@Deepzone, gosh! You need to chill out with the outburst and name-calling. We don't want to go there now, do we??A media LovePeddler is one that believes anything he/she hears from the media including the internet. I repeat they're not in high demand!!! Well, i haven't been to europe or asia. So, let me base this on just african countries, how many people got health insurance in Nigeria?? when you get the correct number, get back at me. How many nursing homes are there in Nigeria?? Like i said earlier,Health care is very important in America. Why make a general statement if you haven't been to Europe and the middle east or ask questions? That's why most immigrants who move to the states choose nursing. Go to most colleges, they tell you how many people want to get into their nursing program and how there's little space left. It only takes 4 years to become a registered nurse and maybe an additional 2 years to be a nurse practitioner. Compare that to other courses and you'D know why they choose nursing.Immigrants mainly choose nursing not only because of the duration but for the fact that it affords them more opportunity to work anywhere and still make a decent living with less segregation and racism. Ask those in corporate America and other careers what they go through here because of their origin. Like i said, the doctors barely knew how anything in the hospital works. Most of them just got out of school and had no experience but in Nigeria, once you bear the title "doctor", you are supposedly better than a nurse.Someone is seriously lying to you. I don't know where your mother met the so called "quack" doctors but your story is way over exaggerated. Nurses anyway always boast they have equivalent knowledge with the doctor but will never go to medical school or haven't you heard technicians say the same thing about Engineers? How come Nigerian doctors come over here and pass the American board exam which is arguably the most difficult in the world? Why should white american nurses have to have the same problem?? that doesn't justify anything. Although it's totally understandable why they don't have the same problem. Firstly, they've lived here all their lives. They were not brought here/trained through school by their husbands and then expected to be slaves because of this fact. Secondly, their husbands don't feel as if their wives are obligated to succumb to their every need just because they brought 'em over to the states. They work longer than their wives, they're the sole providers, and make sure she doesn't work 16 hours everyday. By the way, some nurses earn thousands of hundreds. How did you come by that conclusion? None of the reasons above is enough to make you a general asshole. Most Nigerian nurses in America are assholes, they lack manners and it's not limited to their husbands and the root of their arrogance stems from the fact that their pocket is fatter than any other. I remember when I was driving truck after college here , i made more money than I'm making now in a goddamn white collar job(although the stress is reduced sha), I still remember a Nigerian nurse from my place that arrogantly told me how the world is in her pocket and how her engineer husband is bringing home 60K/PA, she went ahead to tell me that her husband is so useless that after 20'something years in America, he hardly earns more than a truck driver(that will be me, coincidentally i was making about 120K/PA driving that truck). Who told you nurses make tonnes of thousands? Forget that fairy tale until you get in the train. How many hotels or business empires did your mom raise with her "thousands"? No be nurse she be? For a nurse to take home $10K in a month in America, she must be doing something else beside nursing(i don't care how many hrs she worked) and even that will not qualify as tonnes of thousand. how are you so sure that they do not "deride" their partners?? You've yet to hear of other ones, that doesn't mean they don't exist. you're a firm believer in equity, well so am I. I don't think that if all the responsibility wasn't placed on the wife nurse, there'D be a need for her to disrespect her husband or whatever they did to have caused their murders. It makes no sense that a man would be complaining of being disrespected when his wife pays all the bills, works longer hours than him, etc. I am 100% sure that if the husbands were able to provide for their families, these women would be happy to even be housewives. you can't provide, yet you complain. Seriously, the woman is only one person. One person can only do so much.It doesn't make sense to me either but you are seriously overlooking a factor here. Some of these men do not have any other option. Are you suggesting they abandon their families and walk because they don't have any money? Have you ever considered what you'll do later in life if those children you made and enjoyed the nurses "thousands" turned out bad later in life(especially boys because they always do if there is no father). What then did you gain from your thousands except misery at old age? The problem with us black women is "short memory", do you even think about the consequences of what we are doing to our families today over some goddamn change? So what you are saying is that you won't have a problem if your husband derides and abuse you as long as he's paying the bills? Is that what you are insinuating since you believe in equity like me? What is good for the Geese, should also be good for the gander. . I'm definitely not for divorce but it would have prevented all these murders. how many were there again?? 