99xtr69r:I don't bother reading your copied and pasted comments again because they are issues I have trashed repeatedly. Uneme people remain your masters in Nigeria as you have now made yourselves the slaves of the SS. Until you accept the truth that Igbos sold the South to the North in 1959 you will never have peace. IPOB, MASSOB, etc will only rant but can't remove even one Igbo LGA away from Huasa-Fulani your slave masters. Nigeria has always been a BIAREWA (Biafra/Arewa) Republic and so it will forever be. Zik sealed it before he died. The ghost of zik will never allow Biafra materialize. Live with it. |
[.....................................................[/b]by Igboid: 6:07pm On Jun 22 " 4. Biafran soldiers only passed through the Midwest because that was the only route to Lagos, the Nigerian military headquarters, and by the way, Okonkwo was a Midwestern, are you by any means suggesting that only Edos were entitled to being appointed the leaders in Midwest, I remember that before the coup, the premier of Midwest was an Igbo too. 5. Is Edo not an annex of the Hausa-Fulani dominated Nigeria today? Even though I know that there was never a way the East would have annexed Edoland, empire building is not the Igbo man trait, the Biafra annexing Edo ish is a product of the Edos ignorance induced hallucinations, seeing that all the dead Bini empire knew how to do in the past was to annex surrounding clans unto itself, she naturally expect her own worst behavior of others. Newsflash: Bia***ns fought a war of survival and not annexation, at no point was mid west part of Bia***** during the war".........................................................................[/quote]These your claims above are hogwash. Were Edoid towns like, Warri, Sapele, Auchi, Igarra, Lampese, which Ojukwu invaded and occupied also along the east-west road leading to Lagos the military HQ? Biafra was purely an expansionist drive. Okonkwo was a Miwesterner who was loyal to the Biafran side against the neutrality of the Midwest. So Ojukwu's preference for him over other neutral Midwestern officers made it clear that Ojukwu was out to annex all Edos' and Edoids' land to Biafra. Igbos are themselves annex of Hausa Fulanis right now more than everyone else as long as they still remain in Nigeria. The Nri Kingdom too was not innocent of annexing adjacent lands and peoples. Only a fool will have a foreign army forcefully take over the capital city of his region and not suspect a desire annex it. Why could Ojukwu not simply consult any single person before invading the Midwest seat of power? What stopped him from simply passing through Benin for entirely transitory purpose and heading straight for Lagos? Was the Benin seat of government situated right on the East-West expressway to warrant Biafrans soldiers ever entering it and spending months there? And you say it was not for annexation? Shame to logical reasoning! |
99xtr69r:I will keep punishing you with the truth that Igbos sold the South into slavery under the North and that every other thing that followed happened while other southerners were trying to free themselves from the Hausa-Fulani bondage which Igbos sold them into. You can keep talking of Aburi Accord till you die. Even Ojukwu himself did not fulfil his own part of the accord. From the video of the proceedings at Aburi it was clear that Ojukwu never went there genuinely seeking for confederacy but just attended in fulfilment of all righteousness while really only seeking for war. He never smiled throughout the meeting even though the rest attendees made friendly gestures to him. Don't tell me his refusal to smile was because of the massacre of Igbos. No! He had been smiling before then and forcing others back into Nigeria while Igbos were being massacred the previous year while he and Ironsi were in power. Even early in 1967 shortly before Aburi meeting he still smiled and twice sent back to the North those Igbos who managed to escape home from the pogroms over there. |
Igboid:The truth is that Igbos still promote one-Nigeria affinity more than everyone else till today. It is on record that the only place in the South whose delegates to the last confab rejected a return to the four unit regional system is Ebonyi State. Igbos are only crying secession because they are not in charge of Nigeria. When Igbos had been murdered in thousands in 1945, 1953 and 1956, Ironsi and Ojukwu never thought of Biafra because they were still in power despite the May 1966 massacre of Igbos happened while they still were in charge. So no one can convince me that Biafra is conceived upon a desire of freedom from oppression. It is rather conceived upon bitterness generated by not being in charge of that oppressive establishment any longer. If an Igbo man becomes president today and start enjoying the "One-Nigeria" fraud once more he will criminalize secession, bomb NDA hideouts, make it a crime for anyone to say "Bia..... ", release Nnamdi Kanu and sternly warn him against disturbing the peace of "One-Nigeria", etc just the way Ironsi and Ojukwu did in 1966 before they changed tune due to Ironsi's dethronement. If the secession clause was allowed by Zik the Jan 1966 coup would not have happened because even Zik himself later wanted it when his marriage with Northerners began to boomerang on him, and he openly declared that " We should part in peace and not in pieces". He obviously said so out of regret and afterthought. Had he allowed the clause he would not have so lamented but simply referred to the constitution to kick start signature taking and he would have got the support of the GOC who was his boy and admirer and an Igbo for that matter. Also the whole South already suffering from Northern onslaught would have voted for secession together with middle belt who had equally lost loyalty to the Core North at that moment. Recall also that as of then the army was highly professional and so well committed to constitutionalism that even with an Igbo man as its overall head the army bluntly referred Zik to the constitution when Zik tried to illegally stall the second inauguration of Balewa. So such as army would have as well obliged to secession referendum had Zik allowed it into the constitution. According to Nzeogwu, the five majors struck because they wanted confederacy as a means to further weaken the centre .... meaning that had secession clause (the major feature of confederacy) been allowed by Zik, there would have been no coup thus Ironsi would not have come to power, and Gowon too would not have come to power, and only civilians would have ruled and would have allowed for referendum for any part that demanded secession. After all the Balewa government, bad as it was, was still far more democratic than Ironsi's and Gowon's rules. Simple! |
