1) Nigerians are very aggressive

2) Very very aggressive

3)very very very aggressive

4) They are very judgmental especially when it comes to African Americans without putting themselves in their shoes first.

5) Their judgmental attitude will lead to arrogance

6) from arrogance to "i am better than you" mentality when his/her home is in a shambles.

7) They are survivors though, that may be the reason why they are very aggressive

cool They like the shortest cut to success

9) Ostentation: They love to show off, be it cars, jewelries, clothes, certificates.

10) They like education, especially the southerners.

Why are the obama people fidgeting over a common internet polls. McCain is expected to get a bump after the convention. Didn't Obama get his own 8 or 10 point bump? Why didn't y'all complain when he got his own immediately after the convention? The truth is that you may be leading by 20 points and still fail the election. The reality of all these obama frenzy will dawn on you guys when white guys start visiting the poll and you'll see all Obama supporters practicing what they were not preaching. That is America for you.

I wonder what kind of house that is, maybe in this ghetto area Grin
Even if $500 can only pay house rent in the ghetto, is that not house rent anymore? Besides, there are many cities in the US $500 can pay their house rents in a nice area that is not exactly top notch for eg, North Carolina, South carolina, Texas, Lousiana, Pittsburgh, Georgia etc.

Just because you don't see the money has a chicken changed doesn't mean it isn't to some people
Let's assume you consider $500 as a chicken change. How many rural Nigerians living in penury have you helped with that chicken change? how many African kids have you spent $500 on their books, sandals, school clothes, medicine etc. I guess none. The likes of kanu Nwanko spends millions on Nigerian kids yearly and even though i may tolerate it if he calls $500 a chicken change, but i doubt if he'll do that because he doesn't spend his fortune on himself alone buying coach bags while calling $500 a chicken change.

I may have $500 in multiple places, but i'll surely feel bad if i lose any of them because it's not chicken change to me.
CelebritiesRe: Are Nigerians That Stupid? by DeepZone(op): 4:41pm On Sep 11, 2008
It does not mean that if a person spends even up to 1 million naira in a day , they earn that much per day.

Some people have money, some people don't, i agree , and what you spend your money is is entirely up to you,
different people had different reasons for giving themselves the luxury of going there, i agree

what i am arguing about is the fact that we consider the amount "chicken change" and i am saying, it is not chicken change in anybody's currency
just because people were willing to afford it to go for the concert

For example, if Koffi goes to Paris, and i happen to find myself there at the time,
and he says his concert is 100Euros, i will sacrifice the 100 euros for the pleasure of watching my favorite artist
But that does not make the 100Euros chicken change,
neither does it mean i EARN 100 euros a day.

so please let us get this right, there is no harm spending what ever amount of money you want on something of your choice
but the fact that you are willing to make the sacrifice for it does not make that amount MINIMAL to any and everybody.

Peace
@Bold, thak you.

10-Month-old baby rescues mum from ritualists

It was divine intervention a as a 10-month-old baby in Gombe, has saved his mother from being murdered and used for rituals.

According to the mother, Fatsuma Hassan, 35, resident of Bula village, near Gombe, she and her son had left home for Gombe last week.

She said: ‘’When we arrived Gombe and disembarked at Shongo motor park, a commercial motorcyclist approached me and enquired where I was going, I told him Chenchenya area.

‘’But as I was about to climb the bike, he removed N500 note, requesting for change and immediately I set my eyes on the note, I went off my senses.

‘’The next thing, I saw myself in front of a house with black gate and was forced to enter it.’’

The victim said that while in the house, she was forcefully undressed and her ampits, genital and head completely shaved: ‘’However, my baby boy, who was dropped on the floor became restless, crawling from one end of the house to the other and crying ceaselessly’’.

‘’At a point, he was crawling toward two containers of liquid substance, an action that infuriated a woman in the house, who then ordered that my son be restrained’’.

‘’The woman, who from all indications was one of the leaders in the house, queried the motorcyclist for bringing her a nursing mother.’’

According to Fatsuma, the woman then ordered that the ‘’troublesome boy’’ be handed over to his mother and they be released.

``Again, as the gate was opened and another motorcyclist ordered to drop me anywhere, I lost my senses for the second time, only to find myself close to a motor park in Nasarawo area of Gombe.

I could not recognise the motorcyclist that brought me, to the place,’’ she added.

Fatsuma said that the incident occurred between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and that she was not in a position to identify the area of the town she was taken to.

She stated that while in the house, she saw three other victims, two girls and a woman.

‘’I suspected the girls were caught while hawking fried yam and egg because I saw their wares in the house’’, Fatsuma further said.

