Imattertoo:
Hello all, greetings to you all from wherever you are. My present condition is pushing me to take a hard decision that I am not sure of what the outcome will be like. I have been without a job for a while now after losing the previous and living in a hard economy like Nigeria without a job, it's better imagined than experience. It's hell. It's hard and very hard on me. I have been putting in efforts to secure a new job but to no avail as at today.
Lagos - the land of opportunities
I don't have a brother, sister, cousin, relative or anyone staying in Lagos, neither am I with any money to rent an apartment but I want to leave where I am currently and move to Lagos in search of employment with no specific place in mind.

Note: I haven't been to Lagos before. So this will be my first time...a total stranger

My motivation is that I shouldn't die in one place while they may be opportunities for me out there. I should make move and that move can be the game changer. One can meet people outside whom he doesn't relate in anyway and get help. So I believe there's someone out there who can help me secure a job. Employment is going on everyday in this country but if you don't have someone to fix you, it's as if you are non-existing, wasting away your youthful years.

I have a National Diploma and first degree with some certifications and relevant skills.

Like I said, the outcome of the decision is unpredictable as I have no knowledge about Lagos terrain.
Please, I need your brotherly advice. Should I move to Lagos even when I don't have anywhere to stay or I should bury the thought, since the street is hostile out there? I fear for my life too. What would you advise me?
Please and please, do not move to Lagos!

Family › Re: How I Managed To Convince My Neighbor Who Wanted To Commit Suicide. by dawnomike(m): 5:51pm On Feb 12
Toolegit123:
Good day everyone.

Recently I got a call from a female neighbor of mine, telling me I should rush home. And I was like--"what's wrong?". But before I could ask,she had already ended the call. That was how the conversation between me and my two bottles of Heineken at madam-Baddo's bush bar was cut short angry

I hurriedly boarded an okada and got home. To my greatest surprise,I saw a huge crowd gathered at the front of my compound. That was when I was told it was another neighbor,a guy in his early 30's who wanted to commit suicide sad. And since most of the neighbors around were all women,so they thought it'd be nice to call all the male neighbor to come and break into his apartment because he had already locked his door before he wanted to do the act.

Well,as the gentleman I'm,I went to his window and saw the young man sitting on the floor of his kitchen, holding a knife and had already cut his hands. On the inside of me,I knew I wasn't the right therapist to talk to someone who's got suicidal thoughts on him out of it,but I just have to at least try my best to angry. I spoke to him,and gave him some words of encouragement and motivation, and even used myself as an example. After all,he was around and a living witness of how I managed to survived my own predicaments, ranging from failed business transactions and failed relationships sagas. But how I managed to survived all of them still remains a mystery to me,up till this moment.

Finally,I was able to convince him,and he came out. While everyone was hailing and singing my praises,I was wondering what coulda brought such thoughts upon a Young Man in the first place? Seriously I didn't care to ask what was the reason behind it,but I know for sure that no matter how and what it may be,it wasn't worth it.

Yesterday,he came to me to show appreciation cheesy. At least, for once,I felt relieved knowing I'm the reason someone's still sipping in air cheesy. The dude and his fiancee brought a tuber of yam for me and as I'm typing this, I'm equally waiting for my own fiancee to come back from work and do justice to the yam.

So,My fellow dear Nairalanders,no matter how and what life might had thrown at you, please feel free to talk to someone about it. Don't feel abandoned. Don't give in. The help you seek may just be a second away from you. And finally, suicide should never be an option.

Please let's do justice to this thread.

Saleslourd:
I was in JSS 3 when it went down. Our hood had a “tough guy”: Lateef. Big, loud, always flexing—“nobody messes with my crew,” he’d say.

Then came the day the Yahoo boy messed up.

This boy let’s call him Jojo had scammed some foreigners in a 419. Cashed out, vanished. But the people he scammed? They weren’t random. They were local boys, younger than me, who’d “invested” in Jojo’s “business.” So they showed up, shouting for Jojo “give us our money!

Lateef heard the noise, stormed out. “Who the hell you yelling at in my compound?” he barked. The boys told him straight: “We ain’t here for you—we want Jojo.” But Lateef, ever the “protector,” wouldn’t back down. “You touch my boy, you touch me,” he said. And with that, he went for a fight.

That’s when the knives came out.

The boys didn’t hold back. They stabbed Lateef—again, again, again—till he crumpled. His last move? Clinging to the youngest attacker’s leg, desperate, as life drained out. By the time they got him to the hospital after first dragging him to the police, he was gone.

The next day, The Punch ran it: “Tough Man Killed by Youths.” But here’s the kicker no paper mentioned: Jojo didn’t even show up. He vanished that day. And now? He’s back. Walks our hood, laughs with the same crew, like nothing happened.

Lateef’s grave’s overgrown. His family still cries. But Jojo? Free.

That’s the lesson I carry: Life’s not fair. Power’s a lie. And sometimes, the ones who start the fire don’t even get singed.