99xtr69r:You are simply confused. Did Enahoro, Oba Akenzua and Asiodu all attend Aburi meeting? The Aburi meeting was originally scheduled for Benin City but Ojukwu refused claiming he would be killed by Benin people who had hitherto not demonstrated any animosity towards him. So how would Edos have trusted such a person? Was it not Igbos that first worked against the Southern interest by deciding to align with the North in 1959 to form the evil NPC-NCNC coalition which Igbos in collusion with Hausa-Fulanis used to jail fellow Southerners? In 1979 Igbos colluded with Hausa-Fulani to form the NPN-NPP coalition which was used to harass fellow Southerners. In 1999 Igbos colluded with the Katsina Mafia again against fellow southerners to form PDP which was used to kill people in Odi, and commit a lot of atrocities against southern minorities. All these your repeated copy and paste lies will not change the truth that Igbos were the ones who sold the South to the north due to their unbridled greed to play second fiddle to Hausa-Fulani Oligarchy. All other ugly events were consequent upon that first sell out by Igbos in 1959. Simple! |
Igboid:From the beginning Enahoro was pro-peaceful and bloodless seccesion and anti-bloody secession. Ojukwu's approach was a matter of bloodshed so he rejected it as a matter of principles. Enahoro placed lives of innocent civilians over political expediency while Ojukwu placed political expediency over innocent lives. Go figure. What did Ojukwu achieve for his people too after the war? If Ndigbo are shining in "One-Nigeria", then why are they complaining of marginalization everyday now? Zik deceived Ndigbo by initially supporting Biafra but later abandoned them for the side of "One-Nigeria" after "One-Nigeria" had killed over 3 million Igbos. GEJ adopted Azikiwe's name and with that lost an election. The Zik of Africa and "One Nigeria" died as Owele of Onitsha. Even Ojukwu your hero and Zik's brother refused to attend Zik's burial but attended that of Awolowo - Zik's arch enemy. Ojukwu was given military honour as a pardoned military rebel by "One-Nigeria" Army and not necessarily national honour. He was a celebrated prodigal child by his father called "One-Nigeria". It was a family affair between him and "One-Nigeria". Enahoro was never a son of "One-Nigeria" at any time so you don't expect "One- Nigeria" to celebrate a stranger to "One-Nigeria". Just let "One-Nigeria" attempt to celebrate Enahoro and see how we Edoids will rebuff it unlike Igbos who quickly accept such thinking it's a mark of prestige. You are now celebrating the fact that the very "One-Nigeria" you've been calling a fraud celebrates Zik by putting his image in N500 note, named Airports after him, etc? Yet you want to seceed from that same fraud you are celebrating. Is that not hypocrisy and self contradiction? A son (Fashola) of the Yorubas you so hate is set to on behalf of "One Nigeria" complete Zik mausoleum for you and you are celebrating it. Your celebration of Zik's honours by "One-Nigeria" and Hausas vindicates those of us who have always insisted that your call for secession is not sincere but just to draw attention towards placing you people back in the mainstream with Hausas in Nigeria's affairs as it was before, so that you could simply resume your enjoyment of the fraud. It shows clearly that you yourselves, deep down in your minds, don't actually want to exit Nigeria but to get back to relevance within the scheme of things; and not any Edoids or Yorubas holding you back. Even your own Chinua Achebe rejected all honours offered him by the fraud called one Nigeria. It also proves that even Edoids change their minds to seek seccession violently in concert with Igbos, Igbos could later betray Edoids in the middle of the course if Hausas suddenly begin to honour all their leaders and starts giving them important positions like Vice President, COAS, defence minister and control over all the most powerful ministries. We all remember how they kept sealed lips over Biafra and even kept condemning Uwazurike while people like Dora, Ezekwesili, ihejirika, NOI and other Igbos held high positions in "one Nigeria" under a Yoruba man called OBJ and Hausa man called Atiku. I on the other hand am happy that "One Nigeria" has not accorded Enahoro any immortalization because a fraud like "One-Nigeria" has no honour to dispense honour. One Nigeria can't give what it does not have. We Edoids yearly organize our own celebrations of Enahoro and never accept honours for him from the "one Nigeria" of Hausas and Igbos which jailed him unjustly and repeatedly. Honour from a fraudulent entity is a fraudulent honour. Igbos can keep celebrating the fraudulent honours Zik got and is still getting from "One-Nigeria" thus they will keep exposing their insincerity about secession and keep vindicating Edoids who insist that they never genuinely believed in it in the first instance and so up till today despite all their cries of Biafra. By preventing Ijaw secession, Ojukwu also forestalled the prospect of secession of all southern minorities who would obviously have taken a clue from a peaceful Ijaw secession to pull themselves out too. After all everyone except Igbos were already fed up with "One-Nigeria". Of all the Southern minority tribes the Ijaws were the most represented in the army. So they naturally were the boldest to declare a republic for other southern minorities to follow suit in case Ojukwu and Ironsi did not stop them. That is how my tribe and others come into the Ojukwu versus Ijaw war. |