Malam Hassan Dahiru, 77, father of Fatsuma and resident of Ungwan Misau in Gombe town, thanked God for sparing the live of his daughter, He advised people, especially women, to be extra- vigilant in their dealings with commercial motorcyclists.

Gombe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Baba Yola, told NAN, the News Agency of Nigeria that they had yet to receive any formal report on the incident, but promised to cross check with the DPO in charge of Nasarawo area.

The first gold came courtesy a superlative performance by Ruel Ishaku who lifted 169 kg to break the world record of Wu Guoying of China set in the Men's 48kg category.

Nigeria’s second gold medal was won by Eucharia Njideka Iyiazi in the Women’s F54 Shot Put event. The 25-year-old athlete heaved a distance of 10.96m to win the gold and earned for her self a new world record.

Meanwhile, the German wheelchair basketball player Ahmet Coskun who was sent home after failing a pre-games doping test.

German officials said Coskun’s urine test on Aug. 23 showed the presence of the banned substance Finasteride. The substance is used as a treatment for baldness, but also can mask the use of steroids.

Coskun is the second athlete kicked out of the Paralympics for doping.

Pakistani power-lifter Naveed Ahmed Butt was banned earlier in the week for two years after testing positive for the steroid methandienone metabolites.

Nigeria's Ejike sets new world record to clinch gold

NIGERIA yesterday added another medal to its medals' haul at the ongoing 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, as powerlifter Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike broke the world record of the 48kg category twice to win gold.

advertisement

Her winning mark was 130kg, while the old world record was 118kg held by Bian Jianxin of China.

The 31-year-old winner of the women's 44kg category in 2004 Athens Paralympics, bust into excitement after her feat.

"I like the feeling of breaking the world record," she said.

"Before I came here, I planned to break the world record. In Athens 2004 Paralympic Games, I was competing in the 44kg category and I broke the world record three times. This time, I moved to the 48kg category, as I did in Athens 2004 Paralympic Games, I set a world record, broke it, set it again and broke it again."

Beijing Paralympics is the third Paralympics for Ejike, who made her debut at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics and won silver in the 44kg category.

Wearing a pink shirt, Ejike seemed quite confident during the competition and improved the world record to 125kg in her first lift, and renewed it to 130kg in her second attempt.

The gold medallist was very happy to share her experience, "My secret of always breaking world record is discipline and hard work," she said.

The Hercules tried 137.5kg in her third lift, but failed. "To break the world record twice in a day is good enough for me," said Ejike.

The world record of women's 44kg is also held by Ejike, which is 127kg. She thought her new world record would stand long. "The world record I set in 44kg is still there, and maybe it will be the same for 48kg. But if I am still in this category, I will break it myself one day. My personal best is 142kg in training."

Though she has to use a wheelchair due to polio, Ejike has never lost her passion for life. "I can go anywhere like everybody else, and I really like powerlifting" she said. "I love bright colors, which makes me much happier. Pink is my colour."

Russia's Olesva Lafina effortlessly lifted 112.5 and 115kg in her first two attempts to win the silver

Nigeria releases and deports detained US filmmaker

US documentary filmmaker and journalist detained for spying in Nigeria's volatile oil-rich Niger Delta has been released, police and a Paris-based media watchdog said Wednesday.

"I can confirm that Andrew Berends has been released," a senior police officer in Rivers state told AFP, without giving details.

The Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said it was "relieved" Berends had been released, but said he had been interrogated for 10 consecutive days by the police.

RSF said Berends had been arrested "just for doing his job and no other reason".

Berends was arrested in Port Harcourt with his Nigerian translator Samuel George as well as a businessman on August 31.

"The translator and the businessman have been temporarily released yesterday but are still scheduled to report back to the security services tomorrow," the RSF said.

In April, four US documentary makers and their Nigerian fixer were held for six days on similar charges and in September last year two German journalists and a US activist were detained for two weeks.

The Niger Delta is Nigeria's oil hub where armed militant groups -- demanding greater control of the region's oil wealth by locals -- regularly attack installations and kidnap local and expatriate workers.

The unrest has reduced Nigeria's oil output by a quarter, causing it to lose its position as Africa's biggest oil producer to Angola, according to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The New York times in its story reported that Andrew Berends was deported by Nigeria on Tuesday.

“It’s a travesty, because I love Nigeria,” Mr. Berends was reported to have remarked before boarding a flight to Germany.

‘Nigerian children shun schools’

By Tobi Soniyi, Abuja

The Federal Government has said that enrolment in primary school has been slowing down, raising concerns that the country is far from realising the United Nations Millennium Development Goals on education.

advertisement

The UN’s MDG expects Nigeria to ensure that boys and girls complete primary school.