6, 7. . . To me, there's nothing worse than taking another person's life. Only God can do that. And there can never be a reason to murder anyone not to mention your wife. No matter what the victim did. These men did not "make" their wives. Ok, some of 'em brought the wives abroad, so?? she then disrespects you, gently walk away. Ain't that hard to do.Much as I agree with you on this one, you need to let the women understand that hurting someone's ego can also have severe consequences including karma. Have you noticed the rate most kids born to Nigerian parents here desert their parents once they turn 18? Most of those kids came from homes where daddy and mummy were working all day as nurses. Now , they have the money but the kids they worked for ignored them. Chasing away your husband to Nigeria may make those kids turn against you later in life, it's happening everyday now here in maryland. Well, i showed this story to my mom. She was shocked and sad for these women. She then laughed and told me not to worry because hers can never be like that. Her story is not like that of these women.Could it be because she's mature and well cut? ask her about disrespecting your dad because she prolly makes more money and see what she'll tell you. Life does not begin and end with pounds and dollars, else, the likes of Bill Gates, warren Buffet, Diddy, Michael Jackson(I hope he still got some left) will be the happiest in the world. Did you see how the media has been making jest of beautiful Jennifer Aniston since her last break up, she couldn't find a man even with her millions. How many break ups now? Probably, someone is not telling her that she may have an attitude that is chasing these men away as soon as they sleep with her but how can she see that if she's too arrogant. The same applies to all of us(both men and women). Nursing should be a passionate job and not a money making venture. If the nurses can tell you the truth about their pocket, you'll discover that they did not even make the top ten rich professionals in America. Also check the rich Nigerian people living around you(I don't mean those that live in big houses, big car and big debt) and see how many of them that are nurses. Well, i meant that some of the nurses in the states have just as much the same qualifications as some doctors in Nigeria. Undecidedanother big lie. An old nurse may have a similar experience but not same qualification. Medicine is different from nursing and don't ever believe you know more than those Goro chopping doctors up north. Reduce the arrogance and hear those people out. You may be exposed to more modern machines, but it's entirely different from your expertise although it'll enhance and flavor it. |

Rivers to establish community police Written by George Onah Friday, August 22, 2008 THE Rivers State Government plans to establish community police corps to shore up security in every part of the state as well as “provide a more peaceful and secured environment for the people.” To this end the government has called on interested indigenes of the land to show up for recruitment in the exercise that is being carried out by the Nigeria Police, requesting that nothing can be too much in its quest to secure lives and property in the state. In addition the government has mapped out plans to construct 10 model secondary schools across the state. Canada and Russia have indicated their willingness to participate in the growth of education in the state. Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, Commissioner for Information, Ogbonna Nwuke said the decision, which is the outcome of the State Executive Council “would see three of the schools being built in Rivers East, four in Rivers South East and three in west senatorial district.” Nwuke announced that the construction of the schools was under a partnership arrangement and advised indigenes of the state to “key into the programme for their own benefit and the benefit of the state.” Disclosing other discussions at the meeting, Commissioner for Works, Mr. Dakuku Peterside said the motor spare parts market at Ikoku, along Olu Obasanjo Road would be relocated to a more convenient site at Akpajo, Eleme Council. Peterside said the relocation was in line with government’s vision to “transform Port Harcourt to a modern city where people can live and do business.” In addition, the Power Ministry has been directed to offer suggestions on how the entire city can be connected to the national grid. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/aug/22/312.html |

Okereke-Onyiuke must return N100m donation - EFCC - Passport seized, returned Lanre Adewole, Abuja Friday, August 22, 2008 IF the reported stance of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is anything to go by, then the Director-General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Professor (Mrs.) Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, would refund to the last kobo, the donations made to the ‘Obama for Africa’ project. advertisement The money realised at the controversial concert was put at over N100 million. A very reliable source within the commission revealed to the Nigerian Tribune that it had been made clear to her by the commission that the entire money realised at the ceremony must be refunded to the last kobo. The source, who could not be categorical on her possible prosecution, added that what was paramount now was the recovery of the money before any other step would be taken on the matter. It was further gathered that her refusal to cough up the money could eventually lead to her prosecution. Nigerian Tribune also learnt that Okereke-Onyiuke was detained overnight at the commission’s facility contrary to her claim published in one of the dailies (not Nigerian Tribune) that she slept in her hotel room in Abuja