Kukutente23: This is a result of the lack of popularity of the Tinubu presidency 36% of votes is a minority victory. In most countries of the world, the election will go to a run off or at worst a forming of coalition govt. What we have presently is a minority rule. Our politicians need to consider correcting this anomaly in our laws.
Salewa97: Isn’t it ironic how they choose a donkey to represent their frustrations? Instead of constructive dialogue, they resort to mockery. Tinubu is busy working on solutions while they parade around with animals. Time for real conversations, not distractions.
Your man had a chance to speak to the nation and he only repeated the exact same thing he has been doing which led to this. You are talking about serious dialogue and your man could not even mention one new step he will take. Who will dialogue with such a con man.
Kukutente23: I wonder what OBJ stole from you nitwits that support Tinubu. This is what convinced me a long time ago that most of you are mad. Did Tinubu not also want a third term as gov? So what's all the noise about third term and how's it relevant to this discussion? So it is OBJ who refused to diversify the economy? Who brought Telcos? Who recapitalised the banks? Who brought life into our local entertainment industry? Tinubu is on seat now. What has he done to diversify the economy? Lemme guess. One year is too short for his policies to bear fruit. Baba did his own and did it well. His faults and failures as well as successes are known to all. Stop spitting hate on him just because you want to defend your tin god.
And this is aside from debt forgiveness by Paris Club and essentially setting up the frame work for what later became fundamental institutions - E.g EFCC / ICPC Etc.
Its an international place of culture to be proud of. That does nothing to take away its own ancestry and ethnic belonging.
Stop the wars over Lagos. No Brazillian quarrels over the former capital Rio de Janerio in such a way and no Indian quarrels over Mumbai in such a way just as no American quarrels over New York in such a way. Let's stop being crass to one another.
EponObi: There's no going back from here, inshallah. The economy must be rejigged, no matter how pain and strenuous tbe process may be. History will remember Tinubu for not taking the easy route of padding our economy.
Pls can you refer us to one single third world country where subsidy removal and currency devaluation has led to prosperity or even failed to ensure starvation and economic decline.
iLoveYouToo: We always claim to know more than people whose systems and policies we copy.
Everyone claims to know it all until he/she is in the saddle.
Can you assist by letting us know just one third world country where IMF recommended subsidy removals and currency devaluations have led to prosperity or even failed to introduce starvation?
And may I add that it is also a sign of the filial relationship and cultural bond that exists between the northern part of Nigeria and the rest of the Sahel.
This part of Africa have always distrusted the West and they see more ample reason to do so now.
What most Nigerians don't know is that Niger's economy has experienced a resurgence since the military coup.
In fact, the military has reduced fuel and electricity prices in Niger early this year and the economy is growing faster than Nigeria's.
Not only that, Nigeria's currency devaluation has made our economy unattractive to Niger.
These our northern brothers see and believe it is due to the fact that Niger is walking with the right crowd a.k.a Russia while Tinubu is seen as pro-West and hated by the Sahelian belt due to his posture in the early days of the coup.
So, Russia represents a better life while the West represents poverty.
We grew up thinking CIA creating a coup in Cuba was conspiracy theory until it turned out true. Only a blind person will think Mali Niger and Burkina Faso are just playing footsie with Russia.
No, if you look carefully, one doesnt suggest there is no game going on. However countries DO pounce on situations - even those that arise organically, unless you wish to suggest Russia somehow planned this protest?
PS: Was not spamming, so many people were asking the same question and I was offering them my answer.
Goodnewsforlife: so a looter who can't b controlled should b left to loot everything in d shop abi?
I guess u don't have a shop or business so u don't know how it feels to lose business to thieves
Something is wrong with you. It says he was already on the ground, defeated, unarmed, beaten. Why must he shot? What not arrest him? You people dont deserve democracy.
ceejayluv: Those Northern guys have close ties with Niger. And Niger has been taken over by the Military that's loyal to Russia, discarding their French overlords. In summary, they're hoping for a coup.
Obrigardo: When agents tell you some of the plans they inject to the public to change perception, you'll laugh coz it sounds stupid and cliche. These people in government have access to information millions of nigerians are privy to. The painful truth is that nigerians don't know how their top secret service operate coz I'll bet they get Info from allies and possibly the CIA of Russia's moves.
