Its really a very bad thing to have ignorant Nigerians who will not do their research before commenting.

Now you all listen, this is called cement soil stabilization.

Procedures:

1: The spread the cement in batches
2: They have a machine that will scarify it and mix it with the soil before the grader will work, its usually done in layers like 50mm - 150mm.

this is done before the other road layers are introduced.

I hope i have been able to school most of you.

yea we knw, even with a concrete class of C35/45, isn't that amount too much for 2km?

It depends if what pavement they want to have on it. If it's rigid pavement then it's high and I guess that's why they brought dangote into it. It is the best and last longer.

Nairalanders can always be a jerk. Are you people aware that the road in question has to be reinforced and concreted even before they add asphat? Just be calm it might talk that much as the road carries heavy duty truck, tankers, containers etc. Also the road drainage system has to be well design and constructed as that is always the reason for the road getting bad very fast.

My contribution as a civil engineer.
Creating awareness.

Properties / Re: How Do I Build A Septic Tank / Soakaway In This Situation? (pic Attached) by dedarkman(m): 8:29am On Jan 07, 2017
Pesuzok:
I want to build my septic and soakaway, but noticed that it has a low water bed. The plumber has just taken the best slope for the chambers by raising the pipes above the ground and the point of entry into the septic is quite low. Please I need suggestions.

I would have asked you to get professional hand which was what you needed from the onset,But let me be of help.
First of all u made a mistake my first digging the soil.
Below are methods of casting a concrete septic tank in high water table environment.

Call ur carpenter and ask him to build the form work of the septic tank at the location you want to have it, make sure he does not make formwork for the base.
Then put in ur reinforcement and then cast that on top of the soil the way it is.
When it solidifies, let's say give it 18days then ask diggers to start digging from inside and then dig the sides little by little by so doing the septic tank will gradually sink inside.
Once it sinks to the level u actually wang it, get a water pump and start sucking out the water inside the septic tank.
Then dig also a little potion outside the septic tank to get lower level than ur septic tank level and the level of ur base, then insert ur pumping machine at this location and start sucking it. You will discover that the water level does not come up again to the level u want the base to the septic tank.
Warning!! Make sure you have enough fuel that can run for the whole day and night to prevent failure.
Once u start pumping get the carpenter to make a formwork for the base and put in ur reinforcement and cast with water cement( that will aid the mix to dry rapidly)and then keep pumping till it solidifies that water can't get into the septic tank again.

Now you have a water tight septic tank. I use this in worse water table level.

Sorry to quote you papa I can bet with you that if you use that ur method you will still get water flowing I to the septic tank. Expirence is the best teacher.
PaPPi1:
my brother it's a simple login, get a dewatering, that small pump so as to remove water and dry the surface of the excavated pit, as you drain, you dig to your required dept, it's idea you do a dry casting with water cement or I prefer the wet casting with your normal cement, with thickness of about 2inches from the ground, don't worry about the water coming in from the ground it won't do any damage but would even help in solidifying your mortal. As for the piping system once you have been able to achieve your septic tank theres no fear, you can't raise pipe more than that cause it won't flow. my brother it's a simple login, get a dewatering, that small pump so as to remove water and dry the surface of the excavated pit, as you drain, you dig to your required dept, it's idea you do a dry casting with water cement or I prefer the wet casting with your normal cement, with thickness of about 2inches from the ground, don't worry about the water coming in from the ground it won't do any damage but would even help in solidifying your mortal. This road is umuchima in ihiagwa Imo state, the problem with that road is that they classify it as a federal gov road because it links obibze barrack, Futo, fed polytechnic. If it were state road it would have been done since. Secondly the case is still in court as we type.
Properties / Re: Estimating Building Costs, One Step At A Time. by dedarkman(m): 7:06am On Jun 28, 2016
I agree with you in everything except only QS carry out cost estimation. I put it to you that ur cost estimation is limited and more at cases just on buildings. You can never cost eatimate bridges and so on cheesy that's why it pays to be a civil (structural engineer) you can do all this I repeat all this. Morning all

NLresidentQS:
The dream of every man is to own his home. May the good Lord let us all achieve that. Amen

It is important for one to be able to control cost in whatever project one is undertaking. This is one of the underlying principles of project management. How effectively you can manage cost vs time, resources vs output will determine whether you will be able to meet that deadline with your scheduled price.

A construction team consist essentially of a

*Surveyor
*Architect
*Geotechnical Engineer
*Structural Engineer
*Quantity Surveyor
*Project Manager/Contractor
Each person has a well defined function and professional trespassing is a moral crime.

In summary, the surveyor is the one in charge of making site layout and installing beacons/corner piece, and performing setting out. The Architect is the one to design the building, bringing it out from emptiness..in all its beauty and grandeur. He will conclude with an architectural drawing showing the floor plan, elevations, sections, doors/window schedule, etc.

