You sink lower by the minute.
You remember the treacher in Gombe named Oluwatosin that waskilled by almajiris because she"defiled the Koran" and yet no Koran was found
Is it possible to argue that she perhaps caused her own killing ?
In the same wway when armed robbers shoot at you and take your "jeep" you probably brought it on yourself by driving in a flahy car amongst people riding molues?
are you kidding me ?

Your examples are ludicruos. A problem can only be solved if nipped from the bud. If the ibo traders are walking over owo youths not only ostentatiously but talking down on them without minding their emotions, it could trigger a thing alike this. i'm just offering a solution so that such a thing will not repeat itself again because after this, it may diffuse to other communities in Ondo and beyond.

This time the kidnappers happen to be Ondo youths.
there are now almajiris in Ondo targetting Igbos.
that is an ethnic crime and should not be taken lightly.
That's how ethnic cleansings start
and those that fold their hands or live in denial are just as guilty
You are right but what am suggesting is that ywe shouldn't close our eyes to other sources that may be responsible for the crime. A crime of hate is very heinous and should not be tolerated. I think they should also look into what triggered it. Did the ibos trigger such animosity by their overt showmanship among youths in a town that has no jobs or whatever to offer its youths?
PoliticsRe: Kidnapping - A truly Nigerian phenomenom as Yoruba youths join the party by DeepZone: 3:24am On Sep 16, 2008
and there are no ibo residing in owo?
imagine or even ijaw or hausa. Also lots  of Benin poeople are jobless  riffraffs and their proximity to Owo may be a cause for concern.

If these people were not Yoruba militant youths,I'm sure the traders could tell.
They did not come from Katsina or Yenegoa
The media can add salt and papper to a story to hype the flavour. tongue tongue tongue tongue

Targetting the Igbo traders is what I find annoying.
Are there no Ondo traders in Owo ?
why pick on Igbos ?

If they must kidnap, they should kidnap their own people and don't make it a tribal war.
Igbos can't be targetted by almajiris of Kano and Gombe
Now almajiris of Ondo.
That is not right.
Depends on who's targeting them? It be an ibo on ibo crime.

Traders don't usually hide their wares
How would people know what they're selling?
does one need an oracle to tell that a trader selling ladies shoes probably has several pairs in his storage area
I'm surprised you are coming to the defence of these useless hooligans
I'm not defending the criminals. I'm only defending the fact that you guys are tying yorubas to that crime because it happened in yorubaland. Does it mean that every crime in American soil was committed by Americans?
PoliticsRe: Kidnapping - A truly Nigerian phenomenom as Yoruba youths join the party by DeepZone: 3:10am On Sep 16, 2008
the 76 year old baba that used his rectum as a ghana must go was also influenced by an Igbo man.
The "most wanted " criminals here in America are Igbo men that adopted Yoruba names.
and those that looted our treasury were smoking Igbo and then became Igbo
I bet Yorubas don't kidnap
Thats not the case here but if you notice the way Ibime entitled this thread like Yorubas already have a kidnapping syndicate like his Ijaw brothers that are career kidnappers. If you ask me, it's a desperate attempt to get an accesory to that trade.
PoliticsRe: Kidnapping - A truly Nigerian phenomenom as Yoruba youths join the party by DeepZone: 3:05am On Sep 16, 2008
Is that your spin on this whole thing?
Hmm
Maybe it's the Igbo men also stuffing cocaine in their anuses for transatlantic trading.
this girl sef
It's not a spin but a possible fact. It's those that know you very well that can easily value you and know whether it's worth it to kidnap you or not.
PoliticsRe: Kidnapping - A truly Nigerian phenomenom as Yoruba youths join the party by DeepZone: 2:52am On Sep 16, 2008
Kidnapping is not a new thing in Nigeria. There have been a lots of kidnappings in hausaland, iboland etc even before the ijaws started a career in kidnapping. I still think the ijaw has a hand in this ondo thing or it could be the ibo that is kidnapping their brother afterall, how will the locals know how much those ibo boys have if not for inside information?

Kidnapping is becoming a serious issue in Nigeria now and i think armed robbery is slowly getting out of fashion.

MEND declares ‘oil war’
Written by Emma Amaize & Jimitota Onoyume
Monday, September 15, 2008
* Claims soldiers were killed in shoot-out, *Only one soldier injured — JTF

MOVEMENT for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) said, yesterday, it had launched an “oil war” in response to Saturday’s aerial and massive bombardments on one of its positions by the military.

It claimed in an online statement that its members attacked gunboats and oil facilities, and killed some military men in the first round of the attack.

But spokesman for the Joint Task Force in Rivers State, Lt-Col. Musa Sagir, said an attack on a Chevron facility in the state was aborted. He said a soldier sustained gunshot injury, but declined to say if there had been any casualty. Shell said it was still investigating reports of attack on its facility.

