Family / Through The Eyes Of A Child by Davedavy: 10:44am On Sep 01, 2015
One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son,

"How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh Yeah" said the son.

"So what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.

With this the boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks, dad, for showing me how poor we are.

Moral:
Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don't have.Try looking at the world through the eyes of a child. Look at things as if you were seeing them for the first time. Be innocent again.

You just might like what you see and be more grateful for what you already have!

felixzo1:
the aim of cross breeding is to improve the genes of our local goats by mating them with superior genes,by using a 50%boar cross buck, on a matured local does, the incident of problems with kidding will not arise. therefore a lot of local does can be mated with just one 50%boar buck passing the genes to numerous kids( a 50% boar buck is a little bigger the the local doe, but not as big as the the pure boar buck)artificial insemination has nothing to do with kidding problems, kidding problems arise as result of the size of the kids born by the local doe when crossbred with a pure breed goat.moreover local does are cheaper to buy compare to a pure boar doe which cost nothing less than N65000, with that amount you can buy 5 local does and then just buy one 50%boar cross

Thanks a lot for the explanation.I am really interested in this,it is a nice concept. Are 50% boer buck readily available in Nigeria?
And please don't forget to discuss the feeding and management as promised.

felixzo1: [center]Starting a goat farm
This strategy will work for a person staying in a small town or in a village or, anyone who has access to natural pastures and a good security around his farm/house. This method is stall feeding / semi intensive. A first of all the area of 1 acre should be fence to prevent thieves and intruders, (bad belle people and saboteur) if blocks are used for the fence it will be more expensive, wooden fence or a wire mesh fence will work out cheaper. The capacity of the goat house should will vary, according to your stocking capacity, (bear in mind that in 2 years each goat will have 6 kids at least) so when you are starting with 10 matured doe (female goats) you should build a structure capable of housing 60 goats, so as not to have to build a new structure every year. The structure should have a platform especially if you stay in high rainfall areas. (See attached photos for samples) the idea is to gradually upgrade the genetic of our local breed to standard size goats (crossbreeding) for profitability. Bear in mind keeping only local goat will not be profitable in a commercial goat farm (cost of maintenance, management, feeding, housing) the strategy involves get a matured female local goats (Nigerian dwarf, sokoto red etc) that has kidded at least twice and has reached a fully matured body size and weight (this is to prevent kidding problems due to huge kids) and crossing it with a buck (male goat) of 50%boargoat/local breed. The offspring of your local goats will be 25%boargoats/75% boar goats. (This crosses breeding will be done systematically until you reach pure breed status which is above 6 years. Contact me for more information on this if interested) for example if you started with 10 local female goats and one crossbred male goat( upgrading accordingly, keeping all the female goats and selling the males only and always using higher genetics for each offspring) by the 7th or 8th year under good management. You will have more than 500 pure exotic breed goats capable of weighing a 100kg ( selling above 50,000 each) each. Please note that success comes with planning, patience and focus. ( this is a challenge to all the unemployed youths, you can start with just 5 female goats and grow)
Questions and comments are welcome. If will give more information if asked. My next write up will be on feeding in stall fed goats and management. And how to get a loan from bank of Agriculture for your start up a farm.

nice, but i think the easiest will be local dwarf bucks to either pure boers doe or 50% boer/50% local dwarf doe probably through AI.There might be kidding problem for the dwarf doe if you crossbreed boer buck with a dwarf doe. What do you think?.

Food / Re: Fish With Human Parts Seen In Ibadan by Davedavy: 8:52am On Jul 24, 2013
The PPRO said there was no issue in the mermaid story as she spoke directly with Ramota, who told her that she did not see any mermaid, but that it was people who changed her story.

The PPRO said there were many creatures in the ocean, adding that what the fish seller saw could have been one of them but certainly not a mermaid.

Meanwhile, it was overheard that the mermaid had been taken to the house of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arisekola-Alao, in Ibadan.

All efforts to get Aare Arisekola-Alao on phone failed, as he did not pick his call but one of his aides, who did not want his name in print, confirmed that it was a big crayfish that was brought to Aare Arisekola’s gate and not a mermaid.

He said the people who came around were turned back, adding that Arisekola-Alao did not see the crayfish.

A traditionalist, Dr Olowoglass by name, said he was born into traditional worship over 60 years ago and had never heard that a mermaid visited someone in the manner being broadcast around.

He said the president of traditionalists told him that he had seen the purported mermaid and could not say whether it was a mermaid or not.

dadd2: Not taking away anything from the boy, i think frank helped him out once on a maths question and he failed a question that was adjudged to be correct when he was asked the location of mexico he said it was in south America instead of North America though he used a lifeline to answer that question. Honestly, I'm not a kill joy but just want the programme organizer to take note of that error. Infact, i watched the programme with my two sons aged 8 and 10 years old respectively, they thought i goofed when i told them that Mexico is in North America. I had to get them a ball world map before i could convince them that Mexico is actually in North America.

The question was “Mexico is located on which side of The United States of America?” The correct answer is South, the boy got it right.
Although Mexico is in North America. It is bordered on the north by the United States, meaning it is in the south using United States of America as a point of reference.

please guys, which application is available to make voice or video call on playbook over bridge? i am traveling to Nigeria in few weeks time and from what i have read from this thread so far,the cheapest way to stay connected through out my one month stay will be through blackberry smartphone + playbook.i have a laptop and a netbook but i really dont think i will be needing them or what do you think?.So guys,if i buy a blackberry smartphone (probably touch) and a playbook and subscribe to MTN BIS unlimited data plan, will that be enough to keep me connected?
Basically i will like to be able to read my mails and reply them,i will also like to be able to surf the net and make calls probably with skype/YIM or any other available app that can make voice or video call.

Romance / Re: Importance Of Body Beauty In Choosing A Partner by Davedavy: 3:34pm On Jan 12, 2013
I think one should be attracted to his/her partner, there are lots of attractive girls with equally good characters.I cant be with someone I'm not physically attracted to.Marrying a woman you are not attracted to solely because of her character is suicidal likewise marrying a beauty queen without character is also suicidal, there should be a balance.