Next is the geotechnical Engineer. He will visit the site, make appropriate tests on the soil and conclude with a result on the type of soil, the bearing capacity, the recommended foundation and wether the soil can support the house intended.

Next, the structural engineer comes in, gallantly. Merging both the architectural drawing and the soil test result from the geotechnical don, he designs the building structurally. He analyses the building for loads combination, stability, flow of stress etc and decide the components for the building. He concludes with a working drawing showing Foundation plan, foundation details, column, beams, slab, walls, staircase etc.

Note that in many cases, either the architect/structural engineer is free to design for aestethitcal components eg...finishes, tiles, pop,, landscaping etc.
The mechanical/electrical engineers prepare their schedules of mechanical components/electrical fittings.

Next is me smiley , the Quantity Surveyor. No one, I repeat, no one knows about estimating materials, quantities, price of a structure and it's materials better than a QS. The QS estimates, technically, step by step process in the construction process and concludes with the PRICE of the project.

The project manager is in charge of keeping everyone on track. He controls the spending of money and materials and has a perpetual vision of when the project should be completed.

Now that you have a brief overview, we can move on to the topic gangan.

Politics / Re: My Experiece With The Card Reader As APO I&II. by dedarkman(m): 9:56am On Feb 07, 2016
foriz4u:
I have said it b4 and I will keep saying it over and over again.
The use of card readers in the past elections was a total waste of resource, time and rigging enable tactically. Prof. Jega should be brought to book for electoral criminality and wastage .
I was part of the team in ward 10, unit 2, Ikaja LGA and operated the card reader (APO1's duty) during the presidential and senatorial elections and as APO2 during the guber election thereby taking charge of the voters register.
during our training I was the only one that was bold enough, voluntarily came out to operate the card reader at the training centere located at a secondary school somewhere around Ikeja high court. I gained ground with my SPO so I was tought secretly how to programme the card reader(CR) to make it suit each piling unit else its just like a computer without an OS. so if a particular CR is not present in a polling unit it will appear to the electorates (lane men) that accreditation or voting won't b done. but that's not the case because we have the voters' register which supersedes the CR containing every PVCs details. therefore, making the CR useless n unnecessary.
I'm sure some of us notice some persons PVCs were not read by the CRs simply because the PVC was not programmed unto the CR.

During accreditations and voting the use of the CR n the voters register were both used and we were tought that after accreditation was over we should upload by communicating through one of the icons but all through my LGA non of us communicated.

At the end of the day work it was the voters register we all used to get the actual numbers of people that voted and accredited.

As a matter of fact 2card readers got missen that same night after voting was done but our SPO never got worried she asked to go home and was confident to find it.
After 4days my SPO summoned everyone in my polling unit 1&2 and was almost crying just because one of the voters register had gone missen. it took us 5 whole hours b4 we were able to fish it out from one of the trash bin...u needed to see d point of relief in her face.

I then began to wonder; why do we need this card readers?
why do ve to accredit using both d CR n d voters register?
why do we have to allow even those whose fingers was not read by d CR to vote even without issuing an incident form?
why were those whose details were not on d CRs but on d voters register allowed to vote?

these and many more question brought me to a finite conclusion that the CR was a nuisance, a waste of time and a total waste of public funds.

if we have to go electronic in voting I've a better suggestion and not with card readers.

Prof. Jega should be probed for gross misconduct and electrical fraud because he deceived Nigerians.
I have not logged in on my handler for almost 2-3month I just had to today because of you, I can stand here and tell you that your wrong with this your post I was a serving and participated as a PO in my polling unit and I eventually did all the work to using the card reader. During te training I scored the highest,to cut story short during the governor election I made sure I accredited all that came to vote I repeat all that came with their card and belongs to that area. I handled obanikoro ward at gerrad in ikoyi. Yea we had case of card reader not detecting their thumbs but with the right technics I made the card reader to detect all that came cause I had all the time in the gov election. Most cases I had to make them clean their hands with dry white hanky and most case I even ask then to touch the ground to make their hand dusty and all worked. If u see someone that has soft Palms u need to help them press their hands on the card readers, someone with sweaty palms they dry their hands and even touch dust so it can be read. To stop here please always get ur facts right before coming to the public to spread lies . Thanks. I was chosen for that location for a reason and I delivered without problems.

Please read Deuteronomy 14:22-29 .I am sorry I agree with him and the bible says so too . I don't have to give anyone money tithe only says food and food u should provide , take ur foods to church and if it's heavy to carry sell it and turn it to money and when u get to church use that money and buy produce so that you and ur family will eat in Gods house and so there will be plenty food there, they never said give the pastor or prist the money .pleas read Deuteronomy 14:22-29 the bible says it all . I know you will say in the old time they farm but why did it not say after changing it to money take the money to church and give it to the pastor.

If they can't erradicate bokoboys then let them feel the hit that's those poor people feel , also let those ogas who always sabotage the operations do so and also die in the attack .