MEND in the statement signed by Jomo Gbomo said: “Following a previous warning that any attack on our positions will be tantamount to a declaration of an oil war, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has declared an oil war in response to the unprovoked aerial and marine attacks on a MEND position in Rivers State of Nigeria on September 13, 2008 by the armed forces of Nigeria.

“About 0100 hrs, today (yesterday), September 14, 2008, Hurricane Barbarossa commenced with heavily armed fighters in hundreds of war boats filing out from different MEND bases across the Niger Delta in solidarity to carry out destructive and deadly attacks on the oil industry in Rivers State.

“By dawn, MEND destroyed oil flow stations, gun boats, burst pipelines, dead and injured soldiers trailed in the aftermath of the ‘hurricane’. Some specific locations include the Soku Gas Plant, Chevron Platform at Kula; over 22 well-armed soldiers sent as reinforcement were intercepted, killed and dispossessed of their weapons, a major crude trunk pipeline at Nembe creek was blown up at several points.

“The operation will continue until the government of Nigeria appreciates that the solution to peace in the Niger Delta is justice, respect and dialogue. This military style bullying belongs to the past 50 years when the Niger Delta people responded only with their mouths, pens and placards.

“All international oil and gas loading vessels entering the region are warned to drop anchor in the high sea or divert elsewhere until further notice. Failure to comply is taking a foolhardy risk of attack and destruction of the vessel.

“Again, we are asking that oil companies evacuate their staff from their field facilities because the brief is not to capture hostages but to bring these structures to the ground.”

Only one soldier injured — JTF

However, Col. Sagir, speaking yesterday confirmed a clash between soldiers and militants at Soku and Robortkiri but declined to speak on casualty.

“Because it is an internal crisis, I can’t speak on the casualty rate on the part of our brothers,” he said.

The militants, according to him, stormed oil facilities in Soku and Robortkiri areas with a view to blowing them up but were repelled by soldiers on ground.

“As a result of yesterday’s (Saturday’s) attack on our troops on marine patrol at Elem Tombia which led to an exchange of fire with heavy casualty on the militants, as anticipated the bandits staged an attack in the early hours of today (yesterday) between 3-4 am at Soku facility and Robortkiri where they met active resistance from the troop guarding the facilities. It was successfully repelled with casualty on the miscreants’ side.

A soldier was, however, wounded and no death recorded. This message is necessary to preempt and avoid mischievous propaganda from the militants,” he said.

The JTF said an unknown group of militants at about 10.35 hrs on Saturday opened fire on its patrol team at Elem Tombia, provoking an exchange of gunfire.

Chevron confirms attack

Meanwhile, Chevron on its part has confirmed attack on one of its platform in the region to newsmen.

“There was an attack on a platform already shut down due to pipeline problems,” the company official who reportedly spoke under cover said it happened yesterday.

According to MEND in a statement on Saturday night, 27 oil workers, including five expatriates from Britain, South Africa and Ukraine and 20 Nigerians, reportedly rescued by it from sea pirates that kidnapped them from the MT Blue Ocean were trapped in the crossfire between the militant group and the armed forces.

Two communities in Rivers State— Elem Tombia and Ogboma— were reportedly razed after soldiers sacked militants from the area.

MEND confirmed that some of the trapped oil workers were injured in the crossfire with the military and that they were being treated with local herbs by the militants and pleaded that the Red Cross or doctors from the MSF should be allowed passage to attend to them.

“Injuries are mainly from high calibre machine guns and shrapnel,” its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo stated.

Jomo Gbomo who confirmed that the MEND lost five members in the Saturday encounter said: “The 27 oil workers rescued by the MEND from the pirates that kidnapped them from the MT Blue Ocean and taken to the camp under attack to be offered as a reward leverage for the release of Henry Okah are trapped in the fighting between our fighters and the Nigerian military forces.

“The workers are made up of five expatriates from Britain, South Africa and Ukraine, while the remaining 22 are Nigerians,” he said.

Earlier on Saturday, MEND claimed the military had launched a full scale war on its positions and some Ijaw communities with gun ships and over 20 gun boats and landing crafts filled with heavily armed soldiers, mainly from the Northern axis of Nigeria.

“We hold the Governor of Rivers State and the President of Nigeria accountable for the genocide on the defenceless civilians who are bearing the brunt from indiscriminate air force bombs.

“All MEND positions in the Niger Delta will respond to this unprovoked attack coming at a time the government is canvassing the so-called Niger Delta Ministry to hoodwink the people,” MEND said

Amaechi laments miliitants’ activities

Meanwhile, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has denounced the activities of militants in the state, lamenting their negative impact on development in the state.