Igboid:The point with my mention of Ethiopia is to disprove your over exaggeration of the powers of foreign armies to impose themselves on Africans in any form against the wish of Africans themselves. If they did not succeed in imposing their will on Ethiopia due to Ethiopia's unanimous rejection of their will despite Ethiopia's inferior military might to theirs, then they would not have been able to successfully impose "One-Nigeria" on Nigerians had Zik and Igbos all joined other parts of Nigeria to make the rejection of "One-Nigeria" unanimous. When all tribes in Nigeria finally and unanimously agreed to independence Britain could not but succumb. So it would have as well been had Zik and Igbos joined others to allow secession clause. The Ijaws were brought in by me as an example to puncture your claim that the presence of Britain scared Zik and other Igbos into working against secession at the initial stages. I then had to cite the case of Ojukwu preventing Ijaw secession even after Britain had long left to prove that Igbos hatred for secession at the initial stage had nothing to do with the presence/absence or approval/disapproval of Britain but had all to do with the fact that they were in power together with Hausa-Fulanis and benefiting mostly from "One-Nigeria" and therefore did not want the status quo tampered with. When they lost power at the centre they forgot that British "disapproval and might" was still hovering around thus began to ask for secession. Edoids' position on secession has always been the same, and it has not changed till today. It is that it should never be by bloodshed or genocide. That is why they have consistently refused to use violence to seek it the way Ijaws and Igbos did in 1966 and 1967 respectively. In pre-amalgamation times no tribe in Africa dared Edoids. But in an amalgamated Nigeria Edoids had become averse to violence and conquest, and had become used to modern and civilised ways of life and thus never used or believed in violence again and consistently do not still believe in it till today owing much to the fact that compared with both Igbos and Ijaws they were disproportionately too few in army before and after independence and even up till now 2016. So how could a people who knew they didn't have the military back up take an option which required full scale violence? It does not make sense. And that was why they quickly ahead of time demanded that it be put in the constitution as they knew they had no military men to later help them fight a bloody fight for secession in case Nigeria later got misgoverned. Igbos initially rejected secession, not because they were not aware that Nigeria was a fraud, but because they were benefiting most from the "One-Nigeria" fraud and also knew they had the wherewithal (huge membership of the army) to later help them fight to break Nigeria up violently in case anything later unexpectedly happened to remove them from power and cut short their enjoyment of "One-Nigeria" fraud. And so it really happened. If it is sensible to use violence when you don't have the military back up, then why are Nmamdi Kanu and Uwazurike now using purely civil means now that the number of Igbos have been badly reduced in the Nigerian army to the same number as Edoids in it? It is natural. And that is why Edoids have been, in their usual belief in civil and constitutional ways, asking for a sovereign national conference which will either re-make or peacefully break Nigeria so that everyone goes solo without genocide. Edoids, unlike, Igbos can't afford to lose 3 million lives trying to correct the blunder Igbos made. That will be too expensive to bear. Let me remind you that a far larger percentage of Ijaws are, just like, Edoids not seeking violent secession at all but true federalism which we initially had but later botched by Igbos. MEND, Dokubo, Boylaf, Ateke Tom, Tompolo, Henry Okha, etc have never asked for secession despite their violence. And mind you that in 1966 Ijaws sought secession not from Nigeria per say but from the Eastern Region due to Igbo oppression. NDA on the other hand is yet an experiment which looks more politically motivated by GEJ's loss than anything else. Even GEJ himself never believes in secession. So your claim that Ijaws are asking for secession is highly flawed. Even igboids of the SS like Wike, Okowa, etc have openly dissociated themselves from violent seccession, and that does not make them appologists of "One-Nigeria". They are just being sensible and realistic. Edoids and Yorubas are not necessarily trying to hold Igbos back in Nigeria as a punitive measure for their prevention of the upholding of the secession clause. No! They are only not interested in using violence to seek secession from "One-Nigeria". Igbos obviously want blood, but all other tribes don't. Not even all Igbos are into this call for bloody secession. Some sensible ones are, like Edoids and Yorubas, asking for a restructured constitution that will allow peaceful secession. Does that make such Igbos "One-Nigeria" appologists? |
Igboid:But Eritrea was not held back by Britain, and that punctures you claim that Britain was wholly responsible for Zik's gaffes. There is now way ojukwu and Ijaws can be separated from the issue of secession in Nigeria. I thought you were going to prove to me that Ojukwu was aided by Britain to crush Isaac Boro's NDR. But seeing that it punctured your arguement of British influence you decide to call it a diversion. Of course Zik was responsible for forcefully keeping Nigeria together with British support whose only condition was that one region rejected it. You can insult Enahoro as you like, but that does not change the fact that he protected his people. If protecting his people was foolishness then no wonder Zik remains wise in your eyes despite the fact that he never at any time publicly expressed displeasure with the massacre of his own brothers even before the war....i.e. in 1945 and 1953 in Jos and Kanu respectively but was so fully consumed with his desperation to rule Nigeria and become Zik of Africa. A man who, despite his status and influence, was ready to keep sealed lips over his own people's massacre just in order to avoid jeopardising his chances of becoming venerated with a meaningless title is the most foolish man Nigeria ever had. Your claim that Enahoro and Akenzua allowed themselves to British footsoldiers is flawed for the following reasons: 1. Whose foot soldier was Zik when he crossed over from the Biafra side to the Nigeria side? 2. Whose foot soldier was Isaac Boro for taking vengeance on Ojukwu? 