@mai suya,
pls allow okorocha. What u r saying is what it should be but when u r in a country where looters are governors then u must go the extra mile to catch them. Which of the governors in the past has been imprisoned for looting? The corruption charges against them seems to have been forgotten. Pls keep your due process in waiting until we begin to have credible men in power.
Do you still feel democracy should be given a chance? From your perspectives, I guess coup would have served us better since the disposed governors should have been shot if they did not balance state’s ledger books.

Okorocha, until he is sworn in by State Chief judge as the substantive governor is no different from the ordinary citizen on the street, and for him to seek to prematurely exercise powers yet to be bestowed upon him is a disconcerting sign of events to come.

as for the attempt to justify the move as his way of preempting last minute grabbing by politicians on their way out, my response is why not allow the law take its course? Are there not provisions for dealing with such officials once they are stripped of their immunity?
I guess there are few of us who are willing to give democracy a chance. Why would some of these people congregate at hall of democracy when they can not observer the simplest doctrine of the system?

@ Dede
I dont know anything about you, but your post smacks of being very ignorant about the actions and inactions of our politicians. Politics in Nigeria is all about the money, all of them outgoing are all interested in last minute grabbing. How many of them corrupt politicians have been successfully convicted for looting and mismanagement of public fund (apart from the ones that fell out of favour). If i where to be in Okorochas shoe, with the way politicians behave in Nigeria( looting and stealing) i wont only write to the bank, i will also announce in NTA,CNN, Aljazeerah etc. that any bamk that honour any cheques is on its own. Even if its for the salaries of the worker, workers have gone without salaries for months before, only a month longer this time around wont kill them. Go to the goverments offices of outgoing and you be amazed at the way back dated memos are springing up for contract that was never awarded.
Bros where do we start to practice the “spirit of change” that lingers on the lips of everybody Imo State? Simply because Ohakim is wrong does not encourage Okorocha to be wrong too. I think the instance of ignorance could rest on the fact you stated that government of Imo State or Nigeria is all about looting and stealing money hence the moral germination and observing all the principles of democracy are co-signed to a waste bin.

I guess going to NTA, CNN, Aljazeerah etc is political grandstanding and very childish. By your standard, Okoroacha would have gone to court, police and army to arrest Ohakim when he was a mere nominee of APGA. For goodness sake, we are trying to borrow the game of democracy from the USA and it is very shameful that my people think that mere casting of vote represents such endeavor.

Rochas Okorocha is not yet governor of Imo State and his so-called Chief of Staff has no imaginable authority to write letter to banks in the state on the behalf of Imo State when the Rochas Okorocha has not been sworn-in as governor. I guess everything born of snake has long tail.

@OP, I have to ask. With so many of these ridiculous threads popping up every here and there, I have to ask, what is up with the droves of insecure folks coming in here these days? Why do you think your perspective of other strangers should matter enough to warrant a thread? I mean why do people who do this, really think others care much? Or are these threads simply for others people whoa re so concerned about what others think, like your person?

Imagine a supposed grown up, creating a thread in a public forum to dissect people you do not know apart from their posts in the same forum? Are you so bored with your own life that you need to FOCUS on OTHERS throw their opinions in a random forum online? I have come to understand, scratch that, accept people's fascination with facebook and the need to show-off/post pictures of themselves so everyone can see them like everytime, and accumulate LIKES from others(I call it self-glorification syndrome) cheesy , and yes, I have also come to accept that there are those who need to tweet their every moves for one reason or the other, but this new fad, where you feel it is OK for you to try to PSYCHOANALYZE folks on the internet, is creepy!! @POST

If the alleged report about Chief Okorocha’s Chief of Staff, Prince Eze Madumere’s letter to all the banks dealing with the state government placing embargo on the accounts until the governor-elect, is sworn in on May 29, 2011 is remotely true, I shall reiterate the fact Nigerians have no business in democracy and also believe what a poster had written in previous post that Okorocha’s government could be worse than Ohakim.

So called Chief Okorocha’s Chief of Staff, Prince Eze Madumere has no business writing any bank official about the business of Imo State until Okorocha is sworn-in as governor of Imo State. Why is Chief of Staff, Prince Eze Madumere solely concerned about money? Is he thinking about looting when the governor-elect is not yet the executive officer of Imo State?

