toluayomide: I want to strongly advice anyone considering coming to Crawford university in igbesa to stop!! Don’t even think of applying not to talk of coming to Crawford university. The facilities are the school are completely ancient and rusty, In the real sense of it the school can be described as a total village, the staff are totally incompetent and our vice chancellor Prof. Isaac Rotimi is very wicked and greedy, he takes the view of the student with total levity, don’t even talk about student union in this school because they are puppets in the hands of the vice chancellor who rules the school like a dictator. If you desire to acquire a university degree in a convenient environment free from clamp down on human rights, don’t dare come to Crawford university. I am a 300L student and I can tell you from experience that we are occasionally mandated to kneel down and harassed by students on a daily basis, the school is not honest in their dealings with students, they usually seek every available opportunity to extort students of money that has been hard earned by our parents. The cafeteria staff are nothing to write home about, they are constantly rude to students despite the fact that we are paying for their service. Most of the money the school earns is directed towards providing maximum comfort to the school’s management who would stop at nothing to live in luxury, a testament to this is the multimillion naira Mercedes Benz suv that is owned by our vice chancellor, this is despite the fact that many of our laboratories lack adequate equipment’s. Our hostels are a mess, I can’t take pictures and post here because of how graphic they are but believe me when I tell you that you don’t want to come to this school. IF YOU LOVE YOURSELF, DON’T, I REPEAT DON’T COME TO CRAWFORD UNIVERSITY IN IGEBSA. I believe actions speaks louder than words so here are a few pictures of the mess called Crawford university below. Take your name off the post o, before the school uses this as an excuse to expel you |

hazan041: Please dear nairalanders I need your dearly advice
Am a student from a university here in Nigeria, it happens that I got 3.39 as my first gp which makes me unhappy but I didn't allow it to depress me... So the following semester I got 4.75 and now out of 8 semesters in total.. Am done with 4 now and my cgp totals 4.26 ... I have four semesters left.. Can I make it to 4.5? And what gp do I need to keep for each semester left to achieve that.... Thank you
Note: Don't talk about how grade doesn't matter in my life, am quite aware too as am not even planning to work with the degree You can still make it. Just keep on doing your best every semester and do not relent in your efforts. I have a classmate that was never on a first class even up till the 1st semester of our final year, but she finally made it in our last semester (a 5 years course). She worked for it and never stopped believing in herself. As I always tell my mentees, make sure you target a 5.0 every semester and if eventually you don't get it you'll end up getting something close to it |

theoptimist298: I finished with a 2.1 and i can tell you that the only thing is to read hard and be strategic.
Attend lectures, form your own notes in cases where there are no handouts, even when there are hand outs, lecturers love it when u repeat some things they say in class.
Forget textbooks, read your notes and handouts except in cases where the lecturer makes use of a particular textbook.
Cram and understand too. Make sure u do both. Understanding alone without cramming are for lazy students.
Read for tests as if its exam. Once u do well in the test, getting an A or a B becomes easier.
Keep serious friends or atleast friends that are worried about their performance.
Read a particular note or hand out more than once. That way it sticks more. The first read is usually the hardest, infact when reading something the first time, u may think u cant ever know it but stick to it, when u finish reading for the first time, sleep on it then read it again the next day! During the second read, u may be amazed how much u actually picked from the first read.
Make sure you are aware and social, drink a bit, womanise a bit, be aware. In the end, these things maybe more critical to success in life than academic excellence.
Pray to God for understanding and knowledge retention. Very key.
Be sympathetic to your examiner who would read what u wrote down. Write in a manner that is easy to read, ensure your work is always neat and well spaced.
Ensure to write with good grammar and well constructed sentences. This can save you in some cases where u dont even know the answer to a question.
Give back to the lecturer what they gave you but in addition, let your understanding also shine through in your answers. Here is what i do, i give back to the lecturer verbatim what i was taught, then i also add a last paragraph to my answer where i try to show case my own understanding. People who only try to show case their own understanding without also giving back to the lecturer what they were taught word for word would always be C or D students in the Nigerian educational set up Best advice. I can totally relate |

MLS is a new Dept here, so they don't really have their own building yet.. They're currently sharing a building with the physiology department. We have classes that are fully air-conditioned. Everything is up to standard to some extent...cos if it weren't, we wouldn't gotten 5 years accreditation from both NUC and MLSCN |

Amid1010: I have a few questions...
*What is the best age to start working as a medical laboratory scientist?
*What is the best field for post-graduate studies for a MLS student i.e masters/Phd? or is there anything like masters is MLS?
*What is the average salary of a medical laboratory scientist in Nigeria? i don't think there's any age restriction in the field of MLS. And for your post graduate studies it depends on where your interest lies. You could do our post graduate in any of the fields( Chemical pathology, Medical Microbiology, Virology, Histopathology, Molecular biology, etc) https://www.nairaland.com/261398/medical-laboratory-scientists-forumThat's the thread for Medical laboratory scientists so you can ask your questions there. They should have better answers since they've worked in the field and are more experienced |