3. Whose foot soldier was Ojukwu when he prevented the actualization of Boro's NDR? Your claim that Enahoro was not sincere about secession since Igbos later offered him and he rejected it is a product of shallow thought. Why would Enahoro accept a poisoned chalice from a people who were offering him a gift based on afterthought? Why would Enahoro accept an offer for "secession" from a people who without any prior consultation or negotiation just invaded his region, burst into the government house and gave the sitting governor a fatal chase? Was that how to really and truthfully offer secession to a person or just an attempt to annex his region to theirs? Of course it was better for Edos to remain trapped in the Nigeria contraption than to be "free" as an annex of Biafra. If it was truly an offer of secession why did Ojukwu impose Okonkwo, an Igbo man, on a people he came to really liberate? Were there no Edos he could use? That was clearly an expansionist drive and not an offer for secession at all. If without British involvement Biafra soldiers took over Edo territory illegally and without prior consultation then why do you still claim that there is no knowing if Ndigbo would have become foot soldiers against Edos and Edoids? The reverse is even more the case as Edos never invaded igboland even in the face of Igbo military aggression. Enahoro was not necessarily after paying Ndigbo back, but of priority to him was the innocent lives of his people. Igbos caused the whole problem by staging a bloody and loopsided coup which itself was treasonable, and they had to suffer the consequences. There was no Edo man in the plot. So why would Enahoro place the life of Edos on the line just to look like a 'bold' and 'brave' man and a non-Britain's foot soldier in the eyes of Igbos but looking extremely stupid in the eyes of Edos his own brothers? It does not make sense at all. Only Zik loved outsider more than his own people in pursuit of nationalist accolades. Was Enahoro an army officer with military training to have declared secession like Ojukwu did? How many Edos were in the Nigerian army for Enahoro to rally for war like how Igbos had hundreds in the army then and whom Ojukwu banked on to declare secession? Enahoro was a civilian and the only means civilians realize their ambitions is through sponsoring motions or bills for constitutional provisions and ammendments and not violence. Enahoro also followed the constitutional procedure in moving the motion for independence as he could not have, as a pure civilian, declared it by himself. A civilian's ways are poles apart from a soldiers approach to issues. We voted Enahoro into position to do our will and protect our best interests, and he did exactly that for us. Enahoro died a fulfilled man. How was he used and dumped? Zik and Igbos were used against the South by the North through the NPC-NCNC unholy alliance, dumped by the North and then killed by the North with British support which Zik tapped into to perpetuate "One-Nigeria". The one Nigeria Ojukwu fought to preserve by crushing Isaac Boro's NDR later came and massacred millions of his own brothers before his very eyes. So who is more used and dumped between Enahoro on one side and Ojukwu and Zik on the other side? |
Igboid:I may not be able to speak for Yorubas, but I can confidently tell you that the fact that Edos were and are still a minority both in the military and among the civilian population compared with the three big WaZoBia tribes, and that Edos are geographically sandwiched between Igbos, Yorubas and Arewa made Enahoro fear that Edoland would obviously be the battle frontline between the big three in a bloody secession war and thus Edo would have more percentage population to lose than any other tribe, hence his proactive proposal of that secession clause which would have guaranteed a secession without a gunshot or a drop of blood. Enahoro was that far sighted. Only Zik was completely blinded by misguided optimism even while his own kinsmen had already started being massacred by the very Northerners he was seeking "One-Nigeria" with. A man (Enahoro) who was so wise and so much averse to possible massacre of his own people would never have later endangered those very people's lives by violently declaring a republic after his earlier suggestion for a peaceful way to it was rejected and mocked as a tribalist for making such a demand. He could not have declared such a republic when he knew that, compared with WaZoBia tribes, his tribe had no officers in the army to prosecute any war that could have resulted. If Enahoro had tried it, Edos would have been the victims of the genocide that later befell Igbos, and you know what that means. Posterity vindicated Enahoro. |
Igboid:You are over-exaggerating the influence of Western world powers. When Ethiopia was united against colonization were the colonialists able to colonize them against their own will? When Eritrea decided to later pull out of Ethiopia could any foreign power hold them back in Ethiopia? Were foreign powers able to hold South Sudan back with North Sudan? The problem with Nigeria's was not British might but internal hypocrisy on the paths of both the North and East as the East first preached "One -Nigeria" in defiance to stark reality but later turned around to ask for secession when that reality they ignored began to hit them hard, while the North which initially asked for araba (break up) later began to preach "One-Nigeria" because something bigger than groundnut had just been found. These were the cracks in the wall which Britain capitalized on. Without these hypocrisies in place Britain would not have found any portal of entry into the issue. All Britain needed was just one side to be against break up and they always found it in the East and North at different times. |
Igboid:You did not answer my question. Had the North too stubbornly refused to listen to Britain but insisted on Araba at the same time Ojukwu declared Biafra would Britain have declared a war against Ojukwu and Gowon simultaneously? Britain did not force Gowon to drop Araba idea. No! They only persuaded Gowon by educating him on the benefits of crude oil that had just been found in the Eastern Region. Remember that the same Britain also persuaded Aguyi Ironsi to make sure Nigeria remains and Aguyi Ironsi, obviously an admirer of Zik and all that Zik stood for, went ahead and promulgated anti-secession decree. The Ojukwu who later wanted secession was himself guilty of holding back Isaac Boro's Niger Delta Republic from seceeding. Was it Britain that forced Ojukwu to hold Isaac Boro back? If yes, then why did Ojukwu later seek for his own secession knowing fully well that the same Britain would not allow it? If It was really Britain that made Ojukwu and Ironsi hold Isaac Boro back, then Ojukwu himself would not have later ever contemplated secession as that same Britain was still around the corner to successfully thwart his own too. |