Rochas Okorocha’s and Okahim’s transitional teams should be huddling for smooth handover of Imo State government affairs. No side should engage in exchange of letters with bank executive in the state chasing money. I guess there is no change insight for Nigerians.

Actually, the only thing that would float my boat is the assurance that if ever we Ngwa/Ukwa have one of our own in that governorship seat, that we will be able to hold said individual at accountability, because he won't be going there for himself. He will be sitting there as a measure of nde Ngwa la Ukwha. He sits there as a representative of our name, and so, his successes will reflect on us, as will his failures. For that reason, he needs to be held at accountability by us. It would be failure on the part of nde Ngwa la Ukwha m we, that after all these years of shouting marginalization, among other things, that one of our own makes it to such position and fails woefully. In fact, fails *us* woefully. As at now though, there exists no infrastructure to assure such within the Ngwa/Ukwa complex. So there is no real pressure/incentive to work the work and perform properly. I would be uncomfortable knowing that an Ngwa/Ukwa, who is not being held at accountability, is sitting in that seat; not moving ala Ngwa la ala Ukwha forward; not doing what he needs to do to clean up Abia and make it progress.

I sincerely believe that nde Ngwa la Ukwha are not prepared to assure such, and as such, I would not at all feel comfortable with an Ngwa/Ukwa man sitting up there, no matter how much I would like to see such happen, and I don't believe my people are ready, no matter how much shouting they do. That is where my hurt is.

Do you understand now where I'm coming from? Does it make sense to you now, why I said the things I said?
I suggest you do not rush to type posts because of frustration. There are very capable individuals within my people of Ngwa and Ukwa. Do not let what recently transpired in Imo State blur your political vision. Ngwa and Ukwa had produced firebrand politicians during the first republic and continued to do so lately.

If what happened in Imo State happened in Abia, the posts pertaining to the gubernatorial succession in Abia State would have bordered on the zone, greed and born to rule. In Imo State, it was the turn of Okigwe zone to complete the term before rotating back to Owerri zone. However Orlu zone due to greed for power and bad governance by an Okigwe’s son decided to jettison the goodwill arrangement and principles among the zones. I am for the ouster of Ohakim too.

Now, if Abia north had decided to join the gubernatorial race in Abia State knowing that Orji Uzo Kalu hails from the zone and eventually won it, this thread would have dominated by posts of greed and born to rule attitude of Abia north.

Granted that Theodore Orji is a useless governor who should have been evicted from the government house in Umuahia, the people of Ngwa and Ukwa should be padded on the back for exercising rare political maturity while bidding time for their turn at government house in Umuahia.

The youths in Okohia community in Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State should be taught a lesson in democracy. Ohakim was elected as the governor of Imo State not Okohia and he does not owe account of stewardship to community of Okohia.

Again, this is democracy which allows Okohia to either help retain Ohakim as governor or vote him out as the people of Imo State did last week. The alleged vandalism the youth meted to St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Okohia was an uncharacteristic behavior of people from Okohia.

First of all, the phrase, single mother, is a misnomer. What of the “double mother”? A woman who bears a child out of wedlock or from an unknown father has created an instance of illegitimacy. The people in the Europe, Asia and America could embellish such an aberration but in Africa where traditional ways of inheritance still reign supreme, a woman bearing child out of wedlock is unacceptable and there is nothing heroine about such social recklessness.

I am always thrilled with history of Yoruba land via Oyo Empire. Throughout the history of Yoruba as I read it, Alaafin of Oyo had remained the paramount “Oba” in Yoruba land.

Please, can someone who is very knowledgeable in Yoruba history inform us connotation of Ooni? I learnt it has something to do with slave or servant.

The issue of supremacy of Alaafin and Ooni was created by Awolowo’s Action Group government of western region. Alaafin of Oyo had opposed the Action Group and went further to form Egba Omo Oduduwa parapo that saw to the defeat of certain candidates of Action Group in both regional and federal elections in western region.

In other to spite Alaafin politically, Awolowo and AG nominated Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Aderemi as the first indigenous governor of western region and installed Alake of Egbaland as the chairman of western regional house of Chiefs while shunning the presence of Alaafin of Oyo, Olu Ibadan of Ibadan and Oba of Benin.