The activities of the militants, he said, recently forced him to lodge N94 billion, an amount which accrued to the state from excess crude account in the bank. He regretted that the money could not be utilised for projects in the state at the moment because of the militants who are in the habit of abducting workers at project sites.

He cited the Egbomu community in Andoni local government area which is threatened by coastal erosion with government unable to help and contractors there forced to abandon the site.

“In the last two months, the contractor has not gone to site because the so-called militants did not allow the dredgers to pass,” Governor Amaechi said, and asked: “Who is losing or gaining in this kind of scenario?”

But he vowed that government would not relent as it was determined to flush them out. He said the activities of the criminals were denying the people of Rivers State development.

Governor Amaechi added that contract for the bridge linking Bolo Community in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area with Dere Community in Gokana Local Government Area had been awarded, and contractor paid, but the militants were denying Bolo people the privilege of driving home to their communities with their cars.

Obasanjo hates Ige, even in death –Adeyeye

By Akin Oyedele

The 78th commemorative birthday lecture of the slain former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, again provided another platform for the denunciation of the eight-year rule of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The gathering of eminent personalities from the academics, different political divide, as well as associates, followers, friends and family of the late Ige, would attest to his greatness, even in death.

Setting the tone for the invectives poured on the Obasanjo‘s administration by speakers at the forum, the guest lecturer, Prof. Sola Adeyeye, said that Obasanjo was one of the detractors of Ige.

The President, Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), who also came hard on Obasanjo, described the ex-President as a self-centred leader that could not be dealt with.

Blaming the brutal murder of Ige for the present predicament of the Yoruba nation, he said that the late AGF made a mistake by accepting to serve under Obasanjo.

He, however, vowed that the NBA would ensure that the murder of Ige, as well as other politically-motivated killings, was not swept under the carpet.

Akeredolu said, ”The Bar has a role to play. Ige‘s death should not be consigned to the dustbin of history. We must pursue those that killed him until they are caught.

”The Bar must force the present administration to set up a judicial commission of inquiry into Ige‘s murder as well as other unresolved murders. This country is gradually slipping into a failed state.

”We must come together to rescue this country. The problem we have is that the progressives are not consistent and united.

”Why for instance should the progressives in Oyo State not come together during the governorship election? Why did we have so many candidates among them? That was responsible for what we have on hand.”

Even in death, Adeyeye said that Obasanjo never hid his alleged hatred for the former AGF by blaming Ige for the failure of the energy programme of his administration.

Out of the four ministers that held sway at the Ministry of Power and Steel during the Presidency of Obasanjo, he said that it was only Ige who served for11 months that was singled out for vilification.

In death, he said that Obasanjo knew that Ige could not rise to defend himself; hence he decided to denounce him as a minister who did not know his right hand from his left.

In his lecture titled, ”If Bola Ige were alive,” Adeyeye said that Bola Ige could have maintained a studied silence to the tantrums of the former President if alive.

Rising in defence of the late Ige, the lecturer maintained that the former President should have corrected within 85 months the lapses that occurred during the 11-month tenure of Ige.

Describing Obasanjo‘s presidency as inept and corrupt, Adeyeye asked rhetorically whether it was the late AGF that committed hundreds of billions of naira on road projects without results.

In a sarcastic tone, he said that Obasanjo could as well blame the late Ige for his botched and ill-conceived third term agenda on which huge resources, energy, time and emotions were wasted.

In a departure from popular belief, he said that the Peoples Democratic Party could still have manipulated the 2003 election in the Yoruba nation if Ige were alive.

He stressed that those who allegedly deployed repressive apparatus of the Federal Government to subvert the wishes of the electorate in 2007 were those that lost in previous relatively free and fair elections.

But for his death, he said Ige would have been bemused at the cadre of self-styled Awoists who allegedly rigged themselves into power in 2007.

Adeyeye said Ige would have been dismayed by the action of the fake Awoists whose party members made the destruction of the statue of Awolowo a priority on assumption of office.

He said, ”By now he would have expressed his sympathy for President Umaru Yar‘Adua as another good man who appears destined to fail as President of Nigeria.

”Ige would have been reminding Nigerians that being a good man is not sufficient qualification for leadership of a country.

”He would have cited Alhaji Shehu Shagari as a good man who was a miserable failure as President.

Nnamani's N50bn business empire crumbles
By Emma Chukwuanukwu (Lagos)and Emmanuel Nzomiwu (Enugu)

The on-going investigation of former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)has begun to take its tolls on the businesses he allegedly established while holding sway as the state's chief executive.

advertisement

Investigations by Sunday Independent revealed that many of the firms, all of which are under investigation by the EFCC, are experiencing low patronage or none at all as well as alleged mismanagement by those in charge.