Protect you. Because in the end, nobody’s coming to save you—least of all the ones you’re trying to protect.
A very important life lesson...

Family › Re: How Do I Convice My Wife To Have An Abortion, Without Losing Her by dawnomike(m): 7:05am On Feb 04
mikejones07:
Please bear with me I created a new account to remain anonymous.

Greetings everyone. I am currently facing a very difficult situation and would appreciate some guidance.

I have been married for ten years, and my wife and I have two wonderful boys. Like any marriage, we’ve had our challenges, but we have always worked through them and made things work. I have been the sole financial provider for our family.

In early 2025, we relocated to a new country and have been gradually settling in. When we arrived, we both found employment, but unfortunately, my wife’s lost her job. Since then, she has been passively searching for work and has been quite selective about the type of job she is willing to take, but so far she hasn’t received any interviews.

After the birth of our second child, I clearly communicated that I did not want to have any more children. I encouraged my wife to use contraception, which she agreed to, and I frequently asked for reassurance that it was still effective because I was certain I did not want another child. I must say I messed up here, I too should have had a vasectomy.
Last week, she told me she had missed her period. We took a pregnancy test, which came back positive, and a scan today confirmed that she is six weeks pregnant. She is very excited about the pregnancy, but I am deeply distressed and unsure how to express my concerns without causing harm.

I do not want another child because of the financial, emotional, and mental strain it would place on me. I am 39 years old, and my wife is 33. Being pregnant will also make it even more difficult for her to find employment, she I have been encouraging her to. At the moment, I am fully responsible for all household expenses, including rent, utilities, and food. Throughout our ten years together, I've carried 100% of the financial burden and was happy doing so, even during the times she was working. I never pressured her or asked for anything in return We live in a rented basement and have no support system in this new country—all our family members are back home. When I asked her to explain her reasons for wanting to keep the baby, just emotions and wanting to have a baby girl. She even requested a scan picture of the fetus afterwards we saw a radiographer. Pushing for an appointment

I strongly believe in being able to adequately provide for my children, including their future education, whether college or medical school. Adding another child would significantly increase the pressure on me and delay any sense of financial stability or retirement. I am content with the two sons we have and feel that another child would limit my ability to be fully present and supportive for them.

When I shared my concerns and mentioned the possibility of an abortion, my wife became very upset and started crying. I am worried that pressuring her could lead to resentment, and I do not want to force her into a decision. At the same time, I feel that my situation and perspective are not being fully considered.

I am struggling to find a way for her to truly understand my point of view while also respecting her feelings, and I am unsure what the best next step should be. I love my wife but this is too much on me.
I understand you brother because I've been in your shoes before. Please, keep there baby.
It will not beef easy but you will figure things out with time and one day, you'll be glad and proud you kept your baby. Please Endure this period

Very POWERFUL machine.

The US has 11 of such Nuclear-Powered Aircraft carriers.
The NEXT person is France with just ONE.

Russia does NOT have.
China is still BUILDING theirs.

In the meantime, America has 11.
That's why their Navy is so POWERFUL and VERSATILE.

Where others will have to STOP to refuel, they'll just keep MOVING.
Thanks so much for this enlightenment...

Iexclusivenews:
Naira gains momentum as reserves climb, surge to $46 billion, and reforms deepen
ABUJA, (iexclusivenews)-Nigeria’s naira strengthened to N1,394 per dollar on January 28, 2026, marking its strongest level since May 2024.

The gain occurred in the official foreign exchange market, driven by rising reserves, policy reforms, and improved dollar liquidity.

According to market data, the naira closed at N1,394, improving from N1,409.50 the previous day.

Intraday trading showed a low of N1,392 and an average rate of N1,402, signaling sustained demand support.

The rally follows a steady appreciation from about N1,421 earlier in January.

Analysts link the momentum to Nigeria’s foreign reserves reaching $46 billion, the highest level in eight years.

A Lagos-based currency analyst said the rebound reflects stronger fundamentals.

“Reserve growth gives the central bank more firepower to stabilize supply and manage volatility,” he explained.

Policy reforms have also boosted confidence among investors and exporters.

Recent measures improved transparency, widened participation, and reduced speculative pressure across official trading windows.

However, optimism remains cautious as parallel market rates stay higher.

On the same day, the naira traded between N1,460 and N1,490 per dollar on the street market.

An Abuja-based import trader questioned the real-world impact of the gains.

“The rate looks better on paper, but prices of food and fuel remain painfully high,” she said.

Nigeria’s currency faced severe pressure in 2024, when rates briefly exceeded N1,600 per dollar.

The volatility followed forex backlogs, weak inflows, and policy uncertainty during earlier reforms.

Economists say narrowing the gap between official and parallel markets remains critical.

A financial economist at a private university noted that convergence builds trust and curbs arbitrage.

“Small moves matter, but consistency matters more for inflation and household welfare,” he added.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows food inflation above 30 percent year-on-year.

As a result, many households have yet to feel relief from exchange-rate improvements.

What happens next?