Igboid:Are you suggesting that if the three regions had all agreed to go their separate ways,or at least all unanimously agreed to the secession clause Britain would have refused and then just start shooting and killing Nigerians and the UNO and other world powers would be watching? When Ojukwu later declared secession was it Britain that fought him back or Northern Nigeria for selfish interest? If, in response to Ojukwu's declaration of Biafra, Gowon had simply congratulated Ojukwu and wished him and his new Republic well, would Britain have come to force Biafra back into Nigeria? If the fear of Britain's repercussion was what informed Zik's dislike for anything secession then how come Enahoro who proposed the clause was not aware of the possibility of British repercussion? Zik's dislike for secession was not a matter of fear of Britain but of a deep (though erroneous) personal conviction that an intact Nigeria would be better than a dismembered NIgeria. It was still the same desperation for an intact Nigeria that made him accept the NPC-NCNC (East-North) alliance to the rejection of the all South (NCNC-NDC-AG) alliance which, in his own words, would not augur well for national unity as it would leave the North out in the cold and therefore lead to early split of Nigeria as Ahmadu Bello had already threatened would be the consequence of the North not handling power post independence. If at all Zik had any fear, it was fear (not trepidation) of Ahmadu Bello and not fear of Britain. All Zik's public speeches back then were full of boldly expressed aversion for anything that smelled of secession, but clearly indicated genuine and passionate belief in one-Nigeria. None of them indicated he was pretending about it just for fear of Britain, except you are now trying to convince me he was an excellent pretender. Zik so much believed in "One-Nigeria" that he not only hated the mention of confederation but even feared that federalism (which even Britain granted) was as well loose enough to later give way to secession, hence his belief in only unitary system which is the system most insulated from secession. |
Igboid:You are very funny. You missed my argument completely. Was the secession clause which Enahoro and Awolowo proposed going to take effect while Britain was still around or after their departure with their military might? It was targeted to be used in future after the colonial masters must have left and would therefore not be able to force back into Nigeria anyone which wanted to seceed. |
Babacele:Thank you. They think Edo people reason like other Nigerians. They keep watching and seeing events in Edo State but they never understand. What they don't know about Edo State politics is that anything associated with Lucky and Anenih is seen as evil. In 2012 despite General Charles was not known to have been part of the 8 year ruin of Lucky and Anenih, yet he was rejected just because he was seen as Anenih's face in that election. Is it Ize Iyamu who was an integral part of Lucky/Anenih locust years that Edos will now vote for? Edo people don't forgive in politics. In 2012 General Charles was beaten black and blue in all the 7 LGAs in Edo South and even in his pollen booth. That put paid to the theory of Beninism in Edo politics. They think Edo is Rivers or Bayelsa. They forget that it was in Edo State that Obasanjo's rigging machine first developed fault in 2007/2008. |
EdoBoy90:Thanks. I am seriously amused by the analyses being made by non-Edolites here particularly those from the East. Before now they had been saying Edo is not really a SS state but now their song has changed to "PDP is SS and SS in PDP" just because they want Edo to fall back into PDP. It is even more shocking for a stranger on NL to claim that Edo Central (with 500,000 2006 census figure) is more populated than Edo North (with 1.1 million 2006 census figure). They claim Edo Central is PDP stronghold but they have not bothered to ask themselves why PDP is indisposed to giving its ticket to Edo Central but to Edo South despite the fact that after Igbinedion (Edo South) followed by Oshiomhole (Edo North), fairness and balance dictates that it is the turn of Edo Central. Even in 2012 PDP still gave its ticket to Edo South (Airhiavbare) instead of Edo Central as dictated by Zoning. They also forget that PDP lost to ACN in all the five Edo Central LGAs in 2012 election. They claim Obaseki is not a grassroots man as if Oshiomhole himself had any grassroots whatever in 2007 when he contested and won. Edo state does not vote on any kind of primordial sentiments or mundane factors like grassroots, looks or stomach infrastructure but based on reality on ground. Osunbor was very handsome but he lost to Oshiomhole. Edo remains the state least influenced by sentiments in voting. |
As long as Igbos remain guiltiest of the act of preventing the dissolution of this forced marriage at a time it would have been easiest to dissolve without a single bloodshed or gunshot and at a time all other tribes sought it , then the Igbos have most of the work to do as well as most of the sacrifice to make towards dissolving it now that it can't be done peacefully and without blood. Other tribes are even more eager than Igbos to have this British marriage end. What they are however not ready for is to sacrifice their blood to press for a dissolution for Igbos to benefit from after having prevented it at a time it would have been without blood or bullets. I can't sacrifice my own blood seeking for the freedom of another person who mocked me and called me names at a time I was first to ask for the same freedom he too now seeks so desperately. It does not make sense. We'll all patiently wait as "nationalists" which they claimed to be for preventing our freedom. If however they are able to successfully accelerate the freedom with their own blood we will welcome it and congratulate them. |