on Wednesday night. She was also reported to have claimed that she was not in contact yet with EFCC as of Wednesday night. Commission’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, confirmed to the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday that she was still undergoing interrogation at about 4.00 p.m. He, however, hinted at the possibility of her release yesterday, after the investigators must have been through with her. A source disclosed that her international passport had earlier been seized by the commission, but was later returned to her in the belief that she could not possibly run away from her prominent job. She was missing at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of First Bank Plc which took place in Abuja on Thursday. While denying being detained by the commission, Okereke-Onyiuke was quoted as saying that she was actually in Abuja for the First Bank event. She is said to be a director of the bank. A source in the commission noted that she was able to make the alleged false claim because outside contacts were allowed on Wednesday, but that the grace was not availed her on Thursday following the said report, with the source saying that those in doubt should try her mobile phone to see if they would get through. Okereke-Onyiuke was summoned and detained by the commission on Wednesday following a petition reportedly written by Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo, against the fundraising for the presumptive Democratic candidate in the United States presidential election in November, Senator Barack Obama. The commission reportedly summoned her to explain who the N100 million allegedly realised at the event was meant for, following the rejection of the donation by the Obama campaign organisation. Okereke-Onyiuke had said that the money raised at the event was not for Obama. The commission wanted Okereke-Onyiuke to explain why she spearheaded the event despite knowing that electoral laws in America did not allow such donations. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/aug/22/607.html |

Serial rapist arrested By NGOZI UWUJARE, Ibadan Friday, August 22, 2008 A notorious armed robber, who combines his nefarious trade with serial raping of his victims, has been nabbed by the police in Ibadan. Twenty six-year-old Sodiq Olayinwo (a.k.a One-Man Mopol) confessed to having raped more than 20 women during various robbery operations in the Oyo State capital. https://odili.net/news/source/2008/aug/22/sun/tt.jpg •Sodiq Olayinwo, who is currently answering questions from detectives at the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on his involvement in several robberies in the metropolis, told Daily Sun that he was a one-man robbery squad that deceived his victims into believing that a gang was involved. According to the suspect, he usually stormed the houses of his victims at about 2.00 am, raising a bedlam by menacingly shouting that they (robbers) were many outside and ordering them to come and open the doors. The panic-stricken members of the households under invasion, often meekly complied, ushering Olayinwo in and offering him their valuables, including phone handsets, jewelry and money, the loot he normally demanded apparently because he could not carry heavier objects. Sometimes he broke in through windows. Before his arrest, the robbery suspect had given residents of Oke-Itunu, Veterinary Area, Coca-Cola, Mokola as well as Apete, which are his haunts, nightmares. “I always shout at the victims that we are many, but I used to be the only person who comes around to rob them. Sometimes, I demand sex, sleeping with mother and daughter,” Olayinwo said, putting the numbers of victims he had raped at over 20 in recent times. Daily Sun learnt from some of the victims, who besieged the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele when they heard of Olayinwo’s arrest, said the suspect often held the neighbourhood hostage for about two and a half hours, robbing houses one after another. Recounting her ordeal during one of the robbery operations, a housewife (names withheld) told Daily Sun that Olayinwo invaded her house on June 28, this year, raping her in the presence of her husband. “On that fateful day, said the victim he (suspect) came around 2 a.m, knocked at the door and shouted at us that we should open the door and we complied.” She added: “I told my husband to give him all he wanted. He collected our money and handsets. Then he requested to sleep with me or kill my children if I refused. He had to rape me in the presence of my husband and children. Talking to Daily Sun the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bashiru Azeez said it was quite unfortunate that such miscreants were in the state. He said the suspect had confessed to the crime and that some of the victims had identified him. The police boss said on the strength of the evidence, Olayinwo would be charged to court soon. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/aug/22/507.html |
