Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do People Find It Difficult To Pay Back Debt? by dein77(op): 10:52pm On Oct 16, 2014
This isn't an isolated case. A few years ago, I lent my in law # 100K when he and his wife (my sister) had nothing. He promised to pay back in a few days time. He's yet to pay me.

My sister took sides with him. Today, both of them don't talk to me.

The most annoying aspect is losing my money alongside their relationship.

Sometimes they put up a front that's very difficult to see through. Once every iota of lack of trust is removed, they strike.

That's unprecedented wickedness. I think I will have to stop lending cash to me altogether.

I created a thread days ago asking a similar question- about y christians hav no integrity wen it comes to money issues.

Sorry about the incident, i've been similarly bitten. Money is a thing close to peoples heart, closer than som imagine, tht y wen u see strange bhviour in money matters ur really seeing the persons tru nature- and it is ugly in most.
But on d positive side, you wudnt hav known ur friend's tru nature concerning money except this happened.
It was indeed depressing. Like you said, the money revealed his true nature. Hitherto he had been very friendly, helpful and nice. Obviously it was simply a smokescreen.

Stop lending money to people.

Give them what you can afford and wish them luck.
I'm deeply considering applying this formula. The good one did shouldn't bring distress and disappointment.

I have had some terrible experiences with people when it comes to collecting back money lent to them. In the extreme cases, I lost both the money and the friendship.

Recently I lent an acquaintance 60K when he claimed his landlord was about to throw him out. He promised to pay back in days. It's being over 8 months, and he's yet to repay me. This guy would log off on Facebook as soon as he notices i'm online. Investigation revealed he never had a rent issue with his landlord.

Worse is, I met me around our axis. Guess what? He went to show me a Camry Tiny Light he recently bought.

That was the height of ingratitude and insensitivity. He promised to pay after we met the last time. He no longer picks my calls.

Why do people find it difficult to repay money they had borrowed?

Grace opens the door; faith is the means by which we access the door, thereby completing the salvation experience. None functions without the other. It that simple!

@shidemi i know i sounded like that but that is not what i meant.no man can overcome sin except by the power of the Holy Spirit.but we must kill SELFiShness in our lives.our three greatest enemies as christians are flesh satan and the world.of course we have to renew our mind with the word of God daily must but if we ignore those three enemies they will SURELY make us disobey God.the reason why many clergy are found in fornication and adultery is not because they have not studied the word but they have ignore their Flesh.they forgot to mortify it's desires by dying daily like paul said.the flesh cannot please God.it must die.90 Percent of our problems come from unsubdued flesh.it is even the reason why many cannot study the word effectively and meditate on it to get revelation.they prefer to do sonething else.it is sign of unsubdued flesh.God can give us the grace and power to overcome and crucify this flesh but we must do it ourselves.God will not bear our cross for us we must take it up and follow him remember.Christianity is also about sacrifice.
Really deep. Dying to self is much more deeper than dying to sin.
I agree with you sir.

Can a Christian opt out?

Will he/ she go to hell for it?
Christians can't avoid it. The devil, their former master still wants their loyalty and worship, hence He won't just easily let them be. The Kingdom of God and that of the devil are in a great controversy, and this battle will last as long as the devil isn't eventually defeated.

But the good news, we don't actually fight in this battle; we simply claim the victory handed over to us by Christ, through faith.

Lastly, Christianity isn't all about avoiding hell. That's part of it though.

Christianity is about having a wonderful and personal relationship with God, through Christ.

This italo guy is something else, phew!

Take the nairaland award for dumbest arguments, if anything of the nature exist. Imagine if you were Peter in the trance, been asked by the same God who had earlier said all you shall eat is kosher. All of a sudden the same God appears to say, 'now, eat this four footed beast', will you stand there to argue or refuse based on what He had said before.

Isn't God sovereign! The same God that gave israel the temple worship and killing of bulls and other rituals for atonement of sins says 'none of that anymore', now there is a one off sacrifice that does not only atone but remit the sins once and for all.

Likewise, the same Jesus who obeyed the laws and the works of the law before his death gave Paul the message of 'the gift of salvation apart from works'.

James, Peter and the rest never had this full revelation and the holistic meaning of 'the power of God unto salvation to all who will believe'. How could they? They had lived all their lives practicing these things and also with the master practicing similar things without reproach, simply because the time had not come for the shift. Peter, James and the rest still worshipped in the Jewish temple in Jerusalem for a long while after the death of Christ, not until it was eventually brought down.

Peter realised the meaning of the death of Christ when he visited cornelius who happen to be a gentile. He did not visit cornelius without making it clear that it was anathema before christ died for him to be found in the house of a gentile. To his surprise, Jesus revealed Himself even among the gentiles who knew nothing about the law or works the jews practice.

Peter did not only become an alibi to Paul when the jews felt all Paul was preaching was heresy, he also pointed them to Paul's message if they must be saved.
2 pet 3:15
And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

I implore you, my friend to read your Acts of Apostles to understand the swift change in administration and dispensation that brought most of the religious practices even in the four gospels obsolete.
I knew it would eventually come down to this. But you shouldn't have taken it personal. I left the argument in wisdom and good faith when it became obvious it was futile.

Christianity Etc › Pls Quote And Explain Your Favourite Bible Verse. by dein77(op): 7:49am On Oct 15, 2014
There are scores of Bible Verses that minister strongly to my spirit. But my most profound and favourite is 2 Cor 5:21....
'' For He had made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God'"......

Below is my understanding of this verse:

As Christ, Who knew no sin of His own, was made a sin offering for us all, so we, who have no righteousness of our own, are made the righteousness of God in Him.

Our reconciliation to God is only through Jesus Christ, and for the sake of His merit: on Him therefore we must rely, and make mention of His righteousness and His only.

Please, drop yours and run a little commentary on it.

Thanks.

Believers are saved unto good works. They are not saved because of good works. Read vv46..it says the righteous to eternal life. Once a believer accepts the gift of salvation which is free, he has eternal life and it comes naturally for him to do good especially to those of the household of faith.

1. You are saved by faith already. Righteousness is imputed to u as u become born again. Ur salvation is not later after ur works are judged. Reconciling with God (in & thru Christ) is salvation. Good works doesnt even come into play in this transaction. If it did, there would hv been no need for Jesus

2. Yes! Jesus said so

3. We are already citizens of heaven now! The life we have received is an outpouring of love. We cannot NOT do good. Once u receive the Holy Spirit, like Jesus, u go abt doing good! It is an offshoot of this marvelous fellowship we have with the Father through his Spirit.

Paul was in no way negating the fact that no one sees God except through Christ. He made it clear that 'all have sinned' and none is righteous. The man with the law of moses is as bad as the man without the law.

Verse 16 says even those without the law could be accused or excused when all men shall not only be judged by what they do but by their secret thoughts. No man will see God if we all face God to present some of our secret thoughts.

Paul broke the bubble of the religous man in chapter 3 where he hit the nail firmly on the head.

20 For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God (although it is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed— 22 namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. 24

No man, no work is righteous outside the faithfulness of christ that is available to all who shall believe. Salvation is God's gift bestowed on us and not a wage we have to get by works or by doing good.
Tell them oooo. We don tell them tire. Dem no dey gree!
