Rizin: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has banned nine deposit money banks (DMBs) from the foreign exchange market, for hiding over $2 billion belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). According to Channels TV, President Muhammadu Buhari has been briefed on the breach by the banks, and they have all been mandated to move the monies to the treasury single account. At the full implementation of the TSA in 2015, the CBN had warned that banks who not totally comply with the TSA remission plan of possible fine and stringent punishment. While unveiling the guidelines for foreign exchange trading in June, the CBN reiterated the need for banks to comply or face suspension from the forex market. The CBN may take action against any FXPD that fails to comply with the standards set forth in these Guidelines. Such action will vary depending upon the type of non- compliance, but may range, for instance, from fines, suspension from any or all FX operations for a period of time to termination as an FXPD,” CBN had said. In October 2016, the CBN fined two leading banks for the same offence repeated in 2016, leading to the payment of over N4 billion to the apex bank. This time around, all the banks involved are barred from the forex market until they fully refund the $2.1 billion held up in their coffers.
please who knows these nine banks. they have been on the watch list of cbn and now this.
Please whoever that knows these banks should tell us to safeguard our hard earned money. The economy now is not so good that somebody should loose a dime. i can still give u my email if you want to give me privately. i can not guarantee any bank now Well I am confident FBNH won't want to be caught in this web again having coughed out over 1b d last time |

http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/08/01/price-of-tomatoes-crashes/A small basket of tomatoes, which sold for N25,000 in May, now sells for N800 in Kaduna. It had been all anger and pains for households as the price of tomatoes hit the roof across the country as a result of scarcity caused by ‘Tuta Absoluta’, a pest also known as “tomato ebola”. This affected the crop in most parts of the North-west, notably Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina and Kano States. As a result, the basket prices jumped from the range of N800-N1200 to between N25,000 and N40,000 at the height of the crisis. At the Line Dogo (rail line) tomatoes and vegetable market in Kaduna on Saturday, it was a beehive of activities, reported online news website, The Cable. Buyers could not believe their eyes, as tomato prices had crashed to a two-month low. Abass Mai Tumatur, chairman of the tomato sellers said it was a “pleasant relief” for everyone as tomatoes are now available and in large quantities. “Tomato scarcity is nothing new, but it was made worse this year by the invasion of the moth,” he said. He said the insects mutate more during the dry season but don’t survive during the rainy season. “The rains coupled with the efforts of government have helped tremendously in making tomato available,” he said, praising the government for the “timely intervention”. He assured the public that the worst was over “and hopefully for good”. Farmers were left stranded and helpless as the moth ravaged their farms and left destruction across the farming community, making a pot of soup as expensive as gold. Hotels and restaurants, in particular, faced a nightmare as the crisis also shot up the price of canned tomato paste. Many were not aware of the reasons for the scarcity as frantic efforts were made to address the situation. Nasir el-Rufai, the Kaduna State Governor, declared a state of emergency and dispatched officials to Kenya to find ways of tackling the ravaging insects. The cost of the destruction in the state, according to el-Rufai, was close to N1 billion. Audu Ogbeh, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, also commissioned experts to find solutions to the disease outbreak “as soon as possible”. The insect originated from South America around 1912 and has spread to other parts of the world. Reports suggest the insects came to Africa through Republic of Niger. |