The firms include Rainbownet, an integrated ICT company with the largest telecommunications network in the South East of Nigeria estimated to worth about N7 billion; Mea Mater Elizabeth College, a co-educational secondary school valued at over N5 billion, Renaissance University situated at Agbani and its Teaching Hospital which cost over N10 billion to build.

Others are Cosmo F.M Radio , a hi-tech digital radio station in Enugu valued at over N200 million; Capital City Motors Limited, which was the sole supplier of vehicles to the Enugu State government during Nnamani's administration valued at N1 billion and Hillgate Investments Limited, sole owners and managers of the famous Ebeano estates and other choice property in Enugu metropolis.

The EFCC had issued power of attorney to a private company, a Lagos-based property firm, Diya Fatilimehin and Company to manage the said firms pending the conclusion of the corruption and money laundering charges that it slammed against the ex-Governor who has vehemently denied ownership of the said firms.

Nnamani, in various newspaper adverts while in office, denied ownership of these investments and assets, but nobody has come forward to claim ownership of them.

Sources at the EFCC told Sunday Independent that one Mrs. Chinelo Nwigwe, whose names featured prominently as chairman of Rainbownet and other companies allegedly owned by Nnamani, had fled the country and is on the wanted persons list of the EFCC.

Investigations by Sunday Independent revealed that things are not normal with the said billion naira investments as they are on the verge of total collapse if nothing is done swiftly to salvage them.

When one of our reporters visited the Capital City Motors head office at Okpara Avenue, there was no sign of business in the complex as it has been over-grown by weeds.

While it was gathered that low patronage hit the firm that hitherto enjoyed high patronage by Enugu State Government in the days of Nnamani, a source disclosed that the company was forced to shut down when it could no longer settle its debt with Peugeot Automobile Nigeria, its major supplier.

Also, subscribers to Rainbownet Limited including cyber cafÈ operators have enjoyed epileptic services in recent time with the operations of the company almost halted as a result of alleged financial crisis a source blamed on the recklessness of the handlers of the business.

While Cosmo FM is still on the airwaves, the radio station is said to be having serious management problem that had eventually led to the resignation of its Managing Director, Mr. Jika Atto.

An informed source said that: "Ato had to resign when he could no longer contain the financial recklessness of the consultants whose main intent from on set, was to run the company down.

"You know Cosmo gets corporate adverts. I can tell you that at least N20 million gets into its account monthly. You see, before Cosmo was operating on diesel for 24 hours, but as soon as these people came, with the way they are spending, we were forced to complement with power from national grid and you know how reliable, it is."

Also, it was learnt that parents are withdrawing their wards from Mea Mater College in Agbani, Nnamani's hometown, as they could no longer cope with the uncertainty over the existence of the institution.

They are said to be afraid that the school is no longer secured.

It was learnt that when Nnamani was in power, no less than 10 riot policemen were on guard in the college located in a vast expanse of land, but with his exit, the police authorities in Agbai, Nkanu West Local Government Area of the State pulled their men out.

The insecurity was said to have affected Nnamani's country home when four of his dogs died on the same day as a result of suspected food poising.

The development, unfortunately, caused private security men in the ex-Governor's home their jobs.

A politician in the state who pleaded anonymity blamed the collapse of the investments on the lack of state funds to sustain them.

"These companies were being funded with Enugu State money before. Now that Nnamani is no longer in power, how do you expect them to survive? Of course they have to shut down and this should be a lesson for those in power today," the source said.

On Ayefele’s arrest in the US for drugs

By Our reader

According to some friends and fans of Yinka Ayefele in Nigeria, there has been a rumour spreading in Nigeria that the gospel juju artiste has been arrested for offence that borders on drug pushing and trafficking. The truth of the matter is that this is nothing but a huge joke, aimed by his detractors to smear his image and soaring reputation at home and abroad.

advertisement

I’m also a diehard fan of Mr. Yinka Ayefele. I have been following and monitoring his performances in various cities in the US since he came in last June.

These include Newark, (New Jersey), on August 8, Dallas July 23 and Houston (Texas), on July 25, Atlanta (Georgia) on July 4, Los Angeles, California on August 1, New York (three times) on 12 and 13 July at different venues, and on Sunday, August 31 with Lanre, O. Teriba, just to mention a few.

So I really don’t know where the story of his arrest for drug trafficking emanated from.

If you must know, this is the first time Yinka Ayefele would be performing live in the United States ever since he started his musical career that has spanned over a decade now. And his fans, having waited for that long, are really enjoying him and still cannot have enough of this great gospel music ambassador.

When I heard this rumour in my church in New York about two weeks ago, I talked to Yinka Ayefele himself on the phone and he asked me a simple question that I will like to also pose to everybody: Would someone in detention or prison be having a tour as he is doing right now?

Your answer and guess is as good as mine.
