If he is determined to, he can, but it won't be easy. Cgpa is calculated accumulatively and there are ways can rig it to favor him

dont give him false hope. He's done with 4 semesters and has 4 more to go. Even if he makes a 5.0 in the remaining 4 semesters, he won't be able to make it to a CGPA of 4.5

I have friends in that same UNILAG sorting one course or the other.

I don't think they do such in UNILAG and if they do, it's at a milder rate compared to other schools. But I've never heard of anyone sorting, you can't even try that in my department

Worst : Failed an Incourse, prayed to God for a B at least cos having a C would reduce my CGPA. I was so scared, but God surprised me with an A...so it wasn't all that bad afterall

Best: Got a 5.0 GPA for the first time in my 400l 1st semester which was the toughest and most stressful semester ever. Hoping for the same for my 2nd semester, just my professional exam result left. If not for ASUU I'd have done the exam and known my fate

My son is 300 going 400 level Pharm students @ Idiaraba(Unilag)Just noticed from from his portal curent CGPA of 3.33 but Courses outstanding as follows:-PCG201B,PCH202,PCH203,PHG211..he said these are 200 level result that 300 level result is not yet in the portal;..my concern, would he make it to 4th year does this mean additional year at that department or the school may pull him to botany or other non Pharmacy departments? He'll surely make it to 400l but your prayer should be that he passes all those courses and doesn't have any carryover by the time he's done with his final year, that's the only way he can avoid an extra year... But that's a lot of carryovers though and it's not easy registering for a carryover course in pharmacy since they do a lot of courses and may have exceeded the maximum units he can register for a semester, so he may be asked to drop some courses in order to register them. And as he said, it's possible he might have passed those outstanding courses already but since the 300l result hasn't been uploaded yet maybe that's why it isn't reflecting yet. Concerning him being withdrawn from pharmacy and taken to another department, he won't as long as his cgpa doesn't go below the minimum which is 2.4 or so

It can be proven that most graduates with 2nd Class to Pass are more successful than first class graduates.

mtchewww...so are you insinuating that students should purposely not do well in school as that will make them more successful or what... You should also note that more than 90% of graduates fall within that 2nd class and pass, that's why you find more successful people that graduated within this category.

some departments like mine haven't done professional exams and Project defense because of the ASUU strike, so that could be one of the reasons

It's still very possible for him to make a 2nd class upper, even a first class. But the probability of making a first class is low compared to a 2nd class upper

The only relevant thing on that list is consistency.
And consistency does not come out of thin air.

Infact as a First Class graduate myself , the three most important real factors are :

1) Move with the very best students in your class:
Every class has a First Class clique. They solve questions together that the rest of the class have no idea about, and most of those questions form the bulk of the exams.
They are usually very close to lecturers and get a lot of head start ahead of the class.
This helped me incalculably
A girl in my class graduated with 4.90 just by studying with us in every exam and test session.
She was pretty average, but performed excellently in exams by moving with the right clique.

2) Read like a mad man:.
To be accepted into the First Class clique in your class, you need to be a high flier yourself.
You need to prove your own merit to everybody to belong and when you are finally accepted into the clique, you just sail along on the waves of success and things become easier.

3) Pray like hell :
A point will come when you need God desperately.
Departments especially in federal universities are often fond of scaling down their First Class quota by any means possible.

You need prayers to avoid falling into that trap.

1 and 2 doesn't really apply to everyone, though it may help but it's not a guarantee that the person will make a first class.There are 1st class students/graduates that don't read/never read like a mad man...Natutal brilliance comes into play and smart work and most importantly knowing and understanding what the lecturer wants from you. There are people who read like that and hardly get A's. And yes, prayer is important...

I don't think it's his CGPA for 100L, I think it's the GPA, i.e first semester (slow result publishing of schools). Meanwhile I can't say the 2nd semester will be good because from the OP's body language he is somewhat jittery and lacks confidence, but If this guy is really serious to make first class he can.
If he studies like a machine and rewrite those course and flip the grades from F's to A's I dont see what's going to stop him from making it.