Igboid:What are you saying? I said Enahoro and Awolowo proposed the inclusion of secession clause in the conference held towards the independence constitution and Zik's NCNC rejected it with the support of Britain which wanted Nigeria to remain for them to economically exploit. How does that mean that I alleged that Britain granted any region the power to seceed and Zik refused? If Britain granted the right to secession then why would Awo and Enahoro still be proposing it? You asked how could Zik a civilian force Yorubas and Hausas not to seceed? Zik's military back up was Britain which wanted Nigeria to remain. As a pure civilian Awolowo had no military skills or training, and also had no command over the army. So how could he have on his own just declared independence for the West the way Ojukwu (a soldier) did? Of course he had to be afraid of the British repercussion which he knew would be bloody and lead to the massacre of his own kinsmen. It would have simply been stupid for him to seek secession in a manner that would cause bloodshed when a bloodless option could be used which involved seeking to have it in the constitution first. And that was why he pressed for secession to be part of the constitution first so that he might later get it through the non-violent means of referendum as normally expected of a civilian. But Zik was so fascinated by "One Nigeria" that he gave no thought to the possibility of future misgovernance that could justify the need for any part to seceed. So he did not want to hear about federalism or confederation. So whoever preached confederacy, he saw as a tribalist. It was sheer buffonrey for Zik to have so believed that a country of over 400 tribes with opposing cultures would be a bed of roses and would be so perfectly governed that there was no need to have secession clause in the constitution to make a very bloodless break up possible. If I may ask you, why did Ojukwu in his notes on Nigeria describe Zik as a dreamer but described Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo as hard headed realists? See comments from the President of Ohanezee; I guess you are going to say that the Old man is a liar. "Again, in 1957 when the British Colonial Government, under intense pressure from Southern politicians pressing for independence, attempted to uncouple the union between the North and South forged through Lord Lugard’s Amalgamation of 1914, with the offer of independence to the three Regions individually provided any two accepted the offer, a political crisis loomed large on the national horizon. The Northern Region, led by the Northern Peoples Congress (NPC) took the position that the North was not ready for that level of political and economic independence. The Western Region, led by Chief Awolowo’s Action Group (AG) promptly, declared its readiness to accept the offer. It was the Igbo-led NCNC that held the balance. It was an issue that could make or break Nigeria if the three Regions chose to go their separate ways to independence. The NCNC leader, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe took the stand that although the Eastern Region was ready to assume the responsibilities of Regional independence, its attainment without the North would lead, in his own words, to the ‘’Balkanization of the Nigeria Nation and conceivably a break-up of the country". Zik's position meant that The Eastern Region would rather suppress it’s appetite for independence and the obvious gains it would entail until the Northern Region was ready. That was how Nigeria Independence was delayed until 1960. In short, the Igbo-led Eastern Region would rather forgo the advancement of its own political economic interests than risk the break-up of Nigeria. Had the Eastern Region opted for Independence at that time, the territory under its control would have comprised in today’s terms the following nine States with their enormous human and natural resources: Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Rivers state. It would also probably include Southern Cameroun with the oil rich Bakassi Peninsula. If not for Zik, by 1960, the three Regions would have become separate sovereign states and there would have been no question of Biafra’s attempted secession in 1967 from a non-existing Nigeria federation and the devastating civil war fought to stop it. |
B2mario:Can you also highlight exactly the roles played by these other officers you listed in addition to the main four Igbo guys who did all the shooting and killing? The coup was an Igbo coup not by the composition of planners but by the tribally biased manner of execution. Please also provide an equally long list of Igbo civilians and Igbo military officers that were killed in the coup, then I'll believe it was planned by Yorubas. |
B2mario:I normally don't give audience to people who can't debate without insults. That you hate Awolowo does not give you a licence to resort to abusive language with anyone who does not share your view about him. How could Hausas have hidden the truth about an issue documented in the US library and British catalogue? You are just too emotional. When Awolowo plotted a coup as a free man outside prison he was found out. Then how could he have plotted a coup from inside prison without being found out? Emotions are clearly overshadowing your logical processes. If you were honest you would have acknowledged that it was even Zik that contributed most to the forceful marriage of Nigeria. In 1954 Northerners declared that they were not ready for independence and that the South should go on its way but Zik decided to have independence delayed till the North was ready to join Nigeria. Also the same Zik vehemently opposed the inclusion of seccession clause in the independence constitution claiming that the unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable. In fact when Enahoro and Awolowo moved a motion for the inclusion of secession clause it was Zik and his followers who mocked them and termed them tribalists who did not love to see a "united" Nigeria. Is Nigeria now united even with the non-inclusion of the clause? When Awolowo wanted secession to be put in the constitution Zik refused and called him a tribalist who did not want "One-Nigeria", so when Zik too later wanted secession Awolowo too refused and opted for "One-Nigeria". If I were in Awolowo's shoes I will do the same. How can you mock me as a tribalist for making a realistic demand and then when you later turn around to ask for that same thing and expect me to support you? I will never support you! |