Islamic body issues Fatwa on man with over 80 wives From Saxone Akhaine, Kaduna JAMA'TU Nasril Islam (JNI), the highest Moslem body in northern Nigeria, has passed a death verdict (Fatwa) on Muhammadu Bello Masaba, a resident of Bida in Niger State for having married 80 wives, which was said to be contrary to the religion. advertisement In a statement from its secretariat in Kaduna, the body pointed out that unless Masaba repented within four days and only four wives from the horde, he remained condemned to death according to Sharia law. The Central Fatwa Committee of the JNI, in the statement signed by its chairman, Sheikh Usman Abubakar Babatunde and Secretary-General Abdulkarim Mu'azu, said that any Moslem who married more than the approved number of wives at a time either by mistake or out of ignorance is instructed to choose but only four and ask for Allah's forgiveness. Sheikh Babatunde argued that the convict challenged any Moslem scholar who has any order within the Quranic context that restricted marriage to only four wives, but said that "he would wish to also know that there is punishment that Allah (S.W.T) has prepared here in this world or hereafter for any Moslem who has transgressed this boundary to have married more than four wives". He added: "Though Masaba gave his reference from the Holy Quran Suratun Nisa'i in which Allah says women of your choice, two or three or four, vividly he is absolutely ignorant of the proper meaning of this verse according to the Standing Fatwa Committee of JNI. "The authentic Islamic scholars had confirmed this same verse as the verse which restricted the number of wives not to be more than four. This is due to the fact that it is only scholars/ jurists who have technical know-how of the verse in question and they alone would handle it". But northern civil rights coalition leader and chairman, Socialists Front, Malam Shehu Sani, condemned the decision of the Fatwa Committee of JNI which passed the death sentence on Masaba. According to him, it is hypocritical for the committee to shut its eyes away from the actions of emirs and other leaders in the north that marry more than the prescribed number of wives by the holy book (Quran), but sentence Malam Masaba to death. Sani said: "The decision stands condemned. This is a society where we have emirs that marry more than four wives, including uncountable concubines. The same applies to our other leaders here. Why victimize Masaba by passing Fatwa on him? We will not accept it." Sani added that instead of the JNI to address the socio-economic problems in the society created by the leaders in the North, "they are trying to chase shadow." http://odili.net/news/source/2008/aug/22/17.html |

NDLEA arrests 69-year-old carpenter, others over alleged drug trafficking By Wole Shadare (Lagos) and Isa Abdulsalami (Jos) A SIXTY-NINE-year-old man, Adewole Emmanuel Eniola and Okoye Dozie Ndubisi, 37, have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly ingesting substances suspected to be cocaine. advertisement The suspects were caught on Tuesday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos during screening of passengers at the central screening point. After testing positive for drug ingestion, Eniola, a grandfather, repeatedly denied that he did ingested drugs until he began to excrete drugs under observation. Ndubisi, who is a motorcycle spare parts dealer in Nnewi, was arrested while on his way to DŸsseldorf, Germany. He confessed to have ingested 60 wraps of cocaine and inserted eight wraps in his anus. The father of two said that he would have been paid 3,000 Euros for carrying the drugs. In a related development, a 68-year-old woman standing trial for being in possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp has been arrested again for being in possession of 1.5 kilogrammes of Indian hemp. The suspect, simply identified as Hajiya Lami, was yesterday paraded with 12 others by the Plateau State Command of NDLEA. According to the command's chief, Mrs. Omolade Omole, Lami was only granted bail in March this year and her case is still pending in court. Also paraded was a 60-year-old woman, allegedly caught with 32 kilogrammes of Indian hemp and who, according to Omole, was once arrested in Edo State for a similar offence. Two of her children are reportedly standing trial for allegedly dealing in Indian hemp. Also, a 22-year-old who just finished serving a nine-month jail term for selling Indian hemp was arrested for the same offence two weeks after regaining his freedom. He blamed poverty for his situation, saying having dropped out of school following his father's death, "life has not been easy." Omole expressed worry over the increasing consumption of Indian hemp in Plateau State, disclosing that 45.5 kilogrammes of the drug has so far been seized in the state this month as compared to 18.5 kilogrammes seized last month. She also urged the public to liaise with the agency to check the trend and stressed the need for parents to closely monitor their children and wards so that they do not get involved in crime. Reacting to Eniola's arrest, Chief Executive, NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, said: "He has not shown a good example for his children to emulate. Ordinarily, the suspect would have been given the benefit of the doubt based on the age, but when there is reasonable cause for suspicion, any doubt must be cleared. It is really sad for a grandfather at 69 to ingest drugs. He will be charged to court because the law has no respect for age." Eniola, who is a carpenter, was nabbed at about 10.00p.m. while attempting to board a British Airways flight to London under the guise of attending furniture and accessories trade show in Florida. He confessed to have ingested 100 wraps of the drug, which he bought for N800,000. His words: "I have a trade show in Florida and I also needed money to expand my furniture business. I bought the drug for N800,000, and I swallowed 100 pieces. N500,000 was my personal money while N300,000 was borrowed. The people that introduced me into the business promised to sell it for me over there if I had been successful. I only wanted to use the opportunity of the trade to raise money because of bad living condition." The father of six children with two wives lives at Adedolapo Street, Ikotun, Lagos. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/aug/22/23.html |
