Christianity EtcRe: Love And Submission by dein77(m): 12:14pm On Oct 30, 2014
I have been keenly watching from the sidelines, and have read arguments and counter-arguments. I cant give an answer that will be acceptable to both sides. All I can say is that, from my experience as a married man, the more LOVE I show to my wife, the more SUBMISSIVE she becomes.
Christianity EtcRe: The Good News by dein77(m): 11:56am On Oct 30, 2014
The Good News is about reconciling lost mankind back to God. Its about restoring our lost relationship with God. The Good News is life. The Good News is Christ.
Christianity EtcAtheists Vs Christians: Needless Wars. by dein77(op): 11:48am On Oct 30, 2014
I started frequenting this section a few weeks ago. And most of the times its like the Christians and Atheists are engaged in some kind of an unwritten scuffle. Its as if the Christians are pitched against the Atheists. This ought not so to be.

For the records, I'm a Christian(not religious though). But I get worried over these unending bickering.

Nobody should vilify another on the account of their beliefs; everyone's entitled to their beliefs.

I know there is GOD, and if anyone says otherwise, I quietly let them be.

As a Christian, I have no grouse with them Atheists.

Their stance never affects my perception about their human sides.

Lets stop quarrelling them. We cant defeat them. Period.

Their hardline stance on GOD further encourages me to believe more in the LORD ALMIGHTY.......

I have had personal encounters with God.

Shalom.

Usually taken during communion. I love this hymn.
A very solemn and humbling Hymn.

Pls permit me to add a stanza:

Forbid it Lord that I should boast'
Save in the death of Christ my God;
All the vain things that charm me most'
I sacrifice them to His blood....

Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee
Christianity EtcRe: Preach The Gospel Not Condemnation by dein77(m): 9:08am On Oct 30, 2014
Thank you. I have already complained about it. The Gospel is the Good News that Christ has paid for all the sins of mankind, and that hence they are free to embrace the gift of eternal life offered by Him.

We should invite sinners to Christ!

This solemn hymn has more than one tune to it.

It's also one of my bests.

Used to assist my Assembly prefect back in sec school days. Hence I know a good number of Hymns.

Let finish it for him
2 Where is thy reign of peace
And purity and love?
When shall all hatred cease,
As in the above?

3. When comes the promised time
That war shall be no more,
And lust,oppression,crime
Shall flee thy face before?

4 We pray thee,Lord arise,
And come in thy great might;
Revive our longing eyes,
Which languish for thy sight

5 Men scorn thy scared name,
And wolves devour thy fold;
By many deeds of shame
We learn that love grows cold

6 O'er hearthen lands afar
Thick darkness broodeth yet:
Arise , O morning star,
Arise, and never set!
Read the lines and get the meaning
Thanks a lot.

True that. Many just want something they believe they can get by their own power so they hold on to God while the period of lack or surfering lasts. As soon as condition becomes good, they become "normal" doing the ussual stuff they offten do before condition struck.
I think the same too. We don't actually love God; we serve Him because of what we want to get.

Christianity EtcWith Better Economic Conditions, Would We Still Be This Religious? by dein77(op): 8:15am On Oct 29, 2014
Good morning, people.

It's a known fact the vast majority of Nigerians, though deeply religious, are very ungodly. Though we still have a few righteous ones.

Oftentimes I'm tempted to believe many will quit being religious if we have better economic conditions, because many deploy religion as an escape tool from the reality of economic hardships.

This is not in any way to disrespect the righteous ones.

What do you guys think?

those practicing tithing at this time needs to check the scriptures.
Truth is, some people will NEVER agree with the abolishment of tithing; they are more willing to continue paying than take some time and discipline to study it for themselves. It's human nature! Very few people have the temerity to question the validity of teachings held sacrosanct for centuries. It's human nature.

I have tried to educate some people, and I was shocked to see people are willing to defend ordinances that can't the litmus test of the Scriptures.