In a report submitted to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the government noted that enrolment in primary school had been nosediving for both boys and girls.

The report was submitted in line with Article 18 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

It says, “contrary to the data from previous years, primary school education enrolment between 2004 and 2006 among female children showed a downward trend from 80 per cent to 60.4 per cent of the total number of girls that are within the age of enrolment.

“The trend was similar to that of boys which dropped from 80 per cent to 64 per cent within the same period.”

Member nations of the UN are expected to submit periodic reports detailing how they have implemented the convention, according to the report obtained by our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday.

The UN Committee had accused Nigeria of not spending enough on education.

Under the MDGs of the UN, every country is expected to ensure that by 2015, children everywhere complete primary school.

Nigerian children are not only shunning primary schools, they are similarly not keen on secondary school education, the report says.

“The same trend was observed at the secondary school level, where in 2004, the enrolment rate dropped from 83.4 per cent to 46 per cent among female students,” the report added.

The report further showed that in terms of boys to girls enrolment ratio in primary school, a marginal increase was noticed in 2004 above that of 2003. It, however, dropped slightly in 2005.

There are also wide disparities in enrolment and attendance ratios within and between the different geographical zones.

According to findings from the 2004, Nigeria Demographic Data Survey, there are differences in the Gross Attendance Ratio by sex within the different regions.

In the South West, there is a gap in favour of females while there is a near parity in the North Central and a narrow gender gap in the South East and the South- South. In the North West and North East, there is a notable gender gap in favour of male youth.

Government said that efforts at addressing these negative trends were targeted at the Northern states and a few states in the eastern and western parts of the country.

The report shows that female children are worse off in enrolment in schools.

To address this imbalance, government said that the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund was implementing a National Girl-Child Education Programme.

“The programme is designed to tackle the problem of lack of water and poor sanitary conditions in unity schools located in 19 states of the federation,” the report added.

The report also identified lack of water and poor sanitary conditions in the schools as major factors that discouraged parents from sending their female children who have attained the age of puberty to school.

To increase enrolment, retention and completion rates among primary school children, the Federal Government said it had commenced the implementation of the Home Grown School Feeding and Health Programme which it said, was currently being piloted in 12 states.

“The programme serves as an incentive to encourage parents to allow their children attend school as it reduces the amount of money they spend on feeding their wards,” the report added.

NFF orders Siasia to stop celebrating
By Tony Ezimakor, Snr Correspondent Abuja

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Secretary General, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, has ordered Coach Samson Siasia to call a halt to his celebration of the silver medal outing at the Beijing Olympic Games and return immediately to the glasshouse for further instructions.

While he admitted that the performance calls for celebrations, Ojo-Oba cautioned Siasia and jubilant soccer fans not to allow it get into their heads. He pointed out that the federation's task of developing future You-23 Team and indeed other national teams is still not completed.

He told the national hero to immediately report to base and stop using the media to communicate to the football federation.

"I think the celebration is over. Siasia should report to base and stop using the media to send messages to us. Yes, the victory calls for celebration, but after that there is a lot of work to do. He should report and await further instructions on what to do. This is where he draws his salaries. We know that this team will not be the next Olympic team. We have a task to develop future talents. Look, we should not allow this victory get into our heads," he said.

Ojo-Oba, who said he has nothing against offers that are coming for the ex-international, noted that such offers are indications that the country's football is on the upswing.

"Clubs come here for our players and we also go out in search of foreign coaches. If people make inquiries about our products, that means we are doing well," he added.

The NFF scribe also cautioned against any attempt to hurry members of the silver winning team to the senior national team, which he stressed must be gradual.

"It is not our desire to jeopardise the career of these boys. They have a duty to perform for their clubs. It is not proper for us to take them straight from the Olympics to South Africa. They are committed to their clubs. We still have a match against Sierra Leone. I think we should all wait and see whether or not they will be part of the plans".

Jubilation in Maiduguri over Kingibe's sack
By Innocent Oweh (Abuja) Rafiu Ajakaye (Lagos) Gbenga Abegunrin (Ibadan) and Abdulkareem Haruna (Maiduguri)

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Baba Gana Kingibe, on Tuesday handed over to Yayale Ahmed even as Maiduguri erupted in bizarre jubilation following his sack.

The ceremony was dotted with sad reminiscences and attended by key ministerial personnel in Abuja.

Kingibe recalled that his years of experience and experimentation in the political cycle were enough to keep him relevant in the scheme of affairs, but urged Yayale to be wary of the challenges of the office he is inheriting because "the nation is entering the implementation phase of consolidating economic, political and attitudinal transformation established by the present administration.

