Nigeria activates nuclear accelerator at Obafemi Awolowo University

igeria inaugurated a nuclear accelerator last weekend at the Obafemi Awolowo University located in its south west Osun State, the Ministry of Science and Technology said in a statement on Tuesday.

The nuclear facility would be used for basic and applied researches in food, agriculture, environmental studies and material science, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the statement as saying.

Grace Ekpiwhre, minister of science and technology, said the facility, commenced after 25 years of preparations, was to help improve the nation's application of nuclear technology, according to the statement.

Ekpiwhre also said that the activation would support the government's resolve to establish a nuclear power plant.

Nigeria and Iran have signed an agreement on nuclear cooperation in Abuja last month. According to the deal, Iran will provide civil nuclear technology to Nigeria.

The Foreign Ministry of Nigeria has acclaimed that the nuclear technology acquired would not be used for military purpose.

Nigeria, the largest oil producing country in Africa, has suffered electricity supply strains over recent years due to poor infrastructure construction and aging facilities.

Train crushes railway sex couple in South Africa


A couple in South Africa who were having sex on a railway track in Mpumalanga Province have been killed by a goods train, police say.
Spokesman Abie Khoabane said it took place on Friday evening and the victims were yet to be identified.
He told local newspapers that the couple ignored the driver's shouts as he moved the train into the disused station in Kinross town.
"They continued with their business," he told the Sowetan paper.
According to South Africa's Beeld newspaper, the area was deserted with no cars or houses nearby.
The man died at the scene and the woman died later at hospital, the Sowetan reports.
The police have appealed for those with missing relatives to come forward to help with their investigation.

True, but the US. depends heavily on Chinese imports, so in reality you won't see that effected by that much of a margin. Almost everything here in America is made in China, and if the US. were to stop importing Chinese made products, there economy would collapse even more.

To put it bluntly, China is growing at too much of a massive rate for America's economic downturn to effect them. China branches our EVERYWHERE, there's trillions of more dollars of trade opportunities for China, besides America and it's dependents.

Your statement defies the number one business rule: every customer is important. If china lose businesses coming from the US, they will feel it immensely besides, majority of these companies in China are US owned. India is another economy that may come to a halt if the US goes down.

America remains china's biggest client just like America is saudi arabia's biggest client. Hence the reason why the problem in america is affecting the economy in china.

The EU is another big client they can contend with. I think the USA is more dependent on China more than China is dependent on them. So, a downturn in Americas economy will be a bad business for China but will not crash their economy.
