nigeria even with all the poor leadership and insecurity that exists here. One of the worst issues humans can face is climatic problems that are disastrous. All of them in that location would end up forfeiting all they have laboured for including mortgaged homes and others valuables. how many of them can get back everything back from their so called caring govt. And these are countries Nigerians are dying to migrate to.

Ultimately, whether you are better off in Nigeria can only determined on an individual basis.

But let me tell you why the absence of natural disasters doesn't necessarily mean Nigeria is better.

The average life expectancy for an american is 79 years. For a Nigerian it is 55 years, I think this is the 7th lowest in the world (not so sure, but definitely one of the lowest).

What this means that in spite of natural disasters an American, on average, will live to be 79 years old while a Nigerian will live to be 55.We have not even talked about the quality of life.

It's taking them over 250years to get here and seriously struggling

I believed you live in this world, similar incidents have killed over 50,000 USA citizens in the last 10years.

USA and U.K are good at downplaying their situation while Africans destroyed their tourism industry by badmouthing themselves

This year alone, in Glenfell Building UK, over 500 people born to death including children in broad daylight, over 500 at a go, but guess what, the news only lasted for 2days.

I can't imagine 500 people being born in Nigeria and the news ll be done with in 2days

First of all the death toll for the grenfell is 80. One fulani herdsmen massacre is enough to kill that many. And our leaders will even fail to acknowledge it. I doubt if there is a single month when such massacre does not happen. People die in many other silly ways too.

If you have been following international news you will realise that it is not true 'that the news lasted 2 days'. You can be sure than people will be held accountable. Buildings collapse all the time here killing people, nobody is held responsible. Soldiers harass civilians anyhow. I can list so many preventable ways people die here. How many times have you heard of large numbers of people dying preventable deaths in the UK or US?

You can prepare for disaster, and take preventive measures and things will still go wrong (eg I'm a and HARVEY). But you learn from previous mistakes and ensure it never happens again. Does Nigeria seem like a nation that ever learns? No.

Nigeria is almost 60 with abundant resources. I don't think we have an excuse for the level we are at the moment.

Does this mean we are hopeless? No! But it begins with admitting that there is something fundamentally wrong with this country. NO need for excuses.

Please, The UK and US whose strides you try to downplay are worthy of emulation. This is a fact!

All of you shouting "if it's Nigeria, this and that.." if the government tells you to evacuate your homes, will answer them? I remember before the Lekki Floods the Lagos State government warned residents about it but did they listen?. We are always quick to castigate the government forgetting naturally we Nigerians are very stubborn and would rather say "God forbid" , "It's not my portion" or go to one Church and sit-down than be proactive. Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria.

Look at these photos. All I see here are bunch of Civilised people. Look at the filling station, very organized queue.but for here some una go don cut one corner to go front.

Government told them to evacuate? Did the government provide alternatives?

Has the government even earned the people's trust? Nonody believes the government. Why should they? Do we even have a government?

All the orderliness you see did not just happen. There is a result of long history of a society where mutual trust has been earned, between the citizens and government, and among citizens.

is because of the earth rotation. Winds are always coming out from the West. Even in Nigeria the West is prone to more wind storms than any other part of the country.

I hope if you don't mind if I ask for further clarifications.

Since the earth is a globe, there is actually no 'west' or 'east' or 'north' or 'south'. The west, east north and south owe their names to history rather than actual locations.

Aside that, Asia (which is in the east) is very much prone to flooding and hurricanes.