SpaceX: Hope the know Russia is a Christian country, they hate Christianity I'm there own country but admiring Christianity of another country. What the hell is going on?
Abee79: For those who don't have the patience to read the long post, here is a summary:
The post argues that the appearance of Russian flags in recent Nigerian protests is not a result of Russian interference or sponsorship, but rather a symbolic rejection of Western economic policies.
The author claims that strict economic policies imposed by Western institutions like the IMF, such as subsidy removal, currency devaluation, and tax increases, have led to widespread hardship in African countries. These policies, often implemented at the behest of Western governments, have historically sparked protests and unrest.
As a result, people, particularly in the Sahel region, view Russia as a symbolic opposition to the West. The use of Russian flags in protests is seen as a way to express discontent with Western economic dominance and its impact on their lives.
The author specifically points to Nigeria's recent economic policies, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, as examples of Western influence. These policies, according to the text, have contributed to the current protests and the display of Russian flags.
Basicend: Most of these northerners are very dull and dumb. What is the significance of waving Russian flag? Is that Russia should come and colonize Nigeria or what?
If they were waving Palestinian, Iraq, Iran or Saudi flag, I could even relate with the link in some way.
Nigeria was in the hands of the North for last 8 years under their so-called Mr. Integrity, see how far they have messed up the country and turned the economy upside down.
So inept a people.
Where was their protesting voice all those years under Buhari?
I see a lot of people failing to understand why Russian flags are popping up in the current protests. Its really very simple and nothing new and requires no sponsorship or interference from Russia or anywhere else. It is exactly what has been seen all over the Sahel (and the North is part of the Sahel) whenever there have been movements against Government. It also appears in other places and the reason is organic.
Most of these protests are caused by intense hardship created by strict policies which are insisted on by Western institutions such as the IMF. Those institutions are also agents in funding and supporting governments or politicians. Their logic is extremely simple -
1. We give you money, and so you need a lot of money to pay us back. Take that money from your people by removing subsidies. That way we can do business better since your cash flow will be better. Mind you, this cash flow is strictly to pay us with all our interests on the easy.
2. At the same time your Foreign Exchange regime must be free market - do not control it at all. That way, we can devalue your currency and make you pay more of your currency for less of our dollars - making it ever harder for you to pay us and ensuring that you incur interest for ever.
3. You must increase taxes at every level to raise more money for us.
These policies are not new. They have been marketed to African leaders everywhere.
This is exactly what has happened in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and now Nigeria, and even others. Every where these policies have been implemented the result has been mass starvation and have ALWAYS led to protests and riots.
So many people, particularly in the Sahel (where the Francophone countries were tired of French economic manipulation) understand that these policies are from the West and that they are targetted at making poor people ever poorer.
For this reason, they simply automatically support the natural enemy of the West and that is Russia. And that, my friends is the simple reason you see Russian flags in these kinds of protests. Its a rebellion against the West. It never fails to pop up.
You should also understand that the speed with which Tinubu removed subsidies and floated the naira is simply his obedience to the West. At that time he was also going to be used fast by the West against Niger Republic, but water pass garri. All of these things, are just commands he was receiving from his masters. And it is the sole reason many other things behind the scenes are happening.
It is the sole reason many times, power changes hands, and it is he who does the bidding of the west that wins.
This is what is happening, so I just wish to explain to people who think there is a Russian conspiracy or funding of Russian flags. No need. It is organic.
The NTA news report from Aminu Umar in Kano is true and NOT propaganda like some insidious posts on this thread have incorrectly suggested.
Just as Aminu Umar rightly stated, the video showing scenes of violence going viral on social media was indeed from the "day one" of the protests but as of today, that part of Kano is very peaceful and as you can see there is a lot of vehicular movements in the background. A lot has to be done globally to tackle the spread of FAKE news on social media and bring the well-known perpetrators to maximum justice as this same thing is what has triggered the recent violence and lootings in the UK due to the spread of FALSEHOODS on social media by the right wing "English Defence League."