Dakad:Unfortunately Nigerian's either have no wall they can be pushed to or worse still they have a wall but it is so far away for those in power to successfully push them to. Even if Nigerians are finally pushed to that very far wall of theirs, rather than fight back they'll prefer to just jump over that wall and keep running away this time without any wall ahead anymore. We actually jumped over that wall in 1993 relating to June 12. So we have since then been running freely way without any wall ahead. |
B2mario:I disagree that Yorubas initiated the coup. One thing that was very clear was that both Ifeajuna (the actual arrowhead of the coup) and Nzeogwu had tremendous reverence and respect for Awolowo. Nwobosi (the Ibadan axis commander of the coup) recently granted a press interview in which he declared that among all the leading politicians back then (i.e. Balewa, Bello, Zik, Awolowo, Okpara, Akintola, and Okotie-Eboh) only Awolowo could not be classified as a mediocre hence the original plan of himself, Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu was to kill all those directly and indirectly involved in Awolowo's imprisonment and then free Awolowo and forcefully install him as the prime minister whether he liked it or not. Don't forget that Ifeajuna schooled in UI which was the first University in Nigeria and established by Awolowo. Nzeogwu was a no nonsense and 100% detribalized and ascetic army officer who was disgusted by the governing style of the coalition between Bello, Balewa, Zik, Okotie-Eboh and Akintola, so much that only in Awolowo he saw an excellent alternative. Why those young military men were so convinced of Awolowo remains a puzzle however. So it was clear that it was not really a Yoruba coup but a patriotic coup in conception but tribalized by Ifeajuna at execution stage. |
Aburi "Accord" was medicine after suicide! We were initially practising federalism which everyone was satisfied with and enjoying until Ironsi came and dismantled it against public outcry. This led to a series of events which later placed Ironsi's brothers at the short end of the stick. This made them to start asking for a summit to renegotiate how the country would be returned to the structure which their brother Ironsi unilaterally dismantled against genuine national interest. The summit was finally agreed to be held in Aburi and as the delegates were away attending it, Nigerians back at home were expecting them to return with exactly the federal system they had become used to and enjoying. But on return, both Ojukwu and Gowon brought back confederalism which was altogether strange to Nigerians. The agreements said NOTHING about the return of power to civilians, it said NOTHING about conducting fresh elections which Nigerians were all eagerly waiting to hear, etc. All it contained were proposals of regional army (an unprecedented phenomenon worldwide), and proposals of how soldiers from the regions were henceforth going to share powers among themselves and continue to rule Nigeria. That was an entirely military focused confederacy constitution as against the earlier federal one they were expecting. So they saw it for the fraud it was and rightly asked Gowon to reject it. Gowon's reneging on the soldiers focused accord was not for himself but on behalf of majority Nigerians who were expecting federalism but got disappointed. |
Ikechu68:Then why has no Anioma person ever come out publicly to so claim? Can you give us any link to prove that? The deadly truth is that it was even Anioma army officers that colluded with Ojukwu to invade Midwest. If Edos killed Aniomas during the war then why do Aniomas still dedicate certain integral roles to the Oba of Benin's representatives during the coronation of traditional rulers in Anioma land? Those pointed out to the federal forces were Biafran soldiers who were murdering civilians before the FG was invited in by the locals. Edo was initially sympathetic to Biafra until the Biafran soldiers lost courtesy and discipline. |
Ariani:I have never heard or read an Anioma person claim Edos killed them in the War. Only SE Igbos make this claim thus it reeks of mischief and falsehood. Biafran soldiers actually started their bloodletting from Benin on those who supported the openly declared neutrality. Such were tortured, killed, raped (if female) because they were Northerners' friends according to Biafra Soldiers. You obviously are ignorant of Edo culture and value system to be comparing it with Yoruba or even any other tribe in Nigeria. Edo, yes, has aversion for Igbo because of their war aggression on Benin. Edos don't joke with their royal pride as a kingdom, so anything that threatens to undermine their cultural heritage is not tolerated at all. Edo fought itself out of western Region because they could not stomach having Benin their spiritual capital being under Ibadan admistration wise. Same reason why we detest anything biafra as it would place Enugu as capital over Benin. That will be too unacceptable! Politically we flow more with yorubas because we share the same realistic ideology unlike Igbos who ignore reality and fantasize about an idealistic one Nigeria. But remember that Imo state too has always drifted away from mainstream Igbo political leaning towards realistic politicking so much now that APC (assumed Yoruba party) rules it by winning transparent election, and that does not make them Yorubas. Nzeogwu was not even really the coup leader. His name only came to stick on it due to his own unique bravery and genuinely nationalistic intents for the coup. The real leader of the coup was Ifeajuna from today's SE. There was also a Yoruba man among them and they all worked together to kill mostly innocent men, women and unborn children. There was no Edo man in that evil plot. Edos and Edoids generally don't believe in shedding innocent blood especially of outsiders, and that was why David Ejoor never fancied the idea of a coup. So why should Edos and Edoids have allowed themselves to, in the name of