"To be at the vortex of development at these times is both exciting and challenging. The expectations of our people are high, may God give you the strength, wisdom and confidence to play your part.

"The issue of going into retirement does not arise now, because I do not have the capital to invest in farming or do other business. I am going to do what I know best, which is to hold together all men of goodwill behind our national endeavour, which invariably is to fulfill the promise of greatness through Yar'Adua.

Kingibe was until Monday the SGF - a seat he lost for allegedly eyeing the Presidency and running out of favour with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hawks, who felt threatened by his stranglehold on government activities.

But no one is losing sleep over the man's lot even in Maiduguri, Borno, his home state.

It was a clear case of a prophet rejected at home and abroad when Kingibe's kinsmen chose to celebrate his sack, peppered by criticisms of his past by agitators of democracy down South.

Barely 30 minutes after the news broke, residents of Maiduguri jumped in excitement at the fall of Kingibe, who the ruling All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Borno State see as a political threat.

Chief among those celebrating were ANPP members, who were seen at several spots clapping and shaking hands, as they passed the news that may see Kingibe, a long-standing diplomat, go into retirement.

Although officials at Government House, Maiduguri, declined comment on the matter, most considered the development as a major political achievement for the ANPP because they feared Kingibe could use his influence to manipulate the 2011 elections to favour the PDP.

"Oh boy, I hope you are aware that Kingibe has finally been shown the way out! I mean sacked by his boss," said a text message forwarded to journalists in the state by one anonymous person.

Residents spoken to insisted that, "the sack does not make any difference to the people of Borno. Whether Kingibe remained the SGF of not, Borno State stands to lose nothing because since he was appointed to that exalted office, he has not done anything significant that could make people feel his absence on that seat."

ANPP Secretary in Borno, Yusuf Adamu, added: "Kingibe is one politician whose personality and political influence is not felt in Borno State. So, we will not see it a setback; instead we will even hail the appointment of his predecessor, Yayale Ahmed who is from Bauchi State.

Mustapha Bukar, a youth member of PDP in Borno, said the sack was the wisest thing Yar'Adua has done since he was elected last year. According to him, "As long as Kingibe remained the SGF the PDP in Borno lost focus, quality leadership and decorum.

"We know of many politicians who after getting federal appointments went to their various constituencies and states to see their people and even address them. But here, we had an SGF whose powers are well-known and even feared in the nation, yet he has not even for one day deemed it fit to come home and see his people and party men. He stayed in Abuja issuing orders over how the party should be run or over how party officials in the state would be imposed on the membership."

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) said on Tuesday that it will shed no tears for Kingibe, but branded the cabinet shake-up a "diversionary tactic to deceive the unwary".

CD President, Joe Okei-Odumakin, reacted in a telephone interview that the sack was "cosmetic", and called on President Umaru Yar'Adua to match his actions with campaign pledges.

"Ordinarily, one would not want to comment about the sack of Kingibe, because he had said that our votes did not bring Yar'Adua to office," Okei-Odumakin said, adding: "The whole scene is just cosmetic, like putting an old wine in new bottle, and the whole thing goes sour. So, we view the latest event as diversionary, to deceive the unwary and make people feel the government is moving us forward."

On Tuesday, Aso Rock announced the sack of Kingibe days after ailing Yar'Adua returned from Saudi Arabia where the State House claimed he had gone on Umrah, or the Leser Hajj.

The National Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Olapade Agoro, described the sack of Kingibe as the best step Yar'Adua ever took.

He nonetheless warned Yar'Adua to be wary of Kingibe's loyalists, who he claimed constitute more than 70 per cent of the administration.

Agoro told a press conference in Ibadan that Kingibe was too ambitious to serve in the administration of a gentleman like Yar'Adua, and knocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for treating the ill-health of the President in a manner that heightens tension nationwide.

His words: "Yar'Adua's health, much as it is painful and hurtful to the people and progress of this country, should not be a source of joy to Yar'Adua's enemies in the PDP, who are seriously undermining the security and progress of the country."

Agoro urged Yar'Adua to populate his cabinet with friends in the opposition - in the spirit of a consensus government - rather than hang on to PDP hawks he denounced as encumbrances.

While the majority of Nigerian power projects are awarded to companies with foreign origins and its Independent Power Projects (IPPs) still enmeshed in controversies, a company by a Nigerian is championing the execution of power projects in neighbouring African countries.

The company, Genesis Electricity, THISDAY gathered, has successfully completed various projects both in the area of power and infrastructure development in Guinea Bissau as well as Sao Tome and Principe.