I'm still digging deep into a lot of issues I have held so dear to myself. This is the era when everybody MUST study God's Word for themselves.

I used to feel guilty whenever I skipped paying my tithe; not any more.

I started studying the tithe issue when I discovered none of the Apostles sanctioned it in their epistles.

Though many of us misconstrue this phrase to mean all mankind's woes, sicknesses and diseases are finished, Jesus was actually implying the END of ALL the Levitical ordinances and myriads of laws. He also meant the segregation between the Jews and Gentiles was ENDED.

I pity them.

I love this. Women are to be respected.
We very often foolishly undermine and underestimate our wives. We pretend like we don't need them as our pillars; that's one big lie. Once a woman's heart leaves, it's very hard to return. When they love, it's because they chose to.

We should appreciate, applaud and honour them. God is always with the man whose wife is happy with!

To answer the OP's question, his recent marital saga did not affect my perception of him. I have always known him to be a philandering, conceited charlatan so the marriage saga merely confirmed my opinion of him. But I must admit my opinion of him descended to new lows when I read his response to the whole matter with him ridiculing his wife publicly and his insanely arrogant infallibility claims.
I have learned some lessons from this saga.

We should value our wives. Never take them for granted. Respect them. And we should be humble and courageous enough to apologise to them when we've messed up.

We are not INFALLIBLE!

Even as a single guy, I can't talk bad about a girl a dated in the past not to talk of the wife that I will marry.
Yeah. It's really painful. It's really sad things turned this way. I think you're right concerning the poor manner it was handled.

Yea it affected my perception of him to a large extent. It made me see his spiritual pride and disregard for women. He is the first minister that was comfortable to talk bad stuff about his wife in the public.
Infact the latest happening in his marriage turned me off on things concerning him. I don't watch him anymore simply because whenever I do I see a man who does not regard family.
That's why we're individuals: we see the same thing but have different interpretations.

You've raised certain salient points I will have to look into afresh, especially concerning his alleged disregard to women.

Biblical characters are fictional characters, anybody who doesn't have proof of ever living besides tales are classified fictional to a very large extent
Not any more real than American TV characters

Btw jst as u hold Mary dear for being mother of Jesus ur god, so do buddhist hold Maya dear for being the Virgin mother of Buddha, Bacchusians(cult of dionysus/Bacchus) hold Semele dear for the same reason. Even Romans before reinventing Christianity worshiped Semele and Isis for being Virgin mothers
You should have stayed away.....You're derailing the thread. However, that's ur opinion.

It hasn't. I've never really been a fan of his, or made his ministry my business. But I know someone who this crises might have affected terribly.
I know her as a devoted member, from Sunday services to midweek services. She'd buy the Rapsody of realities daily devotional monthly and share to us.
Countless times, she's tried to invite me for church programs, which I'd forever politely turned down. But of recent, she'd completely quit all of that. The worst is, she doesn't even go to church anymore.
It's quite surprising, and somewhat sad thing to see.

You should follow God, and not man. My advice though.

I passed by their Church building yesterday afternoon, a huge one, along Bodija, Ibadan. The edifice is presently listed as "for sale". I just hope it ain't related to their marital issues.
Hmmmm. Indeed it's trying times. I pray God upholds His Church.

I believe the sister you talked about couldn't take the mockery and ridicule from others anymore.

Like you said, we should look up Christ, as He's the Author u Finisher of our faith.

These are times that try the souls of men.

It's not being the best of times for Christ Embassy, especially for its founder Pst Chris Oyakhilome. Even the most faithful friends can abandon one in the thick of trying times.

Though I worship in the RCCG , I can categorically say I've being immensely blessed by the great messages of Pst Chris.

His recent marital saga has not negatively affected my perception of him AT ALL. If anything, the challenges just confirmed the fact that men of God, however highly placed, are still human, and are therefore subject to failures and indiscretion, and that while we may still see them as role models, Christ should be our utmost Guide and role model. I pray God heals his home and brings back his family to where it was
before.

God bless us all.