protecting Igbos, share in the consequences of a bloodshed they did not participate in? It does not make sense. After all Enahoro was jailed by igbos in collusion with Hausas. Edos associate based on ideology hence Enahoro was first an ally of Zik on sensing his level of education but later had to abandon Zik and move over to Awo's side when he discovered that Zik was not of a stable character. The Jan 1966 coup and Biafra war were all between Hausa, Yorubas and Igbos. Edos and Edoids had no business in them. In fact they declared neutrality which the Federal forces respected but which Biafra dishonoured. If it were a Yoruba army that invaded Benin while ojukwu did not, Enahoro would have joined Ojukwu to flush them out and massacre them. Home interest first before any other. It is in the national archives that Ifeajuna fired Okotie-Eboh but left Zik who actually was his boss in the crime of fraternizing with the north. We have not forgiven. And to be candid we see Igbos as same of the same with the North since they've always aligned more with Hausa-Fulani against the South and more than any other Southern group. We see them as more positively disposed to Hausa-Fulanis and sharing their political value systems than with the South. They may quarrel and kill one another but they soon make it up and come to alliance again. But we find it irritating. So we don't like that North-centric value system in Igbos. |

Ikechu68:Whose is dragging Anioma? You rather tell your brother to stop dragging Edo into his threads and comments. Why did he ever mention my name on this thread? What is my business with Ikwerre and Igbo rivalry? Your brother dragged me first. So tell him to stopp dragging me into his poo. We are not your mates in any way. Simple! |
Ariani:Aha! It's now you are talking. Your attempt to attach Edo to Yoruba is informed by war memories which have however been debunked here, and not based on ethnology or cultural considerations. Sad to inform you that the Ijaws and Itsekiris in Edo can't join Delta because they are hedged into Edo by other Edoid tribes. If they could have been in Delta then they would have really been carved into it. Moreover the Delta you so badly want has Itsekiris who are more or less Yorubas and as well cracked down on Biafra too in revenge for Ifeajuna's murder of Okotie-Eboh their son. Even on the war issue Edo/Deltans had to protect themselves from Igbos' unprovoked invasion of their land. Igbos killed us so you wouldn't expect us to fold our arms. Moreover Most SS states ditched Biafra and worked to thwart it like Edo did. So by that logic of yours all SS states are now lesser Yorubas. Bayels State is now lesser Yorubas because Isaac Boro joined the Nigerian Side to crush Biafra. Very interesting! Other SS states may wish to join Biafra but never Edo/Delta. Mark it! |
Ariani:Who told you that all Languages in Edo State are Edoid languages? In Edo north there are languages that are not Edoid at all but share links with other languages outside the state. That is where the Cross-River State thing comes in. There are mutually intelligible languages in Edo-North and Cross Rivers North. These ar very recent discoveries which many are yet ignorant of. If urhobo migrated out of Benin and their languages diverged over time then does that mean they've become unrelated by blood? And who even told you Bini and urhobo are mutually unintelligible? Do you understand Bini or urhobo to have so concluded? That Estakos, Unemes, Okpameris, Ishans migrated out of Benin at different times but their languages got very diverged over time does not detract from their blood links. According to your logic, since they have evolved apart in language then they longer qualify to be in the same state of Edo, and that Isoko too should not be in same state with urhobo since a similar phenomenon exists between them. Now tell me what is mutually intelligible between Ijaw and itshekiri Languages to warrant them being lumped together in Delta while another set of Ijaws are with Yorubas In Ondo State SW. The regions are geopolitical and not geocultural. If we were to follow Geocultural criteria you can't create a single region in Nigeria. |
Ariani:SS is not even based on mutual intelliigibility of languages. So your arguement is flawed. There are Ijaws and Itsekiris in both Edo and Delta states. So how do you separate some into SW and others into SS if it is by language? Of all the over 20 languages spoken in Edo State none is mutually intelligible with Yoruba or Igbo except may be Igbanke. The real reason why you Igbos insist Edo is not a SS state is that in your pursuit of unrealistic Biafra with the SS in it, you want the minorities to bring in five states just like you will be bringing in too so that the minorities will not lay claim to higher entitlements over Igbos unlike how it will be if they bring six states to the table. Simple. It already happened when an Igbo man headed the committee that looked into the proposed creation of Anioma state. The Igbo chairman of that committee argued that such would mean 7 states for the SS while the SE remains 5. |
Ariani:So Edoid is no longer related to Edo but Igboid is still more or less Igbo? Ha ha ha ha ..............! That is just one. So Urhobo which migrated clearly from Benin and therefore called Edoid is no longer related to Edo? Secondly what do you know of some languages in Ogoja areas of Cross River sharing thousands of words with some tribes in the Northern parts of Edo State? The SS identity and composition was arrived at after very detailed research by ethnographers and ethnologers. You obviously have a long way to go. Why keep that thread till when you have time? Was it not the same you that have been demanding for the thread? Now you no longer have the time because defeat is scaring you in the face. Try it and I'll silence you with fact you never ever knew of. |
Ariani:You are the one so insinuating. So it lies on you to create the thread and then I'll meet you there. I will batter you with facts previously unknown to you about the ethnic relationship between Edo State and other four SS states of Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Delta. You obviously have never herd it that GEJ is not really Ijaw but of an Edoid tribe. Just create that post and call me in. You'll regret it. Please go ahead. |