The Action Group played the same earth scorching politics in selection of Olu Ibadan of Ibadan as Awolowo and AG made sure that candidate backed by Adelabu Adegoka was not installed Olu Ibadan through legislative maneuvers.

Akala is still a disciple of Awolowo who seems to continue the political battle royale started in the 50s.

What I wrote is definitely different from your uninformed view. This was your last sentence: "I am afraid the whole thing is a setup for court battle which could truncate the political joy expressed by the people of Imo State toward initial INEC pronouncements."

Even if Ohakim goes to court on the Oguta issue, what will be his prayers? He could only ask the courts to order for a fresh election in Oguta. In any case, Rochas would be sworn in on or before 7th June and any possible re-run in Oguta would be conducted with Ohakim already out of office and trailing by over 46,000 votes. I don't see how that can equate to the gloom situation you implied in your post.
Since you are the election tribunal and Court of Appeals put together and have decided what will be outcome of incomplete electioneering process in Imo State, you should be allowed to wallow in stupor.

I think you should be reminded that few election results had already been dismissed by tribunals and courts before the assumed winners were sworn-in. The last thing I would wish for Imo State is court battle over this elelction. I hope Ohakim accepts defeat and move to another level of politics.

I am not a supporter of either Ohakim or Okorocha and do not expect or intend to benefit from the stewardship of either man. You sounded like your life depended on the favorable outcome of election for Rochas Okorocha. Please enjoy it while it lasts

Free and fair election is not electoral results conforming with whatever projections you have in your head. The only institutions ordained by law to pronounce the result of any election or to cancel it are INEC and the law court respectively.

It is the duty of all responsible citizens to go and vote and then allow INEC to do their job. Dropping tantrums like if elections are free and fair then Mr A must win, otherwise it would have been rigged is simply shameful and irresponsible. There are so many legitimate reasons why election can swing one way or the other on election day. To assume that the result of the election can only have one outcome otherwise it would have been rigged, is the very reason people hacked their countrymen to death in the North believing that the electoral views of their friends or immediate community is somehow representative of the general view of the whole country.

This is why I say in order to sustain democracy, certain acceptable behaviours are expected not just of those in power but also of those seeking power.
This is a practically well written prose. It could not have been written any better. The hysterical build up of wild electoral assumptions based on self-centered ideology leads to anti-social behaviors as evidenced in northern region of Nigeria.

Any governor in Igbo land that engages in flogging of the citizens including a pastor or catholic priest for not given the governor the right of way is bound to be defeated in a subsequent election. People fail to understand the saying that “NDigbo do not have a king”.

Even if Ohakim had built hanging garden in Owerri and still engaged in reckless whipping of citizens for mere right of way, he must be evicted from government house when his time is up.

This is not the issue of PDP or APGA. I have political intuition that Rochas will switch back to PDP.

Man please do not spread falsehood here. The law is very clear on this. The best reprieve Ohakim could get from the courts is a declaration that elections be conducted in Oguta LGA if it is established that the result from this area could possibly alter the final results. That is the only prayer that could be granted to him, the results of the other 26 LGAs can not be canceled on account of what happened in Oguta.

If the courts order fresh elections in Oguta, Rochas would step down for the Speaker to act as Governor until the Oguta elections are conducted. With Rochas leading by over 46,000 and Ohakim out of power by then, I don't see how he can possibly tilt victory to his side with Oguta. He knows this and I don't think he bother himself with such an expensive and ominously fruitless venture.
What you wrote is not different from what I have previous posted. I do not think the electoral act is based on possible outcome or result of election but the conduct of election itself. My post is not information or news but a scenario of possible outcome if Ohakim chooses to challenge the INEC results.

The margin of possible victory or lack thereof does not factor in the execution of the law. The law says that election must be conducted regardless of the possible or what seemed to be the outcome. Why are people rejoicing over the INEC announcement based on incomplete election? It would have been a nice day for me if the election was completed in all the 27 LGAs in Imo State. I am afraid the political shenanigan in Imo State has a day with election tribunal or Court of Appeals. The cardinal position of democracy is nobody should be disenfranchised. If election is not conducted in Oguta LGA, the announcement of Rochas as the winner of the contest is very pre-mature.